Wilson becomes Republican rock star

Rep. Joe Wilson has become in demand on the GOP fundraising circuit since shouting at President Obama.
Rep. Joe Wilson has become in demand on the GOP fundraising circuit since shouting at President Obama.

(CNN) – In the days after Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress last month, the South Carolina congressman reached out to several of his longtime confidantes.

A graduate of Washington and Lee University, a school with a strict honor code, and a veteran of the Army Reserves, Wilson was worried he had disappointed those close to him by showing a lack of civility.

"Joe has always operated as a gentleman, and I think for anyone to question if he was continuing to do that is something that concerned him," his friend Ed McMullen said.

But the people close to Wilson assured him that beyond apologizing for the outburst, he did not need to be ashamed for questioning the president's sincerity in the health care debate. Wilson made the outburst after Obama denied his health care plan would cover illegal immigrants, then apologized to the White House later that night.

If the Republicans have made this guy a "rock star," I think that says everything you need to know. He is disrespectful and rude, not to mention wrong! Wait....disrespectful, rude, wrong....no wonder the Repubs love him so much!

A perfect example of the low calaber of character and self restraint that is exhibited or expected within the ranks of the republican party. While one may think anything one wants, one should have enough self restraint to refrain from voicing those thoughts in highly inappropriate venues.

This is great. The GOP can choose as many self destructers as they want. Worked wonders for McCain!!!

I guess this sums up the "new" republicans. They care nothing of the truth, and insulting Democrats and liberals is more important then being honest.

His 15 minutes in the limelight will end next election cycle. Even the people of SC aren't stupid enough to keep this racist dirtbag around. The RepubliKKKlan party must be so proud to have sub-humans like DeMint, Graham, Sanford, and Wilson pushing their extremist agenda in SC.

This guy is famous for one reason: being a total jerk during a presidential address to Congress. If the Republican Party doesn't have better hero material than this, it's in real trouble.

Wilson is like the boy in the story who finally said that the emperor has no clothes.

Perhaps CNN will get their courage back to start reporting the facts (it's ok, CNN, even SNL sees the truth now).

Wilson and others just go to show us what the GOP is really like, and it is most distrubing. This disrespectful fool is no gentleman as evidenced by his outburst and some of his other statements, and he should be looked upon with distain from any of those in his party who have any civility and sanity left. The thing that bothers me more than anything going on now a days, is the lack of discipline and respect shown by our congress people, particularly on the right. They are daily, for well over a year, saying the most asinine things. They are certainly not good examples for the young people, or us older ones in this country, that need desparately to see some positive, reasonable congressional reps on cable news.

Why was it OK to scrutinize, belittle, and boo the former President by members of Congress? Now, congressmen or citizens are demonized and an American for debating and criticizing the President. What goes around comes around. Obama has never had a record to defend, and now he must defend his choices or lack there of and his handlers must defend him.

Proves their disrespect for America and their disdain for facts and social progress.

Joe Wilson is an ignorant liar who has no business making decisions for the public.

This rude and uninformed man WOULD be a hero to the GOP. Look at them - a bunch of old white men with no new ideas who desperately want to keep the status quo (lots of $$ for the rich and large corporations and nothing for the average working person). The GOP could care less what is good for America or what we need to do to remain competitive in the future, all the GOP cares about is gettting themselves back into power. Look at Cantor telling a town hall meeting that people who lost their jobs and therefore could no longer afford their health insurance should just go "see if some charities could help them" if they got cancer. Look at the GOP cheering and celebrating when America did not get chosen for the Olympics.
