Cheney hammers 'afraid' Obama on national security

Cheney received the Center for Security Policy's Keeper of the Flame award Wednesday night .

(CNN) - After a summer in which Dick Cheney dialed back his attacks on President Obama's national security polices, the former vice president told a conservative gathering Wednesday that the Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq, and intentionally sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In the hard-hitting and wide-ranging speech at Center for Security policy, Cheney targeted the new administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals, and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

Cheney also targeted White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who suggested to CNN's John King on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the previous administration had failed to adequately assess conditions in Afghanistan before committing troops there.

    Dick,

Did you ever get ANYTHING right when you were working with W. Now you seem to think you have all the answers again.

Just go home...and take your daughter, Liz!

Anyone who is still listening to this snake needs to realize that what they think does not matter any more!People like Cheney will never be in allowed to be in power again so people seeking that power need to shake this loser.

When is the right going to stop trying to scare the American people with their "terror plot" tactics? Yes there are dangers out there, but the entire world is not out to get us. What's next a 20 foot concrete wall around the country with a MK19 every 20 meters? Maybe it's time to stop trying to intimidate the world and have a conversation with them.

Thank you, Dr. Strangelove. Now, please return to your undisclosed location and leave national security to the more rational among us. Oh, and try to wash all of that blood off your hands.

Cheney is completely and helplessly insane. The only thing people should be "afraid" of is being like him! Cheney has got to be the most looked down upon man in America. Every day we celebrate in this country that he is no longer in office!

Throw Cheney and his nut-head daughter in a prison cell at Gitmo with their fellow terrorists! Obama is actually thinking FIRST and acting SECOND... what an amazing concept!

Well if Cheney is critisizing Obama, Obama must be doing things right! At least doing things the way the people want him to do them. Not like Mr "SO WHAT" Cheney!

    Mr. Cheney,
Do not confuse caution with fear. I'm sure this may be a lot to ask, seeing as how you already confuse fabrication with the truth and invasion with patriotism. You and your crew made a bigger mess than a bull in a china shop. Why do you let the grown-ups clean it up now?

  11. Obama - 4 is too long

The lack of intelligence on this board is overwhelming. And to think they allow anyone over 18 to cast a ballot and decide the fate of this country. Now that's a scary thought.

Dick Cheney is a torture advocate and warmonger who has no problem with trampling on the Constitution. He has forfeited any credibility to be taken seriously about anything and should not be receiving air time.

Only the right wing fringe listens to this war monger. Hopefully the Obama administration will ignore him like the way they should have ignored FOX News.

I have to say that Obama is trying to see the consequences of various possible actions. I don't think that Cheney or Bush had that in mind when thinking about what they are going to do with Iraq and Afghanistan. So much for the Bush/Cheney idea of not to do any "nation building" that they mentioned in the 2000 campaign.

Obama is not afraid, he is anti-American marxist who believes that we don't deserve to win in Afganistan or any war for that matter. To him, and the rest of the liberal idiots in this country, a victory there might show America's "arrogance". He would much rather fly to Amsterdam, salsa at the white house on Latino Night, attend 22 fundraisers, have date nite paris, date nite new york, or vacation at martha's vineyard all on the tax payer's dime, while our brave men and women are dying from his indecision in afganistan.

He's just an old Thug. The enhanced interrogation he refers entails throwing men against the wall and simulated drowning. The fathers of our country would be ashamed of us for treating prisoners of war this way; our country is much greater.

". . .Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies. . ."

No one in the history of this nation damaged America's relations with other countries as much as the Bush/Cheney administration. For him to say that Obama has done what he himself has done is more than preposterous. Cheney needs to understand that he is no longer in office, in charge, or relevant. He's done enough damage to this country and to its prestige.

One does get a little tired of this corrupt piece of crap accusing Obama for doing what he and "W" failed to do in 8 years in Afghanistan: No plan, no support of our troops. Obama sent 20,000 troops to Afghanistan in March to shore up the holes in the swiss cheese Bush/Cheney war scheme.

If the Cheney clan feels so passionately about Afghanistan, there is really nothing stopping them from grabbing guns and joining the fight over there. How about it Liz Cheney? Ready to go into combat? Or are you not really a "red blooded American?"
