DeLay calls it quits

An injured DeLay had to call it quits on Dancing with the Stars Tuesday night.

(CNN) - Tom DeLay's dancing days have come to an end.

While miraculously escaping another round of elimination on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday night, the former Republican House majority leader voluntarily withdrew from the widely-watched competition on recommendations from his doctor and the show's producers.

The man once known as "The Hammer" on Capitol Hill said he was just too injured to continue, developing stress fractures in both his feet that made it very difficult to endure the rigors of the competition.

Delay originally remained defiant in the face of such pain, declaring last week, "nothing's going to stop me from doing this dance." But this week's round of competition proved too taxing on the 62 year-old, evidenced by a wince-inducing performance Monday of the samba to War's "Why can't we be friends."

In the end, the man who gave in to few fights in Washington had to call it quits on the ABC hit series.

"If you can't practice, you make a fool of yourself out here," DeLay said. "I don't want to do that to [my dancing partner] Cheryl."

Carried out on wheelbarrow on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night, DeLay appeared slightly embarrassed over the development: "A boy from Texas breaking his feet dancing...," he said to laughter.

Still though, DeLay remained confident his skills could have carried him forward.

"Can you shake your booty like I can?" Delay asked a skeptical Kimmel.

Asked if he his performance will inspire other indicted politicians to dance, Delay - who was charged with criminal violations of state campaign finance laws but never convicted - said "hey, it keeps you out of jail."

"But God for bid if you end up in jail, it's not a good thing for the inmates to see on reruns," Kimmel replied.

US Tax Dollars armed them and trained them. It only seems fitting that US tax dollars (and innocent, ignorant US children) should now be wasted to remove them.
    Sheesh, read a book.

Who cares? The man looked like he had a Depends undergarment on in his costume, plus he is a freakin' birther. If Cheryl Burke weren't his dance partner, he'd be asking her to show her proof of citizenship.

All I want to know is who voted for him to make it this far. He should have been out the first night!

Professional dancers are in extraordinary physical condition. Delay was fighting a losing battle when he laced up his dancing shoes. The Hammer gave it his all...but it wasn't good enough; and it looks like they're going to need a bigger wheelbarrow.

What scares me most about America right now is, with all the challenges and goals we have, with the things we have to face, and with all we have known being questioned, that this many Americans actually waste a couple of hours every week watching something called "Dancing with the Stars."

That probably says more about the state of our nation than any political debate or journalistic commentary.

Tom DeLay has proven he is no slouch on the dance floor as his sexy moves sent tingles up the legs of all of us who watched. DeLay as the comsummate handsome epitome of elegance probably would have won the competition, but was graceful enough to allow someone else the chance for glory. The way he grabbed Cheryl Burke you could tell he was always very professional and he didn't even enjoy putting his hands all over her. DeLay can dance better than any indicted politician in history.

Tom Delay was a bust on the dancing program just like he was when he was in congress.

Tell him to go home and act his age.

He looked and acted like a real jerk on the show.....the way he eyed Cheryl was disgusting.
Anyway, soon as he started in with his political remarks I tuned him (and the show) out.
    Thank goodness for fast-forward. :)

I have to admit, as much as I disagree with his politics and thought he was a mean, partisan you-know-what, I really give him credit for his appearance on Dancing With The Stars, and actually, I thought he did quite well. It was good to see his lighter side, and I hope it translates into his politics and life!

Party of quiters. This is one thing I taught he could do well, only to quit in the middle. I thought it was only Palin (who is the quitter). He knew it was coming to a close. Who knows what next he will try next , it looks like this job issues are also hitting ex-parliamenterians.
Tom you look good in a wheel barrow.

Let me see.....nope, no sympathy. DeLay is a thief and a liar..and soon to be, felon. He should be banished completely, from all public life. The stress fractures in his feet were probably started by his stomping on the first amendment, civil rights, and human decency.
