Meghan McCain says she's ready to quit twitter after a photograph she posted caused a wave of criticism

(CNN) Meghan McCain says she's ready to quit Twitter all together after generating a wave of criticism from users of the popular social networking site Wednesday night for posting a picture of herself in a tank top that left little to the twitterverse's imagination.

The controversy began quietly enough when McCain, the vocal daughter of the former Republican presidential candidate, tweeted that her self described "spontaneous" night in included reading a biography of the iconic artist Andy Warhol and ordering takeout.

It was there the 24-year old McCain posted the photo of herself wearing a tank top that generated the subsequent controversy .

The photograph apparently generated a string of negative responses, leading McCain to weigh in 15 minutes later: "so I took a fun picture not thinking anything about what I was wearing but apparently anything other than a pantsuit and I am a slut."

"This is why I have been considering deleting my twitter account," McCain, with close to 60,000 followers, continued in another tweet, "what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment."

Fifteen minutes later, McCain weighed in again, tweeting, "When I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a slut", I can't even tell you how hurt I am."

An hour later, the prolific tweeter said her decision was nearly made: "ok I am getting the f**k off twitter, promise not to delete my account until I sleep on it, thank you for the nice words supporters."

But McCain did make one final tweet before the evening came to a close, posting a link to her latest column for the Web site The Daily Beast.

You put your life online for anyone with internet access to see, and you don't think people are going to have opinions about you? Shut your mouth you stupid bimbo. And yes, please do get off Twitter. Who cares?

John   October 15th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

I thought CNN was a news organization not a Reality TV gossip site. Seriously? This is your story the daughter of a senator is going to quit twitter? Wow very political. File this under Entertainment at least.

Isn't It Obvious   October 15th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

Anyone who thinks that Meghan is the least bit upset about the reaction to her latest (or any) posting is hopelessly naive. She's gotten more press from this "controversy" in the past hour than she's gotten all year.

billp   October 15th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

If it were not for her last name, no one would pay any attention to this girl. Why not try to showcase her appearance? Anything to continue to attract attention when her own achievements (or lack of) do not justify it.

Andrea   October 15th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Holy mother of pearl!! If she did not think that photo wouldn't cause a stir, she is living in la la land. Geezz! Are those things real? I mean really. This photo was more than sweat pants and a tank top. Surly she looked at it before posting it. It's mostly two gigantic melons barely contained by a piece of fabric.

Proud Boulder Liberal   October 15th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

Folks:

Leave Meghan McCain (my favorite Republican) alone!

All too many Americans can't stand women who have minds of their own be it (her) Democrat or Republican, Hillary or Meghan...

America needs to get over its its phony moralizing.

Oh, please... I looked at the photo. It screams, "LOOK at my BOOBS." She knew what she was doing when she sent the picture out. I like her, but this time she needs to own up to what she did.

ken sanders   October 15th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

No offense or disrespect but this lady should just ' butt out '. The same can be said about the Cheney daughter. Yesterday's children. And who cares what they think ? They have accomplished NOTHING yet on their own. They think they are celebrities. DISGUSTING !!!!

Jann in Denver   October 15th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Why oh why does CNN care about this kind of foolishness?

kaleto   October 15th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Jnywest   October 15th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Twitter is stupid. At the end of the day you have 60,000 "friends" whom you do not know, who do not care about you are anything else. The simple reality is that twitter puts you in contact with 1000's of of our fellow human beings, I cant imangine a worse time than that.

Nick   October 15th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Meghan McCain's socially liberal, fiscally conservative approach to politics is the stance the GOP needs to take in order to remain afloat. But the party heads seem hell-bent on pulling the GOP to the right .... right over the cliff that is.

Jeeze   October 15th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Why does CNN think anyone really cares?

Two Things:

1) If you are going to write a story about a "controversial" photo please post the photo.

2) Meghan, if you are going to post a photo featuring your breasts popping out of your shirt then expect some negative feedback.

Both of these points are obvious and both CNN & McCain should be intelligent enough to to know this. You guys are better than than this, c'mon now.

We really dodged a bullet when the American People voted against the McCain and Palin ticket. First Sara Palin would be son-in law and now McCain's daughter.

Dave   October 15th, 2009 11:53 am ET

What an uptight constituency of American Taliban Meghan McCain is stuck with. I'm defininitely no Republican and would never vote for her dad, but I don' see anything wrong with her wearing a tank-top.

Charlotte, NC   October 15th, 2009 11:53 am ET

Meghan McCain is clearly an immature kid. Why is ANYthing she does or says news? She needs to shut up, delete the Twitter for sure and get a real job so she can mature.

gl, From Pittsburgh   October 15th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Steve in St. Louis   October 15th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Ridiculous. If someone only likes her when she's frumpy, she should forget about them. She looks great in the picture. She should not have to apologize to any one.

She is a loser like her dad.

Richard of Knoxville   October 15th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Who did she offend? Her father's political opponents? Meghan McCain is getting harassed by cowardly people because the internet protects their anonymity. People are able to type negative comments without fear of reprisal. Young girls and women wear tank tops in public without backlash everyday. It's all about politics.

Even though Ms. McCain and I have many differences politically, I really have to say that this is ridiculous! On the one hand, the tv airwaves are filled with commercials for erectile disfunction & scantily clad bodies selling everthing under the sun, but just let one of our political "darlings" (and I mean that with no disrespect to Ms. McCain) be seen the way real women dress when they are kicking back at home and people feel like they can treat that person like she should have a red letter "A" emblazened on her chest! Just one of the many, many issues Americans have with the "four letter word" . . . sex!

Layla   October 15th, 2009 11:45 am ET

I have been reading this outragous news stories people in the public eye. Seriously, and this one has hit a nerve. Meghan McCain is human and has the same rights as everyday people not in the public eye. She has the right to take a photo of herself, it was not a inapporpriate picture. If you go to this same site or any other social webpage, you will see 5 times worse. I hope Meghan doesnt delete her account.

Terry from West Texas   October 15th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Attention morons: In the real world, you do not get to vote and decide who gets thrown off the planet. If a woman wants to wear a tank top and sweatpants, should we make a law against it? I remember when women could not wear pants to work and had to wear hose and heels. We could go back to those days.

I know that a lot of you 300 lb gals love nothing better than to criticize what someone else is wearing. If THEY are tacky, then YOU must be fashionable, right?

Judging people and finding them to be lacking is something you have learned from reality TV, where the morons judge which idiot gets kicked off the program.

McCain is a Conservative, therefore she does deserve to be kicked off the planet, but while she's here let the girl wear what she wants to. Close your pie holes.

zap01   October 15th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Wow, the one republican I actually find common ground with. Goes to show you that politics is the art of taking anything positive and twisting it negative. Oddly, I don't see how a photo of her could be negative. Must be gays complaining.

This is so silly. I am not a fan of McCain, though I like her more than her dad. However, the picture, while somewhat over the top, is not that big a deal. Wingnuts need to get over it already with sex and sexuality.

Alex   October 15th, 2009 11:31 am ET

The people who complained about this photo need to get a life and move into the 21st century. The pic is posted on some other news sites and the only thing about it is it shows cleavage. Big deal. I've seen worse in high school yearbooks. Do people expect her to wear neck-high sweaters or a nun's habit? Give me a break.

Thomas   October 15th, 2009 11:31 am ET

So?

And I am suppose to care about this for what reason, CNN?

FEDFL   October 15th, 2009 11:30 am ET

I seriously doubt that any of the criticisms came from liberals. After all, liberals are far more open minded and understanding.

Ray   October 15th, 2009 11:30 am ET

Why is this on CNN's Political Ticker? Slow news day?

KC   October 15th, 2009 11:30 am ET

Roger   October 15th, 2009 11:27 am ET

It was just a matter of time before the little darling done something to offend her right wingnuts.....I am just surprised that it took this long, it usually does not take much.....look at the right wingnuts in SC who gave Senator Graham fits in his town hall meeting earlier this week because they think he is not conservative enough for them....when watching these wingnuts on TV you can see the anger & hate on their faces & most do not have a clue of what they are mad about or have been told a lies & become enraged....I knew that Meghan was too liberal for the GOP it was just a matter of time.....

Margaret   October 15th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Meghan McCain needs help, seriously. (I wonder if she knows that?)

This kid is showing definitive signs of being ignored by her parents. There is nothing she won't do for attention and adoration.

Seems like a nice girl, but having famous parents is no excuse for embarrassing public behavior, but certainly explains it.

Good luck, Meghan.

Kevin   October 15th, 2009 11:27 am ET

What do these so called celebrities, sports stars, musicians think is going to happen when you make posts on what you are doing? This Twitter is just a means for haters to hate on you.

It does not matter if you are a moron republican or a liberal socialist democrat. Twitter allows people to hate you and the person sending the tweet has nobody to blame but THEMSELVES. This is what happens when you allow the world to peek into your life. You deserve the hate.

yuri   October 15th, 2009 11:26 am ET

The revolutionary daughter of John McCain has stolen the lime light again. At least she seems like a breath of fresh air, as a striking contrast to the bigots and demagogues of the intensely Machiavellian GOP. The GOP's cantankerous character has come under fire recently, and we were wonderin' where Meghan was for some time.

Brian   October 15th, 2009 11:26 am ET

This isn't news CNN you should be ashamed and the person who put this up needs to be fired. This is not a news station. This is a bunch of gossip. You make fun of FOX, the most watched news station, for not reporting news and then you put this garbage up. I am truly dissapointed by your lack of class.

brian   October 15th, 2009 11:24 am ET

I've seen the picture – is this a joke. I guess she could have created a sex tape like so many other "models", however this picture is nothing. I think a 24 years old simply having fun should be encouraged, not complained about. Hopefully she continues her twitter, creates a facebook page and considers herself a "maverick". If everyone else can't live with her decision and her looks, tell them they can shove it.

Mike   October 15th, 2009 11:23 am ET

This should be the definition of a non-story. It was reported elsewhere that she has released an apology, but for what? She is wearing a tank top that pushes her breasts together (but is in no way obscene) while holding a book...I see worse with middle school girls. Anyone who was actually offended by this has much bigger issues.

WhoCares?   October 15th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Women really wear incredible push up bras when at home lounging?

That can't be comfortable.

Nothing wrong with a woman showing her wares though...or all clothes would be shapeless bags.

Sick of It   October 15th, 2009 11:21 am ET

She has boobs – big deal. Its the people that have a problem with her picture that need help. No one forced them to look at the picture.

Ed Tallahassee   October 15th, 2009 11:21 am ET

It's a little sexier picture then you are use to seeing of Meghan, but come on.

Matt from Toronto   October 15th, 2009 11:20 am ET

I'm not a Republican... I'm not even American.. I am a socialist, but I won't deny that Meghan McCain is very fine. That, and she is a reasonable nice woman! Silly conservatives getting all riled up over a picture which, on the internet, is pretty mild mannered.

single mom   October 15th, 2009 11:19 am ET

This is insane. I've seen the picture.
People, back off and get a life. She's twenty-four, for crying out loud!
So many idiots out there.

john   October 15th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Where do they get these people? Obsessive compulsive half-wits who crave media attention so much that they will do or say any stupid thing that comes into their heads. And the media falls all over themselves to report everything these idiots do because they are famous (in their own minds) or related or involved with someone famous. I think this whole reality (and twitter) thing has gone way too far. People like McCain don't affect normal peoples lives in any way so why don't we just ignore them. If she can't cope with life and reality then maybe she needs psychiatric help and maybe her father needs some help also, after all his campaign picked Sarah Palin!

KK   October 15th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Just like Palin, when you heat things up you quit and run rather than face the wrong you did.

New Yorker   October 15th, 2009 11:17 am ET

rkm   October 15th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Meghan's constant whining is just further proof, she is a RINO.

Mike S   October 15th, 2009 11:14 am ET

McCain is definitely someone who could use some 'think-it-over-time' between thinking something and then sharing it with the world. No one cares what you wear at home – but if you post a picture of it on the internet, it's no longer "you alone in your apartment".

I haven't seen the picture, and don't really care what she posts, the lady is really light on logic.

Jackie in Dallas   October 15th, 2009 11:14 am ET

What goes out into the cyberworld doesn't go away, Meghan. Something that more people need to think about. I doubt most people really think you are less than you are because of a single photo. I didn't vote for your dad, but you don't deserve to reap the fruits of what he sowed during the campaign...and I get a feeling that a lot of the negatives were just that.

Just remember that deleting your account won't make the picture or the contraversy go away. It will just move through the digital underground. Keep it where you can keep an eye on it, and think twice before posting more pix!

Dave   October 15th, 2009 11:13 am ET

So what?

We post a picture of our President with his shirt off and it's ok...she has a tank top on and the world act's like she's swinging from a stripper pole...some of you need to get a grip

bob in LA   October 15th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Meghan- you have learned the pitfalls of celebrity.
The saddest thing is, its probably the people that agree with many of your political views that are judging you.
This is why moderate Democrats- not just the far left- feel the way we do about Republicans. They feel they have the last word on every aspect of our our lives while believing the government should stay out of it. In reality- it should be the reverse. Our government is there ti help us-not control us.
Wear what you want and please continue your rational take on politics. You're a refreshing take on the GOP.

Laurie in Spokane   October 15th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Who cares what she's wearing? More to the point, who cares what her opinions are on anything? People – get a life!

John   October 15th, 2009 11:10 am ET

Good, quit Twitter....what a stupid fad and service that is, only used by marketing people thinking anyone cares what they say.

Geo   October 15th, 2009 11:09 am ET

I'm amazed that anyone would criticize a Republican for what she/he wears. After all, isn't it Republican-oriented Fox News that features fleshy titillation on its dot-com cover every day?! I thought Republicans loved to feature flesh. Maybe Fox will feature Meghan' "biki-bod" someday soon - then it will be okay.

me   October 15th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Okay people, get a grip, she is 24 years old and she is not the person who ran for president. Give her a break. It's Twitter, it's not official it's a place for people to rant, rave, add comments, whatever.

John Adams   October 15th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Jealous for Popularity and Money Hungry, Sue Happy, Mishap Average Americans all in a race to try and tear something down. I don't blame her for the way she reacted. I'd be very angry too if someone started tearing me down just because of a picture. America needs to get their heads out of the gutter and focus on the real point of things. It's sad that uncommon sense has taken over these days.

ThinkAgain   October 15th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Mike   October 15th, 2009 11:08 am ET

Gee whiz, does there always have to be some uptight busybody to spoil the party? These folks should turn their judgemental eye to the do-nothing politics of the Republican party and leave Meghan alone.

I'm no fan of the GOP party, but cut the girl some slack.

It would be interesting to see what those that slammed her have on THEIR profiles (better think about getting out of that glass house)

lisa   October 15th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Megan, you see if you were a Liberal, and on our side we wouldn't say a thing about a harmless picture of you in a tank top.

But....because you choose to be on the side of the "family Values' party, they are all going to go ape sh!t. Now to them, this makes you are dirty girl.
So get smart and realise you are on the nut case side. They will never forgive you, and on the other hand we think there is nothing to forgive.

Rose   October 15th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Okay, so she has breasts. What's the big deal? Geez! I sometimes wear tanks to bed and guess what? They do squeeze one's breasts. It happens. But in a way, I'm not shocked that Megan is finding it hard to be fully accepted by her Republican fans. They do tend to be very narrow-minded. Thank God I'm not a Republican. :)

Meghan got a taste of the puerile, prudish, and generally hypocritical attitude that is so prevalent in the Republican Party today. Wonder if she's smart enough to figure that out.

Greg C.   October 15th, 2009 11:00 am ET

I have two daughters in college, by now they now what social networking sites mean relative to your image good/bad. Any excuse Meghan has is weak at best; she knows better. Bottom line, she should be mature enough to know the implications of such a medium and the reality of being a reflection on your family, good or bad. I see it all too common from the more liberally educated "intellectuals" that feel they have a right to say/do what ever they wish without any consequence; they leave common sense at the door of these institutions. They have to learn the hard way. Despite the hard lesson learned, she will still have to deal the downstream consequences; a bitter pill. Hopefully our kids will learn before they destroy their image or harm that of their own family. At least John won't stone her to death.

Reagan was wrong   October 15th, 2009 10:59 am ET

I like Meghan, but if she's going to be throwing her opinions out there, she's gotta develop a much, much, much tougher skin.

Ken H.   October 15th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Since when is it a controversy that a girl in a tank top snapping a photo of themselves wrong? She is an attractive girl and showed nothing more than some cleavage. I've seen worse from Hollyweird actors.

GM from MN   October 15th, 2009 10:59 am ET

I hope she gets into politics.

She's the only Republican that seems to actually understand what the party's principles stand for.

artc   October 15th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Mehgan is the only republican worth anything and here they are, knocking her for what they claim is loose morals. In acuality it's these false Christian types who throw stones. These morons are the farthest thing from true Christianity there is. They carry jesus on their sleeves and then behind closed doors and in the deep recesses of their souls they commit sin. God bless the Republican conservative party!

Ohio Man   October 15th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Well heck, I wear fuzzy lion slippers..lol

AGirl   October 15th, 2009 10:57 am ET

She's an idiot. As if she didn't know exactly what she was doing. She really needs to go away and grow up.

markus   October 15th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Meghan, c'mon over to the Democrats.

we don't care what you wear, just as long as you're there... :)

Mad Cow   October 15th, 2009 10:56 am ET

If she wants to represent and be a social conservative, Meghan needs to learn that she has to play by their rules and not appear to be a tramp.

Ms. McCain, despite her name and lineage, has not earned the God-given social conservative right to proclaim, "Do as I say, not do as I do." I mean, look how long it took Mark Saford to reach that level.

Duck Fallas   October 15th, 2009 10:56 am ET

What a dirty bird. Family values akin to the Palins.

GOP = white trash

Diane   October 15th, 2009 10:55 am ET

Come on, people. GROW UP!!!

sean   October 15th, 2009 10:53 am ET

I don't see the big deal with this photo. She's a fantastic looking woman.

I see far more racey images than this on televison and billboards everyday.

If anything, Victorias Secret and Sports Illustrated should be signing her up for million dollar contracts.

Jerry   October 15th, 2009 10:53 am ET

And then all the jealous ugly liberal girls began to bash her , Must be Sarah Palin syndrome.

FactCheck   October 15th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Seriously? You wing-nut worship a ditz whose first child was conceived out of wedlock and whose grandkid will be born out of wedlock, yet lord help Meghan should she wear a tank top, right? No wonder only 21% of the population aligns with you.

Ellen Smithee   October 15th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Be strong, Meghan, against those judgmental buttheads!
Who cares what these hypocritical Christian Right has to say!
You can dress how you wish and take a picture of it.
If they don't like it, they can drop off your Friends list, and you will not have lost much!

David S   October 15th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Meghan McCain is not hold any public office. She is an intelligent, attractive woman who happens to have a father who is in public office. To chastise her for wearing what any other attractive woman her age would wear and being photographed in it is ridiculous. Nothing tacky about it. Leave her alone.

Lilarose in Bandon, OR   October 15th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Twitter must be a total waste of time. Don't you kids have more important things to do with your lives?

What would your parents or grandparents be doing instead?

Bob   October 15th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Does wearing anything but a pant suit make you a slut? No, but being in such an intense spotlight it might be prudent to review some of the self portraits before posting them on such a widely viewed forum, one in which both your critiques and fans have access. Some may argue she has the freedom of expression to look how ever she wants, thats fine, just dont get upset if people use their freedom of expression to voice their own opinions. Sounds to me like she is more concerned with what people think, not her right to expression.

MD   October 15th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Unfortunately I think our children will have to learn some very hard lessons about privacy and how important it can be from using Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc., Sorry her feelings got hurt be this is a lesson learned. Hope other young people are taking note.

Alan   October 15th, 2009 10:50 am ET

As an admirer of Ms. McCain, but not of the concept of tweeting, I believe that Meghan may have (re)discovered what past generations already learned to appreciate – the value of privacy. I do not understand people like the Gosselins, who decided to live what should have been a private homelife in the public eye. The concept of being famous simply for seeking fame seems so empty. Meghan would serve herself better by becoming known through her achievements, and then enjoying the occasional quiet night to herself - alone!

carlos, That one   October 15th, 2009 10:50 am ET

without a doubt it had to be the CONS ervative loons who humiliated this girl, satanic bastards, well, I guess they have been called so many names that they are already used to it

Jay T.   October 15th, 2009 10:50 am ET

No one who reads Andy Warhol in the near nude can possibly be a Republican...except maybe Dennis Hopper...but, he's crazy. So which is it, Megan- closet Democrat or mad(wo)men.

Emma   October 15th, 2009 10:48 am ET

What Meagan was wearing was not offensive to me. I was not not impressed with the mouth tape and the elephant.

Derek from Medford, MA   October 15th, 2009 10:47 am ET

There's barely anything wrong with that photo. Is a very pretty photo. The people causing a stink over it are the real boobs.

Ummm, yeah   October 15th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I always thought that McCain was hot, but this pic is Grrrreat. Looks like she could work in few different industries and still make some loot.

danielle   October 15th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I love reading your twitter Meghan, I'm a big fan! Don't delete it (or let petty comments get to you) One of the reasons I admire you is because you are so strong and independent...don't let a few words get you down. You are so beautiful and smart! Keep on doing your thing girl!

John H-town   October 15th, 2009 10:46 am ET

yes you need to reflect on this. take some time out

jaye   October 15th, 2009 10:45 am ET

WHO cares!!!!
She is just another airheaded rich girl that wants to dabble in politics.
Why does anyone even pay attention to her political views....she's just another joe the plumber type that the desperate republicans hitch their desperate wagon to.

Travis In Colorado   October 15th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Hi Meghan, I never saw the pics because I'm not on twitter, but you are not a slut, you are all class! I've always admired you and I respect you. Don't let these chinless virgins who still live with mommy and daddy get you down, you have to be better than they are. Hope your days goes great!

Travis

David   October 15th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Meghan McCain is one of the few sane Republicans left (okay, she's not an elected official but...). People jump all over her for posting a picture of herself that shows some cleavage. Wow. These people desperately need lives. In my opinion, the picture isn't anything more than you might see in a magazine advertisement. It's a good photo of her.

disgusted   October 15th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Good grief. Small minds.

Karen   October 15th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Sorry dude, but you couldn't tell that your boobs were popping out of your shirt? Come on, feign something else.

Maria H   October 15th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Would Twitter be any worse without Meghan McCain? Really....

TLDSR   October 15th, 2009 10:42 am ET

The Republican Party is a disgrace and an abomination. There is something putrid about these guys and gals. The Republican Parties of past decades did not make me want to shower after I hear or see them speak on issues. I think it may have started with the Newt Gingrich Crew a few years back.

Fred in Illinois   October 15th, 2009 10:42 am ET

If she were the daughter of John Kerry, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or had the word Kennedy attached to her name the left would be screaming "What's the big deal?"

Who cares about the photo? People need to grow up.

Pat in Omaha   October 15th, 2009 10:41 am ET

It's not what you wear or don't wear that makes you less respected! Your language shows a limited command of English!
My students know that falling into the use of four letter words is an indication that intelligence is lacking...get a thesaurus and find some descriptive words that don't have to be bleeped out!
And face it...you love the attention...immature people want attention even if it is negative!

TangledThorns   October 15th, 2009 10:40 am ET

I'm not a Twitter fan, Facebook is way better. Meghan is hot, nuff said!

Oy Vey   October 15th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Meghan is a saucy young American woman with her own mind and other great attributes.

If you all are in such a twitter over this innocent photo then you must be one of those folks sitting around waiting for the rapture.

Personally I think Meghan's playfulness has supplied plenty of rapture for today.

You go girl.

Ajay Jain, Garland, TX, USA   October 15th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Oh my Gosh! People like GW Bush are "thinking" of joining Twitter and Meghan McCain with 60,000 followers is thinking of quitting Twitter!

Something is wrong with this picture!!!

carlo   October 15th, 2009 10:39 am ET

I'm a Democrat, but come on! The girl is well endowed, and she's young. She can wear a tank top. She's not an elected official.

Republicans keep acting like this and they're going to go the way of the Whigs.

Patrick   October 15th, 2009 10:39 am ET

We are surprised?

Richie   October 15th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Twitter was stupid before Meghan joined and it will be just as stupid after she leaves. Why anyone would want to subject themselves to constant judgment by unseen idiots is beyond me.

DJ in TX   October 15th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Meghan, continue to speak your mind. I thought the GOP was all for "individual freedoms". This young lady was at home lounging around. Was she totally naked? Doesn't sound like it. If people would put more energy to helping as they did criticizing every little thing someone does, we'd be much better off. Why are always trying to tear someone down vs lifting them up? You can disagree without trying to demonize someone.

Lori   October 15th, 2009 10:38 am ET

I wish Meghan McCain would just go away already. She's pathetic and an embarrassment to smart women everywhere. As a Repbulican, I just want to say "Meghan, please get off our side."

Carter   October 15th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Please Meghan, grow up! ...and just go away.

buckwheat   October 15th, 2009 10:36 am ET

McCain, like most of the majority of Americans either do not have control of their offspring, or think that it is normal for the times. It is another sign of Liberalism . If you think it is bad now wait till these spoiled brats start paying the taxes we are about to endure.

fhjetta   October 15th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Hopefully she will be gone soon and take her father with her. We don't need to hear any more from either.

Potomac Wonderfool   October 15th, 2009 10:35 am ET

Everyone has a right to be casual, have fun and appear in public in acceptable public norm. One does not have to live by standards of decency defined by some prudes. What then is the difference between the Saudi/Taliban and us? I don't follow Twitter and i am not a Meghan McCain fan. But I respect her right to be what she enjoys doing and I do not think less of Meghan.

Lance Coardill   October 15th, 2009 10:35 am ET

Funny she should be reading about Andy Warhol. Her 15 minutes of fame expired about 2 years ago. And this is newsworthy how? Why? I just returned from Budapest and most Hungarians laugh at us for our attention to this drivel. That CNN attends to it as well should make us all very worried.

Jilli   October 15th, 2009 10:34 am ET

Who cares?

This is "news"?

Jordan   October 15th, 2009 10:34 am ET

"When I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a slut." But it wasn't you alone in your apartment... there were 60,000 people right there with you. When will people realize that when you let the world into your apartment, you lose the right to do things (free from comment) you would normally do if all alone. This was a 100% self-inflicted harassment.

Ray   October 15th, 2009 10:33 am ET

She's a slut, Palin's a genius, and Coulter is the voice of reason.

Welcome to the Republican party, ladies. ;-)

Dave C - NJ   October 15th, 2009 10:32 am ET

If her boobs were not so big, and thus not as noticable, would anyone have even said anything? Leave the girl alone. It's a human body folks...grow up.

Ted   October 15th, 2009 10:31 am ET

"... posting a picture of herself in a tank top that left little to the twitterverse's imagination." Huh!? Cleavage?! Who the heck wrote this piece? Cable news just gets more stupid as time goes on.

AustHall   October 15th, 2009 10:31 am ET

You have got to be kidding!!

People got offended by that picture. I mean come on grow up

brian   October 15th, 2009 10:31 am ET

I didn't think anything of this it till I saw the picture, which seems more like a playboy glamourshot so I can see how some might be upset. The thing is most people I know wouldn't open their front door dressed how they when they are 'just hanging out in the apartment', so why post a picture of that to millions of people?

Dave   October 15th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Please Ms. McCain don't cancel your tweeter account. What would the World do without your brilliance and know it all attitude. I personally don't know how my day would be knowing you cancelled your account. And, that thousands of idiots who pay attention to you would suffer upsets me. Please continue to tweeter.

Tina   October 15th, 2009 10:29 am ET

I guess she's finding out that people will criticize anything you do. You can't post pictures of yourself and not expect to get criticize. That's just the way the world is.

lovable liberal   October 15th, 2009 10:29 am ET

"Leaving little to the ... imagination" is not accurate. It's a cleavage photo you could see in a PG movie or any trip to the mall.

Looks as though the media has turned on Meghan McCain.

Swampdweller   October 15th, 2009 10:29 am ET

So, CNN, you have the right to decide what you put on your Political Ticker". But may I gently suggest that you fire the brain-dead bozos who make those decisions? They make you appear as vapid and foolish as this story.

Lauren   October 15th, 2009 10:28 am ET

She's right! Anything less than a pantsuit and you're considered a slut! I'm sorry that our country is full of hypocrites Megan!

Nick   October 15th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Slow news day?

Isn't something more important happening somewhere?

Charlie   October 15th, 2009 10:27 am ET

This is the company you keep, Meghan. Don't ever forget it. You sell your soul to the rightwing, and suddenly the sexual revolution never happened. Now get back in the kitchen and fix your old man some dinner!

Dean   October 15th, 2009 10:27 am ET

And CNN considers this newsworthy? No wonder FOX news is winning the ratings race.

Scott   October 15th, 2009 10:26 am ET

I'm certain the rest of the article was hard-hitting journalism (rolls eyes)...but I checked out after reading Meghan McCain and tank top in the first sentence. The campaign is over CNN...let it go. She was a nobody then and is a nobody now. Besides....don't you trolls have more Palin stalking to do?

Troy   October 15th, 2009 10:25 am ET

I looked at the picture and i seriously don't understand what all the uproar is about. She's a beautiful, intelligent, adult woman... they have boobs people.

I was expecting something much worse... Not Megan McCain in a tanktop... big whup!

Alexa   October 15th, 2009 10:23 am ET

I don't agree with the pose and showing it all off, but do recognize that she's human. She made a mistake by offending other people apparently, she apologized, so get over it!

pkb   October 15th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Only CNN and its GOP fascination could have an article on McCain's daughter! Who gives a rat's ptooty what she looks like or does except CNN?

Jeff   October 15th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Maybe if Meghan McCain wasn't such a hopeless, attention-starved, and self-absorbed nitwit, she wouldn't have these problems.

Seriously, I follow her out of sheer amazement. Every 10 minutes there's an update about what she's wearing and comments about what "everyone must think of her".

Seriously, get over yourself!

David   October 15th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Meghan,

What did you expect? Most of your followers are republican and still live like it's the 18th century. If they had it their way the Earth would still be flat & you'd be in the kitchen.

It is sad but true.

That being said...I liked the pic!

David

speechmom   October 15th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Please...she's a cute young girl and one of the few Republicans I don't mind hearing talk these days. What girl her age doesn't hang out in sweats and a tank top?

Luke   October 15th, 2009 10:19 am ET

That's life when you're semi-famous.

AJ   October 15th, 2009 10:19 am ET

I can't believe this is news.

I'm also shocked that we apparently still live in 1800's. She has a womanly figure, get over it people. Doesn't take away from her or her ideas.

Mike   October 15th, 2009 10:18 am ET

"Meghan McCain says she's ready to quit Twitter all together"

Is there any way to get her to just shut up altogether?

JM   October 15th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Well that picture really didn't leave anything to the imagination and yes its quite revealing but you know what? It's really not something that those people need to get their knickers in a twist over and it doesn't make Meghan a slut or anything else. Those people need to get off their moral high horse and just relax. And Meghan certainly shouldn't quit Twitter just because of this.

Clint   October 15th, 2009 10:17 am ET

How self absorbed can a person get without it becoming pathological?

Not Right or Left but Forward   October 15th, 2009 10:17 am ET

What a nitwit!

MLH   October 15th, 2009 10:16 am ET

I feel bad for Meghan McCain, but this seems to be symptomatic of a generation (or 2?) that have grown up thinking that everything that can be posted, should be posted.

Liberty   October 15th, 2009 10:16 am ET

Oh come off it people. I can see more erotic pictures and video on prime time television. Why has our society become such a culture of criticism. My mother always taught me not to throw stones when you live in a glass house, a lesson apparently not everyone was taught.

Love ya Meghan!

Some republican guy   October 15th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Dangit, what's wrong with Meghan showing a little cleavage? I'd rather look at her than those scrawny liberal women with they're black clothing and armpit hair and no makeup and Chey Guevarro t-shirts and berets and stuff. The narcisstic obamabots are behind these slanderous attacks. I just know it!!!! Have a nice day!

TW in Nawlins   October 15th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Nothing wrong with that picture...

Some people are just idiots.

ender   October 15th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Is this suprising?

I mean really, Megan is a "progressive conservative" for starters. It's pretty much an oxymoron to begin with and I have little doubt many "real" conservatives already have a problem with her.

Conservatives attack anyone they dont agree with. I'm sure there's little love for Megan and her ... GASP .... progressive ways.

Move over to the Democrats already Megan. You're not a republican anyway.

T'SAH from Virginia   October 15th, 2009 10:14 am ET

And these are your FRIENDS???? This is your PARTY OF CHOICE??? Dang – did you SHOW anything or did those NASTY minds WANTED to see more and you did not give it to them!!!

I did not see the picture but you should have known what the PARTY of NO is all about and you went against their principles – their morals – their values. NO ONE else have those characteristics but the REPUBLI-CAN'Ts and they KICKED YOU TO THE CURB because you went against them.... Tisk, Tisk, Tisk!!!

So what do you stand for now, Meghan??? I mean 50,000 followers??? GONE – just like that!!! The nerve of them!!! LOL

just2say   October 15th, 2009 10:13 am ET

Hey.....the photo looks great. I wouldn't sweat it Meghan, everyones a critic anymore! Not a bad choice of read either..........just be yourself.

Aunt Bea and Opie   October 15th, 2009 10:12 am ET

We dont think it was an accident.Shes just drumming up business, like a cheap hooker and increasing her following among the street dogs.hahaha

Susan   October 15th, 2009 10:12 am ET

I hope this is a lesson to young people...THINK before you take that photo, and never, ever send it online, where it will haunt you forever! I know someone who was refused a good she was very qualified for because the potential boss googled her and found some pix. Parents, don;t buy these things for your kids (the decision on brain cancer is still out!) and talk to them over and over about their privacy and their personal things staying personal, including nightwear. This should be a no-brainer.

Puddin'   October 15th, 2009 10:11 am ET

Even prior to reading this, I have thought she was "full of herself" and advertising herself inappropriatly. I think she wants attention, lots of it and not the kind that would be considered admirable by most people with a brain.

rndmhole   October 15th, 2009 10:09 am ET

Slow news day?..

Anna from Phoenix   October 15th, 2009 10:09 am ET

Dear Megan,

Welcome to your first lesson in Internet Manners. People are allowed to be cruel because you do not know what we look like and we can hide behind a computer and do stuff like this and not get caught. We feel so powerful with this ability........NOT.

Wear those tank tops and thumb your nose at the rude.
!

kcl   October 15th, 2009 10:09 am ET

The key words, "when I'm alone in my apartment" um, why put a picture of you on twitter wearing something you don't wear anywhere else?
This will haunt her for years with the various places that picture will end up.
Seems like there have been many internet instances that would warrant thinking before posting!?
Sad lesson to learn but she for one should have known better.

Bob Grefe   October 15th, 2009 10:07 am ET

I am a progressive and abhor your polotics. I do however support you in this situation. I don,t do twitter and have not seen the picture, however I think you are allowed to wear anything you want in your home without it reflecting on your character or morality. People who condem you need to get a life and allow you to get on with yours!

MH in Michigan   October 15th, 2009 10:07 am ET

Just a lovely lady taking a picture of herself. What is all the fuss about?

Matt   October 15th, 2009 10:07 am ET

Don't quit Twitter because some idiots made some nasty, anonymous remarks about you. They're not your friends, and you shouldn't be bothered by such fluff. That's the life you have to endure when you are a public figure. If you have aspirations of public service in the same way your father is serving his country, then you are already demonstrating weaknesses that will not serve you well as an even more prominent figure. I like you, Ms. McCain. You are the face and reason the Republican party needs. You are the reason I would consider switching parties and supporting Republicans. Don't let the chatter on the side affect you – please.

Enough   October 15th, 2009 10:06 am ET

And this is considered newsworthy? Must be a slow day CNN.

Pete   October 15th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Seriously.....who cares! There is worse on primetime television EVERY night and we ACCEPTED a President who cheated on his wife IN THE WHITE HOUSE but this NON-NUDE picture is an issue? Only reason people care is because she is the daughter of a prominent Republican. GET A GRIP people. If she was the daughter of a Democrat she would be praised for "being proud of her body" or for "expressing herself". Just another example of the double standards that are now acceptable.

Brennan, Seattle WA   October 15th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Meghan,

This has nothing to do with your Twitter account and everything to do with your party.

The Republican party makes a living telling people what to believe and how they should act. Your clothing choices clearly do not meet their standards.

Wise Latina   October 15th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Let's forever forget who this irrelevant person is or ever was. She is NOT news of any kind.

PNWjim   October 15th, 2009 10:03 am ET

You are not only bright and have more gonads than most of the old white guys but you are a modern woman [Im a demo. man ]who is also very hot. Peter E   October 15th, 2009 10:00 am ET

The new generation of republicans is no better than the old. They are holier-than-thou pretentious hypocrites. They talk about how immoral, lude behavior by OTHERS is destroying America, only to have themselves exposed on national television for those same behaviors. Then they tell everyone to 'forgive and forget.' And while criticizing others for posting ludicrous tweets, they themselves can't stop spamming about their private lives either!

Ant C.   October 15th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I like Meghan. She is a voice for many people. She is smart and courageous. She has made a name for herself for not only speaking up for her father but for the values she holds dear and has never been ashamed to admit it. She is proud of her dad as she is of her mother. She is modest. She has shown this country that you can be many things and still be happy and successful.

I am sorry that people had to take it out on her for choosing to post a picture of herself. ALthough I did not see the picture I can honestly say that any negative comments thrown at her is extremely unfortunate. This country ... as has so many other countries in the world ... has opted to take the "TEAR THEM DOWN" mentality towards people.

I hope, Meghan, you remain vocal with the world on all that you deem important or silly, all that you deem right or wrong, and all that you think we would want to hear. Stand tall and strong!!!

mike   October 15th, 2009 9:56 am ET

what she does in her apartment is her business the problem is that she has a father who is in the republican party that thinks they have moral values until it knocks on there door she needs to switch parties

Hmmm....   October 15th, 2009 9:55 am ET

A good lesson to us all- no matter who you are or who your parents are, a child is still a child until that child grows up. This child, too, will grow up. Too bad she has chosen to grow up in front of us all- a rather childish and selfish endeavor.

animated banner maker   October 15th, 2009 9:54 am ET

This is why I have been considering deleting my twitter account," McCain, with close to 60,000 followers, continued in another tweet, "what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment.

llinmpls   October 15th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Oh please please PLEASE keep twittering, how else will the rabble stay occupied? After all we have to keep up to date with your bathroom breaks and abortions. Is she Cheney's lesbian daughter? Ok I quit!! Well one more post . . . it is so addicting.

mark in Atlanta   October 15th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Man. what would make someone want to give her crap for something like that? That's just mean. And judgemental. And small minded. Oh, right, Megan is a conservative. I guess that explains it.

G2   October 15th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Hey leave her alone. The human body is natural and if her outfit was somewhat revealing and she is comfortable with it then we shouldn't get all worked up about it either. Can we please focus on the policies and positions of political figures rather than these personal attacks and personal issues. A tragedy is Charlie Rangel cheating on his taxes and still in his position. A tragedy is the Congress trying to force through a public option in healthcare reform when the majority don't want it. A tragedy is occuring in Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan. This McCain picture is not even an issue!

Mississippi Miss   October 15th, 2009 9:53 am ET

It is impossible not to react to criticism, personally I prefer praise.
Throwing yourself out there and humanizing yourself to strangers is risky. It is also addictive behavior (but you can't see it when you are caught up in it). My advice is to let your wounded ego mend and then decide whether to give up on twitter.

Bananarama Victim II: Electric Boogaloo   October 15th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Quit twitter? How about quit the puritanical Republican party? Those comments were from people stuck in an era of floor-length skirts and walking ten paces behind your man. That's the America they're talking about when they say "I want my country back."

Meghan you've made strides for young Republicans everywhere and have added a little light amoungst the dim bulbs. Why on earth would you let them tell you what to do? Why on earth would we let them tell us what to do. That's why I'm so opposed to conservatives. They don't want you to live your life as you see fit, but as they see fit.

Pathetic, but what's new?

Dr. Kinsey   October 15th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Ever notice in the GOP that it all comes down sex. At least we're now getting some equality as it's not all men anymore.

just saying   October 15th, 2009 9:51 am ET

Meghan McCain has breasts? OMG!!! And when she squeezes them together she has cleavage? OH, THE HORROR!!! I've seen the pic. She looks like someone casually dressed hanging out at home. Give me a break. Some people are reacting like she was topless or wearing a soaking wet see-thru white tanktop. P.S. Meghan is remarkably attractive in this pic.....especially her eyes!

Todd M   October 15th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Twitter and the internet allow losers and cowards to post mean and stupid rantings because they are too scared to deal with it in their real lives.
I'm guessing most of these people can't face up to their failures in life and can only feel self worth by insulting other people rather than deal with their problems and try to fix them. Besides they would probably never say them in person because they wouldn't want to deal with the conflict.

Alex   October 15th, 2009 9:49 am ET

Well Megan, so long as you are a McCain and in the public eye, the Democrats will use anything to try to put and your family down. What used to be fun is now political ammuntion for sure. Times really haven't changed. Its that same old poltical mentality that makes politics such a vile topic.

SNAPPA   October 15th, 2009 9:48 am ET

Listen little girl, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!! Being a public figure that YOU created get use to it. This is what YOU wanted isn't it? You have to make sure everyone hears your opinion, no? Now just like Mrs Palin up there in Alaska the minute it starts to get hot you want out, I see a trend here with republican women.

When something doesn't go your way QUIT!!!

KyleIM   October 15th, 2009 9:46 am ET

I didn't see the picture–because I stopped following Meghan, only because she was tweeting a little TOO much for me, lol–but this sounds ridiculous. Really, a tank top?? I'm not surprised that people want to be nasty while hiding behind a social network, but I am a little surprised that someone as strong as MM would allow this to deter her from continuing to share her message (despite the incessancy of it).

Dave C - NJ   October 15th, 2009 9:46 am ET

Good Lord, the pic was no big deal. Get over it you uptight old coots.

Mark   October 15th, 2009 9:45 am ET

Better get on her CNN! Shes is one of those conservatives!

TexGal   October 15th, 2009 9:45 am ET

Way to go Meghan for realizing that twitter is a waste of time and just another way to be harassed and stalked. Read comments on youtube, news stories, etc. and you'll see that all of this connectivity gives trolls a place to anonymously vent their anger and hatred. I personally think that the world would be a better place without twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. I will never have an account on any of these. I am with Bruce Willis who recently said that, if he wants to contact someone, he will either call them or see them in person.

DJH   October 15th, 2009 9:45 am ET

WHO CARES! The young Ms. McCain proved that she's the same idiot as the rest of the lefist morons when she went on and on about the negativity of republicans during the campaign while completely ignoring the negative of the dems and the wild and ridiculous accusations made by the far left.
Until she grows up and shows some objectivity, I'd suggest she just shut up and stick to her liberal buddies!

I'm getting sick of the lack of objectivity and massive bias being shown by the MSM – and even moreso the dishonesty as a whole by the left. The right hasn't done the American people any favors, but the left is every bit as bad and even more hate filled!

Wake Up   October 15th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Anyone going to realize that the Liberal media and blogs will tear apart any woman or minority that isn't a left-winger??

Give this girl a break. It's 2009....Obama got praised for his shirtless pic...but McCain is dragged through the mug for this house picture?? Liberal Double-standard

Donkey Party   October 15th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Meghan, you'd make a nice Blue Dog Democrat, with your fiscal responsibility and being socially liberal. That would really send pops into a cardiac. By the way, if I had big old tatas in front of me all the time, I'd be playing with them too!

Seattle Sue   October 15th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Did Meghan inherit her garbage mouth from her father? Who really cares what she has to say?

Sniffit   October 15th, 2009 9:44 am ET

"But McCain did make one final tweet before the evening came to a close, posting a link to her latest column for the Web site The Daily Beast."

So she's not a total moron. Marketing stunt anyone?

Steve   October 15th, 2009 9:43 am ET

Who cares?

Jenn   October 15th, 2009 9:43 am ET

This girl is starved for attention

JR   October 15th, 2009 9:41 am ET

who cares? This isn't political "news", it's more like a gossip column....

windfall   October 15th, 2009 9:41 am ET

Americans get so bent out of shape over the human body and sexuality; they take an innocent non-event and cry "offensive!". And yet they can't get enough of Young Hollywood climbing out of cars showing their hoohoos.

Puritanical hypocrites.

Uncle Jimbo   October 15th, 2009 9:41 am ET

Besides being the daughter of Senator McCain -

Just what exactly are her credentials, what has she accomplished in life to give her such constant air time ?

I fail to see anything inspiring about her.

jeremy.....Dallas...Texas   October 15th, 2009 9:41 am ET

What is freedom all about ? Oh maybe she was also born in Kenya like OLympia Snow. I love this republican drama....

Ryan   October 15th, 2009 9:40 am ET

I like Megan McCain. She labels herself a republican but she's not anywhere's near half as crazy as they usually are. She's a pretty girl, some would think she's fat, I think she's average but since the get-go people have been coming down hard on her and they don't seem to realize, she is NOT a politician and is not to held to the same standard. Her father is... and he's a train wreck.

But her responses to everything are completely sound, normal, sane, and justified. Why are people – especially conservatives – always jumping down her throat?? I thought you pervs loved a young girl in a tank top? Isn't that your thing what with all the repressed sexual aggression your representatives are always getting busted for?

Vietnam Combat Veteran, Ohio   October 15th, 2009 9:40 am ET

ppl have nothing else to do with their time but disect someone else for the simplest things. get a life! more important things going on in this world besides what someone is wearing!

cfrench   October 15th, 2009 9:37 am ET

Wow, does she sound psycho or what? It sounds as if her widdle feewings were hurt and she just that there in her own stew. And talk about indecisive! "I'm outa here, no wait, yes I'm outa here, F this, F that, let me sleep on it". Twitter sure does attract its Twits, doesn't it? And to think, initially I thought she had a brain and might have been a bright spot in the angry-white-guy-GOP.

Clay   October 15th, 2009 9:37 am ET

Such language from a christian conservative! I guess she learned it at home from her disgusting father.

torres   October 15th, 2009 9:36 am ET

Who cares? So just quit twitter then Meghan, and stop talking about it!

Jerry Dunn   October 15th, 2009 9:35 am ET

She is boring as is much of twitter.

Randy, San Francisco   October 15th, 2009 9:35 am ET

McCain should have stood her ground. Nothing wrong with McCain showing off her assets. Family values types in the GOP can't handle women power. Just like the Taliban who can't tolerate women power.

Will-South Dakota   October 15th, 2009 9:33 am ET

Watch the jokes began....The Daily Breast with Megan McCain....

KP   October 15th, 2009 9:33 am ET

Meghan, you wear your tank top, girl! It's your life and what everyone else thinks does not matter. It is a shame that you have to be personified by what you wear in your own house! Forget these hypocrites.

Dominican mama 4 Obama   October 15th, 2009 9:32 am ET

When you inhabit the stratosphere of the indecently, and criminally wealthy you cannot go around acting like you're Jane Blow, or expect people to react to you like they would with the 'average' person. It is not going to happen. When you add to that the fact that your daddy added to his already overflowing coffers via ill-gotten gains, primarily by throwing the country into an unnecessary war and profiting from it via no-bid war contracts, well.....folks are just not going to pass up ANY opportunity to go knee-deep in your stuff. That includes your little tank top and sweatpants combo, which I'm sure was adorable Meghan. Get real.

Cleaning up after W   October 15th, 2009 9:31 am ET

I saw the post. So what? She's got cleavage. Grow up.

I swear, the far right is this country's Taliban. Both want nothing more than to impose their ideology and strict morals on everyone. The only difference is that in the USA you can't be executed for violating those moral laws. Yet...

randy j   October 15th, 2009 9:31 am ET

who cares what megan mccain wears or anyone else for that matter ?Who cares what she or anyone else says????Get a life and get off of twitter!!!

Eric   October 15th, 2009 9:30 am ET

Very nice Meghan, very nice....

Fran   October 15th, 2009 9:29 am ET

We don't agree on politics Ms. McCain but we sure agree on what the media do to "normal" sized women.

Stay strong young lady and know that there are millions of women who agree 100% with what you say about women's weight issues.

Mike   October 15th, 2009 9:29 am ET

You're a bad lady, how dare you be comfortable in your own home!

Frozone   October 15th, 2009 9:28 am ET

I've never seen someone so desperate for attention, and with such thin skin, as Meghan McCain. It must be the fact that Megs really has no talent and nothing interesting to say.

Lydia   October 15th, 2009 9:26 am ET

Haven't seen the photo and don't care. Still a free country, Meghan, so don't let "them" get you down.

Keep talking, girl, because as a life-long Democrat myself it's good to hear your point of view without getting totally pissed off. There are so many Repubs (of course not all) and some really lame Dems out there, so don't fold up your tent and go away. Keep talking. KEEP TALKING. DON'T STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't give in. I respect your dad, don't always agree, but your a chip off the old block, along with your mom being her own person, so don't let them down.

You've battled with Ann (gulp) Coulter, et al, so just hang in there. If you stop, the Coulters will go on and on and on and on. "Brave up" and so many of us are listening to you, Meghan McCain!! Grab hold and enjoy the ride.......................don't fret.

Sam Sixpack   October 15th, 2009 9:26 am ET

Why bash her? She isn't one of the folks planning to steal your grandmother's medicare while raising taxes in the name of health care and then steal that money too.

I haven't visited this site in some weeks...   October 15th, 2009 9:26 am ET

and when I visit it, it is still the same stupid garbage passing as news

at least the economy is improving... now we need that to translate into JOBS

Obama, you are doing a great job, keep up the good work

Tony   October 15th, 2009 9:25 am ET

Meghan McCain's a pretty girl with big boobs. Has she never been around other women and jerk guys before? Twitter's not the problem, people are the problem. They'll find some other way to call her a disparaging names as long as she keeps putting herself out there. Gotta just roll with the punches.

On the other hand, I think people who obsess over Twitter are narcissists anyway.

Tony   October 15th, 2009 9:25 am ET

Meghan McCain's a pretty girl with big boobs. Has she never been around other women and jerk guys before? Twitter's not the problem, people are the problem. They'll find some other way to call her a slut as long as she keeps putting herself out there. Gotta just roll with the punches.

Pat F   October 15th, 2009 9:24 am ET

My comment on this is, who in heck cares about McCain's daughter's twitter account?

I am a die-hard Republican, and I cannot think of a more vacuous addition to the CNN ticker than this. Maybe another Obamessiah's new dog story, or Queen Michelle's new sweater story – that would be about it.

Emily   October 15th, 2009 9:24 am ET

Meghan, my hat's off to you. I don't always agree with your point of view, but you are a courageous young lady. You won me over when you appeared on Bill Maher. That took huevos!! So, hold your head high and live your life just the way you want. I'll stand up for you.

TM in CO   October 15th, 2009 9:24 am ET

Meghan McCain is not a politician so why is this in the political section? This is almost as dumb as continuing to post articles about Palin

Jason   October 15th, 2009 9:23 am ET

Social conservatives are ruining everything in this country. I sure if it was a picture of her holding a semi-automatic weapon they would be pleased, but heaven forbid she show a touch of skin.

Keep the pics coming Meghan, and your better off with a more honest career path in modeling, then in politcs.

Scott g   October 15th, 2009 9:23 am ET

Haha it stinks when most of your Twitter followers are nit jobs! She did nothing wrong!

Boston Guy   October 15th, 2009 9:23 am ET

Poor thing. She can sure dish it out but like a true Repurb, she cannot take it. Your dad lost! GET OVER IT!

Don B. Charlotte   October 15th, 2009 9:21 am ET

well, yeah, OK ... but where's the picture ?? :0)

Joe   October 15th, 2009 9:19 am ET

Meghan needs to leave the right and come over to left. She is to smart for these hillbillies.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   October 15th, 2009 9:18 am ET

Republicans still think sex sells.

Mike in Columbus   October 15th, 2009 9:17 am ET

Amazing what passes for news these days... while so many other important things slip by under the radar. CNN, FOX, MSNBC... all working hard to keep America ignorant.

2012   October 15th, 2009 9:17 am ET

Even though I'm not Megan McCain follower, that's going a little overboard isn't it?

mcangeli   October 15th, 2009 9:16 am ET

Unfortunately, its the price of the new internet age. Put something out there and people are bound to comment on it. Love it or hate it.

If Ms. McCain can't handle the comments, she shouldn't be on there. She should know however, that she's a positive role model to both men and women (and young women and girls as well) across the country and she should not let the negativity of some troubled souls get to her.

Water off a ducks back.

Mariane McDevitt   October 15th, 2009 9:16 am ET

Does anyone really care about Meaghan McCain? Who cares if she was wearing a tank top? Get a life, people.

Peoples Voice   October 15th, 2009 9:14 am ET

It was just a costume malfunction. What's the big deal?

Carmelle   October 15th, 2009 9:13 am ET

That's your fellow repubs for you...bc I can't imagine libs being offended by that (althought I haven't seen the pic), since we are the party no values, LGBT, Roe vs Wade, etc....

So now Meghan, can you answer your chairman's question...WHY ARE YOU A REPUBLICAN?

Carolina   October 15th, 2009 9:11 am ET

Leave her alone! She's the only McCain worth her weight in salt.

Chris M.   October 15th, 2009 9:10 am ET

Obviously this poor woman is a bit clueless. Posting unglamorous pictures of your self on the net and then getting negative responses? Well DUH!

Marc   October 15th, 2009 9:09 am ET

You forgot to include that she posted a tweet APOLOGIZING to those that were offended by the photo.

Bill, Bloominton IL   October 15th, 2009 9:08 am ET

Meghan, this is what happens when you court democrats. They are haters, namecallers, and generally not nice people. The funny thing is they will say republicans are the haters. Just read the blogs.
