Franks aide clarifies 'enemy of humanity' comment

In a recent speech to conservative activists, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks said President Obama was 'an enemy of humanity.'
In a recent speech to conservative activists, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks said President Obama was 'an enemy of humanity.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A spokeswoman for a Republican congressman who called President Obama "an enemy of humanity" said Tuesday that he should have clarified that he was talking about the president's policies on abortion.

Bethany Haley, a spokeswoman for Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, told CNN on Tuesday the congressman was actually referring to "unborn humanity" - a specific reference to the president's policies on abortion.

Franks used the term in a speech to conservative activists Saturday in St. Louis, pointing to Obama's decision to aid international family planning clinics that perform abortions.

"A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can't do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity," Franks said.

Franks' speech was recorded by the liberal group People for the American Way.

In an interview with the Washington Independent after the speech, Franks also renewed a call for Obama to produce a copy of his birth certificate to end the questions by "birthers" who doubt the president's birthplace. Franks said he had once considered filing a lawsuit to get it, but did his own investigation and became convinced that the president was born in the United States.

Haley called the controversy a "silly debate" and said it is "ridiculous that the president doesn't just produce [the birth certificate] and make it go away." In the interview, Franks implied that the president might be trying to hide something else.

"Probably, Barack Obama could solve this problem and make the birthers, you know, back off, by simply showing us his long-form birth certificate," Franks said. "That'd solve the problem. There's some other issue, I don't know what it is, that he doesn't want people to see the birth certificate on."

People need to stop being so narrow minded whether you are an Democrat or republican it dont matter SIN is SIN whether its abortion, fornication aldutrey homosexuality or jealousy its all a sin so you can hate abortion but at the same time hate another person whats the difference its still a SIN. So you can hate President Obama which is a sin because you have hate in your heart ,at the same time be against or hate abortion do you think GOD looks over the hate for the President or any person for that matter and say its ok because you are against abortion, Homosexuality, jealousy,or fornication or any other sin, come on we all have sin and come short of GOD GLORY!

The Dems are up in arms now because someone decided to stand up for the rights of a child rather than the rights of a two inch minnow. How screwed up has the US become?

I do not care if you are a Dem or Rep this needs to stop! The problem is that WHO CARES? Nothing is going to be done to these drooling fools. What is worse is when so many people jump on the bandwagon and support this type of non-productive, childish, and racially incentive goobledly gook!

11 million abortions of African-Americans. That's genocide, and Barry supports it. Abortion isn't about "women's rights" and it isn't about keeping the government "out of the bedroom" either. It's about basic human rights. Primarily, the right to life. No person shall have their right to life taken away without due process. Abortion takes away due process rights from the unborn. Back to the bedroom idea though, libs want the government out of their bedrooms, but they WANT the government in their kitchen, bathroom, living room, garage, etc. Can someone explain this to me?

The RNC, GOP, or whatever they call the Republican party today is in real trouble if the only thing they offer is criticisms of Obama. Americans want a federal government that wants to govern, not just give up, like so many Republican politicians have been doing.

Who keeps electing nut cases like Trent Franks to Congress? I guess letting people die from a lack of basic health care is preferable to allowing women, families and doctors to make difficult medical decisions. The President doesn't favor abortion, he just doesn't think government should be dictating medical procedures. But wait, isn't that the reason conservatives are opposed to a public health option?

You Democrats are so cute when you get mad.

So I have 2 questions for you about mandated health insurance:

    1. Since it is against the religious beliefs of the amish to purchase insurance of any kind, what do you suggest we do?
–do they go to jail because their religious beliefs forbid them from buying insurance?
    2. By mandating everyone BUY insurance, who do you think benefits from that?
–Ummmmm, I believe it's what you love to call "Big Pharma" or "Big Insurance" or whatever cute little name you come up with

More republican whining and slander. Will they ever learn. This is A changing America. The people are tired of being ignored by their representatives, tired of whining Republicans and fed up with big money ruining the average American's lives for their own gain. Republicans need to wise up and realize the new voter does not believe them. If you want to win do it by supporting Americans, not the few % who are big money. They put America into this recession and would send more Americans into poverty for their own gain if government does not stop them. The Republicans handed Obama the worst mess since the depression and we know it. It will take more than four years for us to forget what has been done to America by Republican free market principles. Free is only good if it is also fair. Fair trade not free trade.

I am a 40yr Democrat, most likely will be that way till the end. I voted and supported Obama because I thought he was the best man in the house..wrong, not that I would support any Republican or their people. Still think Limbaugh, Hannity, Dobbs, Beck, and others are totally sick Americans, I mean sick.
I am retired, paid into the system for 50 yrs, never abused it and feel somewhat comfortable with Medicare etc., maybe not the best, but dam close to it.
Obama you take our Senior citizen benefits away, you are a problem. It's quite obvious we whites are the minority and now the blacks are rising to power...

From the shape of his head, it looks like he has tried to squeeze in and visit some of the "little fellow human beings", perhaps to chat in tongues or maybe hold a revival?

Looks like the misshapen head is a result from the birth canal extraction, when Mommy got mad he tried to bring in the Holy Book of Fables and the tent,

So everyone who is pro choice is an enemy of humanity? Really? Do Republicans realize how extreme their rhetoric sounds at times? And then they wonder why they got trounced the last two elections! What a laugh!

He does not want the controversy to go away. It gives him a continual forum to decry the 'abuse' he is getting. Gives him a platform to continue to prattle about how rediculous his oponents are. It is all a political gimmick.

    That is funny!

Right wing of the Republican party has always been against humanity and they have the record to show for it. They have always been there to make sure BORN human beings suffer anywhere around the world as long as it is for profit. All of them are hypocrites. The only solution for Republican losers is to break the party in two and let their Right Wing get their own loser party.
After 8 years of destruction of the country, they still dare to talk about all these nonsense.

Saying blatant lies like that against the President is undermining the American way of life and helping the terrorists. This aide needs to be arrested - not for exercising his first amendment rights which he does have a right to do (one that Bush tried hard to squash) - but for committing such a treasonous act as helping the terrorists.

This is really not even worth commenting on, but why not?
More outrageous double talk from the right.
My question is...why do you even need to clarify your statement?
Its not as if the comment is even grounded in reality.

Even a blind man can had the bulls eye, Obama's one bulls eye is being prochoice. A lot of us republicans are prochoice our party would do well to remenber that in 2010 and 2012. Look what Palin the social conservative did for McCain, she was the single biggest factor in his defeat.
