Bill Clinton: 'Vast right-wing conspiracy' as 'virulent' as ever

In an interview that aired Sunday, former President Clinton said forces once allied against him are now focused on President Obama.
In an interview that aired Sunday, former President Clinton said forces once allied against him are now focused on President Obama.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The "vast right-wing conspiracy" that attacked him during his presidency has been weakened, but continues to operate against President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton said Sunday.

On NBC's "Meet the Press," Clinton was asked about the term his wife Hillary Clinton, now Secretary of State, famously coined. "Is it still there?" asked host David Gregory.

"Oh, you bet. Sure it is. It's not as strong as it was, because America's changed demographically, but it's as virulent as it was," said the former president.

"I mean, they're saying things about him [Obama] - you know, it's like when they accused me of murder and all that stuff they did," Clinton said, in an apparent reference to conspiracy theories surrounding the suicide of White House deputy counsel Vince Foster.

He added, "It's not really good for the Republicans and the country, what's going on now. I mean, they may be hurting President Obama. They can take his numbers down, they can run his opposition up. But fundamentally, he and his team have a positive agenda for America."

The nation needs "a credible debate about what's the right balance between continuing to expand the economy through stimulus and beginning to move back to fiscal balance," Clinton said. "We need a credible debate about what's the best way to get to universal [health care] coverage."

Clinton praised Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine as "the one Republican who's come up with a good idea" on health care.

Clinton was asked whether he is concerned that the 2010 midterm elections could resemble those of 1994 - two years into his first term, when Republicans took control of the House and Senate.

"There's no way" that could happen, Clinton said, adding that "the country is more diverse and more interested in positive action." Also, he said, Republicans had control of the White House and the Congress for several years under President Bush, "and they know the results were bad."

And, he said, "the Democrats haven't taken on the gun lobby like I did."

"Whatever happens, it'll be manageable for our president," Clinton said.

Slick Willie is still delusional,it seems. It was not a "vast right wing conspiracy" that caused him to molest young interns and a series of other women at government expense. In fact, the Clinton supporter that claimed he raped her in Little Rock seemed quite believable. The weak of character are always looking for someone else to blame for their transgressions and their lies.

Yes, former President Clinton, the right wing is as evil as they've ever been-and you did nothing to stop them.

I always love it when I hear about a vast right wing conspiracy. Who is it from? Fox News and talk radio? I can think of maybe 5 people on talk radio who are conservative, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Savage, Ingrham. I might be missing a couple, but not much.

Then you look at the Libs. Virtually all newspapers, CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, virtually all professors, Air America, and the majority of bloggers are left leaning. It isn't even a contest as to which party has the most media backing them.

All this proves is that the dems can say anything they want, and when the gop says anything, the dems go crying to their media buddies who are more then happy to run the story about the mean republicans.

    Dear President Clinton,

We are not allowed to use the "C" word, it's not politically correct according to the Republican political correction police.

The FACT that the Republican philosophy is one of uncontrolled greed and hatred, that Republicans hate many of their fellow Americans and wish them ill, that Republicans even hope and pray to their pathetic god that terrorists strike our country and kill fellow Americans so that Republican can benefit, we're just not allowed to talk about these FACTS.

    Mr. clinton
I did vote for you ,and in the end was happy for it, but didn't like you passing NAFTA which helped destroy jobs in our country. I also voted for Obama which i would like to take back. Like you he shows little concern for jobs that would last over time. What he gives are road jobs with short durations of work. Sir the people want nothing more then to have a better life then what are parents did. That in it self is becoming harder every day. We still ship jobs to other countries every day with no concern from Obama. Now he wants to pass cap and trade which will lead to more job lost. My congressmen J. Costello (D) also agreed that cap and trade would amount to job loss also. When he voted no we were proud to still see their were DEM left in washington that still cared about the people. Mr. Clinton Mr. Obama has not on Fiscal concern in his body.

can this ex president just do the right thing and retire from public life, rather than continue to try and justify himself. history is history, not his stories.

    Dear President Clinton:

Thanks for telling it like it is. And we need to remember that it only takes two (perhaps three?) to forge a conspiracy.

The terms "conspiracy" and "conspiracy theory" are so emotionally laden; we forget that conspiracy is how the world does business. This is how corporations do business. This is how Washington works and probably always has worked. This is how the Republican party operates–with its media allies, insurance companies, special interests, power mongers, the rich....

    Let's consult the dictionary...

CONSPIRE: 1a : to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or an act which becomes unlawful as a result of the secret agreement b : SCHEME 2: to act in harmony toward a common end...

    Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, 2000, page 247.

"Unlawful," "wrongful," are the key words here; too bad the word "unethical" is not also there–"unethical" is the word that best defines the Republican Party.

Funny, how those who are part of the vast left wing conspiracy, claim there is only a vast right wing conspiracy. Right or left, Mr. Obama is slowly showing just how poorly a leader he is and definitely not ready to be president of all americans. Mr. Clinton, a repeat adulterer, is in no position to judge anyone who disagrees with the current president. Mr. Clinton, however, was a much stronger leader and in a better to be president when he was than Mr. Obama will ever be.

Clinton, you're an idiot. Americans don't like liars. When you lie to them on national TV then of course they are going to be out to get you. When someone lies to you once and they get caught in that lie, it is hard to tell when they are telling the truth. Obama has repeatedly been caught in lies, so it is up the imaginations of the American people to guess what is true and what is not.

Anyone that tries to move the republican party forward with new and better ideas is slapped down or shouted down. Hate talk and lies are still the only way for the right wingers. They refuse to grow.

It is amazing how all the Repugs are complaining about President Obama's foreign affairs philosophy. It is a breath of fresh air to have someone intelligent in the office for once who doesn't immediately run for the guns but has the wisdom...yes WISDOM... to get it right before he jumps in with all feet. Oh yes Bush was a real tough guy who sent thousands to their deaths based solely on false intelligence and lies to the American people, that is real strength!!!. Why the hell were we fighting in Iraq anyway..we didn,t even have enough troops at Bora bora to capture Osama when we had him in our sights.
President Obama at least sees the intelligence in having our allies work with us this time. we dont need any bomb bomb Repugs handling this world now..lets remember that strength is not only seen through the sight of our guns! We don't have to rule and bully the world to show our strength..true leadership comes in many forms

If American voters can elect a white trash. morally challenged sleeze bag like bill clinton who blames a vast right wing conspiracy for
for his perversions and gross lies, then who knows, maybe they can
believe this same low life scum when he blames said conspiracy
for opposing a marxist sicko who hates this country and is out to prove it.

There is a vast left wing conspiracy trying to destroy the consrevattives, with convicted lying ex presidents saying there ia a vast right wing conspiracy. Ol diridi, bless his little drug soaked head, is right, ignore the republicans and all of the americans that are against this health care reform, they just pay for it, they don't have the right to deny the non working, drug crazed, Oprah watchers who voted Obama in to office the thrill of victory and a chance to steal more from the working people of America.

Bill, you too must be drinking too much cool aide. I am an independent (I actually voted for your wife in the Democratic primary); however, I do not like the way the Obama administration is handling the affairs of our country. He is leading us down socialism. He is too friendly with nations that dislike the U.S., he bows to the King of S.Arabia, he apologizes about U.S. actions to the world when he should be leading; this makes the U.S. and obama look weak. I will do volunteer work in the next election to hopefully put him out of the office he now holds and hopefully we can get rid of the majority of the Democrats in Congress as they absolutely are sickening. I will not vote for another Clinton for any office. I believe we need to kick all of the politicians out of Washington before they entirely destroy our nation. You are appearing on TV so much these days that you, Obama and Carter are overexposing yourselves. Most past presidents have kept their mouths shut but not you and Carter. Have you noticed that the past Republican presidents did not critisize the Democratic president in office? That is class, which you Democrats do not have. You all lie a lot, too.
