WASHINGTON (CNN) – National Democrats will begin airing a new TV ad Wednesday aimed at trying to convince senior citizens that Republicans are perpetuating falsehoods about President Obama's efforts to reform health care.
"Republicans are trying to scare seniors about health reform," a narrator says at the opening of the ad as pictures of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader John Boehner flash on the screen.
"The truth is health reform will help seniors by enhancing their drug coverage, reducing the premiums they pay for drugs and medical care, and helping keep Medicare solvent," adds the narrator.
The Democratic National Committee is financing the 30-second spot, which will air on national cable and in Washington, DC. A DNC official would not say how much money was being spent on the ad, but described it as a "substantial buy."
The new push by the DNC to woo seniors comes as a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll shows that 54 percent of people age 65 and older oppose Obama's health care plan, while 41 percent favor it.

My mom is 79 and healthy, and she is FOR the changes. I'm sure that my in-laws, about the same age and on no drugs, feel the opposite, because they listen to Rush and are sure the Democrats are always after their money and up to no good (even though the last time we had a surplus was under Clinton.) So I hope this helps, but I'm not sure that you can convince people who don't want to be convinced.

I am a senior citizen and Obama is noot telling the truth about his promises. Medicare under Obamas plan will remove medicar advantage, so you can't keep that. Abortions may be allowed if in the plan there is no admendment against abortion. Treating illegals can't be enforced if there is not requirement to prove citizenship. In the center for diesease control Q&A section it states that people over 65 are at a lease rick than other all other age groups and will not be treated first as they have been in the past. This is change alright.
Seniors are not as stupid as Obama thought. They KNOW that cutting Medicare funding will result in cutting life saving tests and procedures. Democrats promise of cutting spending and increasing benefits, just doesn't add up. Seniors can do the math that teenagers can't.
We see what a crooked bunch of people republicans are. They target the most vunerable group of people in this country. They don't care, as long as they can fill their pockets with health and drug companies money.
They are not for the American people, there are now and have always been for big business. And the democrats in congress such as the blue dogs, if you can call them democrats, and baucus and lincoln are just as bad.

I am a 66 year old senior and well informed on healthcare and how there are many out there misinforming seniors to just say no. It's wrong to mislead the elderly to believe that President Obama's healthcare reform bill is a threat to seniors when they are the real threat. There is nothing in President Obama's healthcare reform that hurts us seniors, absolutely nothing.

Well for what it is worth I read the HR3200 and the only one lying is bo! This bill as it is in HR3200 all but destroys all health care for senior citizens! obama even stopped their meager increase in social security. obama is definitely out to destroy anyone over 65 and what will the age group next yr. 55 to 60? So the elderly don't feel too bad he also believes in murdering babies and denying care to the chronically ill.
How is cutting Medicare funding by $200 billion to help pay for a Public Option bureaucracy that people don't want supposed to help keep Medicare solvent?

Grassly on CSPAN said Medicare was part of the "American fabric" which would be the same Medicare republicans voted against 40 years ago.
Hopefully, our kids will be able to say that universal healthcare is part of the "American fabric" sooner than 40 years from now.

If the Republicans really wanted to scare seniors they would run ads telling what Cass Sunstien and Ezekel Emanuel have written concerning government benefits to seniors. They both endorse the concept that when government is evaluating progarms that they should consider the cost of the benefits to the elderly and disabled compared to those of the young and able bodied. When government is creating programs they should consider that money spent on the young and able bodied is of greater value then that spent on seniors and the disabled. This should be a factor when making decisions regarding distributing government resources. Most of the health care bills have new committees that will be regulating health care and most will be populated by direct appointments by the President. Both Sunstien and Emanuel are part of the Obama Whitehouse administration and both were appointed by Obama. How many like minded individuals might Obama appoint to government health care committees and boards? I bet if seniors knew about these two they would believe in a possible future of death panels and health care rationing for seniors.
What will th egovernment do when the public finds out that they under estimated Health Care Reform by a factor of 3 times or more as most big government programs? They are going to have to raise taxes on the middle class or cut benefits. With Medicare going broke in the next generation cuts are coming or tax hikes are coming. Personally, I do not trust what government says after what the Clinton Administration did to my free medical for life (to cut cost) after making the US Navy a career. All I can say is it is great we have private insurance through our civilain jobs!
I'm upset. Even before all this hoo-law about seniors neither Democrats or Republicans gave a d...! about us. We have to seek Physicians to even accept the mess. Most in small cities don't and if your unfortunate to live in one you may have to drive sixty to 100 miles to find care. I've seen nothing that says these Physicians have to accept the medicare program up front. Oh yeaH you can pay them then they will file for it for you. But the check comes to the medical clinic and you'll play hades in ever seeing it. So they get paid twice. Medicare only pays about 66% of the national average health care charges. No wonder no one wants to treat you. Ther is nothing in Obamas plan that spells anything different. If any of these politicians had this insurance they would see things differently. When a military serviceman reaches 65 years of age he falls under medicare. He then if he wants total care must go to the Veterans or Military hospital and wait maybe three or four days for treatment. How can anyone over 65 years of age continue driving up to a hundred miles to one of these facilities. YES THE HEALTH PROGRAM NEEDS CHANGING BUT IN THE RIGHT WAY NOT OBAMA'S WAY.
