What has he done that is concrete to earn this award. Just by talking doesn't justify an award of this nature.
We would all get the prize for wishing and hoping for peace!!!!
Oslo I think you have a problem!!!

Rollins acts as if anyone in the republican party will ever deserve such an award! It is not given to Nazi's like Rolins or Bush for that matter.

Congrats Mr. President on your Nobel Peace Prize! The Nobel committee awards you for your "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." I'd personally like to thank you for:

    1) Your revocation of the proposed Bush-era nuclear defense shield along the Russian border. This simple act averted further chilling of relationships with Russia and possible resumption of Cold War-like posturing from both countries.
    2) Your revocation of the proposed Bush-era nuclear defense shield that garnered favorable gestures from Russian President Medvedev regarding sanctions against Iran.
3). Your uniting of the G-20 leaders against Iran's secret nuclear facility.
3). Your and Mr. Medvedev's preliminary agreement to cut the American and Russian nuclear arsenals by up to 1/3.
4). Your drawdown of troops faster than expected from Iraq.
5). Your engagement with Pakistan who has now stepped up its effort against the Taliban on the Af-Pak border.
6). Your more even-handed approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Namely no Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories.
7). Your efforts to engage the Muslim world, particularly its youth.

To those of us keeping score, these are very significant accomplishments deserving a Nobel Peace Prize. Expecting even greater things in the years to come on the International and domestic fronts.

As a former Republican, I have to say I agree completely with the statement of the DNC. While it has taken many a long time so realize it, it has been clear to me for some that the current batch of Republicans in office are absolutely committed to politics above all else, and absolutely hardened against change. Thus on many positions they are dangerous to the progress of our nation. They don't want to contribute! They think they are playing the part of the loyal opposition and offering a reasoned and balanced alternate view, but instead what they are doing is being completely obstructionist to any growth or change, even if the American people want it! And worse, the positions they are taking are becoming increasingly un-American and even un-Constitutional. The example given by the DNC in their statement is correct–Republicans think they are opposing Obama and Democrat party policies and positions by nay-saying his award, but when you look at the forest for the trees, their criticisms have a very unpatriotic and un-American tenor. It's despicable. If you told a Republican that a Democrat came up with an idea to finally bring Mideast peace or to end stalemates with North Korea or Iran, they would say, "it must be wrong!" and, "I can't support it!" How blind have Republicans and their followers become?!

That's right!!!! The republiCONS are terrorists. They struck terror in Americans for 8 years to maintain power. They aided Osama bin Laden in his attempt to scare us!!!
This shows they care nothing for America, only their own sordid interests.

On Nov. 4, 2008, Barack Obama soundly defeated a warmonger who was running for President. On Jan. 20, 2009, he replaced another warmonger who had been President for eight long years.

Sending one warmonger into retirement, and keeping another warmonger from succeeding him is, in and of it self, an accomplishment of peace.

Is this a JOKE? Obama has done nothing but being a socialism. What has he done? What peace did he do? It's a shame! This make the Nobel Peace Prize worth like a grocery coupon.

I get the feeling that even if President Obama COULD walk on water (as the "Right" wing pundits suggest), I'm sure that they (the "Right" wing) could/would/MUST find fault with him...
Find him incomplete and/or in error somehow.

Be found great yourselves, by someone you don't already control. Let us (on the "Left") cheer you for your success.
I'm sure that there is more for President Obama to do, but it has NOTHING to do with earning the award he has garnered.

Earn the honor? The "peace" Obama strives for is one in which this nation will loose it's power and be at the mercy of a totalitarian regime. Mark my words.

Fortunately Rollins, you were not a part of the NPPC. They made THEIR CHOICE of who they wanted to award THEIR PRIZE to for THEIR OWN REASONS!

P.S. Rollins – so you and all those other hate-filled people out there should mind your own business. You all certainly will not ever be candidates or agents for "PEACE".

The GOP and there narrow-minded comments, actions and focus will only continue to destroy America; They are No Longer A Viable Party; Michael Steele is a Disgrace not only to Afro-Americans but to the US; the GOP would never have an Afro American had it not been for President Obama; He owns his job to the President – even though he must answer to the most Racist Terrorist in American – Limbaugh

I say the Repubican Party needs to be considered a communistic- terrorist organization and needs to be removed from any form or consideration as a part of American!

As a conseravtive, the pursuit of fairness requires my words so, here goes:

The Nobel committee made their decision, time to live with it no matter if you agree or not. As far as I know the president did not campaign for the award. Second, the award was not made for achievement ( there isn't much) but for possibility! I will give the president props for trying BUT at the same time, there will be no nuclear free world. That day has come and gone a long time ago! Anybody seriously think North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, and others will give theirs up? Third, As long as the Palestinians Still pursue Jerusalem as their capital (as Erekat standed today) , there will NOT be peace bewteen the Israelis and Arabs! In fact, Human hands will not usher in peace in that region at all. It will be God's doing! In short, I disagree with the leftist tilt of this administration but the whining and crying over Oslo's decision to award a prize THEY own to the president is sad and a glorious waste of time and MY tax dollars! Hear me loud and clear GOP!

The award has been granted unanimously by the committee ! He doen't have to earn the award .He has it.
Maybe the Republicans have to learn the value of dialogue and working with others to solve our problems! They failed during 8 yrs of governing and are looking very shallow and without any problem solving skills.

    He did. He defeated McBush.

The Republicans are a bunch of crybabies and are destined to go the way of the Whigs – for the same reason, i might add. You lost, to quote numerous right wing pundits in 2001, deal with it .

Thanks, Ed, for that utterly ridiculous comment. How many Nobel Peace Prize winners have actually achieved "world peace", or even the cause for which they were fighting? Martin Luther King didn't end racism in this country. Nelson Mandela didn't end it in South Africa before he won it. The Peace Prize isn't like a scientific award, where there are definitive, provable results and evidence. It concerns a far more abstract and ethereal concept which has to do with a person's impact on the politics of the world. Suggesting that, in order to justify winning this prize, Obama has to now go out and solve the Israeli/Palestinian issue and nuclear proliferation is just plain Republican sour grapes. By the way, how many Republicans have won the Nobel Peace Prize? ..... (Ironically, Teddy Roosevelt was in the "Progressive Party" when he won the prize).

Yes , he does need to earn it , but how can he earn it alone.....or with just his own Democratic party.

The sad part of this that an American won this , it is a huge honor , but the GOP does not want to acknowledge that is an American honored .....all they want to do is tear down that honor since he is not a Repulblican , This is not a politiical honor but a World Honor given to an American. We should all be so very proud and puff out our chest with that pride ..... This is an honor on a Global scale for what we (the US) can achieve and peace making in our future.
This party has to pointed fingers at Dems for years (unjustly so) , saying they are not patriots , not Godly, not flag waving Americans etc etc..... We need to look at who is the really the unAmerican party here, who is not showing pride , nor showing Godly behavior..

The ink is not dry on the notice to the workd of President Obama's award of the Nobel Peace Prize, and republicans are organizing to oppose and denigrate the award. Can't they celebrate an American President being honored? Can't they suspend their hatred for one day? What is wrong with these people and the system that can generate this kind of hate? I don't think the democrats would have acted in the same if George Bush had won.
