RNC slams Obama award

(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is slamming the Nobel Committee's decision to award Presdient Obama the Nobel Peace Prize:

“The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”

I think we should all be proud when an American wins the Nobel peace prize. It certainly isn't Obama's fault that the Nobel comittee decided to award him the prize so early in his presidency. That's their judgement, not his.

RNC and republicans should work with our president to make our country better, instead of thrashing him for things that he does not take decisions over. Simply ridiculous and stupid talk from the RNC

I agree with former Nobel Prize winner Lech Walesa, a man who risked his freedom to stand up for peace and democracy.

Flowery speeches and apoologies haven't done squat to bring peace to the Middle East, stifle Iran and North Korea's belligerence, end problems in Somalia or the Sudan or anything else.

    This makes no sense!

So, what Steele is essentially saying is, "I know better than the Nobel committee." What an arrogant, bitter little man, caught up in the fantasy that his position is somehow the equal of our President's.

Indeed, it is not that this decision "is not right" this award decision "is not even wrong"

How nice! I knew it wouldn't be very long before the RNC would come out with a nasty, negative statement. If this isn't enough proof of the childishness of this party, I don't know what is. The only thing standing in the way of the Presedent's concrete action is the reactionary, tantum-throwing Republican Party. Finally, it is a sad, sad day when the rest of the world gladly acknowledges the man that so many Americans love to hate, but it does show how backwards America has become under conservatism.

And what did Bush do to improve Human Rights?

Did he order missiles to be shot into family weddings full of innocent civilians during 'shock and awe'?

    Yes, he did.

Did the RNC and Republican voters joyously foam at the mouth when he did this?

    Yes, they did.

I opened up a box of Cracker Jacks this morning and found a prize in it. I don't know what I did to deserve it. This popcorn is delicious though.

He has revamped America's image around the world in less than nine months, ended the disaster that was our torture program, first person of color elected as President in a country with a dark history of racism, is on the verge of passing the first meaningful health care reform in a generation, has a responsible plan to get us out of Iraq, and is doing what is necessary to pull us out of the worst recession since the Great Depression. All in less than nine months. What have you done Mr. Steele. Congratulations, President Obama.

The real question Americans are asking is, "Why isn't the Republican Party helping our president instead of just standing in his way?"

    Other quesitons Americans are asking:

    - Why does the Republican Party continue to put party before country?

    - Why does the Republican Party want our President and our country to fail?

    - Why does the Republican Party incite violence, hatred and division?

    - Why is the Republican Party so anti-American?

Repbulicians, Obama has not been in office a year and you expect him to fix all the messes of the last 8 years of your Bush/Chaney terms in just 9 months of office? If you Republicians would try to work with this President instead of trying everything you can to make him FAIL and putting him down every chance you get, maybe this country would get back on it feet faster.....you are the ones STALLING the process of Growth in this country, you are the ones putting up road blocks on the Health Care Bill, and don't for one minute speak for Americans or say that "What Americans are Asking is" you speak for your Party, the right wing conservative radicals but don't speak for the rest of us.......THOSE OF US THAT VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE ARE PROUD OF HIM AND SUPPORT HIM........AND THAT WAS THE MAJORITY OF AMERICA THAT PUT HIM INTO OFFICE........ the remarks your making against this President on a DAILY basis is getting to the point of showing your real TRUE HATE and PREJUDICES TOWARD THIS PRESIDENT AND THE MANORITIES OF THIS COUNTRY, THE POOR AND LESS FORTUNATE OF THIS COUNTRY........so don't speak for us MR. Steel........

Surprise, surprise. Another slam against America from Republicans. They rooted against America for the Olympics and now criticize when an American wins the Nobel Peace Prize.

  20. Bubble of Sanity

This is not a partisan issue. This is a logical issue. As CNN itself has noted, Mr. Obama would have had to have been nominated less than a month after he took office.

He may end up being the next Lincoln or Gandhi, but there has not been enough time to decide.

The Nobel committee has become a joke. The nomination of Al Gore a few years ago over a heroic woman who saved hundreds from Nazi Germany is an illustration of just how silly they have become.

It is no reflection on our president that there were dozens of more worthy candidates. They have had time to let their qualities show through.

Of course, how can you get past the irony anyway, of an award for peace that was named after the inventor of explosives that are now being used in roadside bombs?

And here is something else we learned a long time ago as childrent – NO BACK-SIES!!!!!! Presient Obama deserved it in the PAST – he obviously deserves in NOW and he will earn it in the FUTURE!!!!

You know Steele, with all due respect it would have been too much to ask that you Congratulate our President for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize instead of slamming him. YOU GUYS ARE REALLY SORE LOSERS!!!
