WASHINGTON (CNN) – A top military adviser to President Barack Obama said Sunday that politics does not play any role in the advice he gives to the president.
Last week, Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, the former Republican presidential hopeful, said on the floor of the Senate that Jones was one of the president’s advisers who doesn’t “want to alienate the left base of the Democrat [sic] Party” as the White House considers whether to send more troops to Afghanistan.
Asked to react to McCain’s comments Sunday, National Security Adviser James Jones said he “took exception” to McCain’s remark.
“Sen. McCain knows me very well,” Jones, a retired Marine Corps general, told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, “I worked for Senator McCain when he was a captain. I’ve known him for many, many years. And he knows that I don’t play politics with national – I don’t play politics. And I certainly don’t play it with national security. And neither does anyone else I know. The lives of our young men and women are on the line. The strategy does not belong to any political party and I can assure you that the President of the United States is not playing to any political base. And I take exception to that remark.”

Everyone know McCain is an idiot.
Jones drank the Obama Kool-Aid.
Jones hit the nail on the head, McCain never does or says anything that is not calculated for politics. McCain is still a delusional,bitter old man.
General Jones – McCain is a politician today, not a military officer you came to outrank. His standards have slipped considerably, especially as a spokesperson for the Party of No. Your old CO is no more.
Its really hard to take anything the Song Bird of the Hanoi Hilton serious about military, or for that matter anythign else. This man was considered a mediocre pilot, rose through any rankings because of nepitism, involved in the loss of 5 military jets, and was called by the other of our POWs held in Hanoi as the "Song Bird" because he sang about our military operations to make his stay easier. Not very impressive really.
McCain will say anything. We see through the mask, sir, and we have no respect for you.
Just another example of republicans speaking out against anything and everything.
Their party first, destroy our president, win at any cost, support big business have brought additional heartaches to the American people and our country.
It is time for the republicans to put our country and us first.
It is time for the republicans to work for our survial.
It is time for the republicans to stop their sewer tactics, their fear mongering, lies, hate and become politicians who do the job they
were elected to do.
Why didn't Sen. McCain and his party "win" this war in Afghanistan over seven years ago? If they have all the answers now, why didn't they solve the problem then? Oh right, they dropped the ball on this war and moved on to Iraq which had nothing to do with 911. It's pretty hypocritical for the Republicans to now criticize how Pres. Obama is handling Bush's first war which he started over seven years ago. This is another mess that the President has to clean up.
The majority of Americans take exception to McCain's remarks. I swear, McNasty wakes up from a nap a speaks up without thinking. Most out of touch republicans, like McCain, are getting pretty good at going after military advisors.
Glad that old man and his nurse didn't win.We would be ten times worse off..
Uh huh. I don't buy that for a second. Every word or thought that comes out of the white house is driven by expected political reaction.
We haven't fought to win since WWII. Now we have politicians playing politics with military matters and a preoccupation with playing nice on the battlefield. We need to return to the reality of war, it is hell. If we are going to use military force, it has to be overwhelming, total, and absolute.
Whatever McCain said; I also take exception to it.
We lucked out when McCain was sent packing last November. The incredible shrinking party has nothing to offer but unwarranted attacks on those who try to fix this republican mess.
McCain, go drink your warm milk and cookies.
All the wingnuts do is play politics. So far, that has translated to their being rejected by a vast majority of Americans.
Lets face it,McCain and most of his followers should be in old age homes.
It seems as though the BALLS are starting to drop...
The spines, they are emerging!
Don't stop now!
Keep reminding this GOP who really runs this country and it is NOT THEM!
I agree with Jones – When it comes to the lives of our military and our National security there is no room for politics. Why can't people learn to just get along and work together. Last I heard we are one Nation under God, with Liberty and justice for all. I wish everyone would just get over them selves.
Everything the RepubliNAZIs say is negative. They don't involve themselves in the process only be critical . Their idea is "we are right, you are wrong, do it our way". Like their health care bill, they are a joke.
"Willy Brown October 4th, 2009 10:12 am ET
Jones drank the Obama Kool-Aid."
Actually Obama has been following the advice of McCain thus far in terms of his foreign policy; he's added 20,000 troops in Afghanistan and been slower to withdraw from Iraq than we originally expected. 58%of Americans want to get out of Afghanistan and he's refused to consider that strategy. You can't be serious in thinking that, just because one General says to send 40,000 Americans in harms way in a place where we're basically hated anyway, we should just go ahead and do it, no questions asked, no serious meetings, no looking at alternative strategies.
Furthermore there's absolutely no evidence that Jones has altered his views one bit since becoming an advisor to Obama . Show me where he drank the kool-aid; or, are you just responding in a knee-jerk way to McCain's comments. If McCain said so it must be so. If that were true we'd be in great economic shape I guess since the "fundamentals of our economy" were so strong.
Why would you choose to attack and denigrate the former head of the United States Marine Corps this way? Don't you have any respect for him or his service to this country?
Who cares what John McShame says – he's a sore loser.
Anybody that would pick Sarah Palin to run as VP is just plain senile!
The 'Obama Kool-Aid' is called common sense. It is time for the wingnuts to stop trashing the United States and embrace common sense.
About time somebody says it like it is. The Republicans will just criticize Obama for everything including giving a kiss to his wife in public. And what is all that Kool-Aid talk Willy Brown? Get over it.
Jones is a great man!!!
McCain is an ***. He picked Palin as a running mate. Need I say more.
McCain like so many in the GOP like to bring politics, especially the military, into every issue today because they know they will have a great number who believe them. How many believe McCain is a know-it-all about the military? If only they did some research.
what you did do McCain was inexcusable: release Palin on the American public, you should appologise
Willy Brown... you are a traitor and a terrorist!!!(In the words of YOUR great one....'If you are not with us, you are against us!')
I wonder if McCain will now fall back on the POW card.
If politics are not involved, then why is Obama listening to everybody other than his General, who he chose to lead our troops, in Afganastan.
Senator McCain needs to be voted out of the Senate. We need a young fresh mind that can do something. This is just a bitter old man.
Just think what we all missed out on... Had McAncient been voted in as President, we might be at war with North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and who knows, maybe even Russia since we're all Georgians and think like Joe the Plumbers. What a total butt-monkey.
BUSH didnt play politics? MCCAIN drank the LOSER KOOL-AID.
Songbird McCain should not be opening his singing mouth. From one vietnam veteran to another.
No, "Mr. Willie Brown," it seems it's you who drank the neocon-President Bush Kool-Aid.
Mr. Bush, backed by an ideology of aggression loking to recover some vague notion of American manhood after what happened in Vietnam, came into office looking for a war. Hussain was an easy target, but 9-11 complicated things. As Mr. Rumsfeld said, "there's nothing to bomb in Afghanistan." That's ideological, that's drinking the Kool-Aid.
President Obama may decide to send more troops to Afghanistan, a move I don't think would be right. But if he does, it will be because he's trying to win, not because he wants to dominate the world or line the pockets of his corporate cronies with cash, regardless of the deaths of American service personel or a huge price tag.
What's the problem Jones?
You're not the first General to lie to the American public.
Remember General Westmoreland...... General?
I do!
He and the political leaders of the day played politics with Vietnam too!
LOOK WHAT THAT GOT US!
As for Tony, Sue and James......Give us your comments after you start teething.
Get off my lawn!!! This latest outburst might have caused me to soil another diaper, McCain thinks to himself.
Wow! These postings are even more liberal than I anticipated! Of course politics plays in his decisions. How many of you have really talked to a General anyway. They are selected for their ability to be political....they have to be to survive in the military establishment regardless of service. COL/CPT is usually the cut-off before you have to become some sort of political personality type. Wake-up out there! Stop smoking whatever it is you are smoking and get a dose of reality. Of course this war is going to become political. Obama will have to strike a balance. This could very well be an mill-wheel about his neck come election time. All things are politic with Obama. As far as I can tell he hasn't stopped campaigning yet!
The Republican party needs to stop playing politics with our future. Their preserve the status quo and obstruct at all cost mentality is really hurting our country. We need to come together and support our government and its' leaders. Perhaps we should stop treating each other as enemies, but as Americans who do not want to pass on a Third World Country to the next generation. Most importantly durind a time of economic destress, Republicans and Democrats need to work together in an attitude of respect and civility. Senator McCain you are a hero. These qualities are desperately needed now. Please don't be so petty.
Hey you people, quit picking on McCain. He does OK for a guy with an I.Q. of 90. It's just really too bad he's in a position of political leadership with such limited intellectual resources and an instinct to self promote at every opportunity.
mcCain is the one who plays politics – as so all of his Republican cohorts who want to do nothing but try to defeat Dems. They seem to care nothing for the American people. Its all about getting money from insurance companies and oil companies and others who continue to destroy our quality of life and the planet itself. They care only about getting reelected. I would like to vote everyone of them out- beginning with John McCain. He has ridden the coattails of his so called 'patriotism' for long enough. Just the fact that he selected the ill prepared Palin is cause enough
Everybody kniows that Obama is not but a crinimal from the hood.
To Dave @ 10:37 -
McChrystal is the General on the ground in Afghanistan leading our troops, and whom President Obama met with personally in Copenhagen two days ago. Jones is a National Security Advisor who sits in a comfy DC office. Try to get your brain in gear before you put your mouth in motion you useless Cluster Fox News cretin.
We can all sit here and speculate on discussions between Gen. Jones and Pres. Obama. Unless you are in the room with them...shut-up!
THE ONLY PARTY THAT IS PLAYING POLITICS INSTEAD OF SAVING THE AMERICAN WORKING FAMILY IS THE NEO FACIST REPUBLICANS.
IF Bush was for having the olympics in chicago and went to europe to fight for US i would support him althou i think he was a complete failure. This is the united states of america and some issues politics dont have its place.
Oh wait a minute Bush was for having the olympics in chicago he was the president that started that bid a year ago LOL
REPUBLICANS celebrating becuse we the AMERICANS lost
REPUBLICANS should no longer wave the RED WHITE and BLUE colors during you speeches and campaign. YOU REPUBLICANS have PROVEN by 100 percent you are ANTI FREEDOM, ANTI AMERICAN
let me guess next the republicans will party and have a good ole time when TERRIOST WIN THE WAR, OUR ECONOMY TOTALY CRASHES, AMERICAN FAMILIES no long have health insurance.
GO SHOW YOUR PRIDE you TERRERIOST LOVING REPUBLICANS LOL
Obama, libs, dems, and all supporters are anti-american traitors. 11 more troops killed in the last two days. Don't worry Mr. Commander in Chief (disgraceful), the troops lives are not important. We know you have more important things to do like fly to Europe and get involved with the olympics and go on Leno and Letterman.
Mr. National Security adviser,
Good job for speaking out!!! You've got the stick, use it to stay the course and see US through these turbulent days.
Rich said – "Everybody kniows that Obama is not but a crinimal from the hood."
Hey Rich, get an education. Obama is a Harvard Law School Graduate? What trailer park did you graduate from?
MikeG
PS – learn to spell or get a spell checker "crinimal".
Poor John McCain, fighting a loosing battle for relevance.
It's the Democratic Party.
Well said,mr.Jones,John McCain doesnt have a clue anymore,and to think we liked him before he lost his spine in 2000.Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh are anti American traiters,along with the morons that believe them.To rejoice in the loss of the Olympics was disgraceful to say the least.
McCain is an old fool..... just look at his VP selection.
The former U.S. general in Afghanistan was fired by political wonks for his inaction. Gen McChrystal says unless he gets more troops on the ground there is not much he can do. We just completed a week when the power elite in this country came to together to decide on a unified course of action for Afghanistan. All of the political wonks had a retired general, or two, advising them. Since there was no consensus for this new strategy it sounds like pure old politics ruled the day.
My comment is simple – Before making the decision listen to all points of view – once the decision is made get in front of the wagon and help pull it..........Mr McCain and the entire republican party should take this advise to heart – unlike the previous admin who listenend only to those that said what they wanted to hear – The best decision come after healthy debate.
I am glad Obie is taking his time. W took 8 years to stare at it. Obie deserves time to think it through. I like slow roasted thinking. Sometimes, he needs a kick in the butt, but I rather that he analyze the situation over quickly throwing a grenade over the wall.
It is a complex issue and it needs some thoughts into it. All I can say is try all methods. I love ice skating and the champions goes to the one that perseveres and makes changes to correct problems
The GOP thinks that bringing President Obama down will put
America on their side: WRONG.
They are only succeeding in further turning the country against THEM,
thus insuring further democratic(the people) control.
. . .keep going Rush and Hannity!
If McCain had his way, we'd be carpet bombing the rugged terrain on the Afghan / Pakistan border, unleashing massive destruction upon rock formations, and wiping out all herds of llamas and camels.
John McCain should go the Palin family route... QUIT!
McCain does toss out the 'patriot' card more than the 'reverend' Jackson tosses the 'race' card. As far as being a military genius... McCain didn't know the difference between tactics and strategy during a debate with Obama. Funny thing is, Obama knew! That's not surprising though. McCain was a cocky jet jock that spent more time swapping stories in the bird farm ready room than he did studying military history. The majority of his active duty time was spent in the Hanoi Hilton. He almost 'washed out' of the academy. But like 'W', he had an influenetial father and grandfather that protected him...
good job Mr. Jones
John McCain must still have dick cheney and sarah palin in his ear...
I am sick and tired of this boohoo crap from some of the republicans .. they lost the election and can't stand it .and yes some people hate the president because he is half black .and some hate hime because he is a democrate.. but people like palin, cheney, rove, rush, beck, dumb ass hassilbeck,and so on . just wont let go and will not support the commander and chief of the UNITED STATES . so I think they are un american to start with and or not helping our country get back on its feet from the Bush Cheney debackle. it is a sad day .and news media has a lot to do with the problem .. they have lost sight on the news .and become no better than a rag magazine..
What is a crinimal?
It is time for the wingnuts to stop praying for a terrorist attack on American soil so you can say, "I told youDick Cheney is not as stupid as he looks."
National security should not be politicized by McCain, Demint, Boehner, Kyl, Ensign, or anyone else.
Hey Paul.... the guys in the white coats are looking for you.... How did you get out this time?
McCain is a schmuck. He should be barred from commenting on anything after his selection for VP.
He is nothing but a bitter GOP war hawk.
McAint,.. McWane,.. McInsane, ..or whatever the hell his name is, has made his reputation as a war hero,.. but he's tarnishing that image every time he opens his yap. This man is a war hawk, in bed with the military lobby,.. if he had his way, he would bomb the Vatican.
You can't fix stupid, but you can vote him out in 2012!
So we have been through the accusations (and reality) of sexism and racism in politics. From the comments on this story, ageism seems the latest tool for hatemongers. Disagree with McCain, certainly, but references to his age are as distasteful and morally corrupt as the racist or misogynist viewpoints which warrant our condemnation. Guess it depends on whose 'ism' is being vilified.
Right now at this moment while these politicians are bickering back and forth about these issues the Taliban is attacking our troops.
Someone better come up off of their butt's and make some decisions or this thing is going to get out of hand.
Obama is on the verge of making this his Vietnam. (as in the same results) That will be the final nail in the proverbial coffin.
Of course politics is being played...why have Americans become so naive? What is happening to our country that we so easily allow Obama and his political scallywags to just pull the wool over our eyes? I say kick them all out...Republicans and Democrats!
BS – in Washington (and especially Chicago) it is ALWAYS about politics.
"We haven't fought to win since WWII. Now we have politicians playing politics with military matters and a preoccupation with playing nice on the battlefield. We need to return to the reality of war, it is hell. If we are going to use military force, it has to be overwhelming, total, and absolute."
Stu's comment is worth repeating.
The name calling leftist / liberals need to move out of their mommy and daddy's house or campus office and get real jobs. Try a few years in the military and see the real world.
Rich,
Thanks for your post.
It proves what 80% of the people think of the GOP. You are mostly idiots, spewing hate, fear and misinformation.
Now go to church and pray for the President to fail like the rest of them.
Good for James Jones for injecting common sense where it belongs. If your life was on the line would you want the decision makers to make their decision based on politics? The President is doing the right thing and his decision will be the best that can be made under the circumstances.
I find it hard to believe that the wingnuts suddenly are concerned about Afghanistan. Bush lied when he declared victory in Afghanistan and started an unnecessary war in Iraq that cost us over 4000 of our finest military. (I won't mention the hundreds of thousand of civilians that were killed.)
Now, after 8 years of neglect, the wingnuts want us to now believe they actually care about our troops.
Just remember, lefties – the sting in McCain's rebuke is THE TRUTH!!
The Afgan war is truely a debacle now, wonder what advice he is providivg Obama. Sounds as if McCain may be right. How many reviewing thse comments believe the afgan war is going great? So McCain must be right!!!!!!!
McCain is an American hero that put his life on the line for every citizen in this country, show some respect. obama on the other hand can't be bothered to have constant communication with his generals in Afghanistan because he is too busy on date nights and stumping for the olympics...
ICARE, what you mistake for "analysis" is really the handwringing of an unqualified, radical, utopia-deluded, fool who apparently can't deliver on a single promise, has clearly overestimated the world's adoration of him, and doesn't appear to have the slightest clue on how to be president of anything. What you're being naive about is what most of us call amateur night, on on this night that we unfortunately have to witness for 3-plus more years, the amateur happens to be the first anti-American, Marxist president we've ever had. Hooray.
Maybe the reason he takes exception to what McCain said because he knows it’s all about politics and not about the safety of our solders.
He maybe was giving Obama great advice but its still up to Obama to just ignore it. Then again, he maybe giving Obama the advice he knows Obama wants to hear.
Do you people on the left understand that point because that is the same kind of thinking you had when Bush was president and his advisers were giving him advice on the wars.
The funny part is you on the left will now defend the same people you were calling liars just a year ago when it was Bush that was our president.
When McCain was crossing that bridge between the left and right, you liberals loved him. Now that he takes any stand that sounds a bit Republican, you call him crazy.
You liberals are nothing but juvenile nut jobs that care very little for the country you live in and are a bunch of Hippocrates!
The McCain I knew and loved would never have played the political card – he changed during the last campaign and he lost his credibility.
just like Republican conservatives cheering that the United States lost the olympic bid; it wasn't Obama losing; it wasn't Chicago losing; it was this great country.
get over the politics – support this country and our elected politcicans.
And here I thought McCain was still in Alaska hunting wolves from airplanes with Todd and Sarah. The next thing I expect to hear from McCain is we can see Russia from Alaska. There should be an age limit to elected representatives so old broken down fools like McCain no longer represent their state.
I take exception to anything John McCain says or does, knowing his small mind conceives of nothing that won't benefit him in the long run.
His political life is almost over, and he'll be lucky to be reelected this next voting cycle.
I find it ludicrous the same man who caused so many deaths in wartime of his own compatriots that landed him in Viet Nam so he wouldn't be murdered aboard ship, has the audacity and gall to claim his is the best way, the only way, and all others must fall on their swords.
If John McCain had been honorable at any time in his life, he'd have fallen hard on one long ago.
McCain seems have lost the ability to think. I voted for the man and have wondered why many times since the election. I guess he drank the Palin Kool-Aid and has decided to go down that nutty road. General Jones is doing the best job possible to give good advice based on his military expertise which is considerably more than McCain's. Perhaps if our nation had better leadership during the Bush years we could now be taking care of other major challenges left over and never completed by those idiots.
Very weak. There is no excuse for not having a strategy in Afghanistan after nine months and none in sight. The only plausible excuse is politics. All the while the troops there now are undermanned and at greater risk. Pitiful weakness on BO's part.
The wrold is thumbing their noses at him while he bows and scrapes to them all.
Reading some of the comments here is like watching a bad slasher film. This country is so lucky to have someone with Barack Obama's intellect and energy as president at this critical time in our history, yet some of these backwoods holdovers from the Civil War era are calling him a "criminal" and "traitor". They had all the confidence and patience in the world for George W. Bush, but no policy or decision by President Obama is good enough for them now. The statement that General Jones has "drank the Kool-Aid" is beyond irrational and borders on traitorous. The man is a war hero. John McCain is the one who plays politics with crucial national issues. That is what he and his party have been doing since McCain lost the election.
http://johnrj08.wordpress.com/2008/10/16/who-are-these-two-candidates/
John McCain said "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" then chose a narcissistic, poorly spoken quitter as his running mate.....he long ago eliminated for me his credibility.
Every time another republican opens their mouth and "democrat party" comes out it only further demonstrates their ignorance and complete lack of credibility. When do you suppose they'll start to offer solutions instead of misnomers?
I thought of leaving my own comment, however, after reading the some of the previous comments I realize that a lot of you are no better than those on the right, commenting on Fox. Lambs being led to slaughter. Think for yourself, look beyond the mindless cable news – news that is obviously bias.
McCain is wrong again as usual.
McCain was NOT elected. He's a war-monger that thinks more wars are the cat's meow. I will never listen to a man that crashed planes and sang like a canary when he was captured.
THAT does not make him an expert on war - quite the opposite, in fact.
NO MORE WARS !
Let's try to understand Obama....this spring he strongly implores Europe to add troops without hesitation to Afghanistan, now he wavers. The European news reports him as "weak". He fires one military commander and does not heed his new commander's advice. The man on the ground. Oh excuse me, Obama has military experience. Do the dems not read history? Did they not learn anything from the Russian conflict? Once again, it is cut losses, let the brave men of this country die for lack of a coutnry' support. No one cannot convince me this is not politics and placating the dems! Obama showed his lack of military support all through his campaign. For this alone. I do not respect him as an american.
GENERAL McCHRYSTAL was responsible for the COVER UP when PAT TILLMAN was killed by friendly fire. Why aren't we hearing about this?
Someone get Osama bin Laden.
We should not be doing anything else in Afghanistan.
If that takes 70,000 + troops, so be it. If it takes more, send them.
But they should not be doing anything except looking for ObL.
When they find him, kill him.
No show trial, or tribunal, or incarceration at Gitmo. None of that crap.
First guy that finds him, kill him.
Then kill that Egyptian that is his #2, if he is nearby.
The whole world will understand what happened.
Then pack up all our stuff and come home. Thank you soldier(s).
McCrystal wants to play Patton and MacArthur with an Army of Occupation like we had in Germany and Japan after WW II. He has said very little about bin Laden, which should be his complete focus.
He should determine if bin Laden is in Afghanistan, and if not, say so, and come home.
Jones should be doing nothing but advising our President about getting Osama bin Laden.
MCcain should go back to sleep.
Afghanistan is not a Country, despite how the US/Brits/French/Ruskies decided to draw maps after WW I and WW II. It is a bunch of different tribes trying to live like they have since the spread of Islam hundreds of years ago. We should not be there, except to get bin Laden. Someday, they will sort out their differences and become one or more Countries, and enter the 20 th century. Somday ,still farther away, they may join the 21st century.
Our Kenyan–in-Chief is not going to do anything to upset the ACORN crowd. They got him elected.
victim of republican greed October 4th, 2009 11:12 am ET
I find it hard to believe that the wingnuts suddenly are concerned about Afghanistan. Bush lied when he declared victory in Afghanistan.
Bush never declared victory in Afghanistan. Get your facts right before you write this down.
In addition, the people on the right understand how to fight a war while you on the left only know how to protest wars!
Most people on the right have been in our nation’s military service while most on the left only call these brave people nasty names.
I will stand on the right because I know others here have my back and love our country.
You liberals want to stab our country in the back and to live off the backs of hard working Americans.
McCain straight up stated the TRUTH....... Obama is more focused on getting his friends in chicago crooked deals than our troops at War right now...... OBama is a small pathetic President. And all you democrats whinning about how is being treated, he will be treated with the same respect you showed President Bush for 8 yrs, which was zero. What comes around goes around!!!!!
Yeah...Dumocrat party is way to go.
High taxes...heck yeah. We all love high taxes!
Biggest deficit in US history and 2009 biggest yearly increase in deficit in US history! Screw our kids and grandkids!
Socialism, because everyone deserves your money!
More czars in a six months than the Russian dynasty had in 300+ years. Awesome! Nothing like having non-vetted, un-elected persons running our country!
Obama's friends, staff, and closest advisors include racists, terrorists, convicted felons, self-advowed communists, and wackos! THESE are the type of people that should be advising Obama.
Transparency...so far has refused to release official birth certificate, adoption records, passport, elementary school records, high school records, Occidental College records, Harvard University records, Columbia University records, college thesis, Senate records, etc...Who cares if he said he would have the most transparent administration.
Release terrorists, but prosecute CIA personel. Definitely makes us safer!
Screw Poland, Chech, and Israel over. Screw our allies! It is much more important that countries such as Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran like us!
The French Pres called Obama naive and foolish. Israel feels, and knows, they have been stabbed in the back. Hence the anti-Obama protests in Israel that shockingly wasn't shown on tv. Poland and Check knows where they stand. Israel knows we no longer have their back and have betrayed them. Gordan Brown was stiffed by Obama approx. five times. Don't worry though, Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Cuba, and Venzuela think we/Obama are/is great!
Safety...it is much safer now that North Korea has tested two nukes and fired seven missiles. Also, Iran has tested its short and mid range missiles. And, for no reason at all Russia's two nuclear subs showed up a little over a hundred miles off our East coast.
Every other day, it seems, more troops are lost. The general is right: it's not about politics-it's about our TROOPS. Though I support President Obama, I am deeply concerned about the safety of our brave soldiers.
Our troops were never meant to be used as nation builders in foreign countries. The numbers of troops, whether more or less, can NOT be expected to replace the failure of politicians to bring to bear other resources for achieving our goals in Afghanistan.
Let's remember Afghanistan was Russia's "Vietnam." It is disastrously naive, and even moreso -extremely inmoral- to use our soldiers in this way, using their numbers, as politicians use rhetoric or money, to throw at an issue hoping it will go away. Whether Republican or Democrat, I think the majority of the American people agree: politics was- and IS- the problem here. Those of us who voted for change-haven't seen it- with regard to our TROOPS in Iraq and Afghanistan. What is GOING ON? Who WAS at the helm of this travesty during Bush? Who IS at the helm now? And I don't mean the military.
Will the military be used to occupy every land that doesn't agree with us? OUR TROOPS were meant to be used for precise measures NOT as armed shields for gross and continuous politicial failure. Party affiliation has nothing to do with it. THE MILITARY HAS DONE ENOUGH. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION? MORE TROOPS???
I don't think we are seeing the BIG PICTURE here.
Keep spewing that TERRIORIST LOVING REPUBLICAN HATE we love to have more control in congress
I don't understand why the media gives so much time to the McCains and Palins. We the American people did not vote for them for a reason. And we really could care less on what they are doing now. I wish the media would focus strickly on what is important and not on what is wrong. Don't give so much attention to the wrong and negative. Eventually if you don't cover them they will go away. You have the power to help calm our country down so don't worry about your ratings, take a little heat, but do what is right.
I hope our so called "commander in chief" actually makes a decision about additional troops in Afganistan before we lose another group of soldiers overnight. Either add more troops or get our soldiers out of harms way. Even most of the liberal nut jobs would agree with that.
I think it is time to stop the insults and start worrying about the people who are fighting for us every day, They are the rjeason that you have the right to make these statements about our leaders.
Retired or not, General Jones must think like a military leader when advising the President. I do not think either man would use politics in the final decision. I do believe that the President just met with our leader in Afghanistan. His input is important.
We left Afghanistan to pursue Hussein. We should not forget that fact. The insurgents did come back during that time and we have to do what we failed to do the first time.
If this is the degrading language that we are using to speak about our leaders I believe we all need to take a collective breath and calm down. This accusatory rhetoric used against the President, ?Sen, McCain, General Jones is out of place. This is just the rhetoric that makes our men and women in the military feel that we are not behind them.
Been there and seen that all before. We just never learn from our past mistakes when we combine hatred, disrespect, and rudeness into the discussion.
ANYONE who would rather see America fail than to see a democratically elected, African American President succeed, is absolutely sick, twisted, and deranged.
Like some religions, they pick on anything the other religions’ however petty the imperfect is in order to glorify their religions. Is this what the GOP doing? I wonder.
Sen McCain, You got your miltary thing, Grandpop and Dad, not you!
McCain needs to sit down and shut up. He is a loose cannon who's brain are mables bouncing off one another, imo. Look at who he picked as a running mate..and this man opens his mouth to speak and yet occupies a senate seat and we wonder why the country is falling apart.
The Senator from AZ has been clearly spending too much time in the bunker and now from the floor no less. It's apprently clear that he too has joined the loons from the far right who will say just about anything come press time....
The U.S. involvement in the "war" in Afghanistan MUST end. How many lives must be lost before we realize that we have no business being there with guns blazing. It wins no hearts, and costs the lives of our finest. Time for an exit strategy – way past time for an exit strategy. With all the brillance in this country – why or why does it always fall back to shooting a gun? More troops – NO. McCain is living in the world of payback – and Obama has forgotten his promises to the American public. This military mom voted for Obama because I thought he would be smarter than to get up mired in another bottomless pit conflict. I am sorely disappointed.
Is about feeling safe under Bozo the Clown.?
How many troops died today because all this Bozo knows how to do is vote present.
There's no need to for the GOP to hope and pray and wish that Obama fails. Obama's inability to make any change of consequence to get this country moving again speaks for itself. His critics are only pointing out the obvious. He appears to be inept and in over his head. He doesn't seem to take anything very seriously, and I'm sick of listening to him and YOU point to the Bush Administration. He's CEO and needs to turn this country around and he can't do it. I'll give him another 6 months and then, I give up on him.
McCain showed he would play politics and stick to a failed ideology regardless of the facts during the campaign. Had he stuck to his values, he might have won. But in the end that played the biggest role of all as to why he lost. Almost anything Republicans now accuse the President of, or his advisors of, that's allegedly bad, is something they themselves would do even if the country as a whole suffered.
Thank you Fringe media for putting this clueless man in the WH.
You will have to answer to the people.
McLame, never met a camera or t.v appearance he did not like.
Sarah the quitter with the litter on twitter at least brought the crazies out to his campaign.
We have a big problem in Afghanistan. If we stay we fight for a completely corrupt, often criminal, vote stealing dictatorship. The people of Afghanistan hate Karazi, and are starting to hate us too. So with this in mind we should pull up and leave them to suffer under the Taliban. On the other hand the Taliban would love this because they could invite their old friends Al Qaeda in to attack America again. Maybe we should stay?
So if we have this stalemate on policy based on the facts on the ground, maybe American politics might be the best way to decide what to do. After it is the American people’s troops who are fighting. Isn’t democracy about doing what the majority of the people want?
So maybe McCain wants to dictate to the American people a solution that he wants, and not what they want.
Yeah.... McCain never plays politics with the men and women in the Armed Forces by cutting Veterans Benefits.
What a deuche
Sigh.. To some people it seems as if everything Obama does is a failure. I truly hope these people are not hoping he fails. If he fails, we fail.
P.S. I take exception to liberals or conservatives faking like they are independents. Trust me, you fool no one when you put "independent" in your name because your words say it all...
McCain and the entire Repub Party are the ones playing politics.
They are intent on tearing down Obama's presidency at the expense of the American people, including our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The right wing will do and say anything to regain power and take care of their corporate buddies, which is all they have ever cared about.
McCain is right. Everything Obama does is pure politics. He hasn't made a decision on more troops because his base; Move On. Org and George Soros hasn't told him yet. And also he was too busy trying to enfluence the Olympic Delegates.
McCain is my senator, and must say, he no longer figures into the political landscape with many of the real Arizonians. Not the tranplanted Arizonians who keep propping him up over the years. McCain is only trying to resurrect his parties image after the losses they experienced. Besides the guy needs to look at grazing in the desert, and leave the polical scene for the sake of Arizona.
Ever since our new fool of a president took over, we have lost more troops in the shortest amount of time in the whole war. Great strategy Obama, we now lost eight more troops.
to 2012....100% less than if we had not gone there...Which 'bozo the clown got us there??
Amazing! People seem to be at war with each other in the US! North vs South all over again. Democracy – I believed people would present well thought out and considered opinions, debated the facts. Informed citizens would contribute to the debate.
It is so sad to hear references to Hitler and Socialism linked to the President. It is really sad and wrong.
I see and hear the hate of other citizens for the President. It is really terrible.
President Obama seems to be a decent man and President. It has been less then a year since he has been in Office and I think he is really trying to foster positive change in America. This is not easy! But slowly change is taking place.
Senator McCain knows that the President is trying to do the right thing and he should openly support it. It is not about Republicans and Democrats – it is about America! A united America. However...America is clearly divided...and at this time should be united...more then ever America should stand United.
As the demmies said about the repubbies on the 'die quickly' remark, looks like that is what the demmies are saying about our military in afghanistan. You only contact your general once in 70 days and the 20 min. when the taxpayers are upset with you and then it still takes you weeks to make a decision.
victim of republican greed,
So now that a Democrat is in the White House, you think it is now wrong to stop praying for a terrorist attack on U.S. soil? During the Bush years however, you as Democrats were all for it? My how you change your tune when it your guy in office. The fact is no one wants a terrorist attack on U.S. soil regardless of party and you are irresponsible for suggesting that any American wants that. Than again, you are a Democrat, which have a history of saying and doing stupid things, so it is to be expected. To prove my point, just read the "democrat" statements of hate and idiocy on this site.
I simply do NOT understand why Sen McCain didn't graciously RETIRE after he LOST the November 2008 election.
And, Senator McCain, please do NOT use the slur "Democrat Party." You know DANG well it is "Democratic," and I don't know why you want to COPY George W. Bush by repeating the slur.
Wow McCain! Dishing the military so you can politically posture for the cameras? nah! "You Lie!, "you lie!"
When in the hell will they just do "term limits" on these creeps and outlaw campaign lobbyist completely? Let's see the Republican logic/credibility here. McCain pick Palin as a running mate, Palin turns out to be as dumb as a stump as McCain, Republican Party still backing "dumb as a stump, lying, aduilters, and law breaking movie stars as well as draft evading cowboys. They say, you are what you eat.
Thnak G-d for a stand up, honest guy; Mr. Jones. McCain used to be one of my heroes, he's lost alot of lustre. That's too bad. McCain is the one who plays politics and comes up with non existent reality ideas so he can be re-elected in Arizona. He does this countrty no justice this way.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes it IS worth repeating as its very very true. It is ALSO worth repeating that George W Bush did near NOTHING there.
The age of conquest is OVER. We cannot simply walk in and decimate a nation who doesn't agree with us or we feel is even a mild threat. We CANNOT do that or the rest of the world WILL come after us or any nation that attempts it.
WAR in this age no longer exists. The only allowable tactic is police action and a show of force. If you were truly military you'd know that.
And your snide little whine about democrats "getting a job" is nothing more than a foot stomping hissy from a little man. WE work. WE don't have months to run around attacking townhall meetings and following the "tea party convoy". WE aren't screaming "no socialism ..... but don't touch my medicare".
Some are "Has Beens"; McCain the P.O.W. is a " Never Was".
Defense Secretary Robert Gates should request more troops
Something wrong some where
McCain has alot of nerve, he doesn't even support the troops when they come home, he votes against things that help them (ie. GI Bill for education). He doesn't mind them going to war and getting killed or injured, but G-d forbid he shou9ld support them when they come home. He's got his, so I guess the h*ll with them.
I guess he doesn't miond so much that many are homeless, living under bridges and in dire need of medical help psychologically, emotionally and physically.
Republicans are still IRRELEVENT, and the PARTY OF NO, and the PARTY OF NO IDEAS... Too bad, everyone gets hurt by that; Liberal to Conservative.
Paul... I guess you are proof that 'you can't fix stupid'...but stupid lost last November, how can you vote HER out???
I have a name for what John McCain has, his condition, its It's called SENILITY and there is no cure for that.
Asking Generals advice on war is like asking children about candy. They want it. If your asking how to win a battle ask a General, if you want to know if the battle is worth fighting you need more independent thought. I trust President Obama with this, more then a General who's whole career is based on fighting wars. My solution to this problem would be to pull out, if Afghanistan falls we can then fight a proper war aganst another country, we can send in the bombers instead this house to house stuff.
To all of the armchair generals,
1. How long are you willing to stay and how many troops are acceptable losses?
2. How many billions of dollars (Trillion?) are you willing to spend on this war?
3. What is your definition of winning? Are you willing to engage in a decade of nation building in a tribal culture and risk failure?
4. If we escalate this war with a build-up of troops and rising costs, who are you going to blame?
Before you criticize, answer these questions.
McWar is and will always be an arrogant bitter man who'll say things to get attention and make baseless accusations. I'm glad Mr. Jones stood up to McSame's drivel.
In the absence of a policy from the White House, everyone else will make policy. That includes McCrystal and McCain. Obama is weak, inexperienced, and clueless. Others that are not clueless are just trying to help him.
It is just sad to me. As a military Mom, I think only the Mom's should decide military policy. I think if we got the Mom's together on both sides, WAR, would not be the only option.
Gee guys, your testosterone is in your way.
Paul,
Where were you during the 8 years of the Bush administration? Government spending soared under Bush, as did the deficit.
Bush/Cheney and the neo-cons made us LESS SAFE. 9-11 occurred under THEIR WATCH, and they ignored the warnings they received in August of 2001 about Bin-Ladin planning to attack the US.
Then, they forgot about Bin Laden altogether in Afghanistan and plunged us into a costly war in Iraq, which was based on lies about WMD and Hussein's connections to 9-11.
As far as czars, Bush had 47 of them. That's right–47.
Taxes? President Obama has repeatedly said he will not raise taxes n the Middle Class–he wants to take back the reckless tax cuts that Bush gave to the wealthy. (Reckless because you NEVER cut taxes during a time of war–it causes HUGE DEFICITS).
You need to stop watching Fixed News and listening to blowhard Rush - maybe then you will learn some facts.
That's right, I forgot–the right-wing extremists don't about the facts–they just spew lies, fear, and division so they can regain power and help the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the rest of us. It's what they do best, and it's why the Repubs are a dying party.
It's amazing how keyboard commando's sit in the comfort of their own homes and deploy kids to the meat grinder! I ask you, just like I ask my co-workers, how many of you are pushing your kids of war fighting kids to serve????
We should forget about old dinosaurs like Jones and McCain, who are desperately and vainly trying to grasp onto any fading morsel of their old glory days. Out to pasture, fellows. Listen to McChrystal, who has on-the-ground current detailed knowledge (and a recent history of success), and not these cats and their in-fighting for face time.
Oh, and by the way, Mr. O, you too would be better served by spending more time speaking with your military advisers and generals than trying to stroke your own overinflated ego with failed attempts to get kick-backs for you and your Chicago croonies in Copenhagen, and endless television appearances where you try to look good, but you say nothing of any substance. That may work in campaigning to ACORN, but now its way past due for you to provide some real leadership and real action.
During the election McCain was doing a live TV interview. He did not know a Shia from a Sunni, nor Al Quida from Iranians–Joe Lieberman had to lean in over his shoulder and straighten him out. That happened TWICE. In another interview he spoke of the Iraq-Afghanistan border–which does not exist, because at least 700 miles of Iran lies between them.
McCain was once an honorable military man, but he has forgotten more than he ever knew. Now aren't you glad he's not the Commander-in-Chief of your children? He'd stay in a place 100 years, but he doesn't know where he is or who he's fighting.
It seems like everything is so meshed now...Perhaps famous reporters Bartlett and Steele could give us a perspective on this.....or at least we can surmise insight...any connection of this guy to SAIC? ..that would tell us more.
Good for Jones for speaking up. McCain is moving too far to the hatefilled right.
schooled
Because McCain was a pow he fancies himself an expert on all things military. He's not an expert on anything except marrying rich. People are getting extremely tired of the GOP and their gleeful undermining of America.
Thank you Fringe media for putting this clueless man in the WH.
You will have to answer to the people................................................
I do belive the people spoke loud and clear last November. Sarah Palin wasn't clueless??? Ret. Gen James Jones, I applaud you for telling it like it is.
All you liberals (such as James from Chicago) the only verbage you know is to call a conservative names. Why do you think your Jones is so much smarter than McCain. Maybe he would wanted to change places with Senator McCain when he was in that great Hilton Hotel in N.Vietnam. When will you liberals learn to say something nice about anyone in a different party then yours. Of course some of you even call your own party members names if they don't agree with your ideas.
to Paul? Higher Taxes? Are you a smoker? Otherwise you are wrong.
Socialism? Elaborate....doubt you can with facts only.
Deficit? yes but tell me a Repub that hasn't had deficit spending. and spare me the our grandchildren crap. Think about how many things you do that aren't good for society or the environment.
You sound like the racist, paranoid birther. You and you fringe whackos like Michelle Bachman keep putting yourself in a corner.
Czar? This a media named term. and if you agree with the term Bush had more Czars than Obama.
It's people like you that made the Republican party minority. You don't put country first....think about that the next time you go to Wal Mart to buy foreign products in your gas guzzling polluting pick up as you throw your McDonald's wrappers out the window.
Thank you and have a great day.
Ignore Mccain and his comments. He's just another politician who remarks for no reason and hopes to be remembered after his defeat for presidency.
In addition, Mccain should quit deriding the Democrats, since there are other pressing issues that need to be discussed such as the question of whether troops should be withdrawn or increased.
Lastly, Mccain should just allow Jones to do his job, and help the Democrats lift a nation in the dumps. This is what the American people want. Not blabber-mouth politicians.
McCain treats members of the military the same way that other Republicans do.
He respects your service IF you agree with his politics.
Senator John McCain is a true hero & should have been our President...Sarah Palin is intelligent & honest...a role model for the good American women in their roles as mothers, wives & providers...those who critisize them are JEALOUS, are the Dems that are trying to convince America by their LIES...remember Obama when he was campaigning?...or still is campaigning...Obama should settle down & try to be a good President instead of a n actor/campaigner...look at all the money he is costing the American taxpayers for Air Force 1 & Security flying to other countries & I might add giving them our money, flying to various states here for Town Hall meetings when he could easily speak via TV & the internet...tell Obama to start addressing America's concerns not those of other countries...Obama's attempt to close Gitmo is an insult to the families & friends of 911 & all the true American people...Obama's criticism of our CIA who have protected the US against further 911 attacks is not the role of America's president but an ill-advised amateur...Senator McCain,please advise President Obama who needs the help of a well experienced intellectual & war hero like yourself...to those DEMS who are constantly saying that a person is too old a word of advise: Look at the older people in your family & among your friends, from them the youth gains intelligence & experience, and, the youth asks them to be leaders...Senator McCain is an excellent example of this!!
McCain is yesterday's news and his words do nothing to move the matter forward. As a politician, he has become irrelevant. As a military man, his image is far overblown.
To all Birthers, Deathers, Tea-Baggers, Gun-toters, and non-questioning apostles of Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc:
It is clear you will NEVER approve of anything President Obama says or does. It is clear that you want his presidency to fail, and if you want him to fail, you want the country to fail.
That is treason. So, please take your treasonous agenda and leave the Union so the rest of us can PROGRESS as a country rather than REGRESS.
I fully endorse the notion that the President always entertain options related to this war or any war. The enemy is constantly changing tatics and thus a new approach could be needed at any time in a war effort. However I am apalled that Obama would put off even looking at his top General's assesment while he asks others to come up with alternatives and try and keep it hidden from the public. This is his "Man' he chose for to lead the effort in Affiganistan. He should be all over the assesment ASAP from the moment it was available. The decison to try and keep it hidden is a clear political move by Obama. He knows sending more troops would doom him with the liberals in his party. I have no problem with asking for alternatives to sending 40,000 more troops, he should do this. But to delay and try and hide a critical assesment from his top man for weeks for the purpose of his own political cover makes me sick.
The reason for the increase action is the bad guys smell weakness in the new dear leader. barry waits to see the poles wial men die . He cuts the budgets and puts men in the meat grinder, GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED OR PULL THEM OUT. Or are too busy taking over the US
McCain is sounding a little like a sore loser!
I tend to agree with Jones, I think there is a far bigger picture on the horizon than the quagmire we are in with Afghanistan. It is called the Dark Menace of the Peace aka Iran. Obama and his military advisor's had better wake up and LEAD our Nation and the World against an establishment government of tyranny, oppression and terrorism in the Middle East. Israel will soon take the lead in protecting themselves and I for one am beginning to think the World... if we do not play this right, it very well could escalate into WW3.
Personally, I would take a look at the article right below this one to see that our NSA James Jones is an idiot who is playing politics. As a retired Marine General, he should be taking the advice of his boots on the ground, in this case General McChrystal. A very big reason why the slaughter in Vietnam happened was because the Johnson Administration was doing the richard dance, much like what James Jones is doing today, and not listening to the commanders on the ground. You would have thought that James Jones would have remembered that lesson, being a boot on the ground in Vietnam, but I guess not. Lets not play politics with with our men and women who serve so valiantly in Afghanistan, rather lets give them our 100 percent support to finish this mission, once and for all.
How many thousand died in Iraq for a bogus reason? How many less lives would have been lost had our last President stuck to the real war in Afghanistan?
All you Obama haters seem to have short term memory loss. Had we focused in Afghanistan like we should have we probably wouldn't be in the situation we are now.
When people questioned Bush about Iraq the were labeled as traitors and Un Amercian. Now these same people are criticizing Obama but it is ok because they are always right......(Sniff).........I smell hypocrisy and double standard. Typical of both sides.
I lost all respect for John McCain when he caved to the religious fanatics of his party and spoke at Jerry Falwell's school in 2006. McCain compromised his integrity for a shot at the presidency – and he continues to compromise his integrity in his quest to be an "elder statesman" for the GOP.
It's sad and unfortunate that McCain has not figured out that the people he's sucking up to are the very same ones who smeared him not only in 2000 when they spread rumors about his "illegitimate black daughter" during the primaries, they are also the ones who foisted Caribou Barbie Palin on him in last year's election.
Like everyone else, the GOP leadership has only used and abused you, Senator McCain – and you look like a fool. Now is the time for you to regain your self-pride and stop spouting their nonsense and following their marching orders!
I love when you bloggers on the right start accussing the left of name calling...since you guys made name calling an art form. And Nancy G...Fringe media...really...Its obvious where you get your fake news from since FOX has been pushing the idea of "fringe media" for weeks now, but as I see it the only fringe out their is these right-wing racist kooks that FOX is using for ratings.
To those who bring up John McCain's experience as a POW in Vietnam as an argument in support of everything the Senator does:
Senator McCain's experience as a POW does not give him special powers of intellect or deduction, especially in regard to current military matters.
National Security Advisor James Jones, who is a retired Marine Corps general, has a lot more experience in commanding troops than John McCain does, which – in my mind – makes him more knowledgable about military matters than John McCain.
McCain know playing politics when he sees it. Because he does it all the time. He used to be a real maverick... back in 2000. Until president Bush got elected. By 2008 he had no spine left and weas voting with Bush over 90% of the time. Then he manufactured a neocon platform for his presidential run. Obama within half a year adopted several of McCain's original ideas from 2008 to the letter! And yet now McCain opposes them as if it was a liberal platform. Now that's playing politics! Did I say 'playing politics?' I meant to say 'being a maverick' of course...
Four things the press constantly overlook as they arm chair quarterback:
1. Bush/Cheney were the ones who abandoned the fight against Al Queda in Afghanistan for 7.5 years and McCain had nothing to say about it.
2. NATO is a part of the equation as they also are involved in the fighting and training. TYo abandon their views will mean more American troops as they will pull out.
3. Before any decision can be made, the results of the Afghani election and the Afghani's response to it MUST be part of the decsion. I imagine the White House will be putting pressure on Karzai to give his opposition a role in his gov't, and what better way of doing so than delaying the decision to send more American troops until he gets a responsible gov't in place.
4. Sec Gates has already stated the troops asked for won't be available until the Spring. If the Rep. are so determined more troops be sent earlier, they should be figuring out how to increase the miltary and how to get the equipment in place if they think they can change that on an quicker time table.
Indiana voter-
When we were attacked on 9-11, I supported our president. It was after his putting our troops in harms way for a cause that seemed to be more, "Saddam tried to kill my Daddy," than for national security, I became somewhat disappointed. When we learned there were no weapons of mass destruction, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, and the attacks on constitutional rights, etc., I did become very critical of Bush.
As for my irresponsibility, I am merely reporting what Limbaugh, Beck and your other heroes are saying.
G W Bush got Iraq under contol when the Liberals wanted to Cut and Run like the Cowards they are.
America is watching everything Obama does and if He knows whats Good for Him then he better get "HIs War" under control.
If he fails anymore He will end being viewed worse than Jimmy Carter was. Under Carter there was Mortgage Rates at 25%, thats how bad Carter was.
CNN America is not Happy with your reporting on your socalled facts.
Everyone knows Obama is brown-nosing his left-wing loon base. Their is absolutely no excuse for him to be unprepared to make a decision on troop levels. What has he been doing for the past 9 months and beyond? His responses in the past have gone from anti-war to we must win. This guy is a puppet getting his strings jerked around and he doesn't know what to do because he lacks principle to base his decisions.
Jones you are full of Bull. All advisors are in it for the politics, that's what you do for a living. You are nothing but a Yes Man.
Now now dan .. no name calling , want your mommy?
Willy Brown October 4th, 2009 10:12 am ET
Jones drank the Obama Kool-Aid.
----------------
And you obviously drank the McCain/Palin Koolaid.. Tastes bitter doesn't it. Typical ignorant post from someone who has never served his country but then what do we expect from retarded neo-cons like you and Phoenix 86.
Al in Chesapeake:
You want to talk about name-calling?
Rush Limbaugh has referred to progressives as "lunatics," "fascists," and a host of other hateful, ugly labels.
Tea-Baggers carried signs comparing our President to Hitler, zoo animals, and witch doctors. Glenn Beck said that our President "hates white people." Right-wing talk radio, Fox, and Repubs in Congress sling insults at Progressives and our President on a daily basis.
Also, the Bush administration called anyone oppposed to the war in Iraq "appeasors" and "un-American." In fact, anyone who disagreed with Bush at all was called "un-American" by the right-wing media and politicians.
So, if you want to talk about name-calling, look no further than the right-wing. They are masters at creating hate and division.
Reminder: Afghanistan is a mess because the Bush/Cheney Administration never properly supported the military and civilian efforts there. They let Osama bin Laden slip over the Pakistani border, enabling him to reconstitute and make stronger al Qaeda.
Why did the Bush/Cheney Administration lose interest? Because Afghanistan doesn't have oil like Iraq and because their strategy for a two-term Bush presidency was to keep the boogieman (bin Laden) around and the US at war to guarantee they could scare the American public into voting for Bush in 2004.
And that's not paranoia – that's GOP "party before country" politics!
Bush never declared victory in Afghanistan. Get your facts right before you write this down.
In addition, the people on the right understand how to fight a war while you on the left only know how to protest wars!
Most people on the right have been in our nation’s military service while most on the left only call these brave people nasty names.
I will stand on the right because I know others here have my back and love our country. You liberals want to stab our country in the back and to live off the backs of hard working Americans.
Uh...heil hitler? Mien Fuhrer?
George Bush the II was the worst president this country ever had, the guy did nothing but spend spend spend and now we are all in the crapper and he lives like a king who knows all the under handed crap he was doing in the white house, the guy has a mind like a mule.
Concerned American...."Sarah Palin is intelligent, honest and a role model for good American women." Where in this world have you been? I must say that your standards for intelligence and honesty are extremely low. Did you too, take 6 years and 5 different colleges to obtain a bachelors degree?
Why would anyone care about what a senile two time loser says? Anyone dumb enough to gamble a national election by adding Sarah Palin to the ticket has poor judgment anyway.
I'd be more concerned if McCain praised me.
Dan October 4th, 2009 12:14 pm ET
You sound like a racist yourself and a mastery of name calling. You must be a liberal who does name-calling and hates people, but only sees it on others instead of yourself. A true Democrat indeed.
Asking Generals advice on war is like asking children about candy,they want it. If your asking how to win a battle ask a General, if you want to know if the battle is worth fighting you need more independent thought. I trust President Obama with this, more then a General who's whole career is based on fighting wars. My solution to this problem would be to pull out, if Afghanistan falls we can then fight a proper war aganst another country, we can send in the bombers instead this house to house stuff.
It amazes me just that just because McCain was in the military and a POW makes him an expert in strategy. Everyone knows as of late McCain only knows how to play politics. That was proven during the election when he picked Palin. He picked politics over country. When I know more about foreign policy more than the v.p. pick for McCain that says it all. It is easy to read a speech written for you especially if you have charisma. She is a pretty lady, was a governor and now adds quitter. Some pick.
For Conservatives (McCain, Palin, Limbaugh...) it's all about "the party" and "idealogy", so they are accustomed to politics and military decisions going ahnd in hand. Pathetic.........
How many more failures from Obama must we suffer before people (Dems and the Media) begin to hold him accountable. While his failure with Chicago hosting the Olympics is a little more than an embarrassment – Obama's failures with the economy (unemployment near 10%) and with foreign policy (Iran and Afghanistan) threaten our prosperity and our very lives.
Obama is fast becomming outed as nothing more than an intellectual elitist with no true grasp of how to handle the job of leader of the free world.
It's a shame that so many have been fooled by him – only because he can give a good speech.
Mr. Obama and General Jones are playing politics with the lives of American soldiers. I watched the same thing happen 40 years ago when the democrats played politics with the war in Vietnam. 55,000 young americans were killed and we lost the war. We need non-waffling leadership that will unconditionally support our troops. Just this morning an undermanned outpost was overrun and 8 americans were killed. NEEDLESSLY!! If the president and his lap dog, General Jones, backed our sons and daughters rather than pandering to the liberal left, perhaps the islamic facists would have paid the price rather than our kids. My strong personal support for President Obama is rapidly weakening.
Where all you republicans asleep when President Bush's policies where destroying this country..you all of the sudden woke up and now want to blame President Obama for the mess Bush and his cronies left us with. I , for one, believe Bush thought he was doing right...but we now see he was wrong. I am confused as to why all you "tea baggers" and "I want my country back" protestors never went out in the streets the past 8 years..whats differant( oh...I know....)
Don't respond to pressure of an idiot mr. president..
"It is clear that you want his presidency to fail, and if you want him to fail, you want the country to fail. "
Since those on the left continue to fail to understand this elementary logic, here goes. Again. I don't agree with many policies that he's trying to push through, so OF COURSE I WANT HIM TO FAIL. I want those issues that I and so many others disagree with to fail in order to maintain this country. You know, kinda like how people like you wanted Bush to fail when he wanted to go into Iraq. Rocket science, I tell ya.
For all you kool-aid drinking left wing, liberal, radical, mentally deranged, Obama worhsiping slaves. Wanting Obama to fail in his dangerours and beyond stupid agendas is not wanting America to fail. It is wanting to save America from Obama and for America to thus succeed. True patriots put the welfare of the nation first. Obama is incompetent. If he were to succeed in implementing his agenda, America would suffer greatly.
I dare those insignificant raccoon eaters-repugnants-to go and visit a VA hospital near them ( I bet none of them have ever served in the military because of their below plant level IQ's) and bring a cake or a bag full of goodies for those HEROES, not because they need it, but only to show your patriotism or lack of it
You can't fix stupid, but you can vote him out in 2012!
-----------------
Nah, we already voted stupid out on November 4th, 2008. And we're glad we did it too! The intelligent, charismatic President we have in office now will do nicely and be re-elected in 2012 tho!
I have always liked John McCain, but I started questioning his ability to make good decisions during the campaign. He has always represented himself as a military savvy man and yet he is one of a very few senators that has gotten the low grade of D from the vet's report card. Obama as a senator got a B. John McCain shoots from the hip with so many of his decisions and President Obama is not like that at all. I'm thinking that President Obama is going to take everything into consideration before he makes a decision. Popular or not.. it will be thought out.
Mike in Texas...
At least there are two of us down here. Well written/well said!
Of course Jones is playing politics... just like McCain. Regardless of who's president (Bush, Obama, whoever's next), the people around them always play politics. That's just how it goes. I, for one, have been against the Iraq war since the start and Afghanistan had hope at first. However, it's like we went in and forgot our mission. Whatever happened to stopping Bin Laden? Or did that dream die the day we figured Iraq was Afghanistan 2: The Sequel? Seriously, guys, if you want to win a war then WIN IT. Quit wasting time, money and lives for something that's not looking win-able (yeah, had to make that word up). Maybe we should put a few armchair generals out there with the grunts. Then we might have a plan.
"National Security Advisor James Jones, who is a retired Marine Corps general, has a lot more experience in commanding troops than John McCain does, which – in my mind – makes him more knowledgable about military matters than John McCain."
And McChrystal has more experience than Jones....so perhaps we should listen to him?
Everybody walking on the high road others stuck in the mud...and dont know ???? nobody is guantee any job you have to prepare for it.
"It is easy to read a speech written for you especially if you have charisma. "
See: Barack Obama.
John McCain's first "presidential" decision was to choose Sarah Palin as his running mate.That tells me all I need to know about John McCain!.............
Anyone who has spent any time in the military and espically in a war zone knows and will tell you that you can't win a war without "boots on the ground" . The headlines read this morning, another 8 troops killed in Afgan. How many more must be sacrificed before the self proclaimed know-it-alls in Washington admit they can't run a war from the White House! Lyndon Johnson tried it and see where that got us!
Let the Military do the job they are trained to do and let the politicians set back and watch it unfold on CNN. As a retired military officer, I'm ashamed and disgusted at what I'm seeing in our elected elite.
Mr. McCain,
We honor you for doing great service to our Country as a Soldier during Vietnam War.
We thank you very much and we recognize you great service.
But, We don't intend you to be our President. We don't want you to lead our Country. We don't want you in Politics.
Because:
1. As a Soldier you are not qualified to be a President.
2. As a Soldier you are trained only to solve problems by war.
3. As a Soldier you are ignorant about diplomacy.
4. As a Soldier you cannot understand, Economy, Health Care, Industry, Unemployment, etc.
5. As a Soldier you only understand, guns, weapons, bombs, etc.
Please for God's sake leave our Country alone. Let the qualified people take Control. You just need to relax and enjoy your retired life.
(reads comments)
it's clear that the right wingers here are only interested in saying "no". I'm still wondering when they will try to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
Team Obama you'd better take care of the troops.
I find it hypocritical that the Republicans gave Bush/Cheney a blank check for Halliburton, Blackwater and so for Iraq.
We all knew after 9-11 the terrorists were in Afthanistan.
The same party is now not wanting war????
The Prez and Gen. Jones are being very even handed. It seem that the Senator from AZ is being political.
On June 15, 2004, President Bush claimed victory in the war on terrorism in Afghanistan. He said,"Afghanistan is no longer a terrorist factory sending thousands of killers into the world.
Good for the
General. McCain is an idiot sore loser who uis doing his best to undermine the administration and should retire and go home to wifes money....
It's amazing to me how much the right-wing suddenly cares about Afghanistan. When Bush was in office, our troops there and the original mission of finding Bin Laden were forgotten in favor of the misguided debacle in Iraq, which has made us less safe.
It's clear that the Repubs are playing politics–they are trying to take the focus off of Healthcare Reform (a battle they are losing) and go back to the tried and true strategy of national security and scaring people.
To GOP:
You say that most people on the right have fought in wars. Let me elaborate on some of the Right's heroes:
Dick Cheney 3 or 4 deferrments to get out of Viet Nam service
Rush Limbaugh no service
Shawn Hannity No service
Bill O'Reilly no service
Glenn Beck no service
Let's try to understand Obama….this spring he strongly implores Europe to add troops without hesitation to Afghanistan, now he wavers. The European news reports him as "weak". He fires one military commander and does not heed his new commander's advice. The man on the ground. Oh excuse me, Obama has military experience. Do the dems not read history? Did they not learn anything from the Russian conflict? Once again, it is cut losses, let the brave men of this country die for lack of a coutnry' support. No one cannot convince me this is not politics and placating the dems! Obama showed his lack of military support all through his campaign. For this alone. I do not respect him as an american.
------------------------
Riiiiight...tell yourself that his lack of military experience is why you do not respect him...CONVINCE yourself that that is the reason...boy, the cloaked racism just does not STOP with you neo-cons does it.
McCain the majority of American people didn't want you for president. You lost the vote. So shut the "f" up! We don't care what you think.
I thank God everyday McCain didn't win. We'd be in WWIII by now.
Obama's failures are piling up,
I have an answer to your question. There is a certain group in this country that will never hold President Obama accountable. It will always be Bush's fault and he will run this country into the ground and never have to answer for anything. If you try, you will be branded a racist or you will be unamerican. At least I can look myself in the mirror and lay my head down at night knowing that I didn't vote for him.
What most of you COMMENTors CAN sa is not a solution, but to blame, ignore anyones opinion instead of examining the evidence... you just parrot the news you hear..DO RESEARCH from OTHER SOURCES...get educated to all points of view, you will change your opinions if you do. Then we will be able to IMPROVE the "crisis" and war obama lets continue
Our Campaigner-in-Chief is "acting stupidly" and his staff is following his lead. I had high hopes for this administration and it is proving to be more incompetent than the last. All of his campaign promises are being shown to be nothing but hot air and we have been lied to.
Ladies and gentlemen, we will soon be looking with admiration at the fantastic accomplishments of the Carter administration in comparison–that is assuming our country hasn't been spent into oblivion.
mccain is a jerk! always was, always will be! mccain absolutely proved beyond a doubt that he is the one who puts politics above his country and the people who fight for it! He proved that he was willing to say anything, do anything and choose anyone, however moronic, ignorant and plain stupid she might be in order to win the Presidency. mccain cannot be trusted, mccain is still playing politics because he hopes it will get him re elected!
Shame on Senator McCain. A Republican administration put American troops in Afghanistan in a disadvatage by concentrating on fighting a war in Iraq for 8 years. Now that we are playing catch up, the GOP is years late in its criticisms.
You thought that McCain might be above playing Politics with national security issues?
Wrong, -– Thank God that he is not in control right now !!!!!
let's draft every single repugnant in the country.....send them to afghanistan..............that will be the fastest we have ever lost a war
Individuals like McCain can be dangerous because they do not understand that integrity is not a situation of being right all the time.
This devisiveness ship just doesn't end.
The GOP sat on thier hands and let Bush/Cheney destroy our country and lives in eight years, and they expect President Obama to come in and turn the country around to what it was in 2000 in nine months. He will turn this country around before the elections of 2010. Then what will the GOP do?
I have a grammar correction for Martina Stewart regarding John McCain's statement (Last week, Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, the former Republican presidential hopeful, said on the floor of the Senate that Jones was one of the president’s advisers who doesn’t “want to alienate the left base of the Democrat [sic] Party” as the White House considers whether to send more troops to Afghanistan). He did not use the phrase "Democrat Party" incorrectly. We have a democratic process, a Republican Party and a Democrat Party. Republican's are not "Republics".
America is a Country where there is no Dearth of Intellect. We have the most Brilliant Men and Women in the World. We have Professors; Jurists; Scientists; Nobel Laureates; Physicians; Chefs; Engineers; Poets; Novelists; Comedians; Artists; Academicians; Priests; Pastors; and many many other Noble People of Character.
Rush Limbaugh is an Unqualified Quack, who Spreads Rumors, Misleads and Concocts Stories, Buffs and Gossips. Rush Limbaugh is a Person who Spreads Hate, Jealousy, Animosity, Disparage, Negative Criticism and Negative Opposition, Disharmony and Disagreement.
Rush Limbaugh is Uneducated, Illiterate, Idiotic, Characterless Drug Addict and Distraught. Still GOP supports him.
I don't understand why people listen to him, when there are so many Brilliant Men and Women to Hear. God Please save Americans from being Swayed by Evil, Wicked and Immoral Men like Rush Limbaugh.
Hello all of you Right-Wingers in Fox and Limbaugh Land!
President Obama is now dealing with the mess that was created FOR 8 YEARS UNDER GEORGE W. BUSH.
Bush went to Afghanistan to get Bin Laden, then forget about him and invaded Iraq. These wars have cost billions, and have exploded the deficit.
Bush gave the wealthiest Americans unnessecary and reckless tacx cuts in a time of war, adding billions to the deficit.
Govt. spending SKYROCKETED under Bush, adding billions to the deficit–that is why many conservatives turned against him.
Bush de-regulated the banks, crashed the economy, then told us in September of 2008 that the American taxpayers wouldn have to bail out his Wall Street buddies.
On and on it goes, and now you right-wingers want to blame Obama for this mess? I don't agree with everything he's done, but he's doing his best to deal with the problems created by Bush.
Indeed, why weren't you right-wingers protesting in the streets for 8 years under Bush? Sheer hypocrisy......
@ Indiana voter...get real man. You seem to be the only one calling names....No one here has to point out the racist comments or feelings that are so obvious in most of these entries...Its obvious, its hateful...and if you think you can put the blame on someone else you are indeed a sad person. Its killing most of you that Barack and Michelle Obama are in the White House...well guess what they are and I am a proud white South Carolina voter who helped put them there.
Not about politics? I am ashamed of what this country has become. It is all politics. We have a president that thinks he is still campaigning. You can blame GW and republicans as long as you want but it doesn't get us anywhere. Where is the change? In the cups of the homeless. I don't like obama but I hope he proves me wrong. So far he has done nothing.
Stupid is as stupid types... And as most of you typically ignorant neo-cons either forget or didn't want to listen when he said it NUMEROUS times, "It took us 8 years to get into this economic mess, it's going to take a long time to get OUT of it." Name ONE Republican president who was able to turn a horrible economy around or stop a war within 9 months. Just ONE. You CAN'T so STFU and as for International relations? Mr. You either with us or against us did a bangup job making sure our relations with those overseas was in tip top shape right? I saw Europeans waving AMERCAN flags when Obama went over there. What were they waving when Bush went over there? A pair of shoes when were thrown and unfortunately, missed him. Brainless parasite on society.
with Isreal and the republicans banging the drums for another war in iran better think afganistan over bush lost that war when he went after the oil war in iraq
Why the delay? Obama has to ask George Sorros what to do next.
If you look at McConnell, Boehner, Greer, Wilson – I could go on and on – McCain looks pretty darned good! I'm thankful he and Palin aren't in the White House, but he's certainly not the worst Republican.
Jones is right on the mark, our President doesn't take orders from any party or John McCain who is only interested in his own political scoring points. It's way past time for McCain to take a back seat, he was sitting in a prison and not fighting a war.
Some of these supporters of McCains "hero status" really need to READ more of the truth about him. His military records are considerably less than stellar.
POW... yes, but so were a thousand of others. Hero? ... I don't think so.
Our wars have, unfortunately, given us much better heros. And also, unfortunately, they will continue to do so!
The GOP and its crazy party should move to Mars. They do not support or provide any constructive and meaningful solutions to Americans and other citizens of Earth.
High School Grammar Teacher:
We have the Republican Party, and we have the Democratic Party. Martina Stewart was correct in using [sic].
It's no wonder McCain is using the term "Democrat Party"...Bush did the same thing time and time again, in his attempt to rewrite history to his liking.
EPIC FAIL!
Im Glad that President Obama is taking his time to think things over before he start sending more troops to afghanistan. People lives are at stake and yes these servicemen and women knew what they was getting into when they signed up for the military but that does not mean we suppose to use them without coming up with a stratergy that is planned out carefully, The President have to be the one who have to face families when these men and womens are killed not the senators or the General he is the comander-in cheif so more responsibilty falls on the President. So im glad he is rethinking his decision.
Obama is playing politics to his base?
Coming from Republicans who cater to the tea bagger and birther mentality, that's really rich.
Those who continue to pile up on the president tend to see the glass half empty......And they are correct.......They, however, have misguided focuses......FP Bush left US with an empty glass.....So far, President Obama has gotten it back to half full.....We still have a long way to go, but thank God for a leader who thinks before acting, and humble enough to take the advice of others.....
Those who continue to be quided by the words of Hong Kong Sue, Beck, Limbaugh, Insanity (FOX), Dick Armey, joe, the heckler, etc, are all empty glasses in need of something, anything to fill the void in their lives....Such sad people....Devoid of direction – Devoid of hope.....Empty.....
Mr McCain has a war mongering mentality, as is expected of a military person. But that does not mean that all of us should feel this way. Vietnam was the wrong war for the U.S. and so is the Afgan war. Irag was the wrong war, but if Bush had any balls they should have taken out Saudia Arabia, since that is where the 9/11 bombers came from.
"I'm still wondering when they will try to be part of the solution"
If Obama and the Dems idea of a "solution" is the socialist-leaning, massive spending, weak foreign policy drivel exhibited so far, I myself can say "never". Judging by Obama's plummeting poll numbers, a majority of Americans don't want any part of your "solutions" either. Enjoy your brief run.
"It's clear that the Repubs are playing politics–they are trying to take the focus off of Healthcare Reform (a battle they are losing)"
It's clear you aren't paying attention at all. Look at the polls....support for Obama care continues to plummet. He can't even get all of the Dems on board. Keep your head in the sand if it makes you feel better, though.
The official name of the party is the DEMOCRATIC Party, so YES, Senator McCain is incorrect. There is no Democrat Party only the Democratic Party.
@ Dan, Amen to that buddy. . . .They just want to over look what Bush did to this country. All you TEA BAGGERS need to read Dan's comment and take heed to it. Don't let your hatred for Obama blind you from what happen in the last 8 yrs. You were BETRAYED so call them out on it and don't keep letting them use you for VOTES. ( code words, obortions, fear, tax & spend, etc.) something they're guilty us themselves.
Another untruth told by the military – politics doesn't play any role? And they call David Paterson blind.
The Russians were far smarter than Americans will ever be regarding Afghanistan: after committing 250,000 troops to that Neanderthal land, where only knuckle dragging Repubs and ignorant indigenous natives live, they took so many losses – America was fighting against them too by supplying bin Laden and the Afghanistan’s with weapons [Meddling like we always do] Special Ops people, training, etc. – that they got OUT.
There is nothing to WIN in Afghanistan except DEATH for our children, BANKRUPTCY for AMERICA and a total lack of PRESTIGE in International affairs. Only the Repubs want to WIN that…
Whatever President Obama decides to do, we will eventually LEAVE, and our accomplishments will be those mentioned above.
The Repubs are great at functioning like the Mafia: “If you don’t understand it and can’t control it, KILL IT!”
It really was a rather low class remark by McCain. And McCain should no better.
McCain made it clear during the last election that "playing politics" is more important than anything else – including national security.
Glad he's effectively minimized himself to just another GOP nobody.
Sorry General,you were not mentioned by Obama when he made
mention to those he would consult in a time of need. Don't you feel used in your position.
Old Grandpa McCain is still running his irrelevant mouth. John, no one is listening.... you lost!!!!!!!!!!!!
John, do not forget that you and your co-horts rushed us into Iraq. That was certainly a well planned thought through strategy. John, get out of the way and give these people time.
To High School Grammar Teacher,
You may well be correct, but why in the history of the Democratic Party, has this term "Democrat Party" just turned up in the last year, from Republicans, who use it as a pejorative? That is why we don't like it...over the years, the term has been Democratic Party, and rightly or wrongly, that is preferred. I never hear a Democrat say, "As a member of the Democrat Party," do you? It has to be finished, it makes the case correct.
You seem to have a lifelong habit of stabbing your friends in the back for your own personal advantage, Senator McCain. And you wonder why you lost the election.....
"GOP October 4th, 2009 12:23 pm ET
Bush never declared victory in Afghanistan. Get your facts right before you write this down.
In addition, the people on the right understand how to fight a war while you on the left only know how to protest wars!
Most people on the right have been in our nation’s military service while most on the left only call these brave people nasty names.
I will stand on the right because I know others here have my back and love our country. You liberals want to stab our country in the back and to live off the backs of hard working Americans."
Gosh, Bush did TOO declare victory in Afghanistan, on the date stated. Took me 5 seconds to find that out.
I am under the assumption that the right is conservative and religious, so how do you reconcile any war with your faith? And I would like to see facts from you that your assumption of more Repubs serving than Dems is even accurate. And if you are so good at fighting wars, why weren't Bush's wars won BEFORE Obama came into office? These have lasted longer than any other...if you want to take credit for that, you're on.
Right, WE want to see America fail. No, that would be Rush and you guys, who are so wrapped up in your flags and your indignant behavior that you refuse to accept a black President who believes he is the President of us all, not just the rich white guys. America is either going to change and be stronger, with all our help, or we are going to see the end of this republic, and maybe the world. It is not 1900 any more...times and people have changed.
And for the record, my husband has been employed by the same company for 33 years. I started work at 15 and have been employed in some capacity ever since. We have never been on welfare, and both children are college grads (one has her law degree) and are gainfully employed.
Somebody give him another plane! And Senator McCain, this time do it right! What a pathetic excuse for a US Senator.
John McCain can't lead or follow but he can get out of the way.
General Jones is correct in his statement and Senator McCain should apologize to him for that insulting statement he made about him in the Senate. McCain should know better than that, the General is honest, more than I can say for the Senator.
All I can say is look at his approval ratings and try to defend that. You can't blame everything on Republicans forever when you have control of all three branches of Govt.
Obama hasn't accomplished anything since he came into office, except showing us how to spend money that we don't have.
This Democrat is with McCain on this one.
Our kids are in danger over there and sadly many are dying. In order for them to do their job they need the appropriate tools, whether it be more troops, equipment, etc.
So give them the troops if they need them or bring them home NOW!
Stop putting our kids in danger while you sit comfortably in the White House and your kids are safe at home.
That woman he gave us! The woman who went astray from his campaign and on to SNL before the election. I am happy that she and her family are reaping the monetary benefits for her time and effort. Now she can purchase those clothes she and her family wore so well. Give credit where credit is due. So she didn't read much- she looked better than those who did. Poor Mc Cain Palin made him look older than him standing by Cindy.
Mc Cain has lost a creditibilty in politics. So we don't give him much credence. He knows it; that is why he is raising money for Romney.
Well, Dave, I like to see any POTUS discuss military strategy with anyone qualified to give advice. I assume you prefer your president to go into war without consultation, guess that means you're a big fan of W Bush!
It seems to me most of these comments are not based on anything other than for or against the President. So be it.. But the meanest comments are from the ones who don't like Obama. What is amazing to me not a one of you in the comments section or myself have sat in the White House, but you all seem to know the answers, I wish that the ones against Obama were so "vocal" when Bush started all this..But then again he was a republican with a war-monger for VP and that was acceptable..Start thinking with your heads, start to use some rationale instead of "I know everything,you don't", because that will not solve anything.. I dare say there are people in this country who do not want peace, do no want a living wage, don't want to live under constition,don't want to help your neighbors etc. who are you? If the president fails, much to some pleasure we all fail, that my friends is selfiness, but who cares as long as the President fails, and you can say with a big smile "I told you so". Selfish Selfish people.
I suppose John McCain would respond to this situation the same way he did the financial crisis while he was campaigning... give it no thought, just react. We have only one Commander-in-Chief at a time and thank God its President Obama and not John McCain. This President is not a reactionary. He takes the time to seek advice from every corner before making a decision. Very prudent. But of course he would have been criticized by the right if he had immediately agreed to send more troops.
Perhaps Sen. McCain would have the decency to refer to the Democratic party by its actual name, rather than the "Democrat party".
This is just a part of the ugly little game that he and his fellow haters have been using for at least the past 30 years.
McCain is thoughtless and disoriented. Please forgive him. For he knows not what is talking about. He thinks all are like his partymen, who put politics over everthing that matters.
OBAMA ----- vs. ----- BUSH.
To all those who Criticize Obama for the Chicago Copenhagen Effort:
Obama flew to Copenhagen to Canvass for Chicago.
Obama did Nothing Wrong in doing so.
Obama tried, just like all athletes participate in Olympics, not everyone wins.
Obama is Criticized by GOP for Canvassing for Chicago.
Obama tried sincerely, but did not lie to the Nation that Iraq has WMDs.
Obama did not cause 4300 US Troops to die in the Unjustified War.
Obama's effort to bring Olympics to Chicago is NOT A CRIME.
Bush Lied to the Nation causing 4300 US Troops to die IS A CRIME.
Bush should be in Jail. -------------------–
Yes, Obama adviser and retired general - "The lives of our young men and women are on the line."
So either get out of Afghanistan - or keep these brave young ones from being slaughtered - by sending more troops.
Wasn't the war in Afghanistan one that Obama actually considered important during the primaries/election? You bet it was.
So what's the deal now? Now that it's gone beyone teleprompter rhetoric, the "president" can't make a decision. What a surprise!
Some REBLICAN ideas are good, and need to be implemented now. Some Democratic ideas are good, and should be implemented when we have the money.
As for all you "just let the President try" and "it's all Bush's fault" you fail to see that the policies and blame are not producing anything but division. Palin has good ideas, McCain has a few too, Obama has only the polls and surrounds himself with the dregs of society...and some of you defend that with your blind hatred for the past President...a s you party continues the war. Guess you feel better about a war led by democrats with scoldiers being killed than a was led by rubublicans with soldiers being killed. Hypocrits.
People who will not fight will have nothing left to fight for.
McCain knows the drill. He was better suited for President than the character who call's himself that now. Jones is so far up Obama's a%& he will do anything to secure his position.
McCain
ADMITITI, YOU VOTED IN ANOTHER FAILURE; I voted for neither Obama or McCain,,,they are the same.
Back to your bamboo cage, McCain...you COWARD!
Sometimes is appears the only to terms republicans know when they are talking about Obama are Kool-Aid and wingnuts. It would be refreshing is they could learn a new term. Although I think that's a little too much to ask from people who don't have the intellectual ability of a monkey.
Now remember, the Senator knows base alienation when he see's it . You Betcha.
After and when I hear McCain run his trap, I wonder now just how much information he surrender when they had hin in the chicken bunker ore what ever he called it..
This guy is a two faced idiot and wants people to know how much he loves our great nation, give me a pile so I can get over this so called country man.
Lets just face the facts, he lost fair and square to a black man thats much smarter than him, go get back in your little hole and get over it.
Can you imagine the firestorm if a Democratic senator had made such a disparaging remark about a military man during the Bush administration? There would have been a resolution condemning him already.
