Cheney hammers 'afraid' Obama on national security

Cheney received the Center for Security Policy's Keeper of the Flame award Wednesday night .

(CNN) - After a summer in which Dick Cheney dialed back his attacks on President Obama's national security polices, the former vice president told a conservative gathering Wednesday that the Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq, and intentionally sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In the hard-hitting and wide-ranging speech at Center for Security policy, Cheney targeted the new administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals, and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

Cheney also targeted White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who suggested to CNN's John King on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the previous administration had failed to adequately assess conditions in Afghanistan before committing troops there.

If Cheney says it, the exact opposite is probably true.

Why is anyone listening to this criminal liar?

CNN. Stop reporting on this idiot. Cheney is irrelevant.

Wow, I haven't heard a comment like that since 4th grade. I'm glad that I have a president who is so pro-life that he decides to look at all view points before squandering life careless in a two front war.

This from a cowardly draft-dodging war criminal? Please.

Cheney wishes we were afraid. Fear is the only thing that gets people like him elected.

Your fifteen minutes of fame ended ten months ago Cheney. Please gracefully step aside and go write a book about yourself and your time in office. It's hard to blame someone who is having to deal with the mess you left behind.

Of course Obama is afraid. He enjoys the media spotlight and can't make a decision. Obama's sending out his bully henchmen to scare anyone who don't agree with him is a prime example. Bush may have sent troops in but Obama has nothing to help them. Either give them what they need or pull them out. Obama to busy jetting around on vacation and doing campaigning to handle business. At least Cheney has the nerve to speak the truth about the liberal messiah.

Right and going in iraq did not undermine the afghan war, someone needs to clean this mess, and it can't be done in 10 months!
Cheney needs to realize his plan was failure on both fronts and will be noted in history as one.

Why didn't he finish the job in afganistan before lying about the reasons to invade Iraq. He stumbled for 6.5+ years in afganistan without anything positive to show. He is holding Obama to a different standard than his accomplishments.

Dick Chaney and GW Bush should ABSOLUTELY go away! This country went to Hell on their watch and they were responsible. Now Dick Chaney has advice? Are you kidding me? He should bow his lying head, and sink in to obscurity, never to be heard from again for the things he and his Administration did to our USA. He is everything wrong with this country!

All good points. Obama is appearing indecisive to me. Can he prove Cheney wrong? I hope so.

This man is a complete jerk. He made money on war then has the nerve to call out Obama, who is doing exactly what the people that elected him in a landslide want. Please watch the documentary the sale of Iraq, it will tell you everything you need to know about KBR and Cheney.

Cheney, why don't you just shut up! Most of us are sick and tired of your nasty snarky face and your saying that President Obama is "afraid" is just another attempt to get your face in the news. CNN is becoming another "opinion" network rather than acttually reporting real news.

Cheney is making his negative comments again....and from someone who ducked fighting in the Vietnam war...How dare him....At least Pres Obama is weighing all options before getting in deeper as Bush/Cheney did when they were in charge...

Please CNN stop the madness and stop giving this war monger any news headlines....

It is horrible that the person most responsible for everything that is wrong on the planet is now a critic of a winner. That shows how much of a looser he is. Money doesn't make you a winner.
