WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Obama still hasn't committed to campaign with Creigh Deeds before Election Day, but the Democratic gubernatorial hopeful is getting an assist from a former President: Bill Clinton.

Clinton will appear at a rally with Deeds somewhere in northern Virginia next Tuesday, a Deeds aide said. The exact location has not yet been finalized.

Longtime Clinton ally Terry McAuliffe, who sought the Democratic nomination before losing to Deeds in June, will also be in attendance. McAuliffe has sent out a fundraising e-mail on Deeds' behalf, but he has also urged Deeds to run a more positive campaign if he hopes to catch up to Republican Bob McDonnell before Election Day, Nov. 3.

Former Vice President Al Gore is raising money for Deeds on Friday evening.

@ LacrosseMom:::
Where were....WE...fiscal...conservatives....when.....BUSH....war....?

I can see taxing citizens to pay for national defense.
I cannot condone taxation "to spread the wealth around." That is very close to pure Communism.

Wanda, DC   October 16th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

All right Virginia....time to do it again. Let's prove the polls wrong.

Recovered Trickledownaholic   October 16th, 2009 11:33 pm ET

How soon they forget the GOPs neglect, listening only to what the voices on TV tell them to do.

Eileen   October 16th, 2009 11:23 pm ET

Wow, the Dems are really worried and it shows. This is just the beginning. The community organizer is in way over his head, he is clueless. All he can do is make speeches, what an egomaniac. What do you expect when you elect someone with no experience?

G   October 16th, 2009 11:23 pm ET

not gonna help...we are sick of Democrats.

Franky, Land of Lincoln   October 16th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

There ain't wrong with Bill fundarising for Deeds, and he's behind in the polls and with Bill helping him out, it can suit him well.

Whatever he can do and help him out will all depend on how much Bill can imeliorate his chances but if I would to guess, I'd say not right now. Deeds will have it tough and Bill is popular no matter what, he can raise money for you and for the Dems in particualr. Whether how much or how far he can go will depend greatly on his campaign strategy and maybe Bill is right, he should run a good campaign, not a negative one.

As of right now, Deeds chances are not as good as some will people will predict but who knows in the long term. Maybe if Bill shows a lil exposure it can help him...and not that exposure, if you know what I mean, :)

Diane Dagenais Turbide   October 16th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

If Deeds does not have any positive comments, better start understanding the positive changes from the current administration!!!

Diane Dagenais Turbide   October 16th, 2009 10:49 pm ET

Deeds should listen and consider the experience of positive comments!

Henry Miller, Libertarian, Cary, NC   October 16th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

The Dems must be getting desperate in Virginia–Barry and Slick Willie rooting for Deeds?

Actually, they do have a lot riding on it–next month is going to be a decent preview of 2010.

Elliot   October 16th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Clinton will also be in Rio Grande Valley, Texas on Thursday, October 22nd! The RGV is one of the few remaining dominantly-democratic areas in this "republican" state.

worriedmom   October 16th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Don't waste your time Bill. Mr. Deeds has already informed Virginians that he will raise taxes for road construction. Just want we want to hear!!! All Mr. Deeds can prove he has done is to run a dirty campaign with smears and no substance!
McDonnell for Governor!

Margaret   October 16th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Too late, Bubba. Your party has caused the biggest deficit since WWII, Obama has a youth czar who extolls the virtues of NAMBLA, the White House has called out a major news organization for exposing its graft, the Congress won't stop the spending and cramming legislation down our throats. You have forgotten this is a democracy.

It is waaaaay too late. We'd like our country back.

proud dem in nc   October 16th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

You go Bill. The Dems may not win in Va. but people are seeing the Repiglicans for what they are. The party of no solutions who just throw bricks and hammer away at Obama all day. He's trying to clean up after the disaster that was the Bush administration. Clowns like Beck, Insantiy, Coulter et. al. are right wing nuts that spew out their hate, and bigotry with a smirk. Then they call themselves patriots and Christians. Fat chance. Losers and traitors all!!

Maestroh   October 16th, 2009 9:58 pm ET

Deeds is hiring the guy who destroys Democrats everywhere he goes. Bill Clinton has never been able to deliver for OTHER people. Deeds must be throwing this election.

One more thing: I'm guessing that this is the first crack in that supposed permanent retirement of the GOP.

Bren   October 16th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

And, the Democrats are worried about New Jersey as well......as their Governor's election is on the same day (Nov 4)!! The Republican is leading in New Jersey by 4 points-and New Jersey is even a Democrat stronghold state. They are so worried about losing New Jersey--that Biden, Clinton AND Obama are going there to campaign next week. The Republican candidate in Virginia is leading between 7-9 points.

not alone   October 16th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

least when Bill left office this country was running very nicely, you can't even say that about Bush jr or sr.

Annie, Atlanta   October 16th, 2009 9:27 pm ET

How, in this country, can a man who holds a belief that women belong in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant (McDonnell) be elected and paid out of the good people of Virginia's hard earned tax dollars? How does this happen? Do people not pay attention and just vote for party no matter the consequences? Do some people still hold these beliefs? Do some people not care that at least half of their citizens won't even be respected by their governor? Tell me, how does this happen.

Obama fan...not!   October 16th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

The Dems need to win one race somewhere, so they can have CNN trumpet "mixed results" in the 2009 election cycle. Right now they are looking at a shutout!

Bill from Northern, VA   October 16th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

no one can save Deeds at this point. He is an empty suit.

julie in atlanta   October 16th, 2009 8:51 pm ET

Bring on the big dog...MISS YA, BILL!

Brian from NJ   October 16th, 2009 8:47 pm ET

LacrosseMom

If you are going to constantly yell at people, then get your facts straight!

I am a fiscal conservative who did not vote for Bush, but I will tell you that his spending did NOT cause the financial crisis. The leading cause was the housing market bubble hursting. In October 2003 Bush tried to fix that problem by changing the rules regulating Fannie and Freddie. But his attempts were, ready for this, OBSTRUCTED by the Democrats, Barney Frank in particular. And it was on Clinton's watch that the bill deregulating the banks was made into law, even though Phill Gramm warned that if they did not do something about the mortgage industry it would lead to a financial meltdown in the future.

Also, the 45K people die from being uninsured number you keep quoting is from an analysis done by David Himmelstein, co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, a group dedicated to the single payer solution. Not exactly an unbiased opinion and there is no proof that the people he studied were uninsured throughout the duration of his study. The report was released September 18th (just a coincidence, like the insurance industry's report, right?)

For the 2010 election cycle, the insurance companies haven given 56% of their contributions to Democrats... the Democrats are the ones in the pockets of the insurance industry, NOT the Republicans.

Ray E.   October 16th, 2009 8:41 pm ET

One would ask just what does Clinton want? Why is he still out there ? Hasn't the people rejected his brand of politics?

You should know by now that the Liberals and Democrats want to run the Country but they want the Conservatives and Republicians to pay for it. That's been working out real well hasen't it?

70 plus years and a 12 Trillion dollar National Debt. What does your paycheck look like after taxes. Do you want to pay more of your taxes for the Welfare State??? If so continue to vote Democrat.

Gary P.   October 16th, 2009 8:36 pm ET

Why don't the Democrats send Jimmy Carter to Virginia to campaign for their boy? Nobody knows what might come out of old Jimmy's mouth these days–not even him.

T M   October 16th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

At Least we had some Surplus!! Thanks to Bill He Made it Happen!!

New Father   October 16th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Maybe he can explain to Virginia how sucessful this country can be with a Dem prez and republicans in charge of everything else. I am so glad that Dems have the majority after getting rid of the repubs who had a spending. How is that working out? 1.4 trillion debt, real unemployment 17%, and lots of US jobs going overseas, congrats America

Wise Latina   October 16th, 2009 7:53 pm ET

FANTASTIC!! Bubba has one of the absolute WORST track records for the candidates that he actively supported. Simply great news for the GOP!

LacrosseMom   October 16th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

To Dan in TX: Sir, what are you talking about? ALL politicians campaign. Are you GOPers daft?

jules sand-perkins   October 16th, 2009 7:23 pm ET

Virginia needs McDonnell: a great state deserves a Republican govenor.

Debbie   October 16th, 2009 7:05 pm ET

If the women of Virgina vote for Bob McDonnell they will deserve everything that will happen to them. They will lose more and more rights and opportunities. They have the power of their votes to protect themselves...only time will tell if the women of Virginia will stand up for themselves or give up.

Let's Go, Democrats   October 16th, 2009 6:50 pm ET

Good, we need every loyal Dem to get out their and support the ticket. We've been waiting for twelve long years to get something done, and now is the time.

The president and decent Americans need your help, from the greedy, lying warmongering GOP, who want to take the taxpayer dollars and let other people protect this country.

ib   October 16th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

Deeds is the worst thing that could happen to Va. Where have the last two tax increases that were the largest in the history of the state gone? Deeds has already said he will raise our taxes in this state again if he is elected. Va. can't afford Deeds. NO DEEDS

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   October 16th, 2009 6:42 pm ET

Thanks Bill Clinton, America needs your help stop all Bush look alikes.

just truth   October 16th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

southerncousin   October 16th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

Clinton & Obama the two biggest slugs and most dishonest people we have ever had as POTUS pulling for Deeds. That will really say something if he wins or loses won't it. Go McDonnell, beat the libertards.

victim of republican greed   October 16th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

I wish the republicans would take their party back from the wingnuts.

Glen Beck is Rush Limbaugh's Evil Spawn   October 16th, 2009 5:59 pm ET

All of you Republican't who keep yammering about how your party is going to win and win big in 2010 and how your going to win back the White House in 2012 . . . .get a clue! It's going to take a MUCH bigger approval rating for Republican'ts in Congress than 22% to win ANYTHING! Understand this . . . .most Americans don't think like you any more!

victim of republican greed   October 16th, 2009 5:57 pm ET

I always wondered if McDonnell's views of women's rights is the official stance of the right wingnuts.

Oy Vey   October 16th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

Why do you Rethuglicans insist that it's your money being spent. Where did you get it all from ? Cashing in aluninum cans? Or selling old car parts from the wreck in your front yard? Or maybe it was from defrauding the government out of your dead uncle's social security check ?

Or is it that you are totally against any money being spent ... unless it's being spent on you ... (excuse me) ... Y'all

victim of republican greed   October 16th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Hey wingnut from Indiana, how did Bush's $800 billion bank bailout work out? Didn't it add to Bush's deficit that Obama inherited?

Don't cry for me Argentina.

Dan, TX   October 16th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

All are jokers and Deeds will be defeated. We do not need democrats anywhere anymore. They have face to campaign when our economy is going down and no jobs are created. Bring it on.. You will get a lesson now during this election.

Glen Beck is king of the morons   October 16th, 2009 5:51 pm ET

Thanks bill,great job.

Deuce   October 16th, 2009 5:49 pm ET

You still listening CNN??? He will fall Barack Obama, just like the Berlin Wall. But one hell of a lot faster...

LacrosseMom(stuck in moderation)   October 16th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

WHERE were ALL .... YOU..... fiscal conservatives when BUSH was spending our nation into a financial crisis?

When Bush was hiding the cost of the wars? I did not hear the GOPers complaining about Bush doubling the national debt!

I seriously doubt, that after EIGHT YEARS of a GOP president, who almost destroyed our Nation; and SEVEN YEARS of a GOP controlled Congress ..... that America would vote GOP again!

We, the People KNOW WHO IS ON OUR SIDE, AND WHO IS ON THE SIDE OF....... BIG INSURANCE, BIG PHARMA AND BIG OIL!

vic nashville , Tn   October 16th, 2009 5:45 pm ET

For Democrats Bill Clinton is campaigning

Will G.W.Bush campaign for republicans?

Aha

Deuce   October 16th, 2009 5:44 pm ET

Again! "The Crawler Obama is useing Bushes name in vain> While CNN allow it to happen. You wonder CNN why I throw my Garbage at you. You deserve it... I am sick and tired of listening to this idiot on your channel. So why am I still here. To bring you down along side him.. When Obama falls So will CNN I will make sure of that. You continue to support this Idiot, and I will continure to bring Down your Communications..

indiana voter   October 16th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Yes, let's get more Democrats in power so they can spend more of our money. Even though the U.S. deficit was sent to an all time high of -1.4 Trillion by this Democrat administration, we still need to be spending more because we as Democrats still have not destroyed the country enough. We need to destroy it state by state by keeping Democrats in power on the state level as well.

@victim of republican greed,

You are the perfect example of a liberal who has got their facts all mixed up, and looks the fool by letting the world know at every opportunity. I fell sorry for you. You must be a miserable person to be around.

Ron   October 16th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

First Gore, now the cigar man. Wow, Deeds must really want to lose this race.

TH   October 16th, 2009 5:31 pm ET

And Clinton is supposed to help Deeds. Does anyone remember this is the former President that lied through his teeth to the America public and got away with it? This is the President that was screwing everyone in his office/cabinet and he thinks he will help someone get elected? What a joke!

Mike in MN   October 16th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

This one is over. It is a Republican win and a rejection of the direction Obama and the Democrats are trying to take this country. Can't wait for 2010.

File under "Sarcasm"   October 16th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Wow, call out the big guns of the Democrat Party. This guy Deeds must be pretty important to merit visits by President Clinton, President Obama, Vice President Biden and former Vice President Al Gore. I don't know how they overlooked the Democrats' senior statesman, President Jimmy Carter. I'm sure he could somehow tie Deeds trailing campaign to racisim or some global conspiracy. (I wonder if they fight over who gets the biggest teleprompter. Also, isn't it sexist if they don't bring Hillary or Nancy?)

victim of republican greed   October 16th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

Go Bill, go! Help put a stop to the American Taliban.

Randolph Carter   October 16th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

In that picture you chose of Clinton, is that word his head is covering up supposted to say "fornicator"? Have a gr8 day and fart some rainbows.
