Key committee health care bill projected to cost $829 billion

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The amended version of the Senate Finance Committee's health care bill will cost $829 billion over the next ten years, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Max Baucus, D-Montana, had estimated that the revised bill would cost roughly $900 billion.

Before the bill was amended, the CBO projected that the Finance Committee bill would cost $774 billion; Baucus estimated that it would cost $856 billion.

The Finance Committee recently boosted the bill's overall price tag in part by voting to exempt senior citizens from higher taxes on medical expenses.

Don't be fooled, everyone knows how government works.......in the end this will cost way more than projected. NOTHING the government does is ever in budget. Their plan to cut 500 billion from Medicare is a joke and they know it. They need to come up with a realistic plan and a realistic way to pay for it and quit lying to us.

Anyone who thinks this will be a basic health care program is a fool. The uninsured and under insured want the same plan that COngress, the Prez. and Civil Service Workers have so it will definitely grow bigger. Also when the years money is gone will those who depend on the government money have to wait until the next year for more money to be available? You cannot give a number on illnesses and their cost to treat unless you are using "FUZZY MATH!" Also why have we not seen savings already in the fraud and abuse from medicare/medicaid? I do not trust the government after they put the military on an HMO program to cut cost. It is fine as long as you have a base to go to but finding a civilian doctor who will tak the lose by you being a patient is rediculous!

What CNN didn't say was that this bill will include Illegals, big surprise huh. Also much of the funds to pay for this bill will come from Medicare cuts. Everyone gets old sooner or later and will be on medicare, the seniors will bear the biggest burden. Medicare already says we can't get a lot of tests done unless we wait one year and one day. Too bad if something happens in the meantime, it will only get worse.

Not mentioned in the article: THIS BILL WILL REDUCE THE DEFICIT BY $90 Billion over the 10 year period!!!
The reason why this is not mentioned?
Because CNN doesn't care about quality journalism!
CNN is at war with Faux News, they are only concerned with getting and keeping your attention and IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS.
The public is much more interested in bad news so that is what CNN gives you. They are stirring the pot. They want to cause drama and get everybody concerned.

What is wrong with this picture? Who is going to pay for this? Most of all, how are the taxpayers suppose to pay for this when there are no jobs?

i love it that part of the bill is to paid for by cuts/savings in medicare.....yet elsewhere a government official will point out that medicare is broke and already underfunded for projected costs......only in obama's government can you transfer savings from an entity thats broke and "create" savings in another program.....kind of like "jobs saved or created"......its magical...fictitious.....and sure to add to the overwhelming debt that is drowning us all and will surely destroy the dollar and our economy.....and healthcare reform will be the least of our worries........be worried for your children and our country people......

  10. annie against biased news

If they knew there was 400bil waste in medicare to help pay for this government rationed health care why wasn't it addressed before now. This whole government rationed health care is just away for the far left loonies to take away more of our freedoms, I can't afford to pay more for health care and this at the minimum will double (at the very least) cost for people like me who make under $50,000 a yr. and trust me we can't afford it. Take away the 'unearned and undeserved' pay raises for the imbeciles in congress and give social security recipients a well deserved cost of living raise. NO insurance for illegals no matter what the imbeciles in this administration calls them and toughen tort reform!!! I don't much care for the repubbies but I can guarantee you if this crap passes there won't be a demmie elected in 2010!

    $829 Billion huh??

Now .. question .. WHEN has ANY government program stayed on budget??

    Answer .. NADA.

Medicare is the LAST enacted entitlement and it has cost NINE times what the initial estimates were.

Now .. using THAT as a historical marker and the $829 Billion dollar estimate ..... Let's see ... and the answer is .... (For grins & giggles, I'll do a span ... 5 times & 9 times the CBO estiamte.)

$4.15 to 7.46 TRILLION dollars folks!! (And don't forget the elderly .. Medicare is hit with a $500-600 billion dollar loss in funding because the funds will be diverted to this lastest boondoggle!)

Hmm .... rationed care for the elderly and tax payer funded care for illegal aliens!

Oh yeah!! There is just SOOO much to love about Democrat healthcare "reform"!

Thats fine but go all the way -public option! time to stop siding with the corporations and side with the American people!!. Create competition out there. Look at the auto industry, we have ford, chrysler, German autos, Japanese autos, Korean Autos and many more. The varities give customers option to go for what she/ he wants and can afford, what is the insurance companies afraid of? they know the days of greediness are over!!! I can't wait to see those fat bonuses whether they will still be available!!

Does anybody really believe this? Does anyone think that the entity that brought us the Postal Service and Amtrak can actually work within a budget? Are there people actually still around who are gullible enough to believe dollar figures when a lawmaker makes them up?

A US lawmaker is the only human in history who can include the words "only" and "billion" in the same sentence, with a straight face.

This is a bill we are not going to be privileged to read, nor will the politicians read. Vote for it and you will be out of work next term.
Grow up American people, our founding fathers never intended for the government to care for the people. THEY WANTED THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF THEIR LIVES! Read a history book and see where we are headed. History always repeats itself. Instead of changing this country move to France. The leader of France spoke more like a true American at the U.N. meeting than oboma did. God help us all.

Just today, the Luger-Kerry Bill was signed and Pakistan was given ...$7.5 BILLION over the next 5 years! Money we are using to buy the Pakistanis! Money wont stop terrorism. War wont. We NEED this money at home!

45,000 Americans DIE every year from lack of healthcare.

If 45,000 Americans were dying because of terrorist attacks, the Republicans would be having a FIT!

However, when 45,000 Americans DIE because of lack of healthcare, the Republicans continue to deny Americans healthcare!

What is not bewing mentioned here is the report of the 4 states that will not have to contribute to this. Those states over 12 % unemploymnet. Also in this is the fact that the states of Calif, Fla and R I will be charged with picking up the excess not paid by those four states(MI, and Nev to mention 2) What is wrong with this picture???
I am a Cal resident and just wonder where Pelosi, boser and the other idiot think this state is going to come up with themoney to do this??? All three need to be voted out. Also, funny isn't it, that the three states that have to pick up the tab for the four all have Rep governors!!!!!! What is wrong with that picture???? Wake up America, vote everybody out and reelect only new people and it doesn't matter what party they belong to. We need a limit of two terms for all these people. Help me out, what did kennedy do for all these years, and Byrd. He is ancient and just collects his salary. It is time to change the picture in Washington......
