(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is slamming the Nobel Committee's decision to award Presdient Obama the Nobel Peace Prize:

“The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”

What a hater! What has Michael Steele ever done to better the world? The Republicans are quick to shut down anything that involves the president. They seems to forget that he represents all Americans. Shame on them!

Nonnie   October 9th, 2009 11:53 am ET

Sour grapes?

Deb (long island)   October 9th, 2009 11:43 am ET

There goes the token African-American for the Republican party. Mr. Steele I feel is so envious of our President. Although our President has not been in office a year yet, the world recognizes all of the accomplishments he will make. Our President is humbled by this win and we as Americans should be proud and supportive of our President.

Doug   October 9th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Michael Steele is a Republican puppet. Anything and everything to Republican is NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, and NOOOOOOOO.

Tired of the bickering   October 9th, 2009 11:26 am ET

For crying out loud, can't anyone just "congratulations" anymore without turning it in to a battle. This should be a proud moment for the United States as well, not criticism from political party fights.

cbrucecrawley   October 9th, 2009 11:03 am ET

I would truly love it if our nation could come together and celebrate the fact that OUR President is being recognized on an international level for trying to solve problems with his words instead of his fists.

We all need to keep in mind that his nomination came before he took office, and that should then direct our attention to his global footprint up to that point. This was a peace prize, not a local policy prize... It was not too long ago that I remember his election, with commentary about how it was like the world came together and that people of all races rejoiced as one for the first time in so long. There were headlines in every nation celebrating such an achievement for the United States...

Why does it feel like the pendulum has swung the other way and we have all forgotten why we elected him in the first place? We should all be very proud of our country for electing someone who has been able to have a global impact in such a short time instead of criticizing him and even belittling the value of this prestigious award.

rk   October 9th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Very simply, SHAME ON YOU, Michael Steele.

PNWjim   October 9th, 2009 11:01 am ET

here is truth: if you were not black you would not be head of the repubs and if palin was not good looking she would not have been the vp pick .repubs are about preception not reallity and there are much smarter and more capable people than you two.

Cindy   October 9th, 2009 10:58 am ET

What did you expect from this do nothing bunch? They are full of nothing but negativity and should be ignored. It is their job to criticize everything PRESIDENT OBAMA does or when he is recognize for doing good. This President is all about peace and helping the middle class and the poor. Unlike those repiblicants who is all about the rich getting richer. Anyway, just what did these republicants accomplished while in office? Nothng positive that's what!!!
michael steele is a idiot, even his own party knows that!
Prsident Obama will do good things for this country with or without those whining republicants and jump ship democrats.

EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT republicants!!!!

j   October 9th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Accomplish !!!!!! A willingness to recognize and listen to others, that`s what. Sometimes that goes a long way to improve relations.----– Republicans just don`t get it.

Jen   October 9th, 2009 10:57 am ET

How Cruel?? The reason Obama hasnt gotten anything done is because Republicans are fighting him 100% of the way! Kinda hard when you got haters fighting against you! Stupid Republicans. THey love to mince and change words around to benefit themselves. Only those who have a Brain can see that.

Steve/Boston   October 9th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Mr. Steele, as a representative of the insular, out of touch, negative, mean spirited, and loony politics of the hard right, has once again put his foot into his mouth.

What a twisted political message of cynicism. Shame on you Mr. Steele. I have to wonder about your own patriotism and love of country, especially when absolutely ZERO ideas have come forward to deal with the issues we face as a nation.

What a bizarre thing it is to be attacking a man for receiving an honor he didn't seek, criticizing his leadership, and actively seeking his "Waterloo" at the expense of the American people, who deserve way more than you or your party can give.

Anthony   October 9th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Yes perhaps if he could add fuel to disagreements, like iran and north korea, and russia. Perhaps had he refused to speak with anyone who disagreed with him. Perhaps he could have backed out of international treaties and violate international law and conventions like the previous administration. The maybe he would get a nod from republicans. Gee Ed im shocked you didnt suggest these aproaches instead. Just give him a moment and a chance, and let it go for a day.

Mike from Pelosiland   October 9th, 2009 10:55 am ET

If Obama had actually accomplished something it would be one thing but since he has not this represents nothing more than a sad degradation of what was once a very meaningful and prestigious award.

The Nobel Peace Prize is now irrelevant.

deborah/kansas city   October 9th, 2009 10:55 am ET

Its a shame that you are an embarrassment to American Mr Steele and have made it obvious that you do not care anything about America or Americans. Pary first, oligarchy controlled by military, that is all you stand for.

Shelley   October 9th, 2009 10:54 am ET

As Americans, we might show a little pride at having our President recognized by the world as an achiever of peace. How can Mr. Steele make such disparaging remarks about such a prestigious honor? It is getting weirder and weirder. The party of 'no' is becoming a caricature of itself. As I heard said on one of the talk shows, the conservative right hates Obama more than it loves America.

haren   October 9th, 2009 10:53 am ET

What else RNC can do?
They don't have any choice.

John   October 9th, 2009 10:52 am ET

I am getting really sick of all this partisan bickering. Can't you just say congrats and move on to actually doing something other than complaining?

RICO   October 9th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Question to Mr Steele, what has the Republican party done lately, beside oppose everything, and spread lies and fear to Americans? Its so much easier to say NO and be negative, than to acutally try to accomplish something. This should be an honor that every American should be proud of, but yet again we show our ignorance to the World, and start calling the Noble prize worthless, and say that our own President does not deserve it. Great time to be an American.

Jayden,FL   October 9th, 2009 10:51 am ET

The GOP is a disgrace to this country. it has become a far right terrorist group!

8 years 4 sure   October 9th, 2009 10:51 am ET

CRY BABIES!!! You are wrong again...This man is working and the RNC is crying, kicking and screaming like a baby in a wet diaper (with a rash!!!)
It is evident that your worn-out negative, scare tactics are not working for you, now roll up your sleeves and help solve problems and quit being one all of the time!!!!!!!!!!!

eds   October 9th, 2009 10:50 am ET

exactly why Mr. Steele and his party didn't win... no diplomacy, no dignity, no desire to have meaningful conversations and find a middle ground.
Congratualations President Obama. I do believe you make a difference in the World, your ability to do so in your own Country is inhibited by the neadrathal republican's tiny little minds!

Thomas   October 9th, 2009 10:50 am ET

It pains me, but in this isolated instance, I have to agree with the RNC.

President Obama's award is premature. It would have been much better if the nomination were submitted in 2-3 years. By then President Obama will have actually accomplished something (or not).

This premature award based on what President Obama says he wants to do in the futuire, cheapens the Nobel award.

John Jenkens   October 9th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Can the GOP be happy for America for once, the GOP cheered when USA lost the Olympics, now here we go again.
GOP is against everything Obama, sad day in the GOP camp, sore loosers

Independent   October 9th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Michael Steal, Rush, Hannity, Beck and Faux News are just jealous. When are they going to learn that the more evil they directs towards the President it is turn around to his good. Congratulations Mr President and may God continue to bless you.

Dave in Albuquerque   October 9th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Steele's statement is one more reminder of why he's the nobody he is.

Pete   October 9th, 2009 10:48 am ET

Wow. Obama wins a Nobel Prize and the Republicans issue a statement denigrating his achievement. They cheer when the Olympics go to Brazil. He gives a speech to kids urging them to study hard, and they complain that it's indoctrination. That's not politics, it's pathology.

Their guy ran the country into the ground for eight years, and now you have someone who is trying to fix the mess he inherited. Getting the Nobel Peace Prize is a sign that American leadership has reestablished itself, yet these phony patriots can't find anything better to do than carp and whine.

You may disagree with Obama's policies - nothing wrong with that - but he hasn't lied us into war, trashed the Constitution, used the Justice Department for partisan advantage, alienated our friends and helped our enemies, or done nothing when he was warned that Al Qaeda was prepared to strike. The Nobel Prize is one sign that this sorry chapter in American history is over. The GOP is so wrapped up in its own bile that it can't recognize or acknowledge this.

Sherry Oliphant   October 9th, 2009 10:47 am ET

The fact that the RNC would make such a graceless, infantile comment is only overshadowed by the fact that they don't even realize what it characterizes about them.

I can see Canada from my house!   October 9th, 2009 10:47 am ET

The RNC should be asking " What has Michael Steele accomplished?" Its unfortunate that a man who has led a charge to deny the President and this country any real progess towards making healthcare affordable is being allowed to once again be the mouthpiece for a corrupt oligarchy who only seek to enrich themselves. One thing is certain: The GOP won't win any rewards from the American people if they continue to try to attack and destroy this president without giving any serious proposals as an alternative.

GOP= intellectually lazy, greedy, and afraid of the future.

Molly Weasley   October 9th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Obviously, the crybabies in the Republican Party never learned manners from their parents. Even if they disagree with the decision, YOU DON'T SLAM A SITTING PRESIDENT WHEN HE GETS AN INTERNATIONAL HONOR. As my mother (and no doubt their mothers) said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Jeez. They don't deserve anyone's support. No wonder the country holds the Republican Party as a whole in such poor regard.

Gary   October 9th, 2009 10:46 am ET

And you Michael won't be recieving any awards for having a brain.

Jon   October 9th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I would love to see someone comment on here something that he has actually accomplished to be given this award. I mean a concrete accomplishment and not just "has a vision of" or "called for" or "begun the process of."

Donna   October 9th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Actually, the real question is whether or not anyone is surpised that the RNC would denounce any decision that recognized Barack Obama for trying to accomplish anything good.

WhoCares?   October 9th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Are these people even Americans anymore? After this and the Olympic response...I can't see how you can say they are.

So they stand step-in-step with Hamas and Al-Quedi in their dismay that an American President won the Nobel Peace Prize instead of taking pride in our country?

What people are these clowns even rooting for?

dk   October 9th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Do not be disrespectful to our president for his receipt of this international honor. Partisan politics is poisoning all attempts to do well.

John, Brooklyn, New York   October 9th, 2009 10:43 am ET

The RNC cheapens America when it cheapens the awards we receive simply because the awards go to a Democrat. Are the so partisan these days that they can't celebrate the achievements of America?

Mike   October 9th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Amazing! OUR president wins the Nobel Prize and the RNC slams it instead of celebrating it. Amazing and pathetic all rolled into one!

jeremy.....Dallas...Texas   October 9th, 2009 10:43 am ET

The biggest questions we Americans ask what has Mr Steele and his party done to the world in decades? Iraq war or near depression. Torture or abuse of our own constitution? Hey steele keep quiet as this President clears your mess as Clinton did.

bluesky   October 9th, 2009 10:43 am ET

The real question is, how can the RNC foment such petty divisiveness in America when our commander-in-chief has received such a prestigious award? Had a Republican president won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Democratic Party would have been the first to congratulate him.

babe40   October 9th, 2009 10:42 am ET

It your don't like it too bad

Lydia   October 9th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Typical hateful response from the RNC!!! If you never have anything nice to say keep it to yourself. I cannot believe you would place this in the news. The RNC makes me ashamed to be a part of the USA. You are so embarrasing! RNC=hate, bigotry, lies and a shame your a part of America. Instead of saying America is asking you need to say "YOU" are questioning Obama. Why don't you tell us what the last president did for America!!! Tell us why Obama has to clean the mess he created.

RDS   October 9th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Are we really surprised that they have something negative to say. Because winning a Nobel Prize is so dishonarable..smh. Bottom feeders what else can be expected! After 8 years of accomplishing NOTHING the Republicans find a way of trashing everything Obama does, did, or will do.

Jenny from Outside America   October 9th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Congratulations to US Presiden Obama on this award. Good will win over evil. The GOP of couse would not enjoy this. They just got some egg on their faces after rejoicing about the Olympic issue. It was sad to see actual americans rejoicing over that but I guess they hate him so much that the hatred obscured their judgement. This shows that they are people rooting for your President to be successful although he is not perfect, he has a good heart most people want good things to happen for all. So fight on Pres. Obama.

A Real American   October 9th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Nice show of patriotism Mr Steele.
Are you still cheering about American not getting the 2016 Olympics?

John   October 9th, 2009 10:41 am ET

The only thing that Obama did was to unseat a fascist regime. So I guess that is peaceful. I agree he hasn't really earned but compared to the international disaster of the past 8 years I guess it is noteworthy.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2009 10:41 am ET

How about this – for just one moment let us be proud of the fact that the President of The United States has won The Nobel Peace Prize. Novel idea don't u think. I mean really – let's all take a breath.

We know that we must at all times take every opportunity to negate any thing that could possibly be considered positive about our president. But in this, please let's all just take a breath. We must look like fools to the rest of the world.

no name calling   October 9th, 2009 10:41 am ET

No matter what the man does, the RNC, and the rest of the Republican leaders (Beck, Rush, Hannity) would find fault with it.

Mr Steele, What have YOU done to promote peace in your own country let alone the world?

I'll wait for your answer.

Leon   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Nice - MLK said "I have a dream" - and if it wasnt for that dream, Michael Steele would be getting sprayed down by water hoses. Obama didnt choose to be given the award, he's just trying to push for the dream of all these positive things he sees, to come to fruition. Immediate results only happens on the internet - this is the WORLD we're talking about... let change COME - work for it and help it.

"...it takes TIME." - War, Motown

Brad   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Wow. I always thought Republicans were anti-America, but I never thought they would come out and admit it like this. This is one of the most despicable things I have ever read. And that is saying a lot considering all the rhetoric they put out.

Dante   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Again, this is why I left the GOP. Steele is just one of the heads on the hydra killing the party. Overall, the GOP is choking on their immaturity. Obama just won an award. This is no better than Kanye West at the VMA's. Can we the people muzzle these wild dogs?

P   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

The above comment by the RNC is an exact reason why republicans have lost power. Yes... awarding the peace prize was premature..... However, rather than slamming Pres. Obama, the Republican National Com. should congratulate him or at the very least not comment at all.

AZ Jake   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

What has he accomplished?

His election echoed the thoughts of a peaceful America, and he beat the pants off of our warmongering Republicans. He's not done.

The Republican party is done, and Glenn Beck and the rest of his loony screamers are about to fracture the Republican party.

Why don't Republican pundits crawl back under their ugly hateful rocks?

Edward Wild   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Question is?.How long has been since his election ?Only 10 month.
President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans

than President Bush end of story. The only think Republicans can do
is criticize Obama day by day.IT is all about "Politics".I feel sorry for those poor bastards.

Tom B   October 9th, 2009 10:40 am ET

The RNC and the Republican Party have become the "Hate America" party. The American President is unsuccessful at attracting the Olympics to the US and the RNC cheers. The American president wins the Nobel peace prize and the RNC attacks the president and the prize. Pathetic and disappointing…

No wonder the American people rate the party at 26%. I'm sure with comments like these, that number will continue to decline.

Rita   October 9th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Look I voted for Obama, I'm a democrat, and I think the award was hasty. But don't bash Obama! He had nothing to do with this! Obviously the world has a much different view of Obama than negative and cynical Americans do. If inspiring and giving people hope around the world was the basis of the award, he deserves it, but I believe there should be much more to a Nobel Peace Prize than that. I agree Obama hasn't been able to accomplish all he set out to do, but he's working on it! This has nothing to do with Obama and everything to do with the judges for the prize.

Tom B   October 9th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Michael Steele should just go somewhere, anywhere and shut up! Steele should ask himself, if Obama was not elected President, would he be the Chairman of the RNC? He should ask also question what has he done for his party, other than become a token. He should also ask himself how does he feel when he hears all the rhetoric about impeaching Obama and folks wanting to take "their" country back? Michael, where do you think you will fit into all of this, so shut up!

Dotson, IL   October 9th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Michael Steele has no reason to slam the President of the United of America, when he does'nt even have the respect or backing from his on party which is the RNC. Why would you want to be chairman of a party that doen'st respect you as chairman. He needs to sit down and shut up.

Jean, Indiana   October 9th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Unbelievable!

The president of our country wins a global award for peace and the Republicans want to bash that?

Start the backpedalling. This is going to make great campaign material for the Dems!

The RNC has something negative to say about Pres. Obama....a real shocker. These guys are as predictable the activity of dirt! What a joke!

Nathan Yount   October 9th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Obama winning Nobel Peace Prize, before his actions could even have a historic review just destroyed everything the the Nobel Peace Prize stood for. People are given Nobel Prizes for a lifetime of dedication and service to the people of this planet. Not only did he not do anything that could be historically verified as a service to the world, if anything worthy at all, but the awarding of Obama with a Nobel Prize is a slap in the face of all the great people who have won it since the start of Nobel Prizes. Thanks, Nobel committee for diminishing the Nobel standard that has held true for the past 108 years.

Shawn   October 9th, 2009 10:37 am ET

This is unpatriotic, this just shows the extent to which the politcal hatred drummed up by the Right wing nut jobs has affected our ability to take pride in the U.S.'s world leadership role. Our president is being honored for promoting peace and freedom, yet his own countrymen toss it to the side like it is some politcal ploy. Lest we forget that George W. only vetoed one spending bill. A bill that would have provided health care to children in need.

Jim   October 9th, 2009 10:37 am ET

I forgot. Did George W. Bush win the Nobel Peace Prize?

Bill NY   October 9th, 2009 10:37 am ET

If unmitigated gall were gold, then there would never be a shortage of money. I guess they believe Bush and Cheney should have received at least several Nobel prizes. Ha!

T   October 9th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Peace? What a laugh! With more unemployment daily, the crime rates are skyrocketing, that is violence, NOT peace. He is driving a wedge between the American people, that is NOT peace! The Nobel Peace Prize awarding has become a joke to everyone with more than a 10th grade education in recent years. Try to pick people with meaningful cntributions to the human race and the planet!

Veteran of War   October 9th, 2009 10:35 am ET

And neither will any Republican because they are so busy bringing down this country and blaming it on the current President as if he can fix in nine months what they have broken for eight years or longer. Michael Steele is clearly a token and once his usefulness wears out he will try to be again what he was before a " FOOL"

Danny, OH   October 9th, 2009 10:35 am ET

What is really wrong with republicans? We had a Bush who for his 8 years in office, never made an attempt to bring peace to the world. Now that the current president has made the initiative and being awarded, they are envy about it too.
A bunch of looser.

Annette   October 9th, 2009 10:35 am ET

The RNC is jealous, very jealous. Each receipient of this prestigous award was awarded as mere men and woman trying to bring about an extraordinary feat whether, science, technology, medicine or peace, to change the world in some positive way. To say he has done nothing is to be very unpatriotic. The same people who cry patriotism would be-litte there President, whether you like his policies or not. The negativity that has shown itself through President Obama presidency really shows the need for healing here at home. It's a shame when others abroad see the good and unity this President is trying to bring to this global world and then his countrymen talk bad.
RNC has demonstrated they are sore losers, regardless if Obama won or not.

Adalbert   October 9th, 2009 10:35 am ET

What do we expect the RNC to say? In this country, we do not have the courtesy to complement each other in the different parties.

Don't hate the player (Obama), hate the game (Nobel peace prize voters)! Obama is just going along doing his thing. jeff   October 9th, 2009 10:35 am ET

Once again the RNC is complain about anything. This is a great honor for Obama and he has accomplished more in foreign relations in his first nine months than any president ever. It is nice to finally see a president try to talk to the foreign leaders instead using force for all situations. Thank you President Obama.

Deb   October 9th, 2009 10:34 am ET

My question to Michael Steele...

What have you done for the Republican Party?

fairandbalanced   October 9th, 2009 10:34 am ET

It is a shame that the GOP can't see beyond the end of its partisan nose.
By any standard, this award strengthens our position on the world stage, whether you support Obama or not. It's good for AMERICA. But then, these are the same people who stood up and cheered when the USA
lost the Olympic venue to Brazil. U S A! U S A! (unless it makes Obama look good....).

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.The Cons just can't stand it.Why must there be a RNC comment on this?

H .Charles   October 9th, 2009 10:34 am ET

They are acting as if he asked for the award. Be upset at the committee that awarded him and let the man do his job. Michael Steele has done nothing. I repeat, NOTHING notable in his life. Being the token for the RNC doesn't count.

Nick   October 9th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Sore losers! More distraction that has nothing to do with what he was given the prize for. Keep it up party of NO. You're doing a great job for this country... NOT!

Joan   October 9th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Sour grapes from a Republican leader who is so green with jealousy that he can't think straight. Obviously the Nobel committee and the majority of the rest of the world think differently. This just shows that the right wing cannot congratulate and give credit to Pres. Obama no matter what he does. Last week they criticized him for "losing" the Olympic games for your country. This week they are criticizing him for "winning" one of the highest accolades in the world. They are never going to give him credit for anything and that is a sad commentary on their values and obvious partisan direction. Just another negative reaction from the party of NO. People around the world are amazed at how your country is so polarized and yet pretends to be a democracy with the highest values. Show some pride and appreciation for your President who has finally brought respect back to your country and has brought more hope for peace around the world than anybody has in years. Congratulation Pres. Obama

Navy Vet   October 9th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Of course they would slam his win. Would you expect them to do anything less when they gleefully cheer when they view the Olympic bid as his loss?

There has been active deliberate campaign from the beginning to undermine everything he is doing from health care reform to foreign policy.

The Republicans have gone from the fiscally conservative to the hypocritical religious right. The party which hasn't been fiscally conservative in years because it allowed itself to be taken over by the extreme religious right is incredibly exclusive. It doesn't like anyone, even in their own party, who doesn't walk lock step in line with all of their radical religious, hypocritical beliefs.

They’re anti women, anti-gay, anti-atheist, anti-Muslim, anti-Jew, anti-civil rights and have no problem pointing the finger at everybody who isn't just like them.

Then because the party itself doesn't inheritantly believe in the rights of others not like them, they try to do a little window dressing by bringing in Steele and Palin.

Steele they neutered from the beginning and Palin is a prime example of their effort to continue to dumb down America by celebrating mediocrity.

Just as with the primaries and presidential election, the right was screaming loudly how the polls didn't matter until they were leading in them. They were sure that Obama would go down in flames because they convinced themselves that their stereotypical Democrat is too lazy to vote.

Keep believing your own stereotypes and then watch as once again, the election numbers will prove you wrong.

Jonathan Raleigh, NC   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Michael Steele.....look in the mirror.......What have you and your Republican party done?......oh yeah!..that's right!.....nothing!!!......My mom always told me...children (meaning Republicans with their childish "You Lie" behavior) should only be seen and not heard from).................For you and the Republican party, Mr. Michael Steele...........I AGREE THAT THIS SAYING FITS YOU GUYS PERFECTLY!!!

MD   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

This man is crazy. That's all there is to it.

Dennis   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

His first day in office and signs an executive order for 300 million dallars to kill unborn babies through the act of abortion and you call that peace?

Has done nothing since he has been in office except send us further into debt. This is a joke!

Can't make up his mind on what to do in the Mideast.

AD   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Not surprising coming from Steele, but wow. Just wow.

pam Eugene OR   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Why can't these GOP'ers just be proud that OUR President won this wonderful award. They would be dancing in the isles if Bush had won this. Of course their war monger never would have won. The party of NO strikes again.

Cynthia   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Wow, based on Steele's comments, I think we all know not only will he never win the NPP, he will never be nominated.
Steele needs to be educated on the meaning of the word PEACE!!
His comments here alone tell you, he has no concept of the meaning.

Tracy-Oakley   October 9th, 2009 10:32 am ET

I think one of the challenges we can look forward to facing today is tolerating the negative comments of the naysayers and pundits who refuse to see the unseen; that peace is in the eye of the beholder. And if my President, President Obama, is "crazy" enough to SEE peace when no one else is even looking for it, then he deserves this and so much more. Great Job Mr. President!!

Debra Austin, Texas   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Now the Rethuglicans certainly don't want 9 months of the 'delegitimization' program to go to waste when Obama picks up these awards. How dare they ruin our efforts to bring down the President and this country. "Country First"....but which country?

Four and The Door   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Yes, it was an interesting choice by the Nobel committee but I understand their message and their perspective. Are there any Americans on the panel? Americans would have a different perspective on the things Obama has done that probably got him selected.

I do have to agree with Michael Steele's comments although maybe will be too brutaly honest for some people.

Craig of LA   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

This criticism by Steele is petty, unpatriotic and shamless. Republicans first attack our president for his patriotism – advocating for our country to be awarded the Olympics. Now they attack him, a fellow American for receiving an international award?

In the midwest where I was raised we honor and celebrate any American that wins an award as it is good manners and patriotic.

The republicans and their fig leaf of a chairman have now sunk to the point where I believe they seek to destroy President Obama's presidency at any cost, even if it brings harm to our country. They lust for power for power's sake and like Machiavelli will use whatever means necessary to achieve it. Well, Mr. Steele, I condemn you and your party. You bring shame to America.

Tim   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Mike Steele you've got a lot of nerve for constantly hating on the President. You think you'd be in the position you're in if Obama wasn't President? Do you think you'd be there if McCain was elected? You need to stop fooling yourself and making yourself look stupid. President Obama is more than worthy of this alcalade. Who do think should've gotten it, George W Bush? Give me a break. Unlike you so-call consevatives who get your rocks soft by establishing conflict in the world, President Obama is about peace and he represents everything that's good about this country. He has also changed the world perception of us. So you, these Tea bagger, and all these other so-called conservatives need to just get over it! While you're at it, remember who and what you are and where you came from!

NYObamacan   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

What is wrong with these people. Our President wins an interantional award and the RNC can only criticize it? What happened to the RNC's pride in our country?

Anonymous   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Wow. Pretty shallow.

Pam   October 9th, 2009 10:31 am ET

This is not so much rewarding Obama as it is slapping the face of the Bush administration. Which makes it all the better.

Ray   October 9th, 2009 10:30 am ET

GOP Talking Points for the past 8 months:

"Obama is dismantling the country. He has destroyed the constitution. He is putting plans into action will turn us all into dirty commies. He is initiating government takeover. He has is doing this. And doing that. I don't like anything he's doing."

GOP Talking Points post-Nobel prize:

"Obama has done nothing at all."

Well which is it???

Beyond Absurd   October 9th, 2009 10:30 am ET

Has the GOP succeeded from the Union? Hey guys, the country's President just won a prestigious award that may just give him more clout to pursue our countries interests internationally and help in solving the Afghanistan problem, so why are you attacking him and trying to use it as a political weapon? Americans are starting to ask, is the GOP with the USA or is it against it?

The Real Issue   October 9th, 2009 10:30 am ET

The Real Issue is the turnaround of policy and image throughout the world. We have a President who is looked at as one who provides an opportunity for peace!! He can, has and will endure great criticism for an obvious honor. However, this President will endure and demonstrate his Change Positions that will be a model for American Citizens and the world. The Issue is not the Republican rhetoric which is partisan and stifling, but the actions of a leader who has begun Change in the world economic and political landscapes!!

Steve   October 9th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Can we award Bush a War Prize? He definitely earned that!!!

Laverne   October 9th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Michael Steele one thing for sure is you could never come remotely close to achieving what Obama has and you are jealous! The world sees President Obama in a different light, they recognize what he has done and is trying to do. It is people like you in the America who are so hate filled you can't see straight. It takes lots of COURAGE to stand up under such great opposition from the right to get things done, try and tackle huge initiatives that others just talk about or complain about. By the way who in are you to say who is deserving of the nobel peace prize? It was a unamious decision by the panel and that is all that matters. Congrats President Obama for your achievements in the face of so many, especially Americans who criticize your every effort. Hang in there, we the people what you in the White House!

Laura, WA   October 9th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Wow...they can't muster the class to simply say "congratulations"? They can't even pretend to be happy that the US President is being recognized like this on the international stage?

Suspending disbelief for a moment and imagining President Bush had won a Nobel Prize, can you imagine the cries of "unpatriotic!!" that would have arisen if the DNC had issued a statement like this?

AXH   October 9th, 2009 10:29 am ET

That's exactly right!!! What has Obama done, nothing except spend, spend and spend more of Americans hard earned money!

What a shame the real heros out there were past up, those who have REAL accomplishments!!

J.P.   October 9th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Like at my kid's soccer game, the president gets a trophy just for showing up.

2010 and Obama's pending lame duck status can't get here fast enough.

"I'm the cult of personality,
the cult of personality,
the cult of person-al-ity."

He won because, in the words of the committee that unanimously gave him the award, "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population," That certainly is better than with an iron fist. And once again, just like in the general election, those who scoff President Obama are a MINORITY. Small minded individuals, make way for the will of the World.

Ed Tallahassee   October 9th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Wow the RNC can turn anything into their Talking Points.

The President of the United States just won the Nobel Peace Prize, and all you do is trash him.

William   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

I realize this must be terribly upsetting to republicans who tear down Obama every chance they get. Much better on this one to keep quiet. Look at the world wide comments and see where the criticism comes from–do you really want to be a part of that group?

shmeckel   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Stating the obvious. We already know all of this Mr. Steele. You do not help your party when you are always so darn hateful. Why attack the President for something he has no control over, Yea, I am sure the independents will come running over to the right.

sean   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

It is pathetic that the anti-American Republicans can't even see the good in recognizing Obama's choice to talk over committing to knee-jerk war. They fail to see the benefits of having the U.S. welcomed back into the community of the world's nations.

Sour grapes from the party of "No!" that left the country in near-ruin. They need to go away and GROW-UP!

Accountant Guy   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

LOL, the Republicans seem to get more pathetic as each day goes by. Get over it Patheticans, he deserved it, you all are just upset that no Republican has done anything but get caught in gay scandals!! CONGRATULATIONS MR PRESIDENT!! YOU DESERVED IT AND WE AMERICANS ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!

David - Tulsa   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Fortunately Michael Steele, you and your republican tribe know all too much about not doing anything. You have whined, cried and bellyached about everything put forth and yet you still stand at the door and offer only your hat in hand seeking to tell everyone else what someone else has not done. There is no joy in mudville for you or the late Jesse Helms. The two conflicts that we are mired in were inherited from that boy genius George, conflicts not WARS, as ther has never been a declaration.

Dave   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

This is absurd..he has not done anything yet to deserve this.

Ken from missouri   October 9th, 2009 10:27 am ET

The republican party is so stupid give them some bait and they will take every time .
The president represents america and when he get's a award that means america wins for the last 8 years we were seen as a bully in the world we started a war over the wrong reason and we ruled by force and in november we elected a man to change our status in the world and he's done that while still looking out for the safety of our country what we be funny is george w bush receiving this award.

Eric   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

The peace prize was diminished when it was awarded to Yasser Arafat. This diminishes it more.

POTUS thus far has only given nice, flowery speeches read from his teleprompter.

Well, talk is cheap.

He accomplished nothing as a US Senator and the trend has continued with his presidency.

yuri   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

While it is true that BHO is yet to achieve anything substantive or substantial to merit the Nobel prize, there ain't no need to slam him as a flash in the pan, by the RNC ruffians, who, apparently, are experts in raising hue and cry, rather than the voice in a sensible and sane way.

D. Tree   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Um, a Republican talking about jobs and fiscal responsibility? Please spare me the empty words! Your party is the reason America is on the edge of bankruptcy in the first place.

nellie   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

It would not matter if jobs were plentiful. Obama is the president. This morning as I tuned in to CNN, it seems there were more questions about why he was chosen for the award. No one there seemed proud for the United States. Another question I would like answered is why the media wanting a rushed decision as to why, how many and when is this man going to make up his mind about afghanistan? If he would send troops, you would make something out of it, if he didn't same thing. Ratings are needed, but slowdown, you did not pressure George on the very same thing in Iraq.

JC   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

I'm really getting sick of this guy whinning. Tell me Steele, what have you done?

Kerri Jones   October 9th, 2009 10:26 am ET

President Obama's efforts may be unrecognizeable to his opponents because they choose to be blinded by ignorance and hate, but I see a man who has done more in his nine-months of service than I expected or even hoped for. It is wonderful to have a new sense of faith in my country's leadership!!

To that end, anyone who honestly believes a man can change the world in nine-months time obviously has a lot to learn. A far as I am concerned, the Republican party has no room to judge. They should be more worried about how they can assist with cleaning up the mess their leader made while he was in office. This ignorance and continued disrespect undermines the value and purpose of our democratic society.

AMG   October 9th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Michael Steele and the RNC should be ashamed that they cannot even acknowledge and congratulate President Barack Obama on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. It is the sad proof that the Republicans can't find anything to be positive about – not even efforts to bring peace to the World.

Chris   October 9th, 2009 10:25 am ET

How do you spell bitter Mr. Steele?

Mic,
Just keep quite for moment. However, your ex- leader Bush ruled this country for eight years without accomplished nothing. Then you guys didn't criticize him. At least in my own perspective, president Obama is doing a wonderful job in everything he does. It will take years for him to clean what Bush has messed for eight years. Please, give him a chance.

Young independent   October 9th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Congratulations Mr. President.

As I heard a commentator say on MSNBC "Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is a souless political prostitute." In other words he has no strong convictions other then self interest and promotes what ever GOB mob boss Rush wants him to say.

Chad   October 9th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Like Chicago with the Olympics – why can't Republicans ever have anything nice to say? The president of OUR nation received the Nobel Peace Prize! Suck it up and for once put patriotism above partisanship.

musician   October 9th, 2009 10:22 am ET

The question I`m asking is, "what has Micheal Steele actually accomplished???". I think we know the answer. Obstruct, distort, complain, accuse, lie. He has a lot of nerve. I nominate Michael Steele for the "Failure to Do Anything Helpful" Award. He a shoe-in. It`s strange to see the GOP completely unable to have any sense of national pride after our President wins a Nobel Peace Prize. Wow. Sour grapes I guess, or jealousy, or confusion that the rest of humanity seems to think this guy is really doing something special. They just don`t get it. They probably never will. We`ll move forward without them.

Sheena1a   October 9th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Isn't this wonderful, if he would deserve it, it would be great, but what has he done but talk and turn this country against each other? He makes friends with our enemies, the very ones that kill Americans, that is some accomplishment huh?
And already his health care reform is affecting Seniors, I'm afraid to see what else is to come. I worked all my life and paid in to SS and Medicare and now am finally able to use it, and I just got my refills of prescriptions today, I have lung problems and the very inhaler I need for it to help me breath, is taken off the Government senior care program. I have little money now, and will have to pay myself and its very expensive, besides pay all my bills, home, electric, heat food, insurances, etc, I and many others are going to be hard pressed to meet all these bills, whle this government takes away from us, and gives to illegals and lazy people that dont want to work. It is a sad day to see what he is doing, and so many praise him blindly, wait till they see what he is really trying to do and its not good.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he would hold good to his promises, but it seems they were all hollow, and he had other ideas.
I only hope and pray that America's children dont have to contend with hardship. I hope Obama stops and thinks what he is doing to this country and rights the wrongs. Almost all the people in government that are pushing all these laws down our throats, are doing so without doing what they promised when they got elected, they were suppose to help the people, not hinder them.

bert   October 9th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Well he did become the first Black President of the United States of America. I think that in it self is an awesome achievement.
The President has only been in office for less than a year and he is moving and shaking. I personally am excited for the furture the President is leading us towards. God Bless America and President Obama.

Ray   October 9th, 2009 10:21 am ET

The first thing that came to mind is that I know international relations under the Bush administration were horrible, but for the next president to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his trying to get international relations back on track within 11 days of his taking office, things were FAR WORSE than I thought under the Bush administration!

Obama's administration has made a profound positive effect on the world of international diplomacy, he's given America her pride back - and not the harmful pride that was so prevalent in the Bush "let's be arrogant, condescending and arrogant" style of diplomacy.

Still, a Nobel Prize is astounding - that means that Obama is doing everything right on the world stage and Bush did everything wrong. Are there any intelligent people left in the GOP who don't get this very obvious truth?

windfall   October 9th, 2009 10:21 am ET

jules sand-perkins   October 9th, 2009 10:20 am ET

When I heard that Obama had won, my first reaction was, "why?" That wasn't because of my objections to many of his goals, and my surprise had a flat affect.
It surprised me further to hear criticism of the Nobel committee, any criticism seeming ungracious. However, what can one's reaction be?
Obama, in fact, has not done anything to earn the Nobel Prize.
I am still trying to understand the committee's utility for awarding the prize to him. The only reason I cen understand is that members of the committee want to help him with his far-left fiscal agenda.
It is an embarrassing situation for all concerned.

The black Spider   October 9th, 2009 10:20 am ET

The republicans hate the Nobel Price commitee because It should have been Ronald Reagan 9 months after he took office.
I am sorry that did not happen and they are JEALOUS.

Michael Steele, if you have the mental ability to look back to a year ago, you should be praying to whatever god you worship that we were delivered from the grip of your party and that someone took over that has this country heading toward recovery. If you think that the American people cannot see through the nonsense that you and your party call a "platform" you are only fooling yourself.

Apparently Steele and the other "anti-Americans" are not happy with our President AND the USA being honored.

They were happier when the USA lost the 2016 Olympics.

Apparently they prefer people throwing shoes at our President rather than honoring him!

Don't these people like America?

Sounds like Steel is mad that a Republican didn't get the award for going to war in Iraq on false intell. Oh wait that George Walker Bush who lied the AMERICAN people to go to war. I think Bush should get an award for that, award for LYING to the AMERICAN people to declare war and also lets not forget to reward him for his FAILURE for FEMA in KATRINA.

Billy J..Texas..   October 9th, 2009 10:18 am ET

The RNC spokesman said as he wiped a tear from his eye, and asked for his mommy...

on a more serious note, I don't know what to think of the award, other than it was a thumbs up for dumping the last group of knuckleheads running this country. That doesn't mean they are going to love this new batch, if they don't get serious. But anything is better than throwing the finger at the world while you shovel money to your friends at the bank, Haliburton, Blackwater, pharma etc.

Good Job RNC. Keep shooting yourselves in the foot by acting like the spoiled rotten corrupt babies you are. If Obama saved a baby from a burning car you all would slam him. You are the crying baby in the restaurant, the kid throwing a fit in the grocery store line, the church going hypocrites, and even with all your money and power the people with common sense and logical insight will prevail. I know it hurts.

Centrist   October 9th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Huh? The RNC slams how proud our country should feel for having the President of the United States humbly receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his accomplishments: unanimous support for nuclear disarmament at the G20 summit, a more constructive defense policy in Europe, and nuclear non-proliferation legislation as a senator.

What happened to "Country First"? Steele makes it seem more as "Party First". Sad for him.

On a positive note, I congratulate our country and president again for this great honor.

God bless America!

Lisa Freeman   October 9th, 2009 10:17 am ET

What have you done except say no – Steele & Co.!!!

Rich   October 9th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Hey Steele, remember we are all Americans! Also the award is not based on what has been done, but what is being worked on. The award is a so called push to make sure the recipent continues his/her work.

Got to love the party of NO, first they cheer that America lost the Summer Games of 2016, now they question why an American won the Nobel Peace Prize... Country First, wasn't that their slogun in 2008???

Jim Clarke   October 9th, 2009 10:17 am ET

What is the reason people can not just accept that the Noble Prize committee Awarded this to President Obama. Remember this is an Award that others chose him to receive it. The President did not choose it nor nominated himself. We hear how others Self Promote and those who are commenting about the choice and the negative aspects NEED to look at themself to see where they fall short for themself.

JOMO   October 9th, 2009 10:16 am ET

How ironic that Steele, the GOP's token, Uncle Tommish, "me too" response to the Obama nomination and presidential win, should criticize the president's award in light of the dreadful legacy on international relations and problems that we have inherited from the Reagan-era intrigues in the Middle East and Central America, and from the Bush Daddy-Baby military bungling.

Pauline   October 9th, 2009 10:16 am ET

Mr. Steel is just a jelous man. Pity he can't stop trying to put the Pres. down and do something constructive for once in his life . He will never get to where he is inspiring to be, cause the RNC wont let him. They are to radical. Have some back bone for once Mr. Steel and stand up for truth.

Steve in Denver   October 9th, 2009 10:16 am ET

The appropriate thing to do when one American is given a significant award by esteemed bodies is to say "congratulations."

He is being recognized for the diplomacy he has engaged in, reversing eight years of "I can see his soul by looking in his eyes" that the moron last president practiced. He is being recognized for restoring America's moral leadership in the world after eight years of ignorance and torture.

I'm so glad we went with the smart guy this time!

How can the Olympic committee get it right and the Nobel committe be so wrong.

How can rhetoric be rewarded like this -- especially when the actions differ so greatly from the words. I can think of 5 million or more far more worthy recipients of this prize.

This is a polarizing thing for Norway to do - and a huge gaff sure to bring global condemnation

They're just jealous! Look who they've got:

Palin, Ensign, Sanford, Huckabee, Romney, Pawlenty ...

A bunch of quitters, cheaters, ignoramouses and airheads, willing to put party before country in their quest for money, power and fame.

Hypocritically spouting "Christian" values, all the while assuming Americans are too stupid to notice.

Pathetic losers, all!

These are the American leaders that sit around write our legislation. I think the Republican party needs to learn how to have better sportsmanship about things.

Barack Obama has accomplished something so large and powerful, Mr. Steele is even envious of his strides. For the first time in 8 years, politicians are talking about middle America. For the first time in ten years, politicians are talking about health care. For the first time ever, I can tell my children, who will be mixed race (Black and Mexican), that they can be whatever they want to be without feeling like there is a 1 in million chance that they will accomplish their dreams.

I am sick of politicians like you that believe in smearing someone that is only trying to fix this country. I hear you when you say he has not lived up to all his promises, but I did remember him saying in his campaign "there are times when you will not like me and there are times when you will love me." He is bringing the change we believe in to this country in way that is fundamental, he is doing what is right, not politically right. He will not be liked, but you have to hand the man respect for his beliefs.

Barack Obama, congratulations! Take this moment as one of inspiration.

Crystal   October 9th, 2009 10:14 am ET

As Americans, shouldn't we be proud that a fellow American won this prestigious prize? They can give that prize to anyone, and I, for one, am proud of our President for winning this award! We may not understand that decision-making process of the Nobel committee, but their decision was unanimous and based on Obama's efforts over the course of his twenty year career in American politics. It sounds naive, but can't we just agree to be proud Americans on just this one issue???

AEK   October 9th, 2009 10:14 am ET

Mr. Steele and the Republican party are "experts" at all those things he is criticizing the President for? It seems to me that the economy was in the toilet, job loss was accelerating, and Mr. Bush had gotten us into two very expensive wars prior to President Obama taking office. Now that he's been in office all of ten months, the Republicans are blaming him for the eight years of failed government under President Bush? Sounds so typically Republican!

Living in America   October 9th, 2009 10:13 am ET

This American thinks it's fantastic! Congratulations Mr. President!

Rob   October 9th, 2009 10:13 am ET

EXACTLY! What has he accomplished? He's apologized to pretty much every tyrant and dictator. He's ruined the US economy for years to come. He's putting decent Americans' lives at risk trying to decide which approach to Afghanistan will keep him popular. He hasn't accomplished squat! I guess then by the Nobel standards, one really doesn't have to DO anything, just look good saying it.

Someday Obama won't be able to pull the wool over people's eyes.

JayG   October 9th, 2009 10:13 am ET

They must be giving these awards away in happy meals now. Obama does not deserve an award like this. That award is now cheapened in my eyes. Anybody who actually thinks he deserves this award is kidding themselves.

sour grapes Mr Steele? The Nobel Prize committee has nothing to gain or loose by awarding President Obama this award. They see what he is promoting and what good he can do.

Paul from Phoenix   October 9th, 2009 10:12 am ET

I agree that this award for Obama is a sham, but comments like this by the GOP is why I find it hard to support either party anymore. Yes, we know it is a sham, but this press release is unnecessary. We the public know it is a sham. If the GOP wants to win back supporters, they need to grow up a litte.

As for dems, they have shown they are incapable, even with unbelievable majorities, of accomplishing anything meaningful.

Mitchell from MS   October 9th, 2009 10:12 am ET

Well said!!!!!!!!

What has this man accomplished?

1. Quadrupled the national deficet in 9 months
2. A failed stimulas plan
3. He could not run cash for clunkers
4. Let Iran develop a nuclear weapon while turning his back on Israel
5. Turned victory in Iraq into uncertanty
6. Allowed more US military personel to die in Afghanistan while he drags his feet making a decision on troop levels.
7. Tried to force millions of Americans into a gov. run health care plan they do not want.

I could go on but I am not going to. If this is what it takes to win a peace prize you can keep it.

Ben   October 9th, 2009 10:12 am ET

I like the guy a lot – but he should not accept this award. There is too much left to be done; a good start but the award is far too premature.

Put down the Haterade republicans. What did George W. Bush do peacefully during his 8 year tenure? Oh! He sent us to a war based on falsehoods and many young Americans DIED. Our current President went to Cairo and opened a dialogue betweent the U.S. and the Muslim world. I can't think of any republican who ran for POTUS in 2008 that would've done that.

Criticism is appropriate   October 9th, 2009 10:11 am ET

Obama took office 10 days before Nobel prize nominations closed – this is a global disgrace.

The US is waging two wars and Obama is thinking of escalating in Afghanistan – this is an insult to Muslims around the world

Obama may be a fitting choice in the future - IFm and that is a big IFM he actually accomplishes something truly worthy of the Nobel prize.

I fear that this premature award diminshes greatly the stature of the Peace Prize, and is an insult to every previous winner.

Norm   October 9th, 2009 10:11 am ET

OK sure, the Nobel Peace Prize? Don't completely get that, but to turn it into a political shot!? The GOP is shameless! Obama didn't lobby for the award, he can't be blamed for being GIVEN an award. He didn't run a race or take a test to get this award. Some judges used arbitrary criteria and came to a decision (albeit an odd one). The GOP needs to concentrate on solving problems! How about this "Congratulations Mr. President, now lets' get back to work".

I'm an American too Mr. Steele, I'd appreciate it if you didn't try and speak for me!

Duane   October 9th, 2009 10:11 am ET

I'm an Independent and I'm baffeled why he won as well......I voted for him but he has done.......nothing to deserve this award.......nothing.

Steve in Denver   October 9th, 2009 10:11 am ET

Steele – just another mean, spiteful thing when Obama is being recognized for reversing eight years of failed foreign policy.

He is ending the war in Iraq that your guy bungled for five years. He is working to find a solution to the eight year nightmare your guy bungled in Afghanistan. He is closing Gitmo. He is negotiating with foreign leaders, working to find non-military solutions to global issues.

Why can't you neocons get it? When America wins, we all win. Had we won the Olympics, Democratic entrepreneurs AND Republican entrepreneurs would have won. When Obama ends wars, Democratic soldiers and the few Republicans who serve stay home.

Why do you hate America so much that you'd do anything, including cause America to fail, to make sure Obama doesn't get credit for anything?

D&D   October 9th, 2009 10:10 am ET

Nothing is ever going to be good enough for republicans anyway...when you don't like someone, no matters how good he/she is or what he/she does, you will never acknowledge it...that what is sad with most republicans.

- They hate our President more than they love our country (how else do you explain their glee at Chicago losing the bid for the 2016 Olympics?)

Aaaaaaand there we have it folks: undeniable proof that this scares the GOP. What a petty bunch of children they are....seriously...the only reason to say something negative about it is because they fear it damages their position with the voting public.

Here's what they should have said: "We would like to congratulate President Obama on receiving the prize. It does honor to our country to have the POTUS' efforts towards world peace recognized in such a manner." Period. End of story. Move on and talk about the economy, etc., but don't link the issues like they did. They're just too stupid, angry and afraid of losing power to realize that they will look petty, childish and bitter for attacking it. It's completely absurd.

Lila   October 9th, 2009 10:10 am ET

Disgusting. And astonishing. Perhaps Steele should take some time to seek the explanation for why Obama won.

This is a day in which we should be proud of our president, and of our country. But the majority of the right dislikes Obama so much that they can't stop to do that.

They definitely hate Obama more than they like America.

How any American citizen can be upset over their President winning one of the most prized honors in the world? It can only be good for America for Obama to be respected and admired around the world.

This just goes to show how the GOP's hatred of Obama has blinded them to reality and common sense.

It's kind of pathetic when the GOP takes their talking points from Saturday Night Live. "The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it gave the prize to Obama for his "efforts to strengthen international diplomacy," his "vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons" and for inspiring hope and creating "a new climate in international politics.""

clearly Obama HAS done what the Nobel Committee says. the world as a whole HAS moved towards peace, and yes, there still are trouble spots and some of them have gotten worse, but the world as a whole is better. why are the republicans so negative. why, why, why? How can the republicans be so incredibly out of it?

Bubble of Sanity   October 9th, 2009 10:06 am ET

This is not a partisan issue. This is a logical issue. As CNN itself has noted, Mr. Obama would have had to have been nominated less than a month after he took office.

He may end up being the next Lincoln or Gandhi, but there has not been enough time to decide.

The Nobel committee has become a joke. The nomination of Al Gore a few years ago over a heroic woman who saved hundreds from Nazi Germany is an illustration of just how silly they have become.

It is no reflection on our president that there were dozens of more worthy candidates. They have had time to let their qualities show through.

Of course, how can you get past the irony anyway, of an award for peace that was named after the inventor of explosives that are now being used in roadside bombs?

Repbulicians, Obama has not been in office a year and you expect him to fix all the messes of the last 8 years of your Bush/Chaney terms in just 9 months of office? If you Republicians would try to work with this President instead of trying everything you can to make him FAIL and putting him down every chance you get, maybe this country would get back on it feet faster.....you are the ones STALLING the process of Growth in this country, you are the ones putting up road blocks on the Health Care Bill, and don't for one minute speak for Americans or say that "What Americans are Asking is" you speak for your Party, the right wing conservative radicals but don't speak for the rest of us.......THOSE OF US THAT VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE ARE PROUD OF HIM AND SUPPORT HIM........AND THAT WAS THE MAJORITY OF AMERICA THAT PUT HIM INTO OFFICE........ the remarks your making against this President on a DAILY basis is getting to the point of showing your real TRUE HATE and PREJUDICES TOWARD THIS PRESIDENT AND THE MANORITIES OF THIS COUNTRY, THE POOR AND LESS FORTUNATE OF THIS COUNTRY........so don't speak for us MR. The real question Americans are asking is, "Why isn't the Republican Party helping our president instead of just standing in his way?"

Other quesitons Americans are asking:

- Why does the Republican Party continue to put party before country?

- Why does the Republican Party want our President and our country to fail?

- Why does the Republican Party incite violence, hatred and division?

- Why is the Republican Party so anti-American?

Yes, they did.

Marie Laveaux   October 9th, 2009 10:04 am ET

How nice! I knew it wouldn't be very long before the RNC would come out with a nasty, negative statement. If this isn't enough proof of the childishness of this party, I don't know what is. The only thing standing in the way of the Presedent's concrete action is the reactionary, tantum-throwing Republican Party. Finally, it is a sad, sad day when the rest of the world gladly acknowledges the man that so many Americans love to hate, but it does show how backwards America has become under conservatism.

rr   October 9th, 2009 10:04 am ET

I agree with former Nobel Prize winner Lech Walesa, a man who risked his freedom to stand up for peace and democracy.

Flowery speeches and apoologies haven't done squat to bring peace to the Middle East, stifle Iran and North Korea's belligerence, end problems in Somalia or the Sudan or anything else.

This makes no sense!

Leonardo   October 9th, 2009 10:04 am ET

I think we should all be proud when an American wins the Nobel peace prize. It certainly isn't Obama's fault that the Nobel comittee decided to award him the prize so early in his presidency. That's their judgement, not his.

RNC and republicans should work with our president to make our country better, instead of thrashing him for things that he does not take decisions over. Simply ridiculous and stupid talk from the RNC

How did Obama win Nobel price for peace and why?

What an absurdity? This might the irk the entire world. Obama must reject it to stop his sliding approval ratings.

Pete   October 9th, 2009 10:03 am ET

Huh. Country First, Republicans?

Perhaps, just perhaps the reality that President Obama was going to engage with the world instead of reflexively bombing it might have had a lot to do with the prize being awarded to him than anything else.

Marlene   October 9th, 2009 10:03 am ET

And here they go! Name one person who the committee should have awarded the annual prize to, instead of President Obama. So typical of the opposition party to criticize anything to do with the President.

Ed From Wisconsin   October 9th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Micheal Steele, you are an embarrassment to yourself, your crazy party, and to honest Americans. Obama has accomplished more in less than 9 months than Bush accomplished in 8 years. Last time I checked my portfolio, it was up over 30%. When Bush was in office, it was down. Obama good looking on saving my retirement funds, because the Rethugblicans have no clue on how to fix the economy. That’s why the stock market has rallied in the green, since the new administrations arrival. Eat it haters lol!

Perception is reality. Whether he has accomplished real change or not, his openness and willingness to listen, and try to reach accords instead of dictate threaten and ignore, has changed the world's perceptions of us as a nation and a people. You can argue whether that's worthy or not, but before you build a house you need a strong foundation.

Jeff   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

OK, Before people start complaining about Republicans, think about what was said, "What has he accomplished", other than going all over the world telling people he is sorry for what "America" has done to them. I really don't see anything concrete that he has done, other than make a "fool" of himself at the "beer summit". The Democrats defend him by saying " he has only been in office 9 months", so what has he done in those 9 months to win this Prize?????

You probally will not post this, maybe I had better go to FOX and post this, I think more people read and watch FOX than CNN anyway!!!!!

Independant Vet   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Josh   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Mr. Steele,
Why you are crying? because your boss did not get it. You should be proud about this instead of opening your mouth. Committee must have faith in him that he can bring peace and stability in the world. keep in mind he is not a warmonger...........

Kelli Butler   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Why is every one giving Obama such a hard time! OMG really, he's been in office less than a year, it takes time to get things corrected. Leave the man alone and let he do the best job he can do considerating what type of mess was left for him..

yes he can   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Yes President OBAMA is young, accomplishments are many, cheapend awards, NO! He will receive many nay sayers by the GOP and other who believe they should have received it. However he will remember the award was given for future potential, he will donate his million toward a worthy cause and nation and ensure future help. President OBAMA potential for greatness has been recognized. YES, THE GOP has failed and will continue to fail, YES WE CAN! HEALTHCARE FOR ALL IS A WORTHY ACHIEVEMENT!

Donna Stewart   October 9th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Enough of that windbag Steele. How has he contributed to the advancement of jobs and fiscal responsibility. They are just circling like vultures but he should look in the mirror, the RNC has accomplished nothing but try to divide the country.

All the countries that have made it through their recessions, Japan and Germany etc have stood by their elected leaders. Americans need to wise up and unite ! This is 9 months, where were they for 8 years....give me a break!

The black Spider   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Can you spell J e a l o u s.
How many republican president won this price in the past?
They should create a price they can win " Nobel war, imperialism and insanity price".

Dan, TX   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Ok, so the republicans hate the Nobel prize awards committee. How is this the 'fault' of President Obama?

Republicans are represented by this man. Therefore, I can only conclude that all republicans are illogical fools.

David   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I would like to pose a Mr. Steele a very simple question…

Who has done more to promote global peace & security in 2009 than Barack Obama?

No, seriously Mr. Steele...Who?

Island girl   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

You jealous soul!

What has he accomplished? He has accomplished respect and accolades for trying to foster peace and not war like his predecessor. Have you heard from Castro and Chavez lately?

clifford in New York   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Thank you Micheal Steele!

AMERICA LOST AND REPUBLICANS REJOICE ON US LOSING THE OLYMPICS   October 9th, 2009 10:00 am ET

TO bad they dont do the opposite award of the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

BUSH/ VADER winner of the WARMONGEERING AWARD and lost
PALIN winner of the TERROR award "DEATH PANNELS"
BECK/ RUSH winner of the RACIST HATE GROUP award
FOX NEWS winner of the SS guard award
RNC winner of ORGANZIED HATE CRIME award

Lisa T   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

Wah...another conservative who hates America!

Shucks   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

This is as much an honor for President Obama as it is a slam against the republican agenda and the last administration. This shows you what the rest of the world thought of Bush and his dictatorship. For those who say who cares what the rest of the world thinks? We all better care as our economy isn't going to be the primary economy very much longer. That is also thanks to the last administration. Everything about is was crooked, ill conceived, and an abomination to the rest of the world, (including our allies), which cause us to lose respect globally. We are now in repair mode, and this prize for Obama and his administration is imeasurable.

Billie Lamaire   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

"Man of Peace" - look in the Book of Revelations to see what it says about this man.

scott in atlanta   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

When I consider the calibre of the accuser, I'm all the more proud of you Mr. President.

If you were to ever receive praise from Michael steele, I would have to be suspect of your very being.

Nathan   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

What has the man accomplished

Dave   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

What a joke! What has been accomplished? President Obama has done virtually nothing yet for America and the world, and yet he is given rock star status? Talk about bias!!!! Let's see how he handles Afgahanistan and Iran and the middle east, and then let's talk about peace. Remember, appeasement is not peace (as we saw with Hitler). It only makes things worse. No one should promote war, but burrying your head in the sand is equally dangerous. We have laws and police domestically, but we seem to think they are not needed internationally. in the words of Dr. Phil, GET REAL!!!

Angie in PA   October 9th, 2009 9:59 am ET

SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE STEELE

We know your jealous because you are a just a token! you wish you could be Barack Obama CONGRATULATIONS TO MY PRESIDENT!!

eolufemi   October 9th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Jealous much.

Barbara - Atlanta GA   October 9th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Mr. Steele, this is a Nobel "Peace" Prize something a republican will never receive!

Anthony   October 9th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Yes perhaps if he could add fuel to disagreements, like iran and north korea, and russia. Perhaps had he refused to speak with anyone who disagreed with him. Perhaps he could have backed out of international treaties and violate international law and conventions like the previous administration. Then maybe he would get a small nod from republicans. Gee im shocked they didnt suggest these aproaches instead. Just give him a moment and a chance, and let it go for a day.
You guys have nothing, Where are your ideas and plans, without them you will not regain power.

Terry from West Texas   October 9th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Here we go. Conservatives have to find a way to describe our president winning the Nobel Peace Prize as an insult to America and the action of a bunch of lackwit, politically correct Europeans whose opinion can be dismissed. After ten months of opposing everything that Obama proposes, locking up the Senate, dragging out debate. dispatching crowds of rowdies to town hall meetings and "tea parties," and disseminating outrageous lies about "death panels" and birth certificates, and doing everything else possible to kill every Obama Administration proposal - NOW the Conservatives are saying that Obama hasn't accomplished enough.

So, it must gall Conservatives that Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and Barack Obama have all won the Nobel Peace Prize and the respect of the world, while their heroes Ronald Reagan, George Bush (the good one), George Bush (the other one), John McCain, and Sarah Palin are remembered as no-talent, unaccomplished, intellectual light-weights. For some reason, Conservatives prefer not-too-smart leaders.

Frozone   October 9th, 2009 9:57 am ET

What has the President accomplished? At this point in his reign, Bush had already lost the World Trade Center.

America Shrugged   October 9th, 2009 9:57 am ET

Nattering nabobs of negativity.. Who would have thunk?

katiec   October 9th, 2009 9:57 am ET

This is so SAD.
Americans, we must let the GOP know that we no longer will accept or tolerate their CRAP.
Their sewer tactics and the media fully supporting them has to
stop. They are an embarressment and the rest of the world is
watching. What they must be thinking of us.

NO LONGER A FAN   October 9th, 2009 9:57 am ET

Steel get's it right for a change. What has Obama done to deserve this? Nothing. It is now not such a prestigious award. His PR People writing speeches he reads off the teleprompter deserve it more than he does. Take the money and put it in the tax coffer to cover some of your spending but give the medal back.

Sharon   October 9th, 2009 9:56 am ET

Steel -- you should be ashamed of you self. The question is What have you done to make this world a better place???? What will they write on you tomb stone -– Lacky for the Republican Party

Grog in Ohio   October 9th, 2009 9:56 am ET

So... an American president wins the Nobel Peace Prize and the GOP whines that it's a bad thing? Why do Republicans hate America?

scott in atlanta   October 9th, 2009 9:56 am ET

Make your haters your motivators.

"There are none so blind as those who will NOT see."

Randolph Carter, winner of the Nobel beer drinking prize   October 9th, 2009 9:55 am ET

Name one republican who has "made real achievements working towards peace and human rights" lately. They're much better at making real achievements working towards war, ignoring the poor and increasing corporate profits. Have a nice day!

Mike   October 9th, 2009 9:55 am ET

Truer words never spoken. owl gore cheapened it and now so has nobama.

Roger   October 9th, 2009 9:54 am ET

One thing for sure Michael Steele will never receive any kind of award unless it is for being a right wingnut....wacko...

Vicki   October 9th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Obama has alot on his plate with Bush's mess!

Angus McDugan   October 9th, 2009 9:53 am ET

I can't believe I am agreeing with Steele. Usually he is just a propaganda talking head for the RNC.

Nat   October 9th, 2009 9:53 am ET

I agree completely and I'm not Republican.

phoenix86   October 9th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Obama winning that award makes sense. They gave it to Gore for making a fictional movie and Carter for being an anti-semite.

Why NOT give it to a mindless fool now?
