Bank of America pulls ACORN funding

Bank of America pulls ACORN funding.

NEW YORK (CNN) - Troubled community organizing group ACORN suffered another setback on Monday, when Bank of America announced it is pulling its funding of ACORN Housing.

In a statement, Bank of America said that is it "suspending current commitments to ACORN Housing and will not enter into any further agreements with ACORN or any of its affiliates" until it is satisfied that all issues related to the organization have been resolved.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known as ACORN, has been under investigation by both the Justice and Treasury Department after videos recorded on hidden cameras by conservative activists showed
employees allegedly giving advice on illegal activities.

ACORN is also conducting its own investigation through an independent auditor and it says that it has fired the employees involved in the recorded incidents.

The organization was in the headlines during the recent presidential campaign after allegations of voter registration fraud. Some of its voter registration workers were prosecuted and some other employees resigned.

Even greater controversy was ignited by the videos, which show some ACORN workers advising two conservative activists - posing as a pimp and a prostitute - how to set up a prostitution business involving underage, foreign girls.

Bank of America said it "takes recent allegations made against ACORN and ACORN Housing Corporation employees very seriously."

ACORN did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment.

ACORN is officially the scapegoat for no good reason. It is an organization to help the poor. What has the right-wing Faux news goon squad done for the poor? Nothing

ACORN should be treated the same as any other organization that has documented criminal activity. They are not being picked on, they are just being exposed for what they really are.

Taxpayer money should be nowhere near this organization or any of it's affiliates, period!

The connection between ACORN, SEIU, Corruption, and the White House need to be exposed.

Do some actual reporting on matters that affect the Public Please.

Don't blame Fox and the Repubs, blame ACORN. If not for the corruption which they fosted and allowed then they would still be serving the poor.

Why were they playing footsie with them in the first place ? If they hadn't loaned money to bad risks, there wouldn't be much of a need for those types of services

Shut down ACORN. Obama claims to know nothing about what is going on with ACORN, how convenient. Guess he doesn't know tens of millions of OUR tax payer dollars funded this corrupt organization. Guess he doesn't remember his campaign giving them 800,000 to get him elected. Time for the Media to call Obama out on ACORN.

Riddle me this: why does the foot-tap of a barely known republican senator in a public restroom provide incontrovertible proof of a GOP "culture of corruption," when the wanton trashing of public and international law by one of the democratic party's most vocal supporters is only proof of a witch hunt?

Is it time for England to re-issue its "Revocation of Independence" as it did during the Great Dimpled Chad Caper in 2000?

We need to stop rewarding companies like ACORN who promote corruption and breaking the law.

ACORN greedy founders and executives have let down the people they were supposed to serve.....the poor.

Let's hope Congress pushes for a COMPLETE and THOROUGH investigation into all it's criminal and fraudulent activities.

In the meantime they need to funnel the money that would have normally gone to ACORN to companies who actually deserve out trust and out money.

Good! Get ACORN out of the picture! They are crooks.

Hey, wanna see what a success Obama's community activism days were? Just look at the south side of Chicago, where an innocent bystander was brutally attacked and killed by rival gangs. And these were teenagers! That's Obama's work for you. You people wanna talk war and violence, take a look at Obama's south side. That's as big a war zone as any. And thanks to the Obamas, the ACORNs, and all the other community organizers who only teach to hate those who have more or to look for government handouts, the area's a war zone with little to no regard for human life.

    Thanks Obama!

Oh now ACORN "helped to create our current financial crisis"? WOW!!! Who knew that little old ACORN held such POWER to bring down our multi-trillion dollar financial markets!!!!!

Just how uber-deluded, to go along with your uber-partisanship, can you neo-nitwits get? You guys live in a cartoon world, a cartoon that is drawn for you everyday by the [R] noise machine on FoxNews, and clearly you guys don't ever stop to think about what they are telling you to say, to see if it has any basis in reality. You just parrot the mindless drivel, hoping other ignorant and deluded beings like yourselves will mindlessly believe the rightwing dogma.

Bad as BofA is, they finally realized that ACORN is corrupt, and decided to wash their hands of them. How long can ACORN survive? Probably not much longer.

Those who think ACORN is so great, I am sure you make a personal donation to this organization. TAX payer dollars should NOT support ACORN.

Only an extreme liberal organization such as Acorn would push for charges against those that have exposed wrong doing. Community organizers and activists can be a good thing but often become corrupt and self-serving. Many people have made a fortune by speaking out for the poor while also manipulating them in order to serve themselves.

Acorn has had corruption issues since its founding. My question is where did all of the taxpayer money go! Why was all of that money sent to a PO BOX in New Orleans? How many people are getting Rich off of this money! Why was the media so slow to report and investigate the money issues?

In these trickle down economic times, I must say that the ACORN workers that got nabbed in the conservative movement sting operation showed a great amount of genius! I agree that they should be re-trained and advised to not give the type of life planning that ACORN does for millions when it involves illegal activity. I'm a child of the sixties and grew up in Detroit in the mid 80's when crack cocaine ravaged the city and the only difference between what the suburbians were snorting and what inner city was smoking was baking soda. For decades inner city America has made lemonade out of the lemons they were handed, and this situation is proof at how good they've gotten at it! If y'all want to know the truth about how conservatives have been trying to attack ACORN for years now, you only need to do a little homework, that way you'll know how deep the roots of hatred go when it relates to conservatives and ACORN! I got a brain full yesterday after listening to the history of it on NPR. Wake up America!

Good. This organization is corrupt. They protect themselves by shielding their hides with scapegoats. They blame a few rogue employees for voter fraud. How many states did these employees get caught with voter fraud? How many aren't caught? They blame 2 young journalists for catching them and vilify them for days after each tape crying it was dubbed and edited. Only after they realized that wouldn't work they took responsibility for getting CAUGHT, not for how they are run.

If even a fraction of this happened to a right leaning organization the country would be screaming, instead they make excuses ad protect them. Good for BOA, it's about time they did something right.

ACORN uses string arm tactics to get corporate sponsors in the first place. They are getting a taste of their own medicine.
