Cheney hammers 'afraid' Obama on national security

Cheney received the Center for Security Policy's Keeper of the Flame award Wednesday night .

(CNN) - After a summer in which Dick Cheney dialed back his attacks on President Obama's national security polices, the former vice president told a conservative gathering Wednesday that the Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq, and intentionally sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In the hard-hitting and wide-ranging speech at Center for Security policy, Cheney targeted the new administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals, and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

Cheney also targeted White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who suggested to CNN's John King on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the previous administration had failed to adequately assess conditions in Afghanistan before committing troops there.

.....and of course rushing in with neither a solid plan nor a realistic goal as was his practice, resulted in the very outcomes he says will happen if Obama takes sufficient time to make good decisions.

Please someone tell me what makes him any type of credible authority on the subject!

Mr. Cheney, I'll listen to you when you can manage to find those WMD's! Until then, you have no credibility in my eyes. I'm suprised that you have still not learned that rushing to judgement is a mistake. It's a +trillion dollar mistake in Iraq and we are paying for it.
    Sincerely,
    One Betrayed Conservative

  3. Wake up America!!!

I don’t think Obamas afraid. Inexperienced, naive, arrogant, incompetent, and totally lost on what to do is more like it. Remember ‘the presidency didn’t lend itself to on the job training’, Obama is proving everyone that said this right. He’s Carter on steroids.

But don’t lose heart Obama sheepeople. Remember – First balm Bush, Second balm the rich, Third balm America and always turn a blind eye to the faults to our glorious leader.

Cheney is a fearful man who practically messed himself on 9/11. He's projecting his fear onto someone else. Classic. Get help, Dick!

Can this guy just have some more heart problems again so we can get him over with? There are actually some pressing matters to consider still about sending more troops, Cheney. Sometimes it helps to actually weather a storm or wait out and see until deciding on doing something rather than just blindly doing it, a la the previous administration.

I still do not understand why we have heard more from Dick these past 10 months than we did the whole time he was in office. I just get a sense of paranoia from him.

Funny, how easy it has been for Bush/Cheney to be fearless with SOMEBODY else's kids. How ironic they were the ones who shirked and deffered to go to be brave in Veitnam. Hypocrite!!

Ahh, finally some non-Palin based red meat for the frothy-mouthed masses to feast on

My favorite part of these threads show that people will attack the messenger, not the message. Actually, this frightens me greatly and I weep for the future.

Wake up America, neither party cares about you!

Cheney speaks the truth the left doesn't want to hear. They hired an indecisive, feckless moron as president who cares more about poll numbers than national security. God help us.

When has Cheney been right about anything?

Since Cheney is never correct, we should just start calling him opposite man.

Do the opposite of whatever it is Cheney thinks we should do and America will be better off.

Considering we haven't been attacked in 10 months since President Obama took office; then, by Bush's and Cheney's flawed logic, President Obama has kept us safe from terrorist attack for almost a year!!! Good Job!!! It's easy for Cheney to be eager to send other people's children to die and to ignore all parts of the Geneva Convention because HE HAS NO SOUL.

I'd rather have a president who's calculated and careful, especially with delicate subjects like war, instead of one that's brash and impulsive.

"sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy?"– Like engaging in torture? Like wire tapping without court authoization? Like violating constitutional rights? Like starting a war under false pretenses? Those are the kind of acts that need sabotaging to restore America's integrity because we had none under Bush/Cheyney!

Cheney – go crawl under Iraq. You and Bush are the ones who took your eyes off the ball by going to Iraq and now you want to blame Obama for your mess?

The Bush administration (both of them) got us there and Cheney opens his mouth. If we turn our heads and not say anything maybe this dingbat will go away. I am not for Obama since he is a leftist and marxist but with what has happened with our Government since the Regan administration, I don't know who can get us out of this mess except the American People to start hammering away at our Congressmen/women and Senate.
