Chicago eliminated from hosting 2016 Olympics

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CNN) - Chicago, Illinois, has been eliminated from hosting the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday.

The vote came just hours after President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, delivered a personal pleas to the Olympic committee praising the virtues of his adopted home city.

The man spent a morning a Copenhagen. It's not his fault that the media blew it out of proportion and pretended he was spending all his time plotting a Chicago bid.

As for the failure, I'd rather have a President who spends his time fighting for America, on whatever stage, than sit on his derrier and look "Presidential".

The IOC takes local support and financial stability into account. Tokyo and Chicago were elliminated in the first vote because of the lack of that in those cities. And btw, all 4 cities had political backup attending the final bid in Copenhagen. Not just America.

The President and Michelle should be lauded for their effort to land the Olympics,... it's called pulling for your country,... but you can't win them all. The negative crowd on here, are the same ,unpatriotic bunch, that's rooting for the President to fail,... you are a sickening lot, devoid of decency, devoid of love of country and just mean spirited.

    Good effort Mr. President.

I watched for 8 years as Ronald and Nancy Reagan lived lavish lives partying at taxpayer expense (remember the $600,000 "in 1981 an astronomical number!" china during a recession) and no one said a word. All Reagan did was sleep, read cue cards and live the high life while homelessness, crack-cocaine and AIDS invaded our country and we admire him as one of our great presidents.

America never has and never will be truly great as long as we continue to let hatred and bigotry rule and after 400 years we still do not see its destructive powers.

Congrats to Rio! Too bad Chicago didn't work out, but that's OK. Maybe next time! I'm looking forward to watching the games regardless of where they're held.
