White House: Fox is 'opinion journalism masquerading as news'

(CNN) - The Obama White House is ramping up its offensive against Fox News.

This summer, President Obama signaled his unhappiness with the network. "We've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration."

Over the past month, that discontent has translated into an all-out war against Fox. Last month, Obama notably skipped a sitdown with Fox as he plugged his health care bill in one-on-one interviews on every other major news network. Earlier this month, the White House published a rare blog post directly attacking a news organization, slamming Fox for its "disregard for the facts" and pointing readers to an independent fact-checking organization that had debunked "more Fox lies."

Now, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn is questioning whether Fox is in the news business at all. "It's opinion journalism masquerading as news," she told Time of the news network, in an interview released Thursday. Dunn also made it clear this won't be the last White House blast aimed at the network: "They are boosting their audience. But that doesn't mean we are going to sit back."

Where would we get our news, Obama and his administration knew nothing about ACORN (what a joke), the bill on health reform is such a big secret, the people in congress have not read it, Obama and the administrtation is tight lip about it and don't want to make it public for the American people to read it. I suppose I am unpatriotic not to trust Congress and the President to do what is right for the American people. I am not in the minority.

So now he is picking and choosing the news organizations that drink the Kool Aid......it is getting scary. I am not even a FOX fan but I have noticed that CNN is about to lose me. I do not agree with everything that President Obama says and yet according to CNN....I am a racist. I have never agreed with EVERYTHING our past presidents have said or done but now apparently it is because of the color of his skin. It is insulting. Frankly, I am sick of it all.

It seems to be that it would be something that a major news source would fact check and if not, the other news groups would have a field day attacking FOXs credibility.

  4. Speaking for Liberals

Just because a media outlet paints you or your party in what you believe is a negative light does not make that media outlet "liberal media".
Liberals do not have ANY news organizations in our pocket or working for us. Liberals get their news from multiple sources, in order to get an objective view of what's going on. Anyone who chooses to get their news from a single source is a sucker.
There is no liberal media conspiracy, we are just no that organized or determined.
Some Liberals also watch Fox news, albeit with clinched fist and contorted facial expressions. We like to know what the other side is thinking.
Liberals are not afraid of Sara Palin. We survived 8 years of Bush, it's going to take more than Sara Palin to scare us.
And finally, Fox news is anything but fair and balanced

So many re-pubic-can'ts commenting on here defending the hatred that FOX brings. Why are they not on the FOX website? Why are your feelings so hurt? Oh WAIT, it's the whole truth thing. You guys are not used to hearing it and it bothers you when others speak it. I get it now.

FOX is the worst, most-corrupt, lying and distorted broadcast company ever since the propaganda of Hitler in WW II.

FOX is an acronym for Flubbering Old Xenophobes because that's who comprise their audience. If it can be distorted, lied about or smeared, count on FOX! The conservidiot, sniveling moron class is too stupid to know they are being treated like mushroom spoon-fed crapola by the uber-rich Rupert Murdoch who owns FOX. He knows exactly who's vulnerable to their distortions and ideological propaganda and it's the angry, white mysogynistic male, or simple-minded, bovine-type women who like to be dominated.

Yeah, we don't need to be held accountable! Why that would uncover the massive corruption of the Democrat Party! That just wouldn't do!

  9. Liberals are Hypocrites

Good! That'll drive up the ratings of Fox even more. Fox - an EXCELLENT, courageous news channel - something Obama simply can't understand.

This latest assault on free speech is by someone who's clearly preparing himself to be dictator.

The main stream media has been concubine to the president all along, no matter who the president is. Liberal media? What liberal media? The same liberal media, including CNN and MSNBC who scared us into a war with Iraq? The same liberal media that kept turning a blind eye to scandal after scandal fro Bush and now Obama? Even Foxnews is easy on Obama. Sure they do opinion pieces against him, but thanks to their corporate owner they noticeably toned it down very quickly. If anything, Foxnews is being very light on Obama, compared to what they did before his elections! If you want factual information on your government, watch local news. Amazingly, their fact-checking reliability is no worse than national media.

Wow! What a crybaby. The one and only station that hasn't been fawning over him since he began running for the presidency (about 10 minutes after being elected senator), and he whines about it. Just today I heard how the 521,000 jobs lost in the last reporting period was "better than expected". Not to mention the Washington Post (I think) article on people who are enjoying being out of a job. They called it "funemployment". Take your mind off this persecution Mr. President. Take another tour of the butt-kissing networks. Or better yet, tour the world and apologize for what a terrible country you think the USA is.

Sorry, but I think the WH meant to say MSNBC or CNN. THOSE networks (that's right CNN) are too comfy and cosy with the WH. I used to watch CNN, but now I watch Fox News, because I want all the news information, not just the stories that make Obama look good or stories that have been doctored. Yes, I have noticed CNN and MSNBC doctor vidoes to cast Obama in a good light. Pretty sad.

Everyone who knows that, doesn't watch them. Those that don't realize that will claim this is an attempt to control the media. In the end, this is a waste of time. Nothing is going to change here. Rupert Murdoch is a die hard Conservative who obviously hires reportres with over-the-top bias.

Why shouldn't the White House complain? The President has important work to do and all Fox does is organize "teabaggers" and convince the weak-minded of death panels. People buy this stuff and it prevents anything from getting done.

It's just a shame that we are so partisan that anything resembling the truth is not necessary. All we need (on both sides) are whiny talking points.

The White House and Our President also have freedom of speech, just as Fox NONNews does. Fox NONNEWS is the dumbing down of some in our country. Of course some of their followers can't think for themselves and would do better spending their time getting a GED.

    ?wow! IT IS ABOUT TIME!

I wonder if Beck, Hanity , O' Reilly and while we are on it, Lou dobbs have completed high school...It takes higher education to at least be unbiased. The White House should continually challenge these nuts with facts; just facts mind you....facts are unknown to folks at FOX news!

  18. Limbaugh is a liberal

Foxnews' problem is not that they are against Obama. Their problem is that they are making up stuff without any factual basis. They claim that Obama would take away gun rights. Fact: Obama hasn't changed the law in any way, and gun sales have been higher than during any year of the Bush administration. Foxnews claims Obama would surrender to our enemies. Fact: Obama has not changed a single part of Bush's foreign policy. The Iraqi and Afghani troop level changes have been initiated by Bush last year, not by Obama. Obama has not changed our aggressive stance against Iran or North Korea. Obama adapted the Road Plan to Middle East Peace between Israel and Palestine verbatim from Bush, including Bush's request from Israel to dismantle illegal settlements. Foxnews is being hypocritical for criticizing Obama for policies that were actuall Bush Jr.'s!

Hahah, the President doesn't like a news organization that actually covers all stories. Of course FOX has conservative commentators, but they also regularly have liberal and other viewpoint commentators and guests. It is very easy for people to blast FOX because they are reporting what they don't want to hear. FOX tells it like it is and the President doesn't like that. He has the rest of the media in his pocket. Just look at his campaign and the extreme lack of vetting the media did on him. Brave to FOX!

All the news networks are really useless and biased. Sure, MSNBC and Fox News are the worst, but CNN is not too far behind. Anyone who only gets their news from TV is really ignorant of what is going on.

Give it a rest. Blaming FOX news for your stupidity is so Presidential. Good God, you have CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, TBS all praising how great you are, yet your approval numbers are below 50%. Look in the mirror, Mr. President. You have no one else to blame but yourself.

Cluster Fox is not a news station. They are on the same level as Jerry Springer!!! They are simply an extension of the Republican Party that gets daily talking points. No other stations are controlled in that way. For a station that talks about government control, Fox news staff could even go to the bathroom unless in was approved in their daily "what to say today memo". I'm glad the other stations are calling them to task. Thank God for Keith Olberman! He tells it like it is and exposed the lies and hypocrisy of the talking heads.

How can you Fox news viewers call this an assault on free speech?

Free speech goes both ways, the White House has every right to free speech as well. If the white house wants to call out reporters for perpetrating lies, they have every right to do so, guaranteed by the first amendment, just as fox has every right to pretend to be a news network.
