Liz Cheney and her father have been among the most forceful conservative critics of President Obama's foreign policy.

(CNN) - Months after her father's prolonged campaign against President Obama's national security policies, Liz Cheney is spearheading a new organization aimed at organizing conservative opposition to the new administration's foreign policy approach.

The new group, Keep America Safe, says its aim is to provide a cogent and organized rebuttal to a series of recent moves that expressly divert from the more muscular policies of the Bush administration. The group plans to tackle hot-button issues like the way forward in Iraq and Afghanistan, defense spending, CIA interrogation techniques and the planned closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

"We have watched with concern and dismay as the Obama administration has cut defense spending, wavered on the war in Afghanistan, and launched investigations into Americans serving on the front lines of the war on terror, while at the same time expanding legal protections for the terrorists that plot to attack this country," Cheney, along with the group's two other founders, wrote on its Web site. "These policies, along with President Obama's abandonment of America's allies and attempts to appease our adversaries are weakening the nation."

Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol and Debra Burlingame, the sister of the pilot of American Airlines Flight 77 - the flight that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11 - are also heading up the new effort.

The new group says its goal is to focus media attention on continuing and emerging national security threats, and marshal grassroots opposition to the president's policies.

Who is this Liz Cheney person? She can see that President Obama has done more to improve foreign relationships in a short period of time and he will continue to improve them. Our country is just as safe today as it was a year ago, or 2 years ago. What makes her some kind of expert? "The Name" ?

Anand   October 13th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

Cheney, the verson somehow is expression of contempt, seethes with over indulged arrogance acquired through profits govenrment contracts. Daughter is coming into activism 8 years late, that tells how lazy and lethargic her brain is.

Otto   October 13th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

Hey Liz, we know daddy made a bundle from Haliburton and he is guiding you on the "How to make a killing" off ignorant people.

You seem to be another Sara Palin who wants a quick fix making millions while using a sling shot of trash talk.

Welcome to club Rush!

The Bum   October 13th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

I strongly believe that this country would be much stronger if Obama would stop campaigning for the presidency and start being the president. He won the election, it's over, now get to work.

If the benchmark for "keeping America safe" is that we weren't attacked AGAIN after 9/11/01 . . . . well, then I guess President Obama has kept us just as safe as Bush/Cheney did!

Bman   October 13th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

I don't care what this dizzy chick has to say. Let me know when we've begun to torture her, then I'll see what she has to say.

Liz Cheney is worthless...just like her dad.

James Michael Roberson   October 13th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Well the country is already safer because of Obama's policies, The proof is obvious. By this time in the previous administration our country had already been attacked by terrorists, There has not been a single attack on the homeland during the entire Obama administration.

Chandler   October 13th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

As if Liz Cheney has ANY ground to stand on. What she has been saying about the Nobel Prize seems incredibly foolish, uninformed, and delusional.

The Right is so focused on being anti-Obama, that they have left reason far, far behind.

Typical liberal response/blogging to this Article-ad hominem, ad hominem, ad naseum. Character assassination is the response of choice for those who facts and logic, and instead serves as a tacit acknowledgment that facts and logic do not support their argument/position.

Linda   October 13th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

They only set up this bogus non-profit so that they can work to defeat Democrats running for election. This so-called "non-profit" can then also pay enormous salaries for Liz and her Dick and fund their travel costs. Disgusting. The only thing this group knows about foreign policy is how to start a war, make sure your friends and Daddy make money off it, and how to set up off-shore banking accounts so the donors to this "non-profit" can keep their wealth safe and untaxed.

Kris D., Toronto   October 13th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

Yeah, using Mr. Dick "18% Approval Rating" Cheney to attack the Obama administration – on the same day Russia agrees to stand with American towards Iran – is a brilliant strategy GOP. Absolutley brilliant...

Ana   October 13th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

Stop the madness!!! Liz, grow up and see the damage your father caused. I know you are as embarrassed as the rest of America is for re-electing BUSH and his criminal sidekick.

Jim W.   October 13th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

The Cheney family is irrelevant and should consider moving out of the USA and opening up their own Nazi country. The tenets of that country would be:
A: No citizen has rights. The gov't has all the rights.
B: We can torture at will.
C: Rich people are better than poor people. Therefore the gov't needs to protect the rich and milk the poor.

Yeah, kind of like the last 8 years here, eh?

Mouthy   October 13th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

Maybe we all should take the Cheney approach and shoot all the terrorists in the face and call it an accident that might make them feel better. Shame on you Obama for not being careless and stupid like the Cheneys.

Bryan   October 13th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

Isn't it funny. If I understand this correctly, Cheney and Co. are using 'think' tanks and conservative groups to combat and rebut the moves of the current administration (e.g., Keep America Safe). But when Cheney was in office, he dismissed any report from academics, think tanks, ambassadors, generals, the pentagon, NSA, etc that firmly rebutted anything that the Bush administration was doing.

On a lighter (funnier note) note, there is a negative correlation between republican agreement and SATs (its a fact)

faithplusnothing   October 13th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

You go Liz! Obama has painted a bullseye on the US.

Robert J. Havecker   October 13th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

It would not surprise me if one of the "secret" financial contributors was Osama Bin Laden since Cheney and Bush allowed him and his family to escape. It would not be uncommon for a criminal to pay back a crooked politician by contributing money through his family.

KC   October 13th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

WOW when will these Cheney people get a life and remember NO one cares what they have to say. They had 8 years and screwed up. Give our new President time to fix all the mess of the last 8 years.

Liz Cheney can come back after she has done a tour or 2 in Afghanistan. See if she still wants to be a war mongerer. Otherwise I think she has about 5 kids that she needs to raise so they can become soldiers in her army when they almost grow up. Havent we had enough of these hateful people and havent they done enough to try to destroy our world and country.

tara   October 13th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

You Talk about Dangerous for America. To actually even consider a group like here. That in itself is almost well maybe it is treason of some sort isn't it. especially considering who her father is. I think that whole thing needs to be investigated. something smells fishy. I also think they are afraid Obama is trying to get rid of contractors and we know that the Cheney's love Haliburton also I think Obama's Administration behind the scenes is getting closer and closer to finding more out about Daddy Cheney's dirty

Sgt. USMC   October 13th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

this should have been done during the bush administration by someone more qualified. i know her father would be in prison by now. liz needs to get out of politics. her name brings shame to America.

If Liz Cheney could just go away. Is it me,or deos it look to anyone else that all Ms. Cheney is trying to do is rewrite history and smoothen out the bad taste of what Bush – Cheney did to this great country. Now that we have a President who's trying to clean up their mess, she's going around fighting for a dead legacy. Liz, give it up, your Dad ruined George Bush's administration, Oh!, I take that back, George Bush was just too stupid and moronic to allow your father to fill him up with his and the Neo – Con's agenda. It is obvious that these people have no shame, if I screwed things up as bad as theses IDIOTS did, I will find me a ROCK and crawl under it, never to be heard from again. But Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, they still enjoy torturing us like they tortured the war captives.

san   October 13th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

How many years has Liz Cheney served in the military (rhetorical question)? None of course. She would never put her life on the line. But, she has no problem pushing for other young people to put their lives on the line to protect her life and her right to spew hatred. I dare say that this is the classic definition of a rich and cowardly blow-hard.

Thankfully I didn't vote for Bush / Cheney (and certainly not Liz) Bush/Cheney policy was an obvious global disaster as it pertains to our standing and leadership position in the world. It's time to move on from these failed policies. Liz, your father wasn't a qualified world leader. Neither are you. Step aside.

Cruzan Obama Mama   October 13th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

This woman is a disgrace. She would rather see this country crash & burn, instead of being honest about the deeds of her father. She will find a way to justify anything, just as long as she keeps Daddy Dearest out of jail. Guess this is her way to keep her name in the will.

Her Dad, her blind justifications, & GWB are the reasons we had to get Pres. Obama in office to clean up the mess they left the US in and restore our reputation worldwide.

Is there anyone in the GOP that recognizes the difference between right & wrong? This is just SAD.

The Real Tom Paine   October 13th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

If Liz Cheney has confidence in her convictions, she will run for President in 2012. Liz is already doing a great job has Dick Cheney's public relations advisor, as evidenced by Dick's approval ratings. The Cheneys are proud of their lies about WMD in Iraq, being greeted as liberators, using Iraq oil revenue to pay for the reconstruction, etc.

The problem is of course is that terrorists just need to be lucky once, just once, during Pres Obama's watch and people like Cheney will yell and point and go 'see! see! I told you!'
In that regard he is on to a loser if it happens, though of course there will be no proof that it would not have happened on McCain's watch either.

And I love to see all the posters going 'socialist states of US, end of our great country, becoming communist, Obama will take away all our rights and freedoms' etc etc.
Oh grow up will you, less of the hysterics please. Nothing will change and the world will still be turning when the next pres gets in, whenever that will be.

Dave Kerns   October 13th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Vgal, since you dislike oil so much, and obviously have no use for it, explain to me how you plan to heat your home, drive your car, text from your cell phone, go on-line from your computer, be employed doing anything, have food to eat, out do anything that requires the consumption of electricity? And don't tell me about "green energy", it will be generations, if ever, before solarbiowindtidalcosmicfeelgood energy can replace oil as and effective, safe, available and reliable source of energy production.

John Metsopoulos   October 13th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

This woman has got to be kidding , prior to her "foriegn policy" profession she worked to improve Coors (a homophobic company) image in the gay comunitty. She probally gained her foriegn policy experience by visiting Sarah Palin and seeing Russia from her house.

Tina   October 13th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

The politics in this country is starting to make me sick. I truly believe that Washington is polarized beyond hope and beyond repair. No administration will ever again be able to accomplish ANYTHING because those who came before will put every ounce of their energy into undermining and destruction. It's hard to look back in history and determine how or when this started happening, but it sure looks like there's no way to end it.
They say Americans are madder than ever before, but right now, all I feel is a sense of hoplessness.

A Real American   October 13th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Now she's an expert. Her draft dodging Dad is delusional, and now he's passed it off to his daughter, I didn't know it was a genetic trait. William Krystol now that lends an aire of credibility. This is the same approach Cheney took when he strong armed Bush into making him VP. Started a "watchdog" group and built a power base of Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, and other right wing wackos to the point where they ran the party. What will this Chaney do? It will be interesting to watch, look for Liz to be a power player in 2012. Chaney/ Palin 2012, or the other way around, either way Dad will be in control, more americans will die, and Dick will get richer.
Please everyone don't forget we were attacked under their watch, not to mention bankrupted, and had no international credibility.
Go away fear mongers!

Nope have to go to a commerical, news medias are becoming a joke..It is time they act like news organizations and journalist and do their jobs the way it is suppose to be done.. a lie is a lie regardless of who it telling it.

Let me get this straight!! The rest of the civilized world is wondering how we can get her father to the world courts to answer for his war crimes, and this new source is only focused on the political aspirations of republicans and the fear of terrorism that they created. America wake up!! People fly planes into your cites and threaten you only because you are self serving and have little if no respect for world order and international law. Back in the early thirties they would have called you “good little Germans…”

Obama DESERVES THE NOBEL. Obama has ALREADY ACHIEVED and ACCOMPLISHED IT. :)
Because:
1. Kicking Out Bush and Bush Regime is in itself an Accomplishment.
2. Defeating Bush and his successor McCain is an Achievement of Peace.
3. Obama deserved the Nobel Prize on the very day he Won Elections.
4. It is just like as if someone could defeat Hitler in elections, would have achieved peace.
5. The real accomplishment however is yet to come when Bush will be Tried and Jailed for the Death of 4300 US Troops, in the unjustified war.
6. Bush Misled America into the War, by lying about WMDs of Iraq.

Mauiharper   October 13th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

Dave   October 13th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

I agree that Obama's foreign policy is full of holes. He promised to shut down Gitmo and that has not happened. He promised to pull out of Iraq and that has not occurred. He said Afgahanistan was the "good war" but he does not seem to want to fight it. He has succeeded at networking with thugs and dictators. His diplomatic skills, while great, have not stopped Iran's nuclear program. On the domestic front, I believe President Obama's administration is less transparent than any other President. Do you know what is in the health bill? Do any of the congressional leaders? Has anyone read it? Will they just vote on a draft that has been prepared by special interests? I find this administration to be very different than they presented in the campaign.

Ben   October 13th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

Dick Channey should be in jail rather than trying to catch some of the national spotlight with his daughter. What we really need is a grass roots movement to put Channey where he belongs. Only a mental midget would listen to this type of rediculous retoric.

Paddy   October 13th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

OH COME ON!
If the majority of the voting individuals in the US decided that the Bush/Cheney ideology did not work, can no longer work and confirmed this by having chosen Obama over Cheney in the elections, the Cheney and his cult are just singing to the choir.
Give it up Cheney, while your ego tells you to continue to fill the country with your rhetoric, every other indication says stifle yourself!
There has to be other more news worthy issues!

Say something like "Obama trying to dismantle insurance industry and put tens of thousands out of work" or "School safety czar advises teen on homosexual practices"?

Your father lied and twisted U.S. intelligence to further his own twisted agenda.

So nice to see you have decided to follow in his footsteps.

Pathetic...

chicago4obama   October 13th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

9-11 was on the Bush/Cheney watch. We lost over 4,000 men and women not counting the thousands of soldiers who were critically injured in Iraq because of the lies about wmd. Now this idiot wants to go back to the good old days.

JS007   October 13th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Hmmm Liz...last I heard 9/11 happened under YOUR DADDY'S watch. Then he invaded the wrong country (Iraq) and wasted $2 Trillion there. I'm sure giving Halliburton contracts had nothing to do with his decision. The Dollar just hit another all-time low against the Euro today; America CANNOT AFFORD any more war! CNN, stop giving these crooks free airtime.

Dan   October 13th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Long overdue. Good luck, Liz.

DianeR PCFL   October 13th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

I wonder how Ms. Cheney will resond when her father is hauled before the World Court in the Hague as a war criminal. Perhaps her time would be better spent creating a Criminal Defense Fund for "Daddy-Dearest" – because he's gonna' need it when Attorney General Holder gets through with his CIA hit-squad-torture investigation.

Cheney and his spoiled idiot daugther are unAmerican. Isn't that what they always said about anyone who dared criticize his Administration??? He should be in jail for lying to the American people, invading a Country for no reason, and starting an immoral, unethical, shameful war.

Why would anyone in their right mind listen to anything Liz Cheny has to say??
Her fathers foreign, domestic policies almost destroyed our country.
Why is she getting headlines, CNN?

Eric   October 13th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Maybe Film Professor needs to go back to school.
The Nobel Peace Prize has been a joke before just as it is a joke in the hands of President Obama. He has accomplished NOTHING in his foreign policy, except to embolden those who hate us and our freedom. He received it for exactly what Liz Cheney said...words, talk...not action.
And the world is NOT our corporation. We are not all on the same team, striving for the same goals. Grow up and see the world for what it really is. A complicated and, at times, dangerous place.

Gabe   October 13th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Why is Cheney still talking and not rotting in jail somewhere?

JEAN - ATL   October 13th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Is anyone as sick of these agents of greed, fear, hate, and lies as I am? At this point I feel that we can't believe anything about anything that comes out of the right wing nuts, and other like-minded peoples' mouths. They have spent years and months predicting and hoping that we get attacked so that they can be right about spending more and more on defense, even to the detriment of something as vital as healthcare reform for all Americans. ENOUGH!!

Louis   October 13th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

THE ROTTEN APPLE DOESN'T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE. Earth to Liz–your father's policies led us into the debacle in Iraq–an unnecessary war that cost a trillion taxpayer dollars, killed 4,000 brave soldiers, killed 100,000 innocent civilians, and created 2 millions refugees. Who's your daddy now?

WAL   October 13th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

I think that it is interresting that a person can be bashed so horribly because she wants to keep America safe. it must be nice for all of you peace loving Liberals to sit bash a person this way because she wants to perserve the freedoms that America has enjoyed, and so many have lost their lives to defend. As much as you think there is no bad men out there, there are. And these people would kill you, maliciously, even as you were offering your little peace flower. Obama's propaganda machine has all of you spun so tightly that you spew hatred on this person, yet call yourselves educated or enlightened. Our society is deteriorating right before our eyes, our children, our morals. Welcome to the Socialist States of America!!!

There is no way that she serious, this has to be a joke. I guess that they wan't to keep the "war" going... Defending George W's policies is ludicrous, not one decent policie inacted in 8 years. The only thing that had a leg to stand on was Afghanistan. Iraq was a stupid move, US PATRIOT Act was insane, "No Child Left Behind" was outrageous, I just don't see how any sane person could defend these actions...

The best thing that could happen is to put Liz, her father, Rush Limbaugh, John McCain and his crypt keeper wife, and the Palins, on an Island with no form of communication to the main world. They are a bunch of radical Conservative idiots.

Why don't we try Dick Cheney' for all his evil deeds and throw him in jail where he belongs for the rest of his life? I think this will change his equally evil and senseless daughter's focus for once.

Wade   October 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

The First Amendment is great isn't it?

I love how everyone here wants to shut her up, yet insist on speaking nonsense themselves.

The bogus Haliburton stories are the best.
You people have a severe case of selective memory loss.
Dick made nothing from those contracts... at least not anything on paper. If he had, he would be sitting in prison right now.

All the other allegations are just that... allegations.
Innocent until proven guilty. Remember... he doesn't have to prove his innocence, a court of law has to prove him guilty.

If you don't like what she has to say, don't listen.
It's your right.

mike   October 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

"Months after her father's prolonged campaign against President Obama's national security policies..." Keep ticking CNN

Deb in Northglenn, Co   October 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

What gives any of these people the expertise to discuss national security issues? None of them have served in the military. Liz had two State Dept jobs because of who her Daddy is. Kristol hasn't been right about anything in years. Burlingame's brother was an airline pilot. We are supposed to believe that these people know more than the Joint Chiefs and the rest of the National Security people in Washington? Sorry, their way (Liz's Daddy's way) had it's chance and failed. Give the new guy a chance and shut up.

Tony Rosario   October 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Really sad and lame.

Sarah   October 13th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

"The new group says its goal is to focus media attention on continuing and emerging national security threats, and marshal grassroots opposition to the president's policies." Too bad we did not have a group like this when we really needed one like when her lying daddy was leading the charge.

mr2percent   October 13th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Mrs. Cheney and her father have a warped view of how the world works. They oppose diplomacy, they defend torture and holding prisoners with out charges. Perhaps someone should remind them that his is America. We were able to survive for 225 years without resorting to torture and without suspending habeas corpus.

Despite the track record of this country before their arrival on the national level, they believe two of the core principles in founding this nation to be useless.

Scaring people into giving up inherent American liberties may have worked once, Cheney Family, but it will not work again.

Ray   October 13th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Shame on you, Cheney!

This woman is as unbelievable and as vile as her father. The Democrats won – it's our turn now. We have to fix what Bush and her repugnant father did for 8 years. She needs to crawl back into the hole she came out of after 8 years. What a dirtball.

John   October 13th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

To dispense with politeness, Dick Cheney is a war criminal

If waterboard is not torture, then we owe an apology to Japanese soldiers who were CONVICTED BY THE UNITED STATES for exactly this crime.

Liz, your father's definition seems to be that if it doesn't leave a mark, it is not torture. Sounds like you are giving permission to every rogue state to torture Americans, as long as it doesn't leave a mark!

MichaelTrost   October 13th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

The idiots just keep on giving. Where is the home for these morons?

Brett   October 13th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Your father was a fear-monger, a liar and a coward. Obvious, he instilled these attributes in you. But you can leave the dark side. Janet Jackson took control of her life and left Papa Joe. You can do it too.

Cathy in AZ   October 13th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Liz Cheney needs to go back under the rock her father crawled out from under!

Mississippi Miss   October 13th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Sounds like a reasonable approach to dealing with the systematic dimantling of the policies that the Bush administration worked tirelessly to get passed. All of that work must not be in vain, but must be appreciated in our renewed attempt to explain it, and to save it.

How soon we forget. It is greatly appreciated that President Bush and Dick Chaney, and those who helped to implement the Patriot Act, have laid a strong foundation upon which to BUILD a safer nation.

Shucks   October 13th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Yes Lizzy, I think we should alienate our allies again, lie to the American people again, Act like the arrogant fools we once looked like again, and just plain look like a country of white, radical, bible thumping, gun loving religious morons like we came across for the last 8 years. Yes Lizzy, I think that would be a wonderful idea if this was 60 years ago, Russia was still a world power, and Pearl Harbor was just bombed. Does this woman actually have a brain, or is she just a medium for her fathers thoughts and wishes?

nomoredics   October 13th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

What exactly has Liz Cheney done in her life that makes her an expert?

Jim   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

it seems to me that this country IS safer under our president's policies. in fact, the general aura on the entire planet is one of less hostility.

you can build a fort with guns bristling everywhere and if people are angry with you, they'll find a way in. they did exactly that on 9/11.

on the other hand, if people are NOT angry at you, they'll have no interest in any fight of any kind.

Sarah   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Why does the media even run these stories? Surely no thinking American takes her seriously.

Carol in PA   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

So, Liz Cheney believes in torture and wants war without giving it any thought. It took us a few years to prepare for World War II to do it right, so why can't President Obama take a little time to decide what to do about Aghanistan? She isn't very smart.

Grant   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Must be genetic.....following her father's tired approach of wanting to keep Americans cowering in fear in hopes they will vote for the GOP to somehow "keep them safe". Does she not have anything new or refreshing to bring to the table? Aside from this crazy "fear factor", it seems the GOP has no other policy platform, other than saying NO to any new idea or policy approach. I would like to think that most Americans are smarter than what the GOP would assume. We don't live in fear, except perhaps of another GOP administration.

ThinkAgain   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

And if anyone had said and done these things about Bush when he was president, Cheney would have called them anti-American, unpatriotic and on the side of the terrorists.

It's just too obvious that Cheney does not care about our country. Liz, Dick and all the rest only care about their party and the power and wealth they can accumulate.

So transparently hypocritical!

debbie   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Ahh the good old Republican rallying cry: "Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!".

Jane/Seattle   October 13th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

We really are in bad shape with this lady speaking at every turn. hey, you folks had your chance to mangle government as your mantra dictates, (ya know, government bad, capitalists good)! Now how about letting some of us on Main Street speak on your elite TV's? We never get heard, but then again that is the motive, Right? We only get to be heard when we get so far down, it could take an act of WE The Peoples to fix this mess WAll Street has made. Hmmm? When we screw up our finances, Bush made it very dificult for us to file bankruptcy, all in collusion with majorities of Congress! Wall Street employs complete FRAUD to enrich some few and WE the Poor and Middle Class get to Bail them out! What a Crock! Now to answer the question. Ms. Cheney, you and your hitmen are becoming irrelevant to us! The gig is up and we all are coming to see the joke that you have turned America into for your personal aggrandizement! See your way to retirement, please!

Cheney did a great job of keeping American safe... well, except for that ONE time.

Ron   October 13th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

Why are both sides so afraid of opposing views. Doesn't everyone understand that we are weaker without differing views? Needing everyone to agree with you (or your party's) point of view only exposes your fear and weakness, not that of the opposing party.

Grow up everyone!

Chuck   October 13th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

And she is an expert why? Being a member of the golden sperm club only assures you were born with your head up your butt, it does give you significant insight into foreign policy matters.

Dan @ CA   October 13th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

I think anyone with the last name of Cheney should strongly consider staying out of the foreign policy arena for the next several decades. The last thing we need is war mongers having a voice in this country's foreign policy. She has voiced support for her father's service against this country, so I don't think she needs to be involved in public policy in any way shape or form.

Gary   October 13th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

If memory serves me right, Bush & Cheney were the ones who started both wars, didn't find any weapons of mass distruction, and failed to finish just about anything they started. Why don't they all give up and go away until the next election; just keep quiet, stop the fear mongering, and go away.

Robert   October 13th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

The Bush/Cheney foreign policy was a complete fiasco - costing thousands of American lives in unnecessary wars (and tens of thousands of Iraqis), alientating our friends, motivating and empowering our enemies, costing billions that could have been saved or spent in this country....the list goes on, and on. Liz Cheney is as wacky as her old man.

ThinkAgain   October 13th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

The Republican Party is lost ... their leaders are bereft of ideas ... they rely on fear-mongering, division and hate to further their agenda ... they have proven they care only about acquiring wealth and power ... they have done their utmost to decimate the Middle Class and aggressively shift money to the wealthy through their irresponsible tax cuts ...

They are arrogant. They are self-righteous. They care only about themselves. They trample the Constitution. They proclaim "values" while holding up as admirable people willing to debase public discourse, lie, quit and cheat.

The Republican Party is pathetic!

The Film Professor   October 13th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Yeah, right Liz, and that's why Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last week.

You don't "keep American safe" by having everyone in the world hate you–same as a corporation cannot grow and prosper if all of its' employees hate the company and the way it treats them.

Gary   October 13th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

How fitting that Cheney hides behind his daughter's skirts to attack Obama. He wasn't man enough to serve his country, but arrogant enough to send other people's children into a vain glorious war.

JAC   October 13th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

As frightening as it is to concede, the truth is that people like Liz Cheney and her father are able to wield undue influence over the hearts and minds of the american people through their fear mongering tactics. However what frightens me even more is the fact that sane logical people who see through the lies of people like the Cheney's are remaining silent. It is this silence that is letting the fear mongers win. II thought when this nation elected Obama it signaled a decision to no longer let national policy be dictated by fear and greed, i hope that is still true.

Deb (long island)   October 13th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Liz I guess this self righteousness runs in the family and unfortunately for you is an inherited trait. Who cares what your feelings are? It is becoming quite clear the Cheneys are self indulgent people who feel they have the power to do anything they want and get away with it. Your father will never, ever win a prize as prestigious as our President did. Your father was seen throughout the world, as the evil, pompous ass that he is! Go away Liz Cheney. Go take care of daddy. Go get him ready for trial when Eric Holder looks to punish the atrocities committed these past 8 years. We are doing just fine without the likes of any Cheney in the White House and aim to keep it that way!

ThinkAgain   October 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

The only reason anyone pays attention to Liz is because of her last name. Her father is a disgrace and a moron.

- How else do you explain him ignoring all the intelligence about al Qaeda the Clinton transition team tried to give him?

- How else do you explain him ignoring the August 6, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing entitled, "Al Qaeda Determined to Attack the U.S. Using Airplanes"?

- How else do you explain him trampling the Constitution by using torture when everyone knows it doesn't give reliable intelligence.

- How else do you explain this Chickenhawk's attitude about war?

The Cheneys are a bunch of losers!

James B   October 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Anti american, use that like you used it on those who opposed Bush/Cheney, Look into a mirror before you speak

Diana Powe   October 13th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Those Cheneys just can't get enough of their fear. Plainly, Francis Scott Key didn't have them in mind when he wrote that line in the "Star-Spangled Banner" about the "home of the brave." No, Americans must be "patriotic" and be afraid of all the boogey-men that the fear-mongers are terrified of.

In addition, I find Alexander Mooney's sentence here rather telling, "The new group, Keep America Safe, says its aim is to provide a cogent and organized rebuttal to a series of recent moves that expressly divert from the MORE MUSCULAR POLICIES of the Bush administration." (emphasis added) Plainly, he has at least subconsciously bought into the whole Beltway group-think that characterizes nations and their leaders as "strong" (read masculine) and "weak" (read feminine). Well, for Mr. Mooney's benefit, let me offer another common use for the root word "muscle" in American parlance-"muscle head"-as in powerful, but stupid. That would be the "more muscular policies of the Bush administration" for you.

dave   October 13th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

i wonder who is pulling her strings.?!!!

GP   October 13th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

Since when does a private group get to influence foreign policy? Is this really what free speech is about?

It is obvious that Liz Cheney is simply a proxy for her father, who did not hold an elected position in the first place.

Honestly, the republicans need to start working with this administration and offer solutions rather than continually try to sabotage this administration. I clearly remember how dissenters were handled by the previous administration. Perhaps it is time Obama start using some of the Bush/Cheney tactics on his opponents.

Weren't BOTH wars on BUSH/CHENEY's WATCH and they both FAILED to finish the FIRST one – Afghanistan – before picking a fight and starting the SECOND war with IRAQ???

This country is no less safe than it was under BUSH. Actually, it may be MORE SAFE now because changes are seen WORLDWIDE and we are once again recognized as a country with VALUES!!! VALUES do not make us LESS SAFE! – we STILL have the SAME security in PLACE that was in place under BUSH/CHENEY – Come on now, YOU KNOW THAT!! Jeez!

Fear-mongering is the base of the REPUBLI-CAN'Ts and they thrive on it so much – they don't know how to LET GO!!!!! Poor Things!!!!

an american first   October 13th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Liz Chaney should be ashamed of herself. This article is very hard to read. It makes me mad that there are people out there like Liz Chaney who goes out and directly imply that the President of the United Statesand the 65 million US Citizens who voted for this president does not care about national security.

Most troubling part of the article is when she said, "Obama administration has.... wavered on the war in Afghanistan....". Really? Really? And her name is Liz Chaney. Does she know that her dad's administration started this war in Afghanistan in 2001 and "wavered" for more than 7 years? I am surprised that she could keep the straight face while saying this.

She is wrong plain and simple....

IndyVoter   October 13th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

How convenient.... Liz, I want you to stand face to face and tell that crap to the grieving mothers of all of the sons and daughters that died in a fake war that was concocted to settle personal scores and enrich Mr. Cheney's & Rumsfeld's business buddies...tell that psycho-babble to Vets who lost limbs and who are no longer able to serve their country in Afghanistan or anywhere else because of your Dad's fake and failed defense policies. Please be quiet! You no nothing of which you speak. Do not misktake meekness for weakness. Or humility for stupidity. Pres. Obama is taking this country down a prudent and sustainable path unlike Mr. Bush. If given a chance you and your cohorts would have taken the United States down the same path as every other Imperialistic country who thought they could rule or run the world indefinately by sheer brute force! It doesn't last...see exhibit A. Roman Empire, B) Ottoman Empire C) Various European Empires D) Russian/Soviet Empire ...Thank God for Pres. Obama!

Have they ever been right about anything?

Bring em on Liz, you'll be a disgarce as your father. Two blind mice seeking a way out of the darkness.

Can anyone say the bigest mistake of the Bush presidency was having Mr. Iron-heart as VP? What a blunder, oh wait; Iron-heart was what caused Bush to be elected in the first place.

James Brooklny N.Y.   October 13th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

I mean Sarah Palin has reached stratusphere's of Extremely Dispicable, but Liz Cheney is close behind her.....

Can you imagine the world if Sarah Palin and Liz Cheney had their way....?

Adalbert   October 13th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

Liz is just as fanatic as her father. She knows absolutely nothing about nothing.

vicky from Milwaukee   October 13th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

LIke father, like daughter. Enough said.

fitz   October 13th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

This should not be taken seriously. Will she be highlighting the failures of the previous administration and some of the horrible foreign policy advice her father gave former President Bush, I don't think so.

Beyond Absurd   October 13th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

Who is Liz Cheney? What are her credentials with regard to foreign policy (or any type of policy) other than to be a mouth piece for her father's particular brand of paranoia and fear mongering. What type of father would use his daughter like this rather than standing up and taking responsibility for his own opinions? I guess the answer is a coward like Dick Cheney. Once a chicken hawk, always a chicken hawk.

say what   October 13th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Liz Cheney has about as much credibility as Barack Oblunder. Only in America could we vote for a person who has no executive experience and who's state (Ilinois) and city (Chicago) he represents is a crime ridden, corrupt hell hole. Good job Americans, we just voted our first step to oblivion.

Macadamia   October 13th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Why is Cheney still on the news, go away already. This name gives me nightmares.

itsmekapinatl   October 13th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

We are safe and have been safe. This is propaganda nonsense that has been indoctrinated into the mind set of simple minded people who live their lives in fear ;orchestrated by a former administration who perpetuated; "if you don't look like me, think like me, then you are a threat to me. Do the math; under the time of this current president's administration there has not been any known threats or attacks against the U.S. So, with that in mind, we have been kept safer under President Obama's time in office to date, than our former "village idiot"

AP in Illinois   October 13th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Liz Cheney is such an upatriotic traitor to criticize our President and the United States anti-terrorism efforts. You are either with us or against us. Apparently she is against us.

What happened to being unpatriotic when you criticize the President's foreign policy, especially when fighting terrorism? I guess that only applied to Non-Republicans during the Bush Administration. It seems that line of thinking suddenly changed on January 20th of this year. That makes total sense coming from the total hypocrites that the Republican party has become.

NVa Native   October 13th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Keep (Corporate) America Safe.
The attack of 2001 happened eight months into the Evil DIck's watch, we won't ever forget how he and Dubya abandoned/failed us to work on secret meetings with BIg Oil exes, health care lobbyists, foreign policy with Bechtel, KBR, Blackwater radical religious crusaders, and more meetings with only corporate interests.
She's as arrogant and ignorant as her father. And just as evil.

L Powers   October 13th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Cheney's not qualified to keep America safe. How many people has he killed so far by their recklessness beginning with the occupation of Irag whose people had never killed a single American.
God forbid he should be barred from power forever. Dick should be in prison with the rest of the ruthless killers.

Mary penland   October 13th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

If the majority of the people had wanted Mr Bush's tatics to continue, we would have voted for Mr McCain. Mr Obama is our (note OUR) president and we should not be daily in the business of reversing the election and trying to destroy Mr Obama's presidency. I predict that my great-grandchildren will probably live in a USA that is more like Iraq or Pakistan than the country we know today. I am afraid that someday there will be no orderly change of Presidents. If one party looses, it will continue to protest and protest and protest. Why bother voting?

The single most important positive in our foreign policy quagmire is that a recent Pakistani poll (gallup) shows that the support of the people for the Pakistani Army going after the Taliban has increased from 29% to 58% over the past 2 years. Since OBL lives there, this is our best hope for continuing pressure on his capture/assasination. Be interested to hear Liz Cheney's opinion on why taking some bold action such as invading Pakistan would bring better results than Pakistani public support......trying to defend the Bush.Cheney foreign policy as a success story is impossible. It was a dismal failure, primarily because it dis-regarded the opionions of the people of the countries that we invaded or considered invading. The Nobel committee had it correct. "Peace is a state of mind, not a piece of paper".

RJ- GA.   October 13th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

She is only known, because of her father. Tell me Liz, didn't 911 happen on your father's watch ? Tell me how now the Republocans going to keep us safe ? There will be no more non-competive bids for Haliburton, first be in foreign service, before you can give an opinion ! Not just hired to work in government, because of nepotism !!!

Why a reply at all. I forgot, her political contribution to policy making is what? She's the representative to what state? Senator? Governor? Oh I forgot, she's LIZ CHENEY. Name recognition alone should get attention right? Cause we're not at all concerned with star power in America. At any rate, who cares what she's spearheading. It's obvious the gene pool left her with an IQ of several standard deviations lower than low average. Why is her name on this website at all? Let's cover REAL news, alright, back to business. Health Care, Afghanistan, Nuclear proliferation/non-proliferation, Energy, Global Warming..........

Whenever she comes on any talk show I end up having to turn channels because her rudeness and know-it-all attitude are just too hard to watch. She constantly cuts off the other quests on the show especially if they are challenging something she has said. Did her parents not teach her any manners? She sounds like a town hall yeller. She will not even listen to the other side of the issue which she comes by honestly enough. The apple didn't fall far from the tree on this one. If she ever decides to run for office, it will be so easy for her opponents to find tons of clips showing that she is certainly Dick Cheney 2.

Tony   October 13th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

ltl lulu   October 13th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

I think Ms. Cheney should be watched VERY closely! She is hanging on SO tight to the fact that their ideas are so much better on foreign policy, that I CAN ACTUALLY SEE them fabricating some sort of CATASTROPHY to make their point. If you think these evil people are concerned about the safety of everyday Americans, I am afraid you would be wrong. The only thing they care about it is gaining their power back by ANY means possible!! REALLY SCARY!!

more nuts to feed the squirrels. lets see, four attacks diverted just last week. Iraq standing on its own and happy about it. Pakistan fighting terrorists instead of helping them. every nation in the world regaining respect for us. Thinking about how to jump into the fight instead of just jumping in and getting thousands of our troops killed. And the most important, Not spending all the tax payers money in other countries and spending it on the American people because we're loosing our jobs and our homes due to poor management and greed in favor of the elite and rich that the republican GOstoPo has been in favor of for the last century. I am so glad the republican party is about to cease to exist. It's crumbling beneath thier feet and their too stupid and greedy to see why.

AEK   October 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

You know what Ms. Cheney, I'm not concerned or dismayed by the President's disciplined approach to foreign policy in general, and specifically to the wars in which your father and President Bush got us involved. Their approach was to disregard all the intelligence and recommendations from the Defense and State Departments and commit our young heroic men and women to a vendetta in Iraq, and by virtue of that, ignore the real war on terrorism being waged in Afghanistan. Your vile rhetoric is disingenuous at the very least and un American when using the standards your father and his gang of thugs used to criticize their detractors. You can't have it both ways, unless of course, you are a Republican hypocrite!

once upon a horse   October 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

looks like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree with Liz Cheney...these folks act like they WISH the country would be attacked just so they can say "I told you so"! Reggie Wynn   October 13th, 2009 12:17 pm ET

Liz Cheney comment and concerns are so incredibly disingenuous. Her only intention is to gain notoriety within the political and media arena. President Bush’s national security policies were a detriment not only to the United States prestige but to world peace as well. She should have been concerned with the neglect the Bush administration provided Afghanistan. We lost valuable momentum over the last years. Also torture is torture and should never be condoned by terrorist or the CIA. Present some serious concerns – minus the political noise and someone other than the far Right might listen.

Why are the Cheneys not getting the message? The majority of this country does not feel that the last eight years of the Bush Cheney administration was successful and thus the election of Barack Obama. The majority of the world felt that America's foreign policy was a failure and thus Barack Obama was granted the Nobel Peace Prize for simply speaking of a different direction.

I also love how these types of people use the public's respect for the military to say things when, if you check their records (and you can check all the Cheney's records) every one of them dodged military service like it was the Black Plague.

"Keep America Safe". Sounds good. But where were you, Liz Cheney, when your father orchestrated the greatest false flag op in history? Oh, that's right! Basking in the profits of war, along with your father and his Haliburton, et al, cronies. Cheney & Friends don't want to keep America safe! They want to keep the status quo safe. War equals profits. But most Americans want OUT of these wars – which do NOT keep America safe – and that means the Cheney's and their evil allies lose their funding. That is ALL they care about. period. This ain't no Liberal talking either. Just someone who took Eisenhowers departing words seriously.

Jay T.   October 13th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

We got what we asked for with Bush by electing him two terms. Now we are getting what we asked for with Obama, pretty speeches with him thinking he is the biggest celebrity ever. I love the arguments between repubs and dems though. Repubs argue the guy is dumb, obviously not since he was smart enough to know how to get elected. (Although being from the opposite party of Bush was probably the biggest factor). Dems argue this guy has accomplished so much already. What has he accomplished? Really? NOTHING. And for once I agree with a Cheney, scary.

Told you this guy wasn't going away!

Obama Victim   October 13th, 2009 11:59 am ET

Obama supporter   October 13th, 2009 11:59 am ET

You lost. Go away.

Michael M, Phoenix AZ   October 13th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Another "non-profit" organization? Wonder who will get the big bucks off of this one. More undermining tactics by the Cheney clan? He didn't get enough of it when he was VP?

c in ca   October 13th, 2009 11:57 am ET

I cannot stand that woman!

Carl   October 13th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Liz Cheney worked for the federal government during the years her father was Vice President. Can you spell it? N-E-P-O-T-I-S-M... Before becoming VP, Dick Cheney was employed by Haliburton. Can you spell it? N-O B-I-D C-O-N-T-R-A-C-T... It would seem to an outside observer that the Cheneys love to enrich themselves and their friends...at a cost borne exclusively by the American taxpayer.

Dale   October 13th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Liz, why don't you run for president since your poor shooting dad helped ruin GWB's presidency?

unshrub   October 13th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I guess if you are the son or daughter of a VP that makes you a foreign police expert.

Moderate Democrat   October 13th, 2009 11:56 am ET

The Cheney's version of keeping america safe involves letting 3000 people die in New York, Shooting Friends and torturing people at random over seas on foreign bases.

No thanks bimbo! Unlike the unpatriotic five time draft dodging Cheney's, the rest of us have pride and honor. Go suck an egg you worthless bag of hot air, and please torture your dad for us!

Willy Brown   October 13th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Go Liz!

Enough   October 13th, 2009 11:54 am ET

After 9/11 Bush/Cheney kept us safe in our country. Not feeling to safe now that the new apologetic and sympathetic to the terrorists administration is in charge. Sorry, I have ZERO sympathy for the discomfort of the terrorists that killed thousands.................we should have done more. Heck, they'll just chop off our heads and Obama can invite them over for tea and make sure they are comfortable. What a weak and wimpy country we are becoming.............and everyone else knows it.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   October 13th, 2009 11:54 am ET

What an idiot..... she'd rather live under the Bush/Cheney regime of lies and secret government.... shut her up.

Frank, Las Vegas   October 13th, 2009 11:53 am ET

Haven't we had enough of this fruit cake who's only goal is to keep daddy out of jail. Like the old saying, if her lips are moving, she's lying.

Danny   October 13th, 2009 11:53 am ET

So Liz is as ludacris as her senile, neo-Nazi father. Apples really don't fall far from the GOP tree. :)

ICARE   October 13th, 2009 11:51 am ET
