(CNN) - A Democratic National Committee spokesman said Friday the GOP has "thrown in its lot with the terrorists" in criticizing the president's Nobel Peace Prize award.

“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in a statement.

"Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize – an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride – unless of course you are the Republican Party," the statement also said. "The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it's an embarrassing label to claim.”

The Nobel Peace Prize has lost its value. You get a $1.4M prize for accomplishing nothing now? Crazy world we live in.

This is a good response. It has gotten ridiculous. Just for fun I looked at the comments on Fox News–unbelievable. There were the expected stupid ones, like "so that's what he was doing in Norway last week–not campaigning for the Olympics, but campaigning for the Nobel Prize" (and yes, anyone with a sixth-grade grasp of geography knows Copenhagen is not in Norway). But there were so many more that simply reveal this blind hatred for what it is. So sad that our country has come to this point. It really makes me want to move to Canada.

Absolutely true. GOPs put party first, country second.

During the horrible 8 years of the Bush regime Dems protested quietly and respectfully and most often relegated to"free speech zones" away from TV cameras and most importantly Bush himself so he wouldn't witness the dissent. The Repubs bring guns to protests, disrupt town meetings by yelling their slurs, and broadcasting hate speech by the right wing whackos such as Limbaugh, Oreilly, Hannity Beck, Coulter, and Sarah the quitter. Under the Democratic leadership the whole country is once again a free speech zone. I can imagine the rage of the right wing whackos if they were treated as the Dems were by the Bush regime

World Peace, like the US economy, was like the Titanic headed toward an iceberg under the previous administration. Obama has turned both in a new direction.

All they can focus on is the things so far that they feel Obama has not done. They have short memories and forget how we got to this point. They have shamed this President from day one. They have been very sore losers, almost infantile in their behavior.

    The Right cheered when Obama/US lost the 2016 Olympics . . .

The Right booed when Obama/US won the Nobel Peace Prize.

    How un-American can you get?

This reminds me of the 60s' slogan: "America . . . Love it or Leave it!"

One question: What if GW won the nobel peace prize? Just ask yourself that before you start slinging mud dems. What a joke.
I don't care that he won it. I think we'd all agree that he didn't necessarily accomplish anything per say, but won it based on 'positive intentions', which is mystery to me. But good for him.

As a patriotic American I am so proud that my country is represented to the world by President Obama!

Man is this guy mixed up. Remember, Yasser Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize. He was a major terrorism guy. So, it follows that Obama should get it because he is friendly with those types. That has nothing to do with Republicans so far as I can tell.

Can the DNC name one thing that warrants President Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize? Weren't they the biggest complainers if their patriotism was questioned for disagreeing with President Bush. If it was wrong then, it's wrong now.

Even less claim to be liberals. We are conservatives which do not support nobamas giving away our freedom and wealth.

The republican party should keep very quiet on this one. The Nobel Committee awarded this prize to President Obama BECAUSE he kicked the republicans out! The World couldn't be happier and this is how they are showing it. American is, once again, part of the World Community.

This prize is not just for President Obama but for all of the Americans who worked for him and who voted him into office.

The GOP is not a patriotic organization. They pray for another terrorist attack so that they can hope to gain political advantage.

The DNC should be ashamed of themselves. They are disgusting pigs. This is America. Everyone is allowed to voice their own opinion. I didn't realize the Nobel Peace Prize could be awarded to a racist with terrorist connections (Bill Ayers). The DNC is way out of touch. I lost all respect for this reward and for the Democrat party.

Just goes to show everyone that the Republicans are the party of "no" and anything Obama achieves is anathema to them.
What do they want? More actions like our war at all costs president Bush?

What else do expect of these children. If it had been a Republican, they would be having fireworks but it's Obama and the Republicans main ambition is to bring him down, even if it means hurting our country. yes, they are no better than the terrorists who condem the Presidents win of this prize. I say Congratulations Mr. President and congratulations United States of American because he represents all of us.

Good for the Democrats for telling the truth about the Republicans who, just like our terrorist enemies are so filled with rage that they want America to fail, so as to score cheap political points. The GOP is sick!

Funny thing what politics produces... I was very disappointed when Chicago lost its bid for the Olympics; I was pleased however the humility of the President to make the trip to personally pitch the City of Chicago and the United States for that matter to the world; I was impress with his speech in Cairo and his efforts to unite the world against nuclear weapons and his decision to get Hillary Clinto as Madam Secretary of State. This honor is a big deal, one that is met by skeptisim and it is been mock by others; the fact is that this President has been a huge influenze in this world is a very short amount of time, perhaps that is what the committe saw, perhaps... I just think it is unfortunate when the opposition party in a formal letter decides that it is in their best interest to voice their disaproval of an award that should cause pride amongs all Americans.

Get over yourself. No one cheered to lose the Olympics. They were cheering that now POTUS can actually focus on what he was voted into office to do....so far he has said much and done nothing. BTW he is a LIAR about illegal immigrants getting health care. ask any Consitutional law specialist. Similar restrictions were abolished by the courts in CA under the "equal protection clause". If he is any kind of attorney he knows this.

Looks like GOP is changing from the minority white party status to the laughable fringe party status. Its a shame that they can't just congratulate the president and move on. President Obama didn't ask for this Prize.
