Romney hammers Obama on Iran negotiations

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Mitt Romney has a message for the Obama administration: Stop talking to Iran. Period.

"The Iranian leadership is the greatest immediate threat to the world since the fall of the Soviet Union, and before that, Nazi Germany," Romney said in a speech Monday to the pro-Israel group AIPAC at their national summit in San Diego, according to excerpts provided to CNN.

"The Iranian regime is unalloyed evil, run by people who are at once ruthless and fanatical," Romney said. "Stop thinking that a charm offensive will talk the Iranians out of their pursuit of nuclear weapons. It will not. And agreements, unenforceable and unverifiable, will have no greater impact here than they did in North Korea. Once an outstretched hand is met with a clenched fist, it becomes a symbol of weakness and impotence."

Romney - who has used a series of high-profile speeches to bolster his foreign policy profile in advance of a possible 2012 presidential bid - called on the United States to enact "comprehensive, withering sanctions" coupled with support for "the forces of freedom within Iran." He demanded that a "credible" military threat must remain on the table if Iranian leadership insists on threatening Israel with annihilation.

The former Massachusetts governor also blasted Obama for doing to much to accomodate Palestinian leadership in the pursuit of a peace process, while also placing an undue burden on Israel, "America's most ardent ally in the Middle East."

"The notion that Hamas and violent jihadists are motivated by 'shared interests' and 'common goals' is naïve in the extreme and dangerous to the entire free world," Romney said.

What negotiations is he talking about? All I heard was a diplomatic approach with several parties such as Russia is being considered. Nothing is yet on the table. Pretty premature but I can see talking about this with the pro-Israel group would win a few points. Politics as usual.

Gee, Mitt, you appear to have the knowledge and answers to solve the world's problems. Just one question. If you don't believe in working WITH other nations to further peace, can I assume that you are of the "bomb, bomb Iran" mentality? It is so simple for Republicans to criticize every effort made by our President to secure the world's safety, while offering no alternatives but more war, which no one can afford. So why don't you just keep your opinions to yourself? We are not going to attack Iran, and we are not going to obliterate Palestine either. And Israel is our ally only because we give them more aid than we do any other country on Earth, most of it weapons. Can't imagine why they keep using them against their perceived enemy, can you? Or are you just courting the Jewish vote already?

I think only a fringe minority of chicken hawk war mongerers will be turned on by "evil empire" rhetoric recycled from the Bush Administration Mr. Romney. I know you're positioning yourself for 2012, but if that's the best ya got, you might as well give up now.

Would be nice to see how much Romney gets in political contributions from AIPAC.

Gee, wonder who's running for President in 2012? Wonder who needs money from pro-Israel voters? This must reflect Romney's vast foreign relations experience as a governor. What can you see from your porch MITT? Anyone remember the crazy, racist things he had to say after he dropped out of the last presidential election?

Mitt Romney should know whether the President talks to Iran or not Iran will do what Iran wants to. Its GOD thats keeping us safe not the President or any other leader so People need to PRAY for our President stop complaing and PRAY, thats all we can do anyway complaints never helps anyone its action thats counts and that action should be PRAYER first.

That's how Mitt Romney lost to McCain. Warmongering is not an effective policy goal nor an effective way to get elected. It's amazing that an American businessman with no international experience can whine and complain like he does. Doesn't the GOP have anybody with an actual plan other than "kill 'em all?"

Odumbo better listen and listen good. His little candy ass world and ways are going to get us in trouble and then there will be hell to pay, Iraq and the Afgan war will seem small next to nukes raining down from Iran.
All the cool aid and butt kissing in the world wont fix these people. They hate us, enough to kill millons, they dont care. WAKE UP!

Obviously, had Mitt won we would be fighting a third war in the middle east. Do we really want that? Could we even manage that without our economy going through the floor?
Let's make sure that Mitt does not win in 2012: Educate the people about we can expect from his policies.

Typical Republican....run and hide behind war. And to think this group of conservatives say they love God and their Country. How about this biblical principle, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind' – this is the great and foremost commandment, and there is a second like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself'. The whole Law and Prophets hang on these two commands
Was it me or did world leaders criticize the Bush administration for not talking with them? I have to give the Obama administration a B on Foreign Policy.

Another GOP loser heard from. They just don't seem to get that no one, other than their base, (and they are not the majority of voters in this country anymore) believes anything they say after their party got us into this "big ole mess" that we are trying to fight our way out of. I wouldn't believe what they have to say unless the Lord told me so, and so far he hasn't done that.

The warm fuzzy feeling will not work on madmen. We need to take a hard stance with these third world dictatrors, not visit them for tea. They will act friendly to your face, then slit your throat when they get a chance. And also, why are all these idiots in congress trying to cozy up with the castros in cuba anyway, have they forgotten the missile crisis in the early sixty's?

Romney wants to go back to the "Republican Model" of negotiation – "We'll talk about what you want only after you give us everything we want." I wonder why that hasn't worked yet?

Romney is just Bush warmed over. Forget diplomacy, forget talking to the Iranians. Just depend on sanctions which don't work, Mitt.

There is a reason you were unsuccessful in 2008. Try to learn from it.

So then less talking, more bombing, is that your point Mitt? I grew up in Massachusetts, so I'm well aware of the depths of this man's idiocy – and now he's graduating from idiot to DANGEROUS idiot.

I respect Romney, but I completely disagree here. I will always hold more faith in diplomacy rather than war. Simply ignoring them seems naive and, to me, potentially MORE dangerous. I prefer the Obama administration's approaches to international affairs. There's a reason he's internationally recognized enough to be a Nobel laureate. Maybe he didn't deserve it, but it's not his fault; they gave it to him.
