Liberals see health care hero in freshman Florida lawmaker

Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, attracted attention for a tirade in the House against the GOP's health care plan.
Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, attracted attention for a tirade in the House against the GOP's health care plan.

(CNN) – Could a little-known freshman Democrat from a conservative-leaning Florida district be just what the doctor ordered for liberals wary of what they view as a timid president too ready to compromise on overhauling health care?

A little more than a week ago, few Americans had heard of Rep. Alan Grayson, who represents the Orlando area, and more than a handful of his congressional colleagues may not have been able to pick the 6-foot-4, 51-year-old out of a lineup.

But that was before the combative Bronx-born congressman and Harvard-educated lawyer took to the floor of the House of Representatives last week, shocking the few Republicans within earshot when he dramatically declared the GOP health care plan is "Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly."

Its great to see a Democrat with guts. For years, the Democrats have been afraid to embrace the liberal label while Republicans have turned that label into an epithet. Liberal really means tolerant, respectful of other's freedoms etc. Conservative on the other hand has meant standing against equal and constitutional rights, supporting a health care system that puts insurance companies in charge of your health care, supporting illegal losing wars, spending carelessly without taxation to pay for it, selling off American manufacturing, destroying the real wages of American workers, all sins we are paying for dearly in the current recession.

It is about time someone speaks out for the democratic party. The dems act if they are afraid to challenge the repubs. To the folks in Florida, keep this man!

Bravo Alan, he just told the truth.

Now for more of the truth...the Republicans are the death panels the quitter was referring to. They don't want you to have insurance.

    He spoke the truth.

    GOP is our Death Panel.

Hurry to send more troops to die, but drag their feet for decades to pass Health Care. Both ways, they are killing Americans.

    GOP is our Death Panel.

Liberals have to be desperate to rely on a lying politician. Grayson needs to publicly state exactly who/where a republican ever said that Americans should die quickly. Spinning won't do it; interpreting into liberal language won't change anything, either. There is no place, no time that republicans have proposed Americans to die quickly. You democrats will tell any lie to try to have your way. You will regret it.

Not a single republican exists in all of America that is even half as hateful, dishonest, and mean-spirited as Grayson-lib.

Joe Wilson was correct, Obama was lying, as the updated langauge about illegal immigrants in the house bill after he called Barak on it shows. Yet, Joe apologized, something that no Democrat in America is able to do sincerely. Grayson spewed a hate-filled lib lie, but you can't get mad at him on it, he knows what type of people vote Democrat, and the more sleezy, dishonest, and hateful you are, the more you connect with the average Democrat in America today.

Go Grayson! It's about time that someone in the Democratic Party had the stones to stand up and tell the truth about the Jack Boot Right. The Repubicans are a blight on the political landscape. They've been on the wrong side of everything since the McCarthy era and the only reason they've survived this long is because the weenie Democrats were afraid to stand up to them. Hopefully Mr. Grayson will be example for other Democrates on how to treat the Greedy Old Party

Considering people with cancer die quicker in countries with government healthcare than they do in the US, it sounds like Mr. Grayson is the one wanting people to "die quickly". Of course facts are never relevant to liberals.

It's about time we had a real Democrat stand up for Americans. Sometimes you just have to speak the truth about politics in DC. I've also read that Grayson is taking on a 25 yr old bill (which was tabled) to audit the Fed Reserve, getting hundreds of co-sponsors in the house, and tackling the latest bill to defund ACORN, by challenging the language in the GOP written bill which has brought the spotlight on many defense contractors who actually have been charged with crimes, that still get federal tax payer dollars. Like Congressman Weiner of NY, it's time to challenge some of those on the other side of the aisle with their bs politics. Weiner/Grayson 2016

Even if he loses in the upcoming election he will always be someone I will be proud of as a democrat. Too bad we don't have someone with his strength down in South Florida. We keep getting the same repulblicans serving for decades.

Just goes to show you what idiots the libs are, that they make this know-nothing yutz a hero. Just more proof that you don't have to have a brain to be a lib, in fact not having one is encouraged.

Democrats have set back long enough and took a beating without striking back. Congressman Grayson has the heart and compassion of a democrat and the steel spine of a republican. The American people want to see compassion and strength in its leaders. Health care is a sensitive issue that brings great emotion. Our leaders should show emotion, guts and civility. However, they must never look weak because the people will believe the one who demonstrates strength no matter if they're wrong or right. I believe the boost in POTUS polling the last few days is in direct relation to the strength and compassion Congressman Grayson showed on the issue of heath care.

Not only do I admire Mr. Grayson for having the guts to say what he did but I completely agree with him....Republican's DO NOT care about American's...they care about "THEIR" American's. To them the only American's that count are the one's who have money, everyone else are worker bee's who are here to serve them. The Republican's answer to healthcare is simple "why change things, our people are making money?" They are happy with the insurance & drug companies making record profits from the sick. They are happy when the average Joe has to give up his house, car & all property to pay for his wife's chemo treatments, because "their" American's are just fine...

  23. Regressive Party Refugee (former republican)

Go Grayson! Modern conservatives HATE it when they are faced with their own duplicity and the flimsy tissue of lies they use as the basis for their rhetoric.

Since they don't have any ideas, only attacks on the ideas of others (and these people personally), one is left to analyze the conservatives rhetoric. So, looking at that carefully, you quickly see their a link to fascination with Palin: their idea of health care is the old Eskimo plan – put the oldsters on an ice flow and push them off.

Both Grayson and "You Lie" Wilson crossed the line. The difference is the Demo-hypocrits who control Congress passed a resolution condemning Wilson within 2 days, but failed to even publically criticize Grayson. Meanwhile prominent Republicans like McCain were quick to publically criticize Wilson immediately after the fact. Pelosi won't ever say anything bad about an admitted tax cheat, Charlie Rangel.

    Finally...!
A Democrat whose willing to stop bending over backwards to appease an opposition that could care less about regaining any kind of bipartisan civility on issues affecting the American people.

The Democrats never learn from their mistakes,,,you are the majority now. Use your power (because it is fleeting) to enact the programs that the majority of the people VOTED FOR! Stop extending olive branches to those who bite your hands in the process!
