Franks aide clarifies 'enemy of humanity' comment

In a recent speech to conservative activists, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks said President Obama was 'an enemy of humanity.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A spokeswoman for a Republican congressman who called President Obama "an enemy of humanity" said Tuesday that he should have clarified that he was talking about the president's policies on abortion.

Bethany Haley, a spokeswoman for Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, told CNN on Tuesday the congressman was actually referring to "unborn humanity" - a specific reference to the president's policies on abortion.

Franks used the term in a speech to conservative activists Saturday in St. Louis, pointing to Obama's decision to aid international family planning clinics that perform abortions.

"A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can't do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity," Franks said.

Franks' speech was recorded by the liberal group People for the American Way.

In an interview with the Washington Independent after the speech, Franks also renewed a call for Obama to produce a copy of his birth certificate to end the questions by "birthers" who doubt the president's birthplace. Franks said he had once considered filing a lawsuit to get it, but did his own investigation and became convinced that the president was born in the United States.

Haley called the controversy a "silly debate" and said it is "ridiculous that the president doesn't just produce [the birth certificate] and make it go away." In the interview, Franks implied that the president might be trying to hide something else.

"Probably, Barack Obama could solve this problem and make the birthers, you know, back off, by simply showing us his long-form birth certificate," Franks said. "That'd solve the problem. There's some other issue, I don't know what it is, that he doesn't want people to see the birth certificate on."

This neural tube birth defected excuse for a human being is lucky he was not euthanized at birth. It's his kind that abortion on demand was created for. He should be sterilized and sent out to play with the rest of the eunuchs.

Nasty smears are, evidently, all the GOP have left to offer. Franks shouldn't try to pretend that he meant something less offensive.

Personally I think liberal Democrats should call themselves Pro-Life, and rally for stricter controls on abortion, which will have little effect on Roe-v-Wade just as it did not during the previous 40 years of predominant Republican rule. It's already a given that many states place restrictions on abortion, so there's really no legal basis for saying that the unborn child isn't protected by law. Democrats should give this Red Hering issue to the Republicans as a compromise and sweep it under the rug so that all the good hearted single-issue conservatives who, right or wrong, will vote with their gut will have no reason not to vote for the Democratic party which clearly excells in all other things. It's a really good idea for those of us who are Dem to stand for middle America, not just the far-left-wing. We need to be seen as the party of Family strength, not just the party of minority rights.

The true "Enemies of Humanity" are those against Healthcare reform. And those against a Public Option for people who have no options.

Males don’t have any creditability on this subject. If males could hold a baby for 9 months in there stomach, then they can join in the debate. But since they don't, they need to stfu and let the women debate this issue (which is a non-issue). There they go again! Rethuglicans cherry-picking their laws. Abortion is legal, women do have a choice. But for some reason, Rethuglicans are going against the LAW OF THE LAND. But when an immigrant crosses the line (border) they are consider terrorist and committed treason! Talk about no respect for the law or manipulating it!

Has anyone else noticed that you can no longer tell Republicans apart from one another? Their comments are either totally off the wall or one will tell a lie and all the rest swear to it. If the country wasn't in such bad shape this might actually be funny.

Here we go again saying something you know you mean then changing it pretending like it was an mistake after the public finds out about it. So what is the President policies on abortion Oh! he is prolife and! PRO-CHOICEposite of PRO-IFE that means that he leaves it up to the mother to abort her baby or not. And whats so wrong with that as far as im concern im prolife but i wll not try to tell another woman other than my daughter whta to do with her own body. Thats the way i believe the President see it thats the way i see it so is this a sin to beleieve that way every person have to give account to GOD what he does to his own body.

Every year, far more infants die in this country because their parents cant afford sufficient health care than there are abortions performed. I guess that means since Republicans oppose Heath Care Reform that would save the lives of numerous babies, than all Republicans must be "enemies of humanity."

To all the Glenn Beck-ites out there who have their panties in a knot about how President Obama is "indoctrinating" school children:

Check out the video of the kids singing the praises of George W. Bush and FEMA after Hurricane Katrina. It took place at the 2006 Easter Egg Roll, where dozens of children “from the stricken Gulf Coast region serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the beleaguered Federal Emergency Management Agency.” To the tune of "Hey Look Me Over," the kids from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama sang:

    Our country stood beside us
People have sent us aid. Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade.
Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land
Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!

Where was all the uproar from Fox about THAT?

What baloney and what hypocrisy. Why is it that conservatives claim to want government out of their lives, but then insist that government dictate to women what they can or can not do with their own bodies? Mr. Obama is not in favor of abortion, he is instead opposed to allowing the government to interfere in medical decisions.

As for his birth certificate, give it a rest – it was released eons ago, anyone can look it up online, and sorry to say, every single "birther" is nothing more than a whack job.

    At least until they're born.

From the photo it looks like he has been in an accident, I will assume very severe brain damage was a result of his injuries, and cut him some slack, but ONLY this one time!

Let the stupid repub comments continue. You think you're going to be Obama by being hateful and dumb? Don't these repubs understand that most Americans don't think like these birthers? 2012 is a 100% landslide for Obama, especially when Palin screws up everything for the repubs by announcing her candidacy. Wow.

President Obama says he is a Christian.... so let us take him at his word ... but the book of James also instructs us that the faith of a man is manifested within his actions ... to quote "faith without works is dead".

So, since President Obama is a Christian and Christ says that if a man loves Christ that man will obey his commandments ... let us simply have President Obama give us the supporting verses in the Old and New Testaments of the Christian Bible (accurately translated from the original languages) that support the idea and indeed command Christians to support abortions. If he can legitimately show us that God has indeed commanded us to support abortions .... then we too will obey Christ and do so.
