Obama, Chicago come up short in Olympics bid

(CNN)–Michelle Obama gave an impassioned speech before the International Olympics Committee. President Obama traveled overseas - in the middle of debates over health care and Afghanistan - to make his personal pitch to bring the 2016 Olympics to his hometown.

But despite their efforts, the Obamas will come home empty-handed as Chicago's dreams of hosting the Games evaporated in the first round.

The news stunned those awaiting the announcement, many of whom thought the battle was between Chicago, Illinois, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rio also beat out Madrid, Spain, and Tokyo, Japan, to host the games.

So funny to see the libs say that it is due to Bush........ give it up. That line has been so overplayed.

Has Obama brought back the troops???? NO
Has Obama closed/or will have Gitmo closed by years end???? NO
Jobless going up under Obama???? YES You know you libs would say how great a job O is doing if there were less jobless so it goes that with more jobless he is not doing so good.

John- Every time Obama fails it's the GOP, and Bush that's to blame??? I thought the World would love us as soon as Obama was elected?? I thought his charisma and way with words would change all that?? Could it be that the world as well as most Americans are starting to see the "one" for what he truly is???

I find it commical that a few panty-waisted liberals on here a blaming Bush for the Olympic committee's dissing of Barry and Mickey's plea for Chicago! The reality is that this is just another failure to add to Obama's ever-growing list of failures! You voted for this guy. Take some responsibily for it for once and stop blaming others! Playing the "victom" game is a Democrat creed and America is sick of it!

Oh well. Now instead of going to the Olympics in Chicago and being mugged and murdered, you can go to Rio and get mugged and murdered.

Top 10 Reasons Chicago Didn't Get the Olympics

    10. Dead people can't vote at IOC meetings

    9. Obama distracted by 25 min meeting with Gen. McChrystal

    8. Who cares if Obama couldn't talk the IOC into Chicago? He'll be able to talk Iran out of nukes.

    7. The impediment is Israel still building settlements.

    6. Rahm Emmanuel forgot to send a dead fish to the IOC

    5. We've been quite clear and said all along that we didn't want the Olympics.

    4. This isn't about the number of Olympics "lost", it's about the number of Olympics "saved" or "created".

    3. Clearly not enough wise Latina judges on the committee

    2. Because the IOC is racist.

    1. It's George Bush's fault.

@John, you do know that Bush isn't President anymore right? I mean are you planning on blaming every Obama failure (and so far everything he's touched has failed) on Bush? At what point is Obama actually President and have some responsibility for what happens? 1 year? 2 years? Just wondering. I've got a news flash for you. The world didn't like us before Bush, and before Clinton, and before Bush I, etc. They only like us when the need us to bail them out of trouble.

It would have been great to get the games back in the USA, especially this close to home, but as a native Illinoisian (down state), I have to say the behavior of some in Chicago is deplorable. I just can't help to think that the recent taped beating death of a teenager worked against Chicago. The crime and corruption of the city is ridiculous. I fully know the rest of world has it fair share of problems, but when the world shined the spotlight on Chicago they didn't see good. They saw the trash on the stage. Too bad.

As the Cubs say, next year is our year.

Mrs. Obama get over yourself...my father is my hero also. As we speak he is 92 and suffering from Alzheimers....has exhausted his savings and I receive medical bills everyday! Expences I pay...my savings are exhausted also. You guys need to stay home and off the talk shows and do something constructive. I don't use his illness as a soap box....I use it to make sure he has $100.00 in his account fund to pay for adult diapers. He worked for 30 years...paid taxes...retired and outlived his savings.

How do we start a campaign to get Sarah Palin to run in 2012. I hope the right winger and the blue dems can get her onboard for another exciting election.

Tina Fey should also get ready for another Emmy. Sarah we really, really need you to run. You did great in the last election.

Since stepping into the Oval Office President Obama has been on the job showing energy, persistance , and determination to bring about positive changes to our country. His days and weeks have been absolutely jam packed with the important issues facing us. I'm glad that he chose to take one day away from Washington to try to bring the 2016 Olympics to his adopted city, Chicago. In a way, this was probably the least stressful time he has spent since taking on the Presidency. Kudoes to his loyalty to Chicago and America, and his willingness to step out and take a chance on not being successful!!!! He's my kind of guy!!!!!

South America hasn't had the Olympics for a reason. The country is corrupt and the continent kidnaps it's citizens and keeps them in the jungle if they disagree with the crime lords. Either way the place is a mess.

I won't be going down there, not ever.

Pres. Obama has personal experience with sports and athletics, one reason why he is immensely popular with most young people. He know the important thing is to do one's best, compete fairly and not try to win at all costs. He represented America at its best before the world and the Olympic committee.

The heads of state of the three competing countries were all there. Rio de Janeiro's selection was logical and fair, given the Olympics' priiorities. Pres. Obama did everything right, and his short trip abroad did not ivert his attention from other pressing issues like the economy, health care and foreign policy.

I didn't know the bid for the Olympics was for the Obama's? I thought this bid was for the USA? The Obama's did not lose- the USA and Chicago did. What's up with the headline? What's wrong with trying to get jobs for your country? He tried, it didn't work but that is no reason to bash the President or the First Lady for making the attempt. There are winners and losers but in this case we did not win. Congratulations to Brazil and let's hope the President keeps fighting for this country and its citizens to bring jobs here.

TCM – go get a DNA Test you might find you have a lot in common with Lucy. You do know who she is, don't you? Once you have done this, perhaps your rants will tone down. And to SK – whatever we spent as taxpayers is no where the amount the GOP squandered over the last 8 years (let us not forget the surplus in that amount).

Glad he jetted out of town at Tax payers expense, when there is so much he needs to do here. Common sense would have told you it was going to be in Rio. But hey, the Great Obama thought his and Oprahs presence could sway the vote. Welcome back to earth Mr. Obama, sometimes you will hear NO. Now get to work!

what's with this salesman "cult of personality"? every talking head i've heard attributes the "loss" to some unexplained lack in presentation.
are these people really so laughably egotistical to think that its simply a matter of "salesmanship" and the facts dont matter at all?
maybe thats why we've such morons in politics, running corporations and turning their hats sideways, puffing their chests and making bad nursery rhymes to a thumpy-beat and calling it "music".
south america has never had an olympics. its beautiful, the people are nice, they seem to embrace new ideas, ways of thinking and its economically up and coming.
chicago is a cold, uniquely american urban landscape with lots of crime, corruption, congestion and awful traffic. outside of obama, the needle for that place has been pointing down for a long time.....
obama needs to stay home and deal the knuckleheads here. its was a losing proposition from the get-go.
plus, its a net economic loss for any city, period. they always cook the books and lie that olympics are a money-maker. not!
i find it too par for the course that the repuglicans are taking genuine delight that an american team lost. they prove time and again what sore-loser slime balls they are every time they do so......

@TCM: Your disdain for Black poeple is shameful and cowardly. Is the Idea that a Black man (and woman for that matter) in a position of power is so unsettling to you that you'll say just about anything except the real truth of what troubles you with Obama?...and Ignore the mess that was the last eight years??
Don't worry though, there are still some Black folks out there to carry your bags, Mas'a!
