Palin is remaining silent about a sharp jab directed at her Friday by former John McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sarah Palin is remaining silent about a sharp jab directed at her Friday by former John McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt, who predicted that a potential Palin presidential bid in 2012 would be "catastrophic."

A spokeswoman for the former Alaska governor said Palin is holding her fire until her new book is released next month.

"The governor will write about all of this in her book," Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said in an e-mail, referring to the internal fighting that marred the final weeks of McCain's president bid. "There will be plenty of time to talk about it then."

"I think that she has talents," he said of McCain's former running mate during a panel discussion with CNN's John King. "But my honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for the Republican Party in 2012, and in fact, were she the nominee, we could have a catastrophic election result."

Schmidt was speaking at The Atlantic's "First Draft of History" Conference in Washington, D.C.

Unbelievable- Sarah Palin has 10 times the accomplishments of Obama and is absolutely as smart as him. How many stupid things does the guy have to say off teleprompter to shatter the idea that he is a thinker. He is a typical politician who cant figure out the push/pull door but can regurgitate a bunch of campaign slogans and empty platitudes.

Name one accomplishment or success of Obama's outside of using the corrupt Chicago political machine to get elected to office. He is an empty suit with no ideas. If he had to put up with 1/100th of the media assault Palin did, he would have never made it out of the Illinois Senate. Every time something negative is said about Obama he cries and then tries to sick his bullies on them.

He doesnt have half the guts or spine that Sarah Palin has– she is a much cooler person.....have you seen him throw??,,,,in mom jeans?? He is a product of packaging with no substance and horrible judgment.

The grovelling to the Olympic Committee was a debacle and embarrassing....

She would be a better President then Obama....although its obvious thats not a difficult task.

We have 3 years until 2012....i imagine Americans will pick anyone over Barack Obama by then.

bob in LA   October 2nd, 2009 8:41 pm ET

Only Palin could think she could wirte about the comments being made today in her book about to be released.
Is she planning adding pages just before its released?
I have to assume it is being printed at this time.

I am not a liberal but I think Palin is a joke. Period. I wont buy her ghost written book, I am sick of being said I feel threatened. I consider her as substantive as a puff of smoke. I laugh at people like the Obama show who cant even spell Hussein right. Ignorant uneducated people are what scare me

bellablue   October 2nd, 2009 8:41 pm ET

Anyone can write a book! And I would bet the "honeymoon" will be over very soon for Sara Palin! Most likely the Repubicans are the ones buying this book. And it won't be long before it will be a "Bargain Book"! I think there are many, many Americans who truly believe that Sara Palin having ANY role in Washington, whether it be a Senator, Congressman, Cabinet member, of Vice President/President, would indeed be DISASTER, Oh, and by the way - I wonder who's taking care of Sara's kids, these days?????????????????????? Super Mom turned into "Money Grabber"!! Plain and simple!!

Axey   October 2nd, 2009 8:40 pm ET

Bill Clinton's book was written by someone else. Hillary Clinton's book was written by someone else. And according to Andersen, Obama's book was written by someone else. Not sure why Palin having someone write her book is a negative to liberals.

Doug   October 2nd, 2009 8:35 pm ET

CNN can't get enough of Sarah Palin. They write about her every chance they get. Why are they so afraid? She has made (2) Facebook blogs in the past 6 months, and the press goes in a tizzy.

If she was so unimportant, so uneducated, so imperfect. Why does the media grab any negative story they can and post it as fast as they can?

She controls her message unlike anybody in recent history.

Like her or not, but the media salivates over a good Sarah Palin story.

She will have plenty of Power in the coming years, there is no doubt.

How she uses it will be interesting to watch.

As she said..........wait for the book, and i'm buying.

Tim_CA   October 2nd, 2009 8:16 pm ET

Looking forward to the read – should give us some insight into the disaster of a campaign that the cranky old RINO gave us, which, in itself was fascinating to watch. Must have been a real rollercoaster ride – the old RINO couldn't draw flies, while Ms. Palin was filling halls.

Don't know much about Ms. Palin, but I like her attitde, and she certainly has more experience Governing than a certain "present" voting Junior Senator from a certain Northern city known for "pay to play" and abject corruption – and he made it to the top office.

She might be "better", but this country needs "best" REAL bad – our current President (who campaigned as a moderate) took a sharp left and hasn't straightened out the wheels yet (gee, who'da thunk it?) – after 4 years of soaring debt (faux pork-laden stimulus bills, rampant entitlement spending, fairy-tale energy taxes), we're going to need someone sharp to straighten out the mess. Both houses will retain D majorities in 2010, but they'll be crippled badly, and the Blue dogs are at least rational – that'll slow things down.

Hopefully we'll get some insight into Ms. Palin with no MSM spin or blogger drooling worship, and settle the issue early.

As always, I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the lemming-libs obvious fear and hatred of this woman. Further the supposed "party of tolerance" has no problem hurling the most mysoginistic, sexist, demeaning insults at both her and her family (simply scroll-up if you doubt this) – yet cry like little babies and scream RACIST at anyone who has differences in opinion with thei holy messia...but I digress...looking forward to the book.

I truly wonder what people see in her except that she is an attractive woman. She only demonstrates the ugliness in the human character. Her followers don't understand she is doing all this for the "money" and the "fame." She will use anybody for her own personal gain. I'd be completely embarrassed to believe in her. She spouts such hateful, divisive words, it makes me leary of many of our citizens because of this "talk."

Sarah Palin is a religious fanatic who is obsessed with gaining political power.

And just like followers of the Taliban in Pakistan, there are millions of religious fundamentalist crazies in the US who follow her. Fortunately, the majority of Christians are more sensible and know she's a self-serving Elmer Gantry in a dress.

Reading the comments from McCain's campaign head is hilarious. Do I really need to read what he thinks of her when he so obviously made it clear that he hated her before and did all he could to rip her to pieces during the campaign?
And reading all the comments here is so typical. All dems ridicule her as if we expected anything different from them too. They ridiculed Clinton so Obama could win so hating another woman shouldn't be unexpected. They both dared to go against the media's history maker.

We all know what will be in the book. The book will be about how the mainstream media were unfair to Palin, how the mainstream media were in the tank for Obama and gave him the election. Of course, this does not explain how George W. Bush won two terms, but I don't want to make things too complicated for Palin supporters.

ctay   October 2nd, 2009 7:16 pm ET

Wow the posters here really love to attack Palin about her book. If you dont want to read about the book or the story printed here, please hit that little red button in the upper right hand corner. Its such an easy solution. Gees you guys all say Palin is not smart. How dumb is sticking around on a news webpage to comment on politicians that you will never vote for and who dont currently hold office, and I might add do not currently weild any power within the government at all. There must be something else to all the anger against her-I recommend a psych eval or just stay off the internet for a while. PDS takes time to get rid of. There is no cure ever, because Palin is here to stay, all you can do is control the symptoms and try to ignore her if you dont like her, or learn to deal with the reality that your opinion is not going to have any effect on whether Palin runs for office or not.

PS–I really think you commentors that keep whacking Palin's intelligence are a lot like Letterman. He spent a lot of time making derogatory jokes about politicians scandalous affairs, but it turns out Pervy Letterman was the one having the affairs.

That the disenfranchised, the Ludites, the financially frustrated and socially constricted, angry and vociferous extremist groups support Palin, says an enormous amount about her qualities. Rabble-rousing, plaid-shirt waving, gun-toting and bigoted Pailin is showing the world the ugly, poorly educated, xenophobic side of our population.

Discussion of specific issues, topics, in-depth understanding of complex national and international problems, is given a wide berth by Palin and pals and (pseudo) patriots.

It is not her "fault" for being in the spotlight. It is the fault of the GOP who are so disorganized and unfocused that anyone, just anyone, even someone like Palin or the Gaga girl becomes a star to them, the mediocre layer of Americans who accept the less that the mediocre to lead them, and mostly, the media who are avid of any piece of information that can put a good buck on the table. The world is on the brink of going crazy, it needs responsible people who CAN make responsible decisions. Wake up America and don't repeat a mistake that is worse than that of electing Goerges Bush. If the world Bush left behind can be qualified as catastrophic, the one Palin would leave will be called apocalyptic! Incompetence is bad, but ignorance and stupidity is dangerous.

Unfortunately, this administration and congress have used the " previous administration" excuse like a crutch since taking office and we can expect to see more of the same for 3 more years.

Palin 2012! I just hope she will still have a treasury to use at that time and doesn't have to learn to speak chinese to access our government's funds.

Sara is a real person, and that is one of her greatest assets. I for one am sick and tired of the "normal" politicians and twittering elite who put themselves above those they consider the unwashed masses, too ignorant to make their own decisions. They often lack real world experience and have never done anything but go to law school and work on government funded projects where success is not dependent on performance or ability. Incidentally, it appears they have learned how to write incomprehensible laws (or their staff have) that they can't understand anymore than a regular guy could. Don't think Sara is dumb or ignorant – think she got stuck with "handlers" who were afraid of someone who speaks truth.

So money=good to you? I don't care how much money Sarah Palin or anyone for that matter makes. The value of a person does not have anything to do with a bank account. She has been found on truth meters to be HIGHLY False on many of her statements. Trying to find something to "stir" or "scare" people. Im sick of her.. and I do not plan on reading her lies. I read about them enough on CNN and other Networks that I guess think they find her "credible??" Yeah... Whatever!! Get news that is truth not lies and propaganda to stir up stuff, get the American people angry with one another. I think if America falls.. it will be the result from Media and people like Palin that Lie. I really do!

J.P.   October 2nd, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Ronald Reagan said this best in 1975:

"I don‘t know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, “We must broaden the base of our party”—when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents.

"It was a feeling that there was not a sufficient difference now between the parties that kept a majority of the voters away from the polls. When have we ever advocated a closed-door policy? Who has ever been barred from participating?

"Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?"

Love her or hate her, you KNOW where Palin stands on issues, and that sort of certainty unnerves squishy squashy liberals whose world view has so many shades of grey, they won't even take their own side in an argument.

TCM   October 2nd, 2009 5:53 pm ET

I love how Palin just rubs you libs the wrong way...I've never seen the truth be so painful....

victim of republican greed   October 2nd, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Sarah is going to 'swift boat' McCain.

marcus2   October 2nd, 2009 5:52 pm ET

"The Governor will write all about this in her book," said Meg S. That's a laugh. Whatever is written will be the work of a ghost-writer. Sarah Palin couldn't write her way out of a paper bag.

Susan   October 2nd, 2009 5:51 pm ET

"WILL write about it?" Wait, isn't it finished, Ms. Stapleton? Should you not have said, "Sarah wrote about this in her book?" I think the public is being duped here...she may have gotten a huge signing bonus, but I betcha the publishers are taking a dive on this...after all, they are already discounting it by 40% on Barnes and Noble...and I can hardly wait to her Palin handle an unscripted, not set up interview somewhere other than Fox. Betcha she won't do them!

victim of republican greed   October 2nd, 2009 5:51 pm ET

I want to read the chapter where she explains why it is OK for her to run around with commies and take money from them.

Coherent1   October 2nd, 2009 5:50 pm ET

Palin sucks as a politician. She's not as coherent about issues as I would have liked her to be as a woman in government. Kinda dense to say the least. But when she puts her mind into achieving something, nothing or no one will stop her. Yeah I cracked on her goofy butt when she stepped down as governor. Then I thought about it.....she walked away from it all, to pursue whatever it is that she wants. For that reason, and that reason only, I'm inspired by her. Looking for the guts to do the same.

Obama/Biden 2012.

Ray   October 2nd, 2009 5:48 pm ET

...And also I told that there bookstore sales man I said "Thanks but No thanks you betcha and also ::wink wink::"

Obama Landslide   October 2nd, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Hey "Welcome to the Obama Show"

Why is it that none of Bailin' Palin's fans can spell?

Oh, sorry. Forgot.

Education is such an elitist thing.

EC   October 2nd, 2009 5:48 pm ET

"Palin is holding back her FIRE"? What fire? This woman is a walking misfit of information and credibility. Who cares about Sarah Palin's books. Who's scared of a 5-college journalist? Who's scared of Palin the Quitter?

The only folks buying her books in BULK are the RIGHT WING WACKO organizations who will pass out her book f\or free!!!

Don't believe the bogus LIE about her books selling. This is just another ploy to LIE about the true sale volume of a book. Not surprising.

Just give the book a couple of more weeks. It will soon be in the "CLEARANCE" or recycle pile.

enoughalready   October 2nd, 2009 5:47 pm ET

Yawn!

sifto77   October 2nd, 2009 5:45 pm ET

What a bunch of idiots here cutting up SP–she has the last laugh on all of you and David Letterman–her book has already made millions–she is probably already richer than that little CBS rodent Couric–Good does win out , I truly believe. And Letterman is finally showing his true colors as a left wing loser. He can try and weasel his way out of this one–but won't succeed.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   October 2nd, 2009 5:45 pm ET

What will he learn from the book?

If the book is parallels the Twitter twit's time as Alaska's governor, the last 200 pages will be blank, because she lost interest and quit.

al   October 2nd, 2009 5:45 pm ET

sarah is just aweak little women who couldnt get over the fact that politics n media was to much for couldnt handle it so now she wants to prove some prove what palin the only thing ur proving is that u still can get over what happend u cost mccain the elections n all ur dirty little secrets were expose look my advice get over it move on

HJA   October 2nd, 2009 5:44 pm ET

First of all Palin didn't write this book. She hired a writer. Second, she has been in this for the money all along. That's why she quit as Alaska's governor. Third...............I can wait........I can wait forever. I gave up comics a long, long time ago.

Carrie   October 2nd, 2009 5:43 pm ET

Sorry Sarah , Thanks but NO thanks , I will pass on the book.

I watched the campaign daily and listened to your tirades, do not need to read the book to know how unfit you were to be VP then, and reading your will not change that!

George   October 2nd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

Instead of electing an average intelligence woman who would have checked with MIT PHD scientists for objective non partisan opinions on global warming, we elected a socialist who admires Honduranian dictators-would-be, Castro, communists like Ayers who wrote his book "Dreams of my father", America haters like Wright.

If Obama gets his way and spends 11 Trillion on socialist agendas, his true goal would be to create such a horrific capitalistic crisis and 30% unemployment so that at the end of his 2 terms he will become the eternal Putin of the USA.

Like he said at Harvard: I chose the socialist marxist teachers I could find.

Lila   October 2nd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

Don't you mean the Ex-Governor will have her ghostwriter (who is also insane) write it in her book? ;-)

Josh   October 2nd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

What a bunch of morons these ladies are. How will you address remarks made today in a book that is already published and printed? They can't even lie properly anymore.

Dinah   October 2nd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

Bring her on! Will squash her like a bug.

PD in KC   October 2nd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

As has been famously said, "That isn't writing at all, it's typing."

Luckyk   October 2nd, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Palin's book was "ghostwritten" by Lynn Vincent and Robert Stacy McCain (no relation to John). She couldn't even READ a book in four months, let alone WRITE one. She and her publishers will make tons of money hawking a book that with her name on it.

g canada   October 2nd, 2009 5:40 pm ET

should have been called politics for dummies

Laughing in middle America   October 2nd, 2009 5:40 pm ET

I do agree that Mrs. Palin has talent. However that talent is best suited for late night comedy and use by anyone that runs against her. She puts her mouth in gear long before her brain starts. If a light weight interviewer such as Couric can fluster her there is no chance she can handle the real pressures. She will just quit if the going gets too tough. I hope she furnishes crayons with her book. Might keep the kids busy for a few hours.

single mom   October 2nd, 2009 5:36 pm ET

Her book cannot be nearly as catastrophic as the way Schmidt ran the McCain-Palin campaign last year!

Steph   October 2nd, 2009 5:36 pm ET

AMEN GI Joe!

Bullwinkle J. Moose   October 2nd, 2009 5:33 pm ET

"The governor will write about all of this in her book."

First , she's no longer a governor - SHE QUIT.

Second, SHE CAN'T WRITE.

Terry from West Texas   October 2nd, 2009 5:33 pm ET

Only Sarah Palin can save our republic from destruction! Only her incompetent performance as the Republican candidate for president in 2012 could possibly result in a Democratic landslide large enough to permit President Obama to push his agenda through Congress.

If she runs, I will vote in a Republican primary for the first time in my life – just to vote for her. I urge all of my fellow liberals to do likewise.

May God protect Sarah Palin until November 2012!

When liberalism becomes a disease   October 2nd, 2009 5:33 pm ET

McCain and his staff are just about as bad as Oliar, Rahm and the thugs. I wouldn't trust either.

G D   October 2nd, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Catastrophic is relative to your perspective. I think it'd be great to have a GOP candidate that couldn't identify to Couric any major press that she read on a frequent basis & continues to demonstrate that ignorance on a frequent basis. Why an abdicating 1-term governor is of any interest to anyone is beyond me.

bob   October 2nd, 2009 5:31 pm ET

everyone loves a good trainwreck

Jill   October 2nd, 2009 5:30 pm ET

I'm sick to DEATH of Palin! There is NOTHING in her book that I would be interested in hearing about. I'm sure it makes absolutely no sense! I think she is incredibly stupid!

Mickey, New York   October 2nd, 2009 5:29 pm ET

Screw you, Palin!

RRRUSA   October 2nd, 2009 5:28 pm ET

Just because something is dictated to someone who types it in into a computer document that you can print does NOT mean it's true!
Just writing a political 'Harry Potter' does not mean you have some magical power. I pray for Sarah's sake they run it through 'grammar-check'!!!

wait for the book?   October 2nd, 2009 5:27 pm ET

I very much doubt any one needs to wait for the book to know how dumb Palin is and how badly her run would be for president

McCain's aide was stating the obvious

WELCOME TO THE OBAMA SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!   October 2nd, 2009 5:27 pm ET

Come on Sarah please run for president!!

You have all the material to beat huissain obama.

Lets take our country back and start using common sense!!!!!!!!!

windfall   October 2nd, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Oh boy. She'll be all over right wing media shows peddling this thing. Let the deciphering begin!

GI Joe   October 2nd, 2009 5:26 pm ET

My IQ goes down just reading articles about her. I wouldn't spend one red cent of a few pages filled with her hate-mongering and ego-maniacal lies.
