(CNN) - Meghan McCain is breaking her silence following a wave of media attention over a picture she posted on Twitter Wednesday night.

The revealing picture of herself in a tank top, which left little to the twitterverse's imagination, immediately drew harsh criticism from other tweeters, prompting an upset McCain to declare of the social networking Web site, "What once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment."

The 24-year old daughter of Arizona Sen. John McCain didn't address the matter in more detail on her twitter account Thursday, but in a new column on the Web Site The Daily Beast - entitled Don't Call Me a Slut - she lashes out at the national media's scrutiny of the whole flap.

Earlier: Meghan McCain runs into backlash over photograph

"I spent most of the next day thinking about what exactly was so shocking about the picture, why there was such an immediate and nasty overreaction," McCain writes. "After all, it's not like I was caught making a sex tape. I certainly didn't pose nude for Playboy. And I hadn't even exposed a nipple."

"To be honest, I don't feel that I have anything to feel ashamed of. I've always embraced my curves and will continue to do so," she added.

McCain also accuses the media of having a double standard, celebrating photos of attractive male congressmen with their shirts off while criticizing her.

Ultimately though, McCain says she's not ready to give up Twitter just yet. Rather, she says she'll just be "more judicious" in how she uses it.

It is true that the photo is somewhat risque. However, many of the nasty comments from people are extremely sexist & show the continuing negative opinions and double standard that still exist for women in this country today. It is OK for men to walk around without shirts or to have their baggy pants hanging down, but if a woman dares to show part of her chest, everyone explodes.

As a diehard Democrat I don't agree with Meghan McCain's politics but I do heartily believe both she and her mother Cindy are two very classy ladies. Hold your head high Meghan, you can't control others thoughts and actions but you can control your own thoughts and reactions.

MannyG   October 16th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Ms McCain,

There is nothing to apologize for, just narrow minded individuals venting because their life's suck. You are a breath of fresh air!

YBM   October 16th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

This whole Obama thing is real fishy. I am no Hillary Clinton fan but Obama should never have been able to beat her in the primaries. A first term junior Senator that spent his first two years voting present and his last two years campaigning for the office of President, against Hillary's experience and popularity? and winning???? That by itself smells, but then to win the presidency of the US??? This whole situation is rank. No thinking or intelligent person would have voted for this guy. I guess it shows the dumbing down of America is working. America is being sent the same way the Roman Empire went and for the same reasons. Only a lot faster. At least the Roman's had a thousand years or so.

Dave   October 16th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I rarely pass up an opportunity to criticize Republicans, but I can't really find any reason here to criticize Meghan McCain. As a liberal, I see this as irrelevant. As as single guy, I like what I see.

CNN how about reporting on some real news!

Carlos   October 16th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Yes I think it was terrible of her to post that picture of herself and I'm going to look at it again to be sure.

Dean   October 16th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

With all of the problems that this country faces, I find it astounding that people who post about why CNN isn't covering all of the problems in this country have time to comment about Meghan's picture. It was supposed to be a picture of what she was reading, not what everyone's eyes decided to focus on. I guess it isn't just men that focus on cleavage. Get a life people (envious women included).

Bridget   October 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Cut her some slack. This is a 24-year-old young woman who has grown up in the Facebook and Myspace generation where everyone posts pictures of themselves without thinking the entire world's going to see or care about it. I'm not surprised that she's taken aback with the response. It's like she wishes she were a regular person and if she tries really hard to be a regular 24-year-old, then she will magically become one. But she's not a regular person like the rest of us. Kinda sad actually.

DLG   October 16th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

I am certainly not a big fan of the Republicans, but I have to admit that if the Republican party was more like the McCain's, including Meghan, and less like the Cheney's, it would be credible both in it's humanity and its cerebral skills.

Meghan's self depiction of her own body is certainly something that can be judged as part of her public persona, but personally the picture made me smile. Yes she was being casual, but she was posting about spending time on her own. Yes maybe we should start recognizing that sharing all of our personal details is exposure that most people are uncomfortable with, but she comes from a generation that has been videotaped since birth, and has been in the public view more than any other. We have to start accepting that privacy is not really compelling to youths. They want to be seen. They want to be acknowledged.

What should she be embarassed by? Her body? What century are we in? That she is reading a book at home? Well thats probably just as scary for some. The idea of a beautiful intellectual political sophisticated woman can't entirely be comfortable to a certain group.

I don't think Meghan needs our support. I think she can take care of herself. But the rest of us should probably recognize what bothers us about this and deal with our own perception rather than trying to judge someone who has harmed no one, and who tends to come off as genuinely caring about the future. I would prefer that all the women and men of her generation were as capable.

Tada

Poor stupid liberals have to go after Meghan McCain instead of watching your boy Obama and his dismantling of America.

Independent_me   October 16th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Meghan – ignore them!
The ones who are attacking you are the Republicans whom you pissed off earlier this year.
You need to leave that hypocritical Party!

Jason   October 16th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

If this country feels the photo of Meghan McCain was bad, then we as a society are as closed minded as the Taliban in Afghanistan....She took a sexy pic of herself, get over it...

goodpyr   October 16th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

She wanted some attention.Instead of using an intellectual approach.
Out come the boobs.A real Feminist.

djdjdjs   October 16th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Sounds like the dem's love her. Me too.

It's obviously her repub friends who made this a big deal.

Joe Seidler   October 16th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

The reason for the strong reaction to Megan's photo is clear. The right wing of the conservative party doesn't like her, and they love to use "dirty" pictures as a way to get at their detractors.

These people are so hung up over nudity and sex (their priests and parents have been filling them with how dirty it is since they were born, so now they believe it), that they can't be objective about it. They have no ability to be rational about deciding what is silly, or art, and what is pornography. To them, everything is porn. They live in a very small world.

Sophia   October 16th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

She should be ashamed! Ashamed that she is Republican, that its. Otherwise, she looks fabulous. Leave her alone.

MikeH   October 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

What'd she expect? Republicans eat their young and wounded.

If Mehgan lost about 20 lbs, she'd be stunningly beautiful.

Ray   October 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Leave the girl alone. so what if she posted a picture of her-self in a tank top . god blessed her with big boob`s and she is not ashamed of her body. I dont see what all the fuss is about. if you dont like the picture, dont look.

Jenn, Philadelphia   October 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

This is not political or news. Why is it on CNN's political ticker?

Independent   October 16th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Oh honestly, people make a big deal out of any little thing. I'm a democrat with some conservative leanings and Meghan is an inspiration for me that the Republican Party hasn't quite become a fossil just yet. She did absolutely nothing wrong, it's not a crime to be proud of your figure. More power to you Meghan, one of the only sensible Republicans of today that I've met.

Gary   October 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

I'm curious as to the blaming the public media for the uproar re: the twitter posting. It seems that the GOP folks do not like the press unless it's something in their favor. Palin's complaint against the press was that the media was out to destroy her and her family until she called her own press conference and controlled who asked what question. Same for Bush and Cheney both. So what if the young lady wears a tank top; she's comfortable in her own home and what she wears is her own business. But to blame the public news media when something doesn't go as planned is bordering on attempted censorship.

mjm   October 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

I thought she looked good.

Who do you think has bigger boobs...Meghan or the Democratic party?

jeff   October 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Meghan,

You probably should have looked a little more at that pic before you listed it, but hey it's not that bad really. As a matter of fact you looked pretty smokin hot. If you wanted to share that with everyone, then I don't seen any issue. Other folks in the spotlight show off too, if they got it. You're just 24, now is the time to shine. No big deal, well not small either, lol.

piscatawayconoy   October 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

That picture was awesome. Absolutely, positively awesome.

Beaver   October 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

MobsterNadia   October 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Also all you liberal idiots out there who thinks this dumb moron s/b the "voice" of the Repub, think again. You don't want Repubs to have a say in your Party so why should any of u have a say!

Better yet why don't u worry about the voices in your own party!! Seems to me there is NO concensus at all!!!

Stuart   October 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

What is it with you people? You'd think she posed nude the way many of you are acting. Big deal on what she had on. It's clothes and she is clothed. Anyone who has a problem with the picture must be living a very sheltered life. Just because you may not wear a top like that, doesn't mean everyone has to follow what you do. GROW THE (place your own word here) UP

dmcd   October 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

I'm so sick of this stupidity.
Can we please talk about something that matters.

brian   October 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

To all those who are saying 'NOT NEWS'... really? She's the daughter of the former GOP Presidential nominee and is very active in politics herself. When exactly then would this become news? When she DOES make a sex tape? If you don't think its new that's fine, but do you really think you blurting out 'NOT NEWS' will make CNN not run these stories lol... since when did sex NOT sell? Get real!

Tony   October 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

I barely made it past the first sentence. Jeez this is a boring story.

Stay sexy, sweetheart!

MobsterNadia   October 16th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

JP   October 16th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

CNN, Why are you letting the republican trolls continue to bash this girl on your website and your airwaves? That's all this story is doing. Anyone with a hint of common sense should understand that we all are alive to "live our lives", and to penalize others for being alive, well, that's just sad. Republican's don't even respect that she is part of their party. This is just pathetic partisanship from the republicans...OVER NOTHING!

SCOT   October 16th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

Bill from Michigan   October 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

I am and will always be a democrat but I do have a crush on Meghan McCain. We might not agree on some issues but she is smart, brave and gorgeous. I agree with her, she did not show anything in that photo that would be considered indecent, this is so stupid specially with all the major problem we are going through. Meghan if you read this, I LOVE YOU! Marry Me!

Ron   October 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Have you seen the picture? There is far less revelaed there than one would see on night-time television or on magazine covers at the checkout of the local grocery store. I really don't understand the comment "which left little to the twitterverse's imagination". What is the big deal here? Please, please, please, stick to the real news.

Go Obama   October 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Last time I checked women got to wear what they wanted to and don't have to wear burkas. I might disagree with almost everything Meghan McCain says but she is right in this case.

Matt   October 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Meghan McCain is so hot. That picture wasn't even that bad.

Nick   October 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

The last time I was in Greece I remarked to my to my wife how much cleavage Greek women show compared to American women. She looked at me like I was an idiot and lectured me as to European women being proud of their bodies, while American women are afraid what other people think of their bodies. Good for Meghan, she obviously has a healthy dose of self esteem.

Valerie R.   October 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Oh come on!!!! She is 24 years old. Give her a little break.
And why is it such a big deal, a young woman posting a photo?

ronie patrick   October 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

By the way drop some weght. You are much to big for your arms to show and your age you look much older than you are. Cut your hair and tone yourself down and read some books and get yourself smart before you return to the scene. People make fun of you and that hurts even me.

Brad   October 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

That's what you get when you broadcast pictures of yourself. I don't get how people can use Twitter/Facebook etc. and then get upset when people judge them? She wanted attention, she got it, now she's whining.

midwest liberal   October 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

In this time of very serious problems, it's a hilarious and yet very sad statement that people choose to focus on something so UNimportant as a picture of a woman in a tanktop. Will these same people protest the dress and objectification women in things like beer commercials? Music videos? Will they protest as loudly against the subjugation and outright torture of women in foreign cultures? Doubtful. That fact alone makes this supposed outrage even more pathetic, petty and insincere.

Alex   October 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

I agree with you Megan!

Unfortunately you are a face of the Republican party. A party of angry white men who want to put intelligent, beautiful outspoken women like yourself – and as they said about Speaker Pelosi – "in her place".

Uh.....   October 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

The pic is what it is..I could care less. But for her to act like she innocently posted the pic not expecting a reaction is insulting to people educated beyond the 3rd grade.

ronie patrick   October 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Maybe Meghan this is a sign for you to just leave the Political scene and start enjoying your young life as a regular person doing regular things. You are really not welcome with some of your comments and that just make you a target for player haters to jump on you. You are beautiful, young and sometimes you can be smart but for the most part you usually put both feet in your mouth and place unattractive pictures and that make you a target for people to pick on you. You really put yourself in this position so deal with it. If I were you I would lay low and date enjoy your life and have fun and not be the voice of the Republican party for now. You don't know enough to be out front.

vic nashville , Tn   October 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

mike   October 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

Why can't a republican be intelligent and smoking hot? Can't understand why people think what Megan did was inappropriate, this is a new world you idiots, love it or take a hike!

Him   October 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

This is silly. She is a woman. A pretty woman. She has breast, again – she is a WOMAN – she is SUPPOSED to have them. They are large. So. She is wearing an extremely common piece of clothing – a tank-top. So. It is absolutely incredible to me that people care this much about a completely appropriate Rated G pic; I mean this very seriously: Is there nothing better in your life to do or care about OTHER than this just-another-pic picture of someone. Sometimes I start to feel embarrassed for other people and their beliefs and behaviors.... after reading some of these posts, I am SOOOO happy I live in a well-educated, secular and down-to-earth environment surrounded by honest people with integrity and no false pride or opinion-based "intellect"....

If she was unattractive, this wouldnt be NEARLY as much of an issue. You have the mongrels on the feminists side, the deniers and on the religous kick and inferior psuedo-prudes that cover just about every criticziser, including the aforementioned.

Ray   October 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

"...left little to the imagination"? Gimme a break, it was a picture of a woman in a tank-top. Get over it!

LacrosseMom(stuck in moderation)   October 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

NO ONE is perfect. Good grief!

"AnOldTexasLass"   October 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

What is with people anymore that they think they have to put somebody else down or try to degrade someone just to make themselves feel superior? There is no civility, there is no self control, there is no class or responsibility, there is no common sense.

For heaven sake, people, treat others the way you would want to be treated. Be a good example. It doesn't cost anything to be nice.

A wonderful man who was a famous professional musician once said to me when I inquired if it bothered him that people were interrupting our dinner & his personal time for autographs– "Nawww, without them, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the things I do. And it doesn't cost anything to be nice to people, and they'll always remember you for it." That last sentence has stuck with me for close to 40 years now, and it makes just as much sense today as it did back then.

Be nice to people!!!!

Mike   October 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Do what you want and live your life to the fullest

chris   October 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I agree that you invite scrutiniy when you use your fathers popularity to gain fame. However it is disgusting to see CNN's one-sided coverage. Megan Mccains tank top picture showing cleavage warrants two days on the front page? Bristol Palin's baby daddy a regular on the front page? CNN is no better than Foxnews when it chooses to spend resources on this crap.

Matt in T.Dot   October 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Not a fan of the GOP, but I'm a fan of Meghan. Intelligent, poignant, thought-provoking. To have to defend herself over these pics is ludicrous, and I think people are genuinely jealous that they aren't nearly as attractive as she is when she lounges in seats and tank tops. She should really just not even respond and move on. Intelligent people know this is absolute nonsense and have her back.

Ron Martin   October 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Lighten up people. She is 24 years old. Her dad ran for president not her.

James A. Primrose   October 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Who cares? She's 24. Last time I looked, that qualifies the person as an adult. Its her business. Why is it that every bored American – and there seems to be a lot of them – feels compelled to comment and preach about anything to do with sexual behavior, religion or gays/lesbians? Yet we could have a crisis of unmitigated proportions with another country and 90% of those commenters suddenly would have no opinion, couldn't voice an opinion, or wouldn't know where the crisis was. We are a nation whose popular priorities never cease to amaze me.

Alexander Reyes   October 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Dear Ms. McCain,

The flap over your recent Twitter photo has little to do with the national media and everything to do with the Puritan ethics still held by too many members of your Republican Party. That those ethics have been exposed over and over again through the years as utterly hypocritical (see the last several sex scandals suffered by the leaders of the Republican righteous) is obvious to all Americans. I hope that the Republican Party's utter corruption will soon become obvious to you, and that you will enjoy the growing millions of your fellow Americans who realize that their own ethics are best un-compromised by declaring themselves as independents (or, in my home state of California, as "Decline to Staters")!

justin   October 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Enough with this idiot. Is this what CNN is really about?

Foreigner that watches? CA   October 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Funny reading the posts from right-wingers blaming the left for the criticism. It really is an amazing ability to project one's negative emotions to another...

Limbaugh blames the President for him being dropped by the RAM buying group.

Funny how the right talk abut personal responsibility, but doesn't take any for themselves.

For the record, it's the CONSERVATIVES that are criticizing her picture, not the liberals... But the right shouldn't let facts get in the way of their opinions, because as everyone knows – facts have a liberal bias. LMAO

Troy   October 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Meghan i would say do not worry about what people say! Who cares you know the truth and most people would agree with you, I believe you are a good person and I definetly would not loose sleep over their ignorant remarks!

John J, IN   October 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Just goes to show you that the only thing Conservatives care about, is being right – not matter what the consequences. They would rather the entire world burn around them, than compromise with sane people. So much so they will go after members of their own political party (McCain, Meg. McCain, Powell, Graham, etc) thus destroying any credibility they have.

What a hypocritical joke this "conservative movement" is.

What   October 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

Amazing sexist double standard. So called Headline News stories show celebrities exposing much more skin. CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc, all posted pictures of the president without a shirt. Where are the woman's rights groups on this issue? This is absurd. McCain's picture was G rated, you see more skin in PG13 Disney cartoons designed for 8 year olds.

Marco   October 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

You have nothing to be apologizing for Meghan the blasted media just loves to put anybody on the spotlight. Keep embracing your curves because you are one attractive woman.

Too True For You   October 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

What a crock of ka-ka. The only people complaining about this are the uptight, looking-for-any-reason-to-jump-on-the-hate-bandwagon morally-conceited fundamentalist nincompoops. I guess the WWJD bracelets are out of fashion now, or they just forgot what the letters stood for, or maybe they just delight in throwing the first stone.

Craig Nazor   October 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Everyone wants to make everything political! Her picture shows nothing more than I see every day teaching at a college. For those who are still wondering, yes, women have breasts. Imagine that.

Meghan is a very rare commodity at the moment – a spontaneous, likeable, and honest Republican. Imagine that!

Holly   October 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

There are some things that are appropriate and some that are not. If you want to do whatever you want, then do it from a Hollywood platform, not a political one. Maybe I'm "Old school" or "right wing" but I was taught that how you behave will directly effect how respected or NOT respected you'll be by others. I do not believe this photo is indicitive of someone vying for a politcal platform, it does not represent good judgement and certainly does not represent the image of someone I want vetting Washington on my behalf. If you want to be the voice of the people you must rise above the image of the people! When did we get to the point that we, as a Nation, accepted any behavior, judgement, or scandal from our elected officials? I agree with live and let live...but in contrast to someone acting on behalf of the people, live by a higher standard. If you want to be "normal" then be "normal." No one questions "dress code" at their place of employment. Why? Because dressing that way is reflective of whatever position you hold. If you're a lawyer you better wear a suit to court, if you're a construction worker, a hard hat. The same should apply to those in the political arena. You can't act like a regular 24 yr old, dress like a regular 24 yr old. You're NOT a regular 24 yr old. You're a public figure, stand on and CONTINUE to use a public political platform and seek the support of the people...act like it!

Chad   October 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Meghan , Hang in there you are the real hope for the Republican Party, don't let the elitists and religious right judge you!!

Julia   October 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

One of the hazards of the public nature of social networking sites on the internet, Meghan. If you can't handle the comments find something else to do for entertainment.

MLH   October 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Dave   October 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I don't think that picture is all that scandalous. A lot of people need to get a life – which I guess goes without saying if they spend a lot of time on Twitter.

ThinkAgain   October 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

The reason Meghan McCain is getting this attention is because of her father and her own desire to put herself out there as a public figure.

Which is all fine. I have no problem with the photo, either – she's a lovely young woman.

The problem is all these prudish GOP folks who want their women submissive and in a burkah.

Jake Klipp   October 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Americans are so uptight about sex, breasts and all that good stuff. You are modern progresive nation of adults, you should act like it.

Grahame   October 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

It says an awful lot about the American Education system when a womans breasts are more important than what's in her head. Or in this case not much it seems. However, I feel so sorry for these Bible Thumping Southern Idiots. It was you, after all, who created Jim Jones and Michael Corresh plus any other sect that has come out of anywhere south of Mason Dixon. Any looney tunes fringe group seems to hatch in the South. So when Meghan McCain shows off her boobs this is the kind of stupid reaction from you folks. Just an uneducated pile of manure, all of you.

Big Joe   October 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Way to go Meghan! The Democratic Party would be wise to be wary of you. Brains and Beauty! I always admire your sense of youth and openness. It was a relaxed moment shared with the world. It's too bad too many people took it for other than what it was. Lucky would be the man next to you!!

dennhonu   October 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

I applaud you Meghan! Politcally, our views are about 180 degrees apart, but I've always admired your intelligence, efforts to make positive changes in the Republican Party, and your stunning beauty. The negative, lewd, distasteful comments about you tell me a lot about those criticizing you and nothing about you. I expect to see great things from you on behalf of our country in the future!

MD   October 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Sorry Meghan, they never liked you. You are just another in a long line of women that the left has used when it's convenient, Sheehan and Hillary to name two. They also have no use for conservative women and will destroy them in any number of despicable and sexist ways.

normajean   October 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

This whole story is ridiculous. At least she had clothes on which is becoming unusual if you look at the ads and fashion mags. You can't pick up any reading material these days without seeing women that leave nothing to the imagination. In fact, check out the teenagers in the mall.I hate to say this but could it be because she is an "up and coming" member of the political scene?

"I had hoped that liberal and enlightened thought would have reconciled the Christians so that their religious fights would not endanger the peace of society"

Slowly but surely, the puritains have let it be known "they want their country back." Welcome Ms. McCain to friendly cross-fire.

Johnny F   October 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

If Megan was a Democrat, CNN would have never run this as a story. But seeing as she comes from a prominent Republican (well, sort of anyway...) family, she is fair game for any type of smear / controversy they can generate. Typical left wing, typical main stream media... She did nothing wrong.

James_MO   October 16th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Meghan needs to understand the Republicans eat their own. No harm, no foul over here on the left. There is room for one more. Leave the judgemental, "Get a life"ers behind.

Michelle   October 16th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter and I feel that people should back off of Meghan. It was not that serious. I see more revealing stuff at the beach. Get over it!

Scott   October 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

I saw that picture. It's not even risque. 'Leaving little to the imagination' is a HUGE overstatement – her bathing suit probably reveals much more.

Her politics are one thing. But this.. this should be a non-issue. Get over it America.

brian   October 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

The photo showed less than 20% of her chest squeezed over the top towards her chin. This is hardly racy, or news by any standards.

Bugl3t   October 16th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

This incident is what ails the internet with applications like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. .. and I am speaking as a developer AND a parent and grandparent.

Too often the images and text of posts to such "social" sites are placed without thought for the future. As a public person and a young lady, Mehgan McCain should surely be aware of the consequences of public action... but more importantly, she SHOULD have thought about the impression she was making on her readers - WHATEVER their age.

It was and is - an opportunity to explore the problems of faceless communities and anonymous postings as well as the responsibilities of a role model.

Andrew   October 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Why is this news?

Madi Brooks-Miller   October 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Bananarama Victim II: Electric Boogaloo   October 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Shut up conservatives! Learn to read before commenting. It was not liberal hate, it was republican puritains.

I repeat, democrats have ALWAYS been at the forefront of EVERY movement for women's rights. Republicans have historically dragged their feet into each new decade and way of thinking, begrudgingly accepting social changes.

But now that they have computers, obviously they can't be bothered to read a story or at least research it's facts before launching an ill-informed comment or opinion. Surprise, surprise.

NJ Mom   October 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Meg, I am a very open minded person and not a prude. But I am also a mom. And I believe you should not expose your chi-chi's for all to see in revealing outfits. Too much information. Like I tell my teenagers, don't text/tweet/send images of your privates that you'd feel uncomfortable with the whole world seeing. You are too old to be so immature. You wanted the attention so deal with it.

Caral from SoCal   October 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Hey, Meghan – my daughter is just a little younger, wears exactly that same tank top (I think) around her room while she is reading books, too! (We're in CA, so it's short-shorts emblazoned w/ her university's logo, not sweats). Honestly, the loud noise you hear is from people who are haters. I suspect you would hold the book in a different spot next time. I get it, most of the world gets it. I'm pretty conservative – but my only disagreements with you will be on social issues, not this pic.

Taylor   October 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Sorry republicans. Its not the "Left", "Liberal" or "The media" attacking her. Its her own Conservative base. These seem to be the "real" issues that get the right all fired-up. Or whatever, Bill, Beck and Hannity say they need to go nuts over.

Terry   October 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

OK, this is not "news". But Megan McCain is the daughter of John McCain. She has put herself out there in the media spotlight speaking out on republican issues. She must know that her behavior would invite scrutiny from the public.
She is either incredibly naive or desperate for attention for posting a provacative picture and being suprised that some have a negative reaction to it. She has a problem being alone at home with takeout for dinner so she wanted to stir up a little excitement in her dull life. Too bad.

Meghan McCain rocks. Seriously, and this is coming from an Obama voter, this woman just gets "it." She's smart, fun, and has a sense of humor. Unfortunately, the media doesn't.

Keep rocking, Meghan.

Mary   October 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

It just seems sad that today inthe U.Swsith all the things that are going wrong in the world, we have a young woman who came from a afluent family has nothing better to do then to parade her self and what she feels is a body worth looking at instead of doing something worth while with her life. Evidently her Fathers fame has gone to her head and she thinks she can take advantage of it, if she had worked harder on her education she would have realized that in fact no one really cares about her body and the others just feel sorry that her Dad got stuck ith what we kniow a spoiled brat with no future.
sorry for the dad.

Roorie   October 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

If you feel so insecure about yourself that you need to put a picture out in the public domain, you deserve whatever you get in criticism. What a shallow individual.

Don   October 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

Let's not blame the liberals for this. If Nancy Pelosi shows up on the beach in a thong, I believe we'll hear something on CNN about that too.

roger   October 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

Hey, she is a good looking woman with big boobs, you can tell that from almost any photo of her! Plus she has a lot more intelligence than 95% of the other republicans. All I can say is that the idiots who made such a big deal of her photo must not go to a beach, swimming pool, watch tv/movies, read magazines, or walk around town with ther eyes open! They will see a lot more doing those activities.

The Essential Republican   October 16th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

There is no place for sex appeal in this party!

Pete   October 16th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Seriously…..who cares! I am amazed that CNN has this as one of the TOP STORIES. What a JOKE. There is worse on primetime television EVERY night and we ACCEPTED a President who cheated on his wife IN THE WHITE HOUSE but this NON-NUDE picture is an issue? Only reason people care is because she is the daughter of a prominent Republican. GET A GRIP people. If she was the daughter of a Democrat she would be praised for "being proud of her body" or for "expressing herself". Just another example of the double standards that are now acceptable. This is simply CNN and their Democratic friends trying to smear someone they don't like.

Joe   October 16th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Who cares it is a picture of a young woman in a tank top and pushup bra.

Nothing to see here (except her which it wasn't a flattering picture TBH) move a long.

Unless we want to go back to a Puritan society.

Don   October 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Why are people blaming the media for all the attention this is getting? The media is reporting on the depth of the reaction to her twitter post, which is mostly followed, and commented on, by Republicans. So two things have made this "news": the picture itself, which right or wrong, anyone could have predicted flashing a mile of cleavage would cause a stir from her followers; and the magnitude of that stir. All of this happened before the media picked it up, so don't blame this on the media.

Anger!=VoteCount   October 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

I don't blame all the GOP-h8 going on... They would rather have a picture of Larry Craig in a bathroom stall instead...

Good Luck   October 16th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

Her photo was in poor taste, and probably ruined any chances of her "saving" the Republican Party.

Vouyer   October 16th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

...And on the 15th day...of October...I saw cleavage. And it was Good!

John   October 16th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

I thought this was the party of angry white males. Nothing anrgy or male about that picture.

Kelsey   October 16th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

Our entire world is full of double-standards, like it or not. If Meghan had been the daughter of an infamous rock-star, then this picture wouldn't be an issue. But she isn't. Because of her fathers government status she is held to higher expectations. It's not that we expect her to hide her curves, but she cannot post revealing photos without painting her family in a poor light. Everything she does comes back to her father. If she respects him then she should do whatever she can to be a rolemodel for young Republicans.

dawn   October 16th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

She definitly has no right posting those pictures. Go away meghan, lose about 50 pounds and THEN post some pictures.

Muckinello   October 16th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

On Real Time with Bill Maher
Paul Begala "Also Ronald Reagan spent the first two years of his presidency critcizing Jimmy Carter"
Meghan McCain "I don't know, I was not alive then"
Paul Begala "Well, I was not alive during the French Revolution but I know about it"
That exchange basically tells it all to the credentials that Meghan McCain has to be anything else than the daughter of a failed presidential candidate.

Martha Yates   October 16th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

Meghan–you're a beautiful girl, but as one of your fans with hopes that you have a place in the future governing this nation, I think you might want to tone it down a little.

Andi   October 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

But the GOP is ok with their guy Flake in nothing but shorts? Leave her alone. Twitter isn't exactly high-brow media. Maybe if people weren't so focused on looks, they wouldn't be so upset. She can do what she wants. It certainly isn't her fault the media made this a 'story'.

Mark T.   October 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Sigh....much ado about nothing. She's a woman so it should be no surprise to anyone she has breasts.

FightingDem   October 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

The current direction the religious right is taking will result in women wearing burkas if we allow them.

Meghan

Be proud, you are intelligent and attractive. Don't let this ruckus get to you. There are alot of moderate to liberal Americans that like what you have to say.

Dave   October 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

I'm not a fan of Republicans or the McCain family, but there was nothing wrong with the picture Meghan posted. You'd see as much in a modest bathing suit. The problem is, the GOP has turned into the American Taliban, and they're hung up about anything that even hints at sex. They'd probably love to see Meghan in some Baptist version of a burkha. I live in the South, I know what the religious right is like, and they'd LOVE to impose Taliban-like laws if they could get away with it.

Joey Michaels   October 16th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

Very left leaning liberal here. I don't often agree with Miss McCain, but I'll defend to the death her right to say what she wants – while wearing any outfit she wants. This controversy is a tempest in a c-cup.

JRS   October 16th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

Why does anyone care about this? Why is CNN even making this a story?

Pearlie   October 16th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Who cares if she is a Republican or Democrat, SHE IS FIRST AND FOREMOST A HUMAN BEING!!! I've seen worse pictures posted on public forums that no one gives two shades of crap about, but this girl is being vilified for her cleavage????

Grow Up, SHUT THE HELL UP, and leave this girl alone.

Roxan   October 16th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

GOP, you picked the wrong guy..and gal!   October 16th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

What is all the hoopla, that picture wasn't racy.

David   October 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

How cares is right. Women are critical because most of them only could wish they had half the equipment and looks of Meghan. Why shouldn't she want to appear sexy and attractive? She is. She's not the spokes person for any political party either. All those of you who come up with your astute criticisms, "Get a life". And any guy who has a problem with the view she offers....well, we won't even go there.

Sean   October 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Cut the young lady a break. She did nothing wrong.

And Mark, who's post is second from the bottom here, don't be an idiot. Sarah Palin receives the criticism she does because she's an unintelligent, blatantly dishonest, dangerous farce of a politician, not because she's some undeserving liberal whipping post. She's earned no respect, so she gets none. Megan McCain is far more worthy of respect. She won't be criticized by liberals like Palin is unless she does something to deserve it.

Elle   October 16th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

The reason some folks lashed out at her is because she's a hypocrite. She stands by her notion that she's so "conservative" but then goes out and acts the opposite. The reason many actors don't get slammed for it is obvious – they don't go around touting their conservative moral values and then show off their curves on a very obviously watched social networking site. Megan, you're just trying to get attention, so don't act like it's all a big shock. Dumb.

Erock   October 16th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

Nothing this woman does should be newsworthy. She hasn't done anything to justify her popularity except to be born into the right family. She's dumber than a sack of rocks.

Realistic   October 16th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

She is a beautiful young woman and she did nothing to be ashamed of unlike a lot of republicans now a days. I don't mind her picture at all and would like to see her pose for a magazine. Not playboy{ok maybe} but one where she can strut her stuff in a classy way. Your young, live it up but with class which is something that is lacking in the republican party, class..

What has America become? Where are our priorities? It is a sad commentary on what we have become when a non-provocative photo receives so much coverage and condemnation. Maybe we should condemn the JC Penney Sunday flyers for showing women in bras and panties. Time for Americans to get real and focus on what is really important!

LLM in MD   October 16th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

rachel leaver at Berkeley   October 16th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

HOW did McCain end up with a 24 year old daughter? I had no idea. Regardless, I could kick myself for voting for Obama. I think he should be impeached, he doesn't know what he's doing. That shows me how much power is allotted to the president unchecked. He can do whatever he wants. He is taking too many risks.

Maybe she should be president or even Michelle Obama.
I wanted Hilary, I am certain the country would not have such a high unemployment rate, steadily increasing to 12%, if Clinton were in office now. Thanks, CNN, for slandering Hilary so unabashedly during the election coverage! The token black with total of less than five years of political experience wins the nobel prize, bowls a 35, and creates a national debt in six months that will take 31 years to pay off! Great. I'm voting for HER next time!

The Voice   October 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Im a Democrat and personally, I lik the picture. Nice to see a Senator's daughter getting down. I don't think she should be insulted and on the other hand, she needs to stop whining about it.

YOU post a picture like that, you are going to get mixed opinions.

Can we get another one now, waist down though????!!!!

Bill   October 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Although I don't agree with many of Meghan's political positions, I think the outcry over her picture is ridiculous and politically motivated. I think if the truth be known, virtually all of us sit around our homes in more casual attire than we would probably go out on the town in, but this photo is far from pornographic. I wish these fanatical critics would get a life and realize you can see more racy things in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition than was on her post. Meghan, ignore these bozos and keep speaking your mind.

If your a woman, who is either smart and successful, like Sarah Palin or beautiful like Meghan, then you are fodder for the liberal fascists. They are threatened by the fact that you women, who are conservative, dont need the federal govt. or those leftist, dont shave my legs and armpits, women orgs. where they feel all women are victims. The libs are afraid that other women will be inspired to leave the democrat party, because the charade that Republicans are the party of white men is being exposed as a lie. we are taking down the wall of liberal sexism one brick at a time.

Scott Alexander   October 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

I don't think she's what she's accused of in this article. Now is she a "bad person" and bad role model based on her views...that's a different story. Doubtful she'll ever explain or defend herself based on her hateful comments she's made in the past (and will continue to make).

She is a young 24. I am sure half the people responding to this article don't know or won't acknowledge their daughter has pulled something similar. Leave her alone for being human. Leave her alone for having an opinion and just let her grow up. I don't see how because her father is a political figure we need to make her out as one too. Maybe someday, just not today.

Left little to the imagination? Whose imagination, a monk's? Remember when CNN would report on real stories and not a woman's cleavage or follow an empty balloon around for 3 hours? I don't, I was only 5 when this network became a joke.

Todd   October 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

A pretty young woman posts a pic on twitter showing her in a tank top and sweat pants and that's news? I have not seen the pics, but let's get real. One of my daughter's underage friends had a nude photo of herself on her Facebook page. I sent a complaint to Facebook (and tipped off the parents) to address, but why is CNN not all over those cases? Answer: It's not the Cable News Network anymore, it's the Chronic Nitwit Network.

Her fans that were calling her names for the photo are ignorant. She has nothing to be ashamed of, and good for her for speaking out.

----

I agree.

Aubrey   October 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

She was definitely showing off what she's got in that picture, so why is she getting 'upset' that people noticed? More power to her if she wants to celebrate being attractive, but she's making a bigger deal out of it more than the media is.

JohnMc your right on the money.

I know she's young, however, if she's suppose to be a young voice that leads, her judgment has to be better than that. She should have somd self respect and other will have respect for her.

There was no reason that picture was neccessary.

Johny   October 16th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

She posted the picture, and now she is mad because people are calling her names? Grow up and take some responsibility for your actions.

She is a beautiful woman. What's wrong with the picture, it is much better than looking at Brit's nether regions or Paris Hiltons sex tape.

John in VA   October 16th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

I'm not sure what it has to do with politics. Maybe they thought it was an important story because of the Twitter angle? I don't know too much about that either, I don't really have time to mess with it. Anyway, she's got a pretty face and some nice boobies. Needs to drop a few pounds though if she wants to catch a boyfriend. Which is why I am assuming she put the photo out there.

Annie, Atlanta   October 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Why do conservatives twist themselves into knots over a woman's cleavage? This is disturbing.

Margaret   October 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Charming comments all. No wonder Fox is ahead in the ratings...

In case you don't know it, CNN, this is NOT news.

RTB   October 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Is this supposed to be news? It's a story that really belongs in one of those rags you see at the supermarket.

Who cares   October 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

i haven't seen any of the actual "critical" comments in the news; it seems like legitimate news organizations are only reporting on the controversy that followed her post.

Regardless of the nature of the feedback, what did she expect? That no one would comment on a former presidential candidate's child publically posting a photo that looks like something a 16-year-old would send her boyfriend? I don't think the picture itself is anything bad, but it's unusual to put something like it out in the public and then resent people for reacting. She should grow up and accept that if she wants to be in the public eye, she should make herself useful and find other ways to be interesting so people don't care about her weird pictures.

You guys complain of boobs and then look at them plus more, when you think no one is paying attention? This intense moralization of everything we do is nauseating. Leave Megan's boobs alone, right wing nuts! BTW, on a serious note, why is it that most GOP bible-touting nut wings either never get married, or have more divorce rates than the so-called un-Godly liberals? CNN, please post this as I need an answer from Ann Coulter, the witch.

Stu- SW Florida   October 16th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

I was looking all over the internet for this picture and to see what all the fuss was about. I kept getting this little B&W shot of her and clevage. I kept searching and searching thinking this can't be the shot. Low and behold, it is.

Being in the relative position she is it may not have been a good idea to post, but there are far worse shots of other "celebrities"
Give it a rest... there's much more to have newsworthy than "these".

And Meghan.. pay attention. It's the members of your (your Dads) party that are doing most of the nay-saying. What a sad lot!

Rudy   October 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

You have got to be kidding me with all the crap going on in this freaking country, we are woried because a very attractive woman was wearing a tank top and took a picture!! Wow this must have stirred our four fathers to their very core! What the heck does this have to do with anything?? LEAVE THE GIRL ALONE!!!

BestProfitCompany = WAR   October 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

She is so hot! I love that pic of her! WOW very pretty... too bad she still supports rethuglicans. Those are probably the ones who complain about the pic. Rethuglicans are like the taliban. They don't want women to show their assets or brains!

Sam   October 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Hang tough. keep speaking up. This is support from someone who generally does not agree with many of your view

Chris   October 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

CNN has sunk so low ... a "news" story about Megan McCain's Twitter pics. Who cares?! This story shows that CNN is becoming an online version of People Magazine, full of gossip about stuff as dumb as the posts on Twitter.

JSL   October 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Love Megan. Even if she's a Republican.

FancySmiley from Conyers, GA   October 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Get over it folks, it just cleavage. Goodness gracious. Would you people prefer her to wear a habit? Even then, some would find a problem with it.

kitty   October 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Honey, I just wanna know what brand name bra you were wearing, because there ain't no why they're up that high all on their own, 24 years old or not!

angela   October 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

People have way too much time on their hands...and it must be a slow new day.

Jen   October 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

This is seriously news?!!? How is the giant poisonous coal ash spill in Tennessee being treated? What particular states have public medical care that works and is cost effective? Why are super rich people and corporations allowed to skip out on their fair share of taxes? Why are we still in Iraq? No wonder the U.S. is the laughing stock of the world and no one respects us anymore! Please, this is getting embarrassing.

Paul   October 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

She knew it was a provocative photo, and got the exact response she was fishing for, plus a lil more.

Rush L.   October 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

Who cares. Do the churchies want all women covered up or what? Whats next, are we turning into Iran?

Jim   October 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

America has become so full of dishonest holier than thou people, infatuated with gossip, guns, violence and judgement of others while claiming to want peace and claiming to be followers of Jesus. They don't have their own lives in order, so the turn to crititize and hate others. They are the equivelent of Taliban or military dictatorship thinking. Its time recognize these people for who the really are.

angela   October 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

people have way too much time on their hands..

Lauren in Ohio   October 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

Ok, let me ask this.

Women went ga ga over Obamas vacation pictures in Hawaii when he was caught without a shirt. No one said a word. Is this what you call DOUBLE STANDARD??????

Of course the Obama lovers are going to say it is wrong, and not a double standard, but the truth is, there is a HUGE one out there right now.

kgeukes Michigan   October 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Good Lord, leave the child alone...but I have to agree with most posters here....Why is this news???

Shawn   October 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I love how I'm reading about how it's the Republicans, Conservatives, or Christians who are bashing McCain when in fact it is the liberals who are making a big fuss about nothing. Here, CNN has 2 or more articles on Megan, yet Fox has ZERO!

Such hypocrites...

Al King   October 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

Wow!!! I guess she knows how President Obama feels...lol

Brittney   October 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

How does CNN turn this shallow, stupid teeange gossip into headline news? How does any media website allow this to turn into news? So ridiculous. Who cares? Meghan McCain isn't even RELEVANT.

James Brooklny N.Y.   October 16th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

I once thought she was going to be a rational voice for the republican party and for the younger voters but then she went on Bill Maher and made a complete fool of herself and proved she really is a spilling image of her goofy family. She too needs to just go away.

Terry, Butte, MT   October 16th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

Meghan is more of a democrat than some democrats on social issues, and more of a true conservative than most conservatives on other issues.

Her fans that were calling her names for the photo are ignorant. She has nothing to be ashamed of, and good for her for speaking out.

Jamie from Riverside   October 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

I saw that picture and it's not really all that bad, however, it was clearly no accident how she appeared and it's obvious she was showing her girls off...who cares? The photograph was clearly taken through a mirror so she knew how whe appeared – just notice how the book's title she is holding up is reversed.

babs   October 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

I'm a Dem that likes Meghan. I think she may be the only GOPer that i can stand. She lives in this decade.

Noah from Chicago   October 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

Okay this is not even remotely a newsworthy story leave Ms. McCain alone

Jose A. Nieves   October 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

And this is suppose to be a Political Ticker?

john   October 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

the only thing she has to be ashamed of is being a Republican who watches Hannity regularly. Her body is amazing.

Laurie in Spokane   October 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

CNN you've turned into a "National Enquirer" sort of sleazy tabloid.

RH   October 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Please. She knew exactly what she was doing and exactly what sort of response it would elicit. And now she's got exactly what she was hoping for since the idea first popped into her head: attention.

phoenix86   October 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Mehgan,

Don't confuse yourself with Obama.

Langley   October 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Hey REPUBLICANS, its not the liberals who are attacking her, its your own members of the your right wing. Get your facts straight. Sadly you Republican end up attacking anyone who is moderate. Sad day indeed. You GO Megan, I might not support your dad or your politics, but your curves get my vote!

BraveSaintStuart   October 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Why is this in the Political Ticker, again? Who cares.

Kay   October 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

I'm not a McCain fan, but she's a very pretty young lady. She did nothing wrong!

mike   October 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

ahhh! the smite wing , right wing . it's a wonder any of you were born .leave her be.

teresa   October 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

It's just cleavage. God this country is full of prudes.

J. Uram   October 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

It just goes to the credibility of the media. Anything is news even if it is meaningless prattle that has nothing to do with a real issue.

Mike   October 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Oh my god – why is this even an issue???

There was nothing tasteless about the picture. I find it to be a nice picture, a genuine picture.

To the ones who say she should dress differently: She's in her own house – why can't she do what she wants there?

Until the MSM comes off this "skinny is in" crap, stuff like this, and the Ralph Loren model who was fired because she was "too fat" (5'11", 122lbs), this will continue to happen.

I fear for the future of our country with stuff like this.

Reagan was wrong   October 16th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Today's GOP is a close-minded homogeneous lot. They tolerate only a very narrow range of ideas and behaviors, most of which are incompatible with the lifestyles of today's modern, independent, and educated women.

I just don't understand why Meghan insists on belonging to a group that openly hates her and her father.

Dominican mama 4 Obama   October 16th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Okay, we won't. Next. NEWS. PLEASE?

JohnMc   October 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Everyone who is saying "don't worry about what they say" and "you did nothing wrong" are perverts who enjoyed looking and drooling at her picture. Everyone else who is saying "bad judgment" are correct. She should take responsibility for her action and not blame anyone for it. It's not like someone took her picture from a peephole and posted it online. It was her fault and her fault only.

Kathleen   October 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Megan, honey–all those following your tweets ARE NOT your friends. Obviously. Don't worry about what those types think–you will never be able to satisfy them regardless of what you do or try to do.

Anyone who feels the need to call you an ugly name because of a goofy at-home photo really needs to get a life.

Also, I'd like to say: You Go, Girl! Stand up for yourself and fight the silliness of people who are so fearful.

15 minutes of fame are up   October 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Who cares...

If you are going to be in the public eye, and post your thoughts and photos for all to see people are going to react.

HJA   October 16th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

This is news? (yawn)

Willy   October 16th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Who cares? She looks good. She shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for that. Her politics, maybe, but not how she looks. :)

LouAz   October 16th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Does this mean she can't be a Republican anymore ? Is there some bra size limit to be a member of the Flat Earth Party ? Oh I get it . . . it's not Flat Earth, it's just Flat.
Well, come on over to the Bright Side. We are the Party of if you got 'em, flaunt 'em ! You are probably safer over here as well. We don't have double standards for our politicos.

Seriously, Left   October 16th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Thhe reason this is news is because lefties have nothing better to do than to comment on every little ticker story that comes through. And they wonder why Sarah Palin won't go away....

Ron Abfalter   October 16th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

Leave her alone. She's just being human like the rest of us.

Allen   October 16th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

Who Cares. The media perpetuates sex and sells it on every magazine cover and TV show/commercial. What is one lousy picture of a women showing some sexy curves. Isn't that what this society is founded on...So many hypocrites out there. Give it a rest!

mat   October 16th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

If you have a voice and some in politics don't want it hear, they will attack.
Look at these post, since when do so many think criticism is OK?
Why not listen to what is said and find out what is the truth. Oh wait, this isn't about something she said, but an image of her looks.
Is this what America has become?
Are you the 'Real Americans' ... Ugly, Loud and Hateful?

terry   October 16th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

she is a young lady. she is allowed to wear a tank top,and there is nothing wrong with that picture in question. To be honest this is what the opposite sex like to see for the most part. She doesn't dress unacceptablely in public to my knowledge. She looks great, nice figure.

Kay   October 16th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

The picture wasn't for "family viewing??" My son sees ALL of my breasts several times a day when he nurses. When is America going to get over its bizarre fascination with breasts... I mean really, half of America has them. Maybe more than that! ;)

OldUncleTom   October 16th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

The wing-nuts will be promoting the burka next... give it a rest, please.

Meanwhile, Meghan, you continue to embrace your curves, and I (sigh) will continue to envy you the privilege.

... and tell those filthy-minded Christians to kiss your cute little...

Sniffit   October 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

Sex sells. It's not like that's a secret. This was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Her coverage by the "news" media was waning, so she got a little randy in a photo. Baby wanted her spotlight. Whoopdy doo da.

Joe S   October 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

The MSM and idiots in each party need to get over this. Stop being jealous of what she has that you apparently lack and feel the need to trash her for it.

OMG THAT WOMAN HAS BOOBS AND TOOK A PICTURE OF IT. WE MUST CRUCIFY HER!

Aaron   October 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

Ah Conservatives. They will turn on their own if they don't follow the straight and narrow.

Todd   October 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

What's the big deal? She has a few of the only assetts the rpublicon party can lay claim to these days.

Barbara   October 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I am a strong supporter of President Obama but I've always respected voices from the GOP that made sense..that didn't base arguements on attack and garbage. I've found Ms. McCain to be a decent young woman with knowledge in issues and the ability to make her point without screaming accusations that are untrue and do more harm than good. Please do not fade away Ms. MCain as I think the GOP needs more like yourself.

Roy Arellano   October 16th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Megan, LET THEM HATE! lol.

Fred   October 16th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Ah, yes. Even though she breaks with the traditions of the GOP and is a more progressive conservative than most of the party, the Left will continue to bash her just because of who she is. Nice job, lefties, your hipocrisy is showing.

MAXIMUS   October 16th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Sounds like a bunch of hypocrites acting like they walk around with a halo around their head. Give me a break....there are a lot worse things out there than Meghan Mcains picture/

New Age Independent   October 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

More liberal hate... It doesn't even surprise me anymore. If you don't agree with the Libs, then you will be attacked and slandered. it's just the standard operating procedure of the left.

Reggie from LA   October 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Take Dat Laura Ingraham. Kabam!!...sorry Senator and Mrs McCain.

Larry - Hazleton, pa   October 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Leave this lady alone – who really cares what size her bra is or anything else – it is not your body that counts it is the content of your character that counts in my book – this will only matter to those who's minds are already sick and filled with the take anybody down that they can – lets be honest it will be mostly from the conservatives without consious folks. have a nice day to all you sicko's – not.

Davey   October 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

I saw the picture. . .

Not sure what all the hubbub is all about.

Jim   October 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

this is not news. more can be seen on any beach in the country. leave her alone and move on.

www.firedoglake.com   October 16th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Meghan is right. There's nothing wrong with the photo.

But the people she twitters for are the same people who highjacked the entire Republican Party, right wing crazies who defend immoral – but powerful – people on the one hand, while on the other dutifully mouthing nonsense about being morally superior to the rest of the country on social issues, though they are not.

These people have been so well conditioned by so much nonsense, and they have become so mindlessly narrow-minded, that they can't tell the difference between a young woman who is proud of what she looks like and real smut.

We have real problems to fix, people. Grow up.

A 50-year Democrat no more. Now an independent with brains.   October 16th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

If I've posted it before then why isn't it posted. I say nothing any worse than what your Democrat supported fans say especially the four letter words against someone of Megan and Palins statue. None of these people could even carry their groceries to their car.

DJ   October 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

yeah enough already...who cares about this gossip

Karen   October 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Meghan needs to look to her Mom for a lesson in class and how to dress. She just doesn't need to put it ALL out there.

JS007   October 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

What's the big deal? I liked the pic. Those attacking Meghan McCain for showing some cleavage should instead focus on the 122 Americans who die EACH DAY due to a lack of health care. The media should be ashamed. Why aren't you investigating the massive corruption and influence peddling by Senators who are holding up health reform to protect insurance profits? Why aren't you explaining the benefits of the single-payer systems that other countries enjoy? Chuck Grassley talks like a crazy person and cleavage is the thing on which you are focusing? America reminds me more and more of the latter days of the Roman Empire.

RR in AZ   October 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Meghan is beautiful, but she needs to grow up. You can't put yourself out there and not expect everyone to agree with the picture. Once you expose yourself, you have to be able to handle the good and the bad

Clay   October 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck...

B   October 16th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

She and Daddy really don’t get it......

Naldo   October 16th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

Right....wealthy white Republican plays the "victim" card again. What's funny is that it was her own cohorts who were slamming her!

Phat Elvis   October 16th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

Hey megan, 2 things and i say this with love,

1. grow a thicker skin
2. you look fabulous, dont listen to all the noise

best of luck to ya, from a hardcore democrat.
leftists actually do appreciate perspectives from the right that are rational....

malcolm75   October 16th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

I thought the picture was really cute and I think she's very beautiful, but now she is seeing how the wacko's in this country don't like it when someone is trying to have fun, feel sorry for these religious nuts!

nikunjbhai   October 16th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

Like any technology, Twitter is an addiction. Once you're hooked, it is hard to give up. With thousands of followers, one becomes an exhibitionist.

Matt K from Canada   October 16th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

Well I hope Miss. McCain succeeds in her crusade against Twitter,
Good Luck!

Steve in CT   October 16th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

I classify myself an a conservitive independant, obliged to no party. I'm not offended by this photo nor am I aroused. Compaired with most other countries the US is prudish. But Americans are also holier-than- thou in image only. I wonder how many hits her site got after the word got out the photo was there. I'll bet most of the "prudes" that took a peek would say "It was only to see how discusting it is". C'mon now.

Jeff   October 16th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

Let's all judge her, just as Jesus would do!

Matt   October 16th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

"Meghan McCain is breaking her silence"
When was this girl ever silent? That would be worth a news story.

Darth Vadik, CA   October 16th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Oh for GOd's sake, leave her alone.
So what if whe wants to show off occasionally, who cares, she'd a young woman in her 20's.
Flaunt it while you've got it.

Tom from Roch., NY   October 16th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

". . . immediately drew harsh criticism from other tweeters . . ."

More like drew harsh critism from twits! She's young, attractive, has a brain and a nice body. And, this is a problem?!?!?!

Why is this political news? Shouldn't CNN's political correspondents be hounding politicians!

MIke Maz   October 16th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

OMG would you just come to the Dem side already. Why keep associating yourself with repressed rednecks. I saw the picture.. really people need to grow up. Dont back down Meghan!!!!!

Rich in Az   October 16th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Spoiled little rich girl. Go away and take your old man with you. Both of you are irrelevant.

j   October 16th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

She is one of the few Republicans in the spotlight who`s values seems to have a resemblance to the GOP of old . The ones nowdays unfortunately seem to be bordering on the extreme right-wing. I`m a fiscally conservative with moderate social beliefs; ie. moderate Repub. -- Hang it there and don`t let the "holier than thou" crowd run you off.

Bill   October 16th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Ok, Meghan, we promise we won't.... but if the shoe fits.....

Four and The Door   October 16th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Meghan has a great attitude. This is important and will serve her well going forward.

Independent in IA   October 16th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

If it 'walks like....talks like....and looks like......" it probably is.

Stacie   October 16th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

I'm sorry but she took the picture herself. She needs to be able to handle the response to it. Is that honestly how she walks around her apartment every day??? I personally think it is a publicity stunt!

Tony   October 16th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Well that did not take long.

After trying to show she was a moderate and the Left jumped on it, she now finds herself in the same boat a Cindy Sheehan. The left will use you to promote thier agenda and the QUCIKLY dump you.

Congrats Mehgan. You've been punked!

bc   October 16th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Young Ms. McCain is showing her immaturity. She needs to take responsibility for her poor judgement and quit shifting the blame to the media. She is the one who chose to post the "not for family viewing" picture.

JB - NYC   October 16th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Just Shut Up!

AEK   October 16th, 2009 11:58 am ET

I think Ms. McCain may have been a bit naive to think posting that picture would not cause a certain amount of controversy. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and accept that it was an innocent mistake. That being said, I also think that all the mean spirited haters from both ends of the social and political spectrum need to get themselves a life. And to the ones using the "fat card", you are sick and are to blame for so many of the problems young men and women have to confront every day to fit into your amazingly narrow ideal of healthy body image.

Ken in NC   October 16th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Megan, don't sweat it. While I do not agree with many of your political positions, I agree you have the right to post what does not appear to be distasteful pictures to your twitter account. I suspect the problem is probably jealously. Forget about it.

eolufemi   October 16th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Generally, don't like republicans but the McCain raised a bright and responsible daughter. Hopefully, she'll use some of her celebrity to reign in the republican party. The right wing zealots are out of control.

Tosin   October 16th, 2009 11:57 am ET

CNN...is this News? We should call CNN the new TMZ...this is why Ted Turner wants to return and put some brains into yah. Wheres the environmental news? the coal ash in west virginia...the deforestation, the populations, the algae under the sea...this is pure JUNK on a News Website

Jeff in Houston   October 16th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Face it Megan. You are up against a crowd of sexually uptight, hypocritical moralists, that invokde the Bible only when it suits them. You are far more intelligent to be trying to make inroads with the Pig People. They will turn on you, as they have turned on anyone that does not follow the teachings de jure of their tired old men.

If you want to find a group of level headed progressives, give me a call.

Joseph B   October 16th, 2009 11:56 am ET

If an attractive male congressman provided a zoomed in photo of his package in tight jeans, the media would be having a field day. Meghan need not be ashamed of the photo – she is just getting different attention than the type she wanted. That happens sometimes and being more judicious on Twitter will likely serve her well.

Kate in San Diego   October 16th, 2009 11:56 am ET

You keep doing exactly what you are doing and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. I am a proud Democrat, but have a tremendous amount of respect for you. You are a smart woman with a great future ahead of you. I really wish you would come and play for our team!

Ariana, VA   October 16th, 2009 11:54 am ET

And when you're in the public eye, you're going to get criticized-not a big deal, get over it Megan.

Ariana, VA   October 16th, 2009 11:53 am ET

I like Megan, I think she's beautiful and intelligent. But she needs to admit it was an inappropriate picture to post. And she really shouldn't be surprised when her FELLOW Republicans call her demeaning names. It's what they do! I don't care how you dress at home, put the girls away please!

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   October 16th, 2009 11:53 am ET

She spent a day thinking about why the foto was not appropriate? What an airhead.

Bananarama Victim II: Electric Boogaloo   October 16th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Republicans,

This most certainly was not a measure of opposition from democrats. Being that the vast majority of Ms. McCain's twitter followers are Republicans, the comments were coming from her own kind. The puritanical, holier-than-thou crowd that insists we live life as they see fit. Not democrats, who are and have been historically behind EVERY womens' rights movement from the start.

You want to throw rocks, throw em' in your own house, you're clearly not using the windows anyway!

Ms. McCain don't quit twitter, quit the party of twits!

Mike in Fairfax   October 16th, 2009 11:52 am ET

I can not speak for everyone, but I, Like Meghan, am proud of her curves!! She's gorgeous and she has nothing to apologize for.

Rob   October 16th, 2009 11:51 am ET

I love boobs like the next guy, but someone in charge of these sorts of things should realize how myopic and inconsequential the news has gotten these days when this is a news item. Leave "news" about Twitter account controversies for the tabloid websites!

Some republican guy   October 16th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Meghan McCain is nice and curvy. Unlike those bony liberal obamabot women with their black clothes and Chay Guevaro t-shirts and buray hats and no makeup and hairy legs and no fat lattes. No wonder the narcisstic obamabot men are so grumpy all the time. Have a nice day!

Ren from Baltimore   October 16th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Meghan, they're just having fun with their own uptight-ness. It's a great kind of "come as you are" picture, nothing wrong at all, nothing you don't see in colleges, gyms, parks....every single day.

As for CNN's referring to the photo leaving "little to the imagination," well, let me say just the opposite, ok? You look happy in your skin, you seem very ok with spending the evening without a bunch of folks around, and maybe _that_ makes people jealous.

Enjoy you life! You don't get to do it over again!

When will America grow up?

Her shot was not taste-less, I thought of it as rather artistic. I am a staunch independent, with liberal leaning views. I applaud Meghan for her ability to question the 'norm' of her party and of certain social stigmas, America needs more free(er) thinkers like Meghan. I really like this woman, she's 'real', I could see her mucking a stall in the morning and doing a formal dinner in the evening and neither one with pretense.

No not double standards......when you put yourself out there in the public then you are putting yourself up for Praise and Criticizing both......you either have to be big enough to brush off the criticizing and humble enough to receive the Praise.......you are starting to sound like Sarah Palin now........

Carrie   October 16th, 2009 11:49 am ET

The public should just get over it , and Meghan will be much more careful in the future, Just part of maturing .
Personally I find Twitter a bit over the top , just a way of communicating about some really stupid stuff. I do not care if someone is on their way to a lunch date, the bathroom , to bed etc etc. I do have a twitter acct. but seldom use it . Most things are just plain silly, along with this .

Ted Tartaglia   October 16th, 2009 11:49 am ET

The picture of Meghan shows that she is well endowed. The tank top was not cut excessively low and violated no dress standards that I am aware of. The top she was wearing can be seen on many young ladies on any street of any town is the United States. I fail to see the problem.

Perhaps Meghan's critics have something against attractive women or they hold compulsive puritanical beliefs or perhaps they are just hypocrites or maybe they are right-wing evangelical bigots.

Meghan has shown much more maturity than her critics. Leave the lady alone!

Keeth in California   October 16th, 2009 11:48 am ET

Who called you these names first? Your followers on Twitter. But now you're blaming the media? I had respect for you, Meghan, but now you've convinced me: Tweets are for twits.

wi liberal   October 16th, 2009 11:48 am ET

Leave her alone! She is the only intelligent republican that I know!

JSilver2th   October 16th, 2009 11:48 am ET

Come on- she's just trying out for a photo op with Levi Johnston.

why O why   October 16th, 2009 11:47 am ET

First you all love her and then you all hate her...

First you all hate her and then you all love her...

Life goes on for her.

single mom   October 16th, 2009 11:47 am ET

CNN, enough already! Unless and until Meghan McCain runs for office on her own, don't put her in the Ticker!

sameoldyellowdog   October 16th, 2009 11:45 am ET

You go Meghan. I thought it was hot. Why don't you come over and join us democrats.....?

Dean   October 16th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Typical Republicans, Preaching and trying to empose their morals on everyone else while having affairs on the side themself

Doug, New Jersey   October 16th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Megan, you are just as much a liberal as your father, drop the republican, and the liberal Democrats who are making sexist remarks against you now (supported by the group of the same name) that you want to have love you in Obama-Messiah fashion, will all fall in love with you if you say you are now a Democrat.

No true republican would care what evil, hate-filled, sexist liberal Democrats say, since you do, just like your leftist father, I suggest both of you join the Democrat shallow party.

scott in atlanta   October 16th, 2009 11:43 am ET

So Now, can you answer your chairman's question…WHY ARE YOU A REPUBLICAN?

Marty, Grand Rapids Mi   October 16th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Not News

carlos, THAT one   October 16th, 2009 11:42 am ET

it is not the press Ms. Mc Cain.......it is the the satanic republiCONS hiding behind their evil deeds.....go after their malicious, vile, rotten minds.....not the press, it reacted after all those amoral pieces of flesh called humans began to dehumanize you.......you should go ahead and show your picture to the world, and we, with the moral values will accept it, do not give in to their utter ignorance, that's why they are called REPUGNANTS

RCasson   October 16th, 2009 11:41 am ET

I'm a Democrat who likes Meghan McCain, but her immaturity is showing. She is a beautiful girl with a nice figure, but a Senator and/or former Presidential candidate's daughter, should not be posting photos like that on twitter. Its not appropriate. And no, I'm not some hater. Like I said, she's beautiful and could possibly even make it as a model, but she should have expected this kind of backlash. And I didn't support McCain, but imagine how he feels knowing his daughter posted a photo like this for all the world to see? Young women need to think about these things. She is either very naive, or wanted people to spend hours talking about her breasts.

katiec   October 16th, 2009 11:41 am ET

CNN, why is this woman getting your attention and headlines?
Is it because your beloved Palin has kept her mouth shut for
awhile??

Jane   October 16th, 2009 11:40 am ET

If she resents the criticism she should get out of public view

Mark   October 16th, 2009 11:37 am ET

poor Megan does she know the will be the liberal CNN's next Sara Palin?

Kevin Denver Colorado   October 16th, 2009 11:37 am ET

Don't worry Meghan........ I'd embrace your curves too!
