Chicago congressman calls Olympic loss 'heartbreaking'.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Illinois Rep. Danny Davis, a Democrat whose district includes part of Chicago, called the Windy City's failed bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games "heartbreaking."

Davis was in the middle of telling CNN's Ed Henry on Friday why he believed Chicago would be the best location for the Olympics when the news broke that his city had been the first one eliminated. Above audible gasps around the studio, Henry asked Davis for his immediate reaction.

Listen: Davis hears the news from CNN's Ed Henry

"Well, it's kind of heartbreaking in a sense," Davis said. "It's obviously a downer for us, because a tremendous amount of effort has been put into trying to win the bid, but of course Chicago is the city of the big shoulders. We pick ourselves up and keep on moving and look for the next horizon."

Davis said he didn't think it was wrong for President Obama to visit Copehagen to personally push for Chicago's bid, and said that he was aiming to get an international opportunity and to show leadership. Davis also said that because Obama is from Chicago, he was expected to put up the extra effort to try to help his hometown.

Here we have the Obamas, who think that they should get everything they want, simply because he is the 'First Black President'. And then we've got all these people who think everything's gonna be alright, and the U.S. is gonna get everything it wants, simply because people were "smart" enough to elect the 'First Black President'. The Obamas, Oprah, boy they must think they walk on air.

Apparently we need more than 'just a pretty face'. Another example of Obama being all spectacle, no substance.

You have all given it your best shot!

In the spirit of the olympics " It ain't winning that will always matter,..it is the spirit of participating...."

God bless you all for trying, the USA will rise from the cloud of interrnation mistrust cast upon it in the last 8 years.

I hope that president Obama will continue to forge a new, better and sustainable relationship filled with mutual trust and respect with the rest of the world

The USA is a world power, bullying and preemptive wars will not emphasize this rather it will diminish stature as it has in these past years.

God bless the US of A!!

Gosh this is an absolute "loser" beside being a complete idiot, that the SEIU/ACORN and George Soros annoited as our president. Makes Carter look like a magician and all of us long for the days when Bush/Cheney weren't pushed around by the foul, rank "world" leaders and protected the sovereignity of our country, rather than apologize for upholding the constitution of the United States.

  8. 2010 can't get here fast enough

For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of the Olympic commitee.

MEchelle and Barry couldn't seal the deal and will now not become Billionaires along with their cronies.

Christmas and Halloween all rolled into one.

George Bush did this, no, Sarah Palin, no, Rush Limbaugh, no, no, no, how about Glen Beck, that's right, it is his fault.

Proud to be part of the vast right-wing conspiracy that these "crybabies" are going to also blame.

Obama, this is right at you, my friend...you have let down all of those who thought you were about something other than power, control, taxes and cronies.

I once heard Michael Jordan say that you cannot be afraid to fail, otherwise there will never be sucess. He then pointed out that he missed more shots that he made.

I wonder what Obozo the Great has done for America, beside laughing at our wonderful country.

I wonder if citizens of other countries are celebrating their nation's failed bid for the Olympics. ONLY IN AMERICA.

This could have brought a lot of money and jobs to the USA, but I guess that's not important to some.

Get a grip people. The United States has hosted an Oympiad (Summer and Winter) four times in the last thirty years. All other nations, who have had the honor of hosting an Oylmpiad, have only done so once in that same time period.

The spirit of the Oylmpic games is supposed to transcend politics, particularly the internal politics of any particular nation.

Chicago needs to deal with their children literally dying in the streets! They need to change their priorities and focus on their youths. In 2016, may there will be no murders in Chicago. Try that!

South America has never had the Olympics so it is wonderful.

Wouldn't you know it, one pathetic comment posted already from a GOP-hater.

Doesn't it get old hating so much? You, haters, do realize that hating another person does more damage to the hater than the one who is hated.

    The GOP more pathetic everyday.

Where do you think you are; a high school pep football game? Do you need to change your trousers? You got so excited, it sounds like you dirtied your pants. You sound like you’re easily pleased and even easier distracted.

No we can't cry. It was in Atlanta there were some serious issues. They respected South America this time who had never hosted the event and as some one reported the weather was horrible when they visited Chicago. Besides some reported some Chicago citizens did not want the games to come and the youth murders probably did not help the cause.
All the leaders of the final four countries made a pitch so our President did as well. We thank him for taking the time and expect he and his wife to go to Rio to supoort our teams. Get Ready! Get Set Americans!!!!

What's heartbreaking is that once again Obama tried to exert influence and was soundly rebuffed. For a smart man he seems not to realize that every time he gets publicly slapped it gives him an appearance of weakness.
