The RNC has apparently changed the name of Michael Steele's blog.
The RNC has apparently changed the name of Michael Steele's blog.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - After an initial round of Internet mockery, the Republican National Committee has apparently decided to drop "What Up?" as the title of Michael Steele's blog on the newly revamped GOP.com.

One day after the rollout of the site, which crashed repeatedly throughout the day Wednesday and was ridiculed by Democrats and Republicans alike, Steele's blog is now called "Change the Game."

There's still only one post so far on the blog, a short entry that asks readers to answer the question, "Why are you a Republican?"

steele is such an embarrassement both to himself and the republican party. i can just imagine how these old white men and women that have always been racist are freaking out on this token of a republican. he has shown such poor judgement in his new title that even republicans are gritting there teeth at what he does and says.
republicans need to remember to be careful what they wish for because they just might get it. steele should feel grateful to barack obama because he is the only reason steele was ever given his job. such a token he is!

Allen   October 14th, 2009 11:51 am ET

"Change the game?" well, at least the republicans are now admitting that they are playing games. It's time for someone to get serious, and apparently it's not the republicans.

The Real Tom Paine   October 14th, 2009 11:50 am ET

More hip-hop, out-of -the-box thinking from our political mastermind?

Robert J   October 14th, 2009 11:50 am ET

So now the leader of the party of No wants to campaign for "change"-Strat with his attitude-chnage from negative to positive and get Boneheads Boehner, McConnel, Graham, and all their braindead deciples to "change" also. They might even like particpating in a positive way for "positive change" – How refreshing and good for our country, and lives might that be?

Bert King   October 14th, 2009 11:47 am ET

Try Try if you will but you Republicans are still going down Hill.......you don't have the people to run your Party in a positive direction.......you have to many loud mouth conservatives......with no ideas they only know how to run this President down......Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Palin, all those in Congress that won't work with this administration and say NO to everything.....now you have Chaneys daughter promoting more War and the policies of her father.......this right here will cause the GOP to CRASH....we voted Bush?Chaney out remember because of the way they handled this country and now she is pushing for more of the same........come on give us a break, do you think this country has forgotten....Chaney is more of a Hitler than any Democrat.........

Proud Boulder Liberal   October 14th, 2009 11:45 am ET

Hello Mr. Steele:

I am not a Republican. I am a Democrat, a liberal–and proud of it!

Many of the GOP "values" have become superficial platitudes. And sure, "fiscal responsibility" is quite laudable, but the GOP abandoned that "value" under Reagan.

Mr. Steele, I think you would be much happier being a Democrat! Join us!

Jessie   October 14th, 2009 11:44 am ET

I know what's not up. His IQ.

Eric R   October 14th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Steel gets on my last nerve, he wants to relate to the urban youth in America so bad, but he can never relate because in our eyes he is a sale out! See… it is one thing to be white and not care about minorities, we are use to that, it is another to be a minority and cater to the people who would rather see you dead then see you actually be successful. Just because they use you as their puppet now, doesn’t mean they won’t use you for fire wood after the show.

Dave   October 14th, 2009 11:41 am ET

As a former Young Republican, I also ask not only who is Republican, but WHY vote Republican? From "I'm not a crook" to "Read my Lips No New Taxes" to Smoking Guns and Mushroom Clouds, Republicans are LIARS. In 1980 I was proud to cast my first vote at 18 for Ronald Reagan. It took 20 years to learn that wasnt warm water "Trickling Down" upon me from above. Republicans hurt our People, our Families...our COUNTRY. Moral of the story? NEVER VOTE REPUBLICAN!

CHARLES E MONELL   October 14th, 2009 11:40 am ET

The RNC has to be beyond desparate to select Michael Steele as their leader. During the last election, when he was running for reelection, he and his cohort Erlichman (a freudian slip) Erlich brought homeless men from Philadelphia to Maryland and gave them flyers tohand out on election day. Funny thing, both Erlich and Steele were on the handout as democrats. They only fooled themselves since the real democratic candidate won the election.

Jay T.   October 14th, 2009 11:40 am ET

What up with dat, Steelio!

Frank, Las Vegas   October 14th, 2009 11:40 am ET

All I can say is, Steele's an idiot! He spreads hate and lies and that seems to be the entire republican game plan instead of coming up with Real ideas and plans. So it's the same old story (new web site or not), when you don't have anything to offer, spread hate and lies. The American public have seen this before and have rejected it. The GOP is only preaching to their base, 20% of the American people.

Ya know, that's a sign of insanity, when you keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different outcome. Of course the GOP can't recognize that either, which is another sign. Good luck with that.

Dennis Castanares   October 14th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Michael Steele is obviously a mole, a Democrat infiltrator! Stupendous undercover work-all the while he's destroying the GOP from within with almost daily public embarassments, here we all were, taken in, thinking he's just another Republican incompetent!
Subtle, those Commie pinko Osama-loving Dems.

Anti_Limbaugh   October 14th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Steele's blog is now called "What Up Yours" :P

lysheen   October 14th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Michael Steele, aka Mr. Token, please stop trying to be cool, and just be yourself. Liberals laugh at you when you try and portray yourself as "urban", and conservatives cringe. When you try to be something you are so obviously not, you're only going to set yourself up of ridicule.

Jnywest   October 14th, 2009 11:32 am ET

One ought to check out the hero's section of the GOP page. There is not one person on their list that is alive today, and people who would probably not be in the republican party as it is today. Such as Fredrick Douglas, etc...

brutus   October 14th, 2009 11:31 am ET

good question

ANDROLOMA, Commerce City, Colorado   October 14th, 2009 11:29 am ET

A Republican trusts his representative in Congress.

A Democrat should want every issue voted upon.

The rest of us just want an end to class elitism, and to go back to work.

"What up?" is still bad English, no matter how colloquial.

Steph   October 14th, 2009 11:29 am ET

I can't wait to see how the RNC's response to the DOW nearing 10,000. It must be some sort of socialist plot! Or they will give W credit for solving Obama's "failed policies" or some other such nonsense.

Dave D   October 14th, 2009 11:28 am ET

Lets talk about McDonnell having a 9 point lead in Virginia CNN. Of course they won't. That would help a Republican.

LoLo   October 14th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Michael Steele is a joke. He is an embarassment to republicans and democrats alike. He needs to go crawl in a hole and never come out.

david, CA   October 14th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Steele's question should've been "Why are you STILL a Republican?"

Republicanism is an act of faith for some who want to believe in a party that was once upon a time committed to conservative principles, but has been taken over by CINOs (Conservatives In Name Only) who during the reign of Bush ran up the biggest deficits in history, torn asunder our Constitution, gone to war on the basis of lies, and have ravaged our economy and our planet in the process.

J.Crobuzon   October 14th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Yeah, what up wid dat, bro? Did RNC Chairman Limbaugh decide it was too "ghetto?"

Dave D   October 14th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Amazing. When the Republican had a double digit lead, CNN never mentioned the race in NJ. Now it's tied, and it's a story.

ralph   October 14th, 2009 11:24 am ET

Do we really need to comment. Michael Steele needs to hold firm to what he REALLY believes in. I am a democrat and feel that he has made valid points. He needs to stick to his beliefs (no matter how aligned to the democratic view on issues), and stop caving in. He has become a complete embarrassment. As a democrat, I don't mind, as an African American – this guy is a joke!!! Sorry to say, his demeanor is quite, dear I say, "Tommish." He is like a fish out of water, gasping for air.

lachristo   October 14th, 2009 11:23 am ET

He's a comedian and the idea of he being a GOP chairman is just a comedy at best.

Question: Why – according to Republicans – is the American auto industry in trouble?

Answer: Because they are paying their workers too much!

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   October 14th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Steele sounds like he has been trying to gain "street cred." Just goes to show that they are nothing but a bunch of gangsters... deceitful scum who will sacrifice any values for their agenda.

And they claim to be the party that speaks for "god." Many Christians and Republicans are ignorant fools who do not have a clue how they appear to others with their blatant hypocrisy.

JOBLESS IN IOWA   October 14th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Steele is just another JOKE. WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

Terry from West Texas   October 14th, 2009 11:19 am ET

I'm curious about why middle class voters choose to be Republicans myself. Why do they continue, year after year, decade after decade, voting for people who want to destroy the middle class.

After all, Conservatives have OPPOSED every workplace safety regulation, the 8 hour day, the 40 hour week, equal pay for women, laws against sexual harassment at the workplace, EVERY increase or improvement in workplace benefits. ANY regulation of corporations including banks (are you enjoying the recession?), Social Security (they're still opposed and would kill it if they could), Medicare (ditto), Medicaid (ditto), EVERY water, air, and soil anti-pollution law, and EVERY tax (as if the government can run at a deficit forever).

The rich are skinning the middle class alive, and Conservative voters are enabling them. Why?

caprice classic   October 14th, 2009 11:19 am ET

As usual the Republicans and GOP have no clear message or leader for their party. That is why they are the "Party of No"; no agenda, no leader, no bipartenship, no plan, no bill, no how, no way, no minorities, no ideas, no compromise, no American support, and no positive attitude towards towards their country or the president

Jefe   October 14th, 2009 11:18 am ET

LOL! This is the first I heard of it, and I'm shocked that this article isn't just a joke! The man the GOP put up as their blatant "we have a black guy too" ploy, names his blog "what up?"?!! HAHAHA What a dork, loser, sellout.

With any degree of luck it will go down forever!

mjm   October 14th, 2009 11:16 am ET

CNN, are you trying to slam the site because it's the RNC? I've got to be honest, I didn't see any problem with the site when I got there. There were plenty of posts under Steel's blog. I don't see a problem with "Change the Game" or "What's Up". The content was very interesting. I made a donation. Great site.

Will you be slamming the DNC site as well? Or just the Republican sites?

Ken from missouri   October 14th, 2009 11:15 am ET

The G.O.P just doesn't get it it's not about looking hip it's about what you do for the american people and for the last 8 years you made life bad for us now americans have a short memory so if your party would have a plan to show the american people we would look at it but as long as rush limbaugh ,glenn beck and sean hannity run your party you will never win the big ones.

Rob Johnson   October 14th, 2009 11:15 am ET

"Change The Game" is supposed to be better? Seriously?

Does Michael Steele have a "Dictionary of Cheesy Cliches" that he is using to pick a name for his blog?

I'm still amazed that "What Up?" made it through the process at all. You know that at least 10 people signed off on that, and every single one of them should be fired immediately.

GREG PENN   October 14th, 2009 11:15 am ET

The question they should ask is, Why are you no longer a Republican.

ANGIE IN PA   October 14th, 2009 11:14 am ET

What a Joke that Web-Site is hahaha lol, cant run the country cant run a website. the Republicans have become a complete joke

cfrench   October 14th, 2009 11:13 am ET

I think it's fairly clear that the RNC had not the slightest idea that by trying to be hip and cool in an attempt to appeal to minorities, they ended up insulting them instead. The fact that Steele, himself a black man, did not realize the affront speaks VOLUMES about how out of touch the RNC is. Is it any wonder they deny their inherent racist tendencies? Maybe Steele should rename his blog "Uncle Tom".

Angry white guy minority where be my check   October 14th, 2009 11:12 am ET

The GOP has had to change its persona to try and get the educated and intelligent Black, Hispanic and other socially classified minorities to wake up and join. The left continues to cry racism around the GOP to keep the block votes that keep them in power, angry white guys? When that specific segment of society is excessively taxed into paying to carry the remainder of the populus, it should be easy for even the idiots to understand the anger, it isn't really color specific. Life isn't fair, you work for what you get, and there is NO FREE LUNCH. These are the basis of Conservative ideals that our elected elitists have seem to forgotten...

republicans need to give it up – the party is a mess – they are no longer relevant -= there is no way they can change – they are stuck in the past, and we are moving forward without them. Bad idea for Steele to first use racial slang for his blog title, worse in acknowledging everything is a "game" to the GOPPERS with the second title.

Kent in CA   October 14th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Let's see...
1. They couldn't even put up a website that works.
2. They use a racial coloquilism in the title.
3. They use a title that is grammatically incorrect.
4. And nobody pays attention.

Mr. Steele, your job was the 'rebranding' of the GOP. This looks like a dismal marketing campaign if you ask me. The next time you fault the president for something that was not completely successful (like the Chicago Olympics bid), you should remember the quality of your own efforts. I would fire a person that worked for me if this is the best he can do.

jasongar   October 14th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Lynne   October 14th, 2009 10:56 am ET

The choice of "What Up.." just shows how disconnected Steele is from the black community,,,the title was strerotypical and pandering at best. "Change the Game" is almost as silly!!

The GOP is so funny! You can't make this stuff up. Pure entertainment! Keep it coming!

Norm   October 14th, 2009 10:53 am ET

This is typical of the party of No. Too little too late. What's next, a hip-hop video showing Steele, Beck, Limbaugh et al? You don't attract followers by copying someone else's ideas, you attract followers by having real answers to the country's issues. It's embarrasing to see the GOP trying to attract the young intelligent voters with this kind of nonsense. Norm from New Mexico.

Tek   October 14th, 2009 10:50 am ET

Using urban slang in anyway will not help the Republican party attract minority support. It's amazing because Steele and the Republican Com. are educated but they come up with some of the dumbest ideas. The truth is, they're gonna have to change a lot of their policies to attract new voters.

Independent against Repubs   October 14th, 2009 10:50 am ET

Steele is such a dumb puppet.

RN   October 14th, 2009 10:49 am ET

If they want to change the game they need to find a leader who is willing to do some work and not just complain. They want what they want and they want it now – just like a 2 year old. This is the same old game – maybe they can change things by yelling louder. Maybe they can be insulting and make up lies and change the game.
or not.
The republicans may eventually learn that life is hard – it's a lot harder when you're stupid.

pinkette   October 14th, 2009 10:48 am ET

Micheal Steele believes that Obama's appeal comes from his "black hippness and street popularity". This is why he tries to compete by using titles like "what up" on his blog. But Obama is not popular because of his hippness. Obama is an intellectual and a likable guy. A lot of blacks like him becuase he does not display embarassing steryotypical behavior the way Micheal Steele does. Steele's attempt at hippness is embarrasing to educated black people.

TLDSR   October 14th, 2009 10:47 am ET

The Republican Party is a disgrace and abomination. There is something putrid about these guys and gals. The Republican Parties of past decades did not make me want to shower after I hear or see them speak on issues. I think it may have started with the Newt Gingrich Crew a few years back.

Jackie in Dallas   October 14th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Good. Number one, we have enough people in this country who cannot speak or write decent English - we don't need to have people to make it worse. Number two, it underlines the fact that no matter what the color of his skin, Steele is not black!

Reagan was wrong   October 14th, 2009 10:43 am ET

If it's Michael Steele, shouldn't the question be "Why you Republican, dawg?"

annie s   October 14th, 2009 10:42 am ET

I'm a Republican because I'm selfish, self-centered and don't care about helping my fellow man. I DO want to make sure that the rich get richer, that the big corporations are who really governs America and that the working classes have no say in anything. I'm against the government offering Americans a choice in their health care, but I believe government should get in between a woman and her doctor when it comes to her own body. Did I leave anything out?

Dominican mama 4 Obama   October 14th, 2009 10:38 am ET

It is not even grammatically correct for God's sakes. What was he trying to do sound like one of the 'brothers' from the hood? Remind people that regardless of what comes out of his idiotic mouth he is 'one of us'? Trying to gather the college vote under his teepee? Or wait, maybe he didn't realize that it was in fact grammatically incorrect, and an inappropriate way for someone in his 'position' to express himself. He needs to pay closer attention to our POTUS in regards to how to speak and conduct himself in public. Buffoon.

Dave   October 14th, 2009 10:36 am ET

To answer his question, "Why am I a Republican":

1) Because I have no morals
2) Because I like to lie
3) Because money is more important to me than people

Stephen Matthews   October 14th, 2009 10:36 am ET

I'm a liberal democrat, but if someone, anyone, within the republican party would stand up to extreme wing of the GOP I would consider listening to them. Until then I will consider the GOP a hate group sympathizer.

And now, Steele copies President Obama's message of change (again). "What up" with that? LOL

Karen   October 14th, 2009 10:31 am ET

The GOP just can't seem to get their act together. One minute, they're pulling distasteful tweets off their twitter (the one comparing Pelosi to Hitler), the next minute they're changing the titles of their blogs. They are so desparate to get someone, ANYone to like them, they are scrambling every minute. They have no action plan, no agenda, no leadership, just silly rants, smear and fear tactics, aimed at doing nothing but distort and divide the country. The GOP has become the party of LOONS.

They have chosen extremism over integrity, honor and what they have been elected to do which is represent us and our country.
And become bigger misguided fools every day.

Michael Steele's next headline will be "Yes we can – again"

What's up with this clown? Can't he come up with an original thought?

"Change" Yes, we had to change from the fail policies of GOP; the total waste of tax payers dollars to support their war machine and invasion of Iraq.

Ok Michael! Here's an original: "Mission Accomplished with hate"

D. Tree   October 14th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Its should have been called "Changing My Mind Every Second"

The GOP is in total disarray because they have no new ideas, and when someone with a new idea comes along they all gang up and bash them.

Just look what happens to Lindsey Graham and Meghan McCain. If they so much as waver from what the radicals in their party want, they are called names and threatened.

You be da man   October 14th, 2009 10:20 am ET

The RNC has apparently changed the name of Michael Steele's blog.
What Up!!! LOL .....Steele you are soooo Special !!!

MC Randolph Carter   October 14th, 2009 10:16 am ET

He should have called it "what up dog?" in keeping with the republican party's new off da hook hip-hop theme. Have a nice day!

Stephen Matthews   October 14th, 2009 10:16 am ET

I have an idea for the republicans. Abandon the extreme and often hateful tone created by Fox News, Glenn Beck, Rush, Congresswoman Bachmann and some of the other extremist withing the right wing and adopt a rational, civil and broadbased approach at becoming the party that Abraham Lincoln would be proud of.

The more extreme they become the further away they are from returning to power. They have become an embarrassment to any thinking conservative.

Tim from Tampa   October 14th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Mr Steele... Please crawl back under your rock. Your 15 minutes are up and you are embarrassing yourself.

CR   October 14th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Epic fail. No substance left in the Republican Party. Plenty of hatred, greed, and hypocracy though.

Big Ed   October 14th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Mr. Steele, maybe there is a message here that you need to pay attention to.

Republicans are a joke!   October 14th, 2009 10:13 am ET

Steele is such an idiot just like his party!

ATL Guy   October 14th, 2009 10:10 am ET

I think the answer to the Why Are You a Republican question is obvious: it's because you're an idiot. Can't get any simpler than that.

Lila   October 14th, 2009 10:10 am ET

I think they would probably benefit more from asking the question "Why are you NOT a republican?"

Ron   October 14th, 2009 10:09 am ET

One of many Republican idiots.
