President Obama surprised, humbled by Nobel Peace Prize.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Friday that he was humbled and honored by the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award him the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

"I am both surprised and deeply humbled," Obama said at the White House.

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments. But rather as an affirmation of American leadership. ... I will accept this award as a call to action."

Obama said he did not feel he deserves "to be in the company" of past winners.

The committee said it decided to honor Obama for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

The Prize is absolutely justified considering how much effort Pres. Obama has put into Healing "post Bush Wounds" with the Muslim Community and the rest of the World.
A World without Nuclear Weapons, and the jump started Diplomacy that has been activated will certainly make our World a better place to live.
America`s standing on the international Platform is far better than 2007, I can`t understand the RNC Critic about the Prize. It´s not the DNC who made the Choice so lets be careful here where we point the Fingers.

We are proud to have a president revered by the world instead of having backlashes and protests everywhere the American president goes like we have seen with president Bush. What an honor for America. Congratulations Mr President. We are proud of you. Now lets see whether the republcans reactions are the same as Al Qaeda's and and the Talibans'.

Deserved. This decent man tries very, very hard to achieve peace on many levels in a complex world, and will continue to do so.

It's one thing for President Obama to say he does not deserve the award. That's called humility.

It's another thing for Republicans to say he doesn't deserve it. That's called playing politics.

Let's see... Hmmmmm... humility versus politics. THAT'Snot hard to figure THAT ONE one out...

He has acknowledged everything the Republicans could possibly say about this – and that takes some balls in my opinion.
    I like this man.
Now leave him alone and let him do his job you bunch of "Republican whiners who are to be more interested in yourselves than this country" critics. You should be embarrassed by your comments and actions, or "lack of". All you do is complain, and treat the President with disrespect.
You had your 8 years – and look where it got us.
Yet you try to blame him for what he inherited!
    Sad....
We are not stupid or blind.

He only changed world opinion on the US by 180 degrees after
    the Bush/Cheney disaster years.
Peace, justice and the dignity of all people. All concepts that the
lunatic ultra right wing of the GOP does not even know about.
Obama deserves 5 of those prizes.

Obama deserves the prize for trying to work with the dangerous terrorist elements who are out to destroy the US on behalf of their own ideology… the Republican Party.

All citizens of the USA should take pride in this award. However, I believe that it is based more on expectation than accomplishment. It seems to be more a rebuke of the " War before Diplomacy" Bush administration, and a hopeful nod to an era of diplomacy.

Obama surprised, humbled by Nobel Peace Prize

Well, he does have a lot to be humble about...

This whole thing is absurd, kinda like giving my seventh-grade kids a college diploma now because they might, someday, earn one.

  22. Congrats President Obama!

Thank you for being a beacon of positive light to the world. I am extremely proud of him. His term has just began, but w/his guidance – the USA can bounce back to achieve great things. For the moment, can we just put aside our differences and just be HAPPY for once?

I think it's great! He deserves it because he has changed the way the world views us as a country. We are no longer the bad guys who want to start wars with everyone we disagree with.

Did he win this for the Stimulus Package? Nominations were due two weeks into his administration. Oh maybe it was for closing Gitmo...now that went well.
