States following stimulus plan rules for schools?

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Creating and saving jobs while boosting investment in the future are among the top goals of the Obama administration's $787 billion economic stimulus plan.

And according to a preliminary report on stimulus funding for schools by the Department of Education and the Domestic Policy Council, the stimulus plan has created jobs.

State governments have created and saved at least 250,000 education jobs - and restored nearly all their projected education budget shortfalls for fiscal years 2009 and 2010 - according to preliminary findings released Monday by the White House.

But some states that used the funds to fill existing budget gaps could face a crisis when the money runs out after 2010. And the Department of Education has chastised certain states for their stimulus funding programs and warned them that they risk their chances at getting other DOE grants down the road.

My point is the stimulus was a political payback scheme...i.e., payback to the teachers unions for example.

If you think they really have any definitive way to gauge how many jobs would have been lost if they would have not passed the stimulus bill, than your just gullible enough to believe that we can have free health care without raising taxes.

And more jobs would be created if the Republican obstructionist governors weren't either refusing stimulus money or sitting on it, in their efforts to cause our President and our country to fail.

Party Before Country = the GOP way!

DC desperately needs that money! Over a hundred public school teachers have been fired since the school year began. The problem with receiving the money, is how to keep it out of our mayor's bank account. What mayor vacations in Dubai on the city's expense?!

The key to this country’s future success is in EDUCATION and Obama gets it!

He was awarded the Nobel because others in the world understand his intent and willingness to communicate with the rest of the world. Education is the first best place to start.

Educated people usually make the best choices.

Yeah, well he's not saving jobs in our school district. 250,000.00 jobs saved or created.....yeah, right.

I'm shocked the right wing isn't up in arms that President Obama was in a school talking with children. Idiots.

So the government run public schools are having budget problems.

There's a surprise. Create OR save teacher jobs? The schools are run by the government. That should tell you something.

What happens next year or the year after that? More stimuli? Because I don't see the government getting more efficient at running anything any time soon.

Same thing is happening with the post office.

Is it just me, or does every industry run by unions need a bail out?

And they want to run health care? Please.

Anybody ever have to play catch up with their bills, in a race, whatever? Do you know how many extra steps you have to take in order to move ONE step forward? People, we're in catch up mode here in case you don't get it. And we're playing catch up ACROSS so many fronts. So the fact that ANY progress is being made this soon is nothing short of a miracle, whether you believe it or not. Stop with the forever nitpicking. Obama GETS it. You're going to whine your greedy, I-won't-work-cleaning-toilets behinds into a coronary!!

Which state used it right? Not Georgia. Teachers have already beeen furloghed 3 day without pay and will get another 3 after Jan. 1st. Either Ga. misused the money or the Obama stimulas is a joke. I think both are possible here in Ga. Sonny Purdue has killed the state and Obama is handing him a shovel to finish it.

Does any government entity ever follow the rules when it comes to spending our tax dollars? Kind of like giving money to ACORN.
