Liz Cheney gets serious with Obama foreign policy attacks

Liz Cheney and her father have been among the most forceful conservative critics of President Obama's foreign policy.
Liz Cheney and her father have been among the most forceful conservative critics of President Obama's foreign policy.

(CNN) - Months after her father's prolonged campaign against President Obama's national security policies, Liz Cheney is spearheading a new organization aimed at organizing conservative opposition to the new administration's foreign policy approach.

The new group, Keep America Safe, says its aim is to provide a cogent and organized rebuttal to a series of recent moves that expressly divert from the more muscular policies of the Bush administration. The group plans to tackle hot-button issues like the way forward in Iraq and Afghanistan, defense spending, CIA interrogation techniques and the planned closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

"We have watched with concern and dismay as the Obama administration has cut defense spending, wavered on the war in Afghanistan, and launched investigations into Americans serving on the front lines of the war on terror, while at the same time expanding legal protections for the terrorists that plot to attack this country," Cheney, along with the group's two other founders, wrote on its Web site. "These policies, along with President Obama's abandonment of America's allies and attempts to appease our adversaries are weakening the nation."

Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol and Debra Burlingame, the sister of the pilot of American Airlines Flight 77 - the flight that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11 - are also heading up the new effort.

The new group says its goal is to focus media attention on continuing and emerging national security threats, and marshal grassroots opposition to the president's policies.

Why are the Cheneys not getting the message? The majority of this country does not feel that the last eight years of the Bush Cheney administration was successful and thus the election of Barack Obama. The majority of the world felt that America's foreign policy was a failure and thus Barack Obama was granted the Nobel Peace Prize for simply speaking of a different direction.

Proving once again that nuts don't fall far from the tree! Another Cheney with a totally warped sense of reality and no clear vision about what it means to be a good person or a good American.

    Best of luck!

Who cares what she thinks?? The Republicans have been proven WRONG at every turn, why would we put any stock in what these war mongers have to say?

The world is still waiting for Republicans to admit that when they speak of 'values' they speak of lying to wage a war, killing innocent civilians, and torturing children. Once Republicans admit these are truly their 'values', then we can talk about their 'Keep America Safe' website.

Liz Cheney comment and concerns are so incredibly disingenuous. Her only intention is to gain notoriety within the political and media arena. President Bush’s national security policies were a detriment not only to the United States prestige but to world peace as well. She should have been concerned with the neglect the Bush administration provided Afghanistan. We lost valuable momentum over the last years. Also torture is torture and should never be condoned by terrorist or the CIA. Present some serious concerns – minus the political noise and someone other than the far Right might listen.

Sigh... like father, like daughter, and in this case, mother, too. Shills for corruption and big business. She's lucky she doesn't have to visit her father in jail since he should be serving time for all his crooked activities.

How can anybody with half a brain take her seriously?
If her name was Smith, nobody except her father would care.

looks like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree with Liz Cheney...these folks act like they WISH the country would be attacked just so they can say "I told you so"! Liz should go help her sister open her agency and work at obtaining equal rights for gays..something worthwhile than running off at the mouth with very little worthwhile to say. Or is she bucking for her on show on FoxNews?

You know what Ms. Cheney, I'm not concerned or dismayed by the President's disciplined approach to foreign policy in general, and specifically to the wars in which your father and President Bush got us involved. Their approach was to disregard all the intelligence and recommendations from the Defense and State Departments and commit our young heroic men and women to a vendetta in Iraq, and by virtue of that, ignore the real war on terrorism being waged in Afghanistan. Your vile rhetoric is disingenuous at the very least and un American when using the standards your father and his gang of thugs used to criticize their detractors. You can't have it both ways, unless of course, you are a Republican hypocrite!

The right seems to wonder why Obama won the Nobel. Well after 8 years of GWB and Richard Cheney, Obama's foreign policy is a breath of fresh air.

she appears to be a bright woman, but if she believes the b.s. that he father throws out, then she has no credibility. I believe Dick Chaney should be tried for war crimes. And did he ever find the WMD's that are hidden in his closet?*

Her father is crazy and she has no place to talk when her father nearly caused the third world war and Obama is actually healing the US relationship with the world.

She has as much credibility as Sarah Palin. And to those who say Obama has accomplished nothing let me remind you that he has provided something that the Bush Chaney bunch of war profiterers and criminals never did and that is HOPE.. That alone is worth everything.
