    For all you out there who complain that the public option will only help illegal aliens – you are so wrong. Our Blue Cross just took our medication off it's preferred list so the cost is soaring and there is no generic alternative. Also, if you quit or lose your job, you lose your insurance, each year Blue Cross and others raise their rates. They can cancel your plan at any time. They can refuse to pay for an operation by stating your condition is pre-existing. Everything is pre-existing until you know about it. Once you're past middle age it's almost impossible to change your health care provider. And, those poor people that you don't want to help cover? Well you are now, anyway. This way, however, they can get good health care – preventative care, and it will cost less in the long run as they won't have to go to the ER each time they need medical care.

    For those that have only been listening to the rethugs, the public option is "Medicare Part E". "Part E" means everyone – got that?

    Whatever you call it, I'm beginning to believe there is no help for the American people anywhere.

    Ralph Nader, I was angry with you for costing Al Gore the election years back, but are you still there? Are there any statesmen or stateswomen out there... anywhere??

    the public option is the way that the government can take over your choices.

    Oh and the exchange is the place where you can go and be completely clueless about your healthcare. Its nice to compare it to travelocity but the problem is if you do something "wrong" on travelocity you have a bad trip potentially and get over it.

    You pick wrong on the exchange and . . .

    YOU'RE DEAD.

    But you're not going to have any guidance on what to choose on the exchange. For God sakes people don't understand healthcare right now and then you're going to be doing "self service" healthcare?? How dumb is that???

    I agree with Ralph Kramden that we don't need to bother with the details. why not just our leader a liar and be done with it? Socialized medicine is the future and we should all accept it and whatever else the great leader wants. I'm onboard for the ride and want everything he can give.

    Isn't his great. A Democrat comes out and says the Republican health care option is "You Die" and then thousands of people are hospitalized or dead because of the Government's handling of the H1N1 shot. Sort of distorted wouldn't you say? Seems to me the Democrats in power are more capable of mismanagement, so who bearssthe "You Die" title now?

    Expands a greater health program to other Americans that need better options than private plans. If the GOP thinks medicare is so bad then how come all the seniors want it and can't live without it? The GOP just wants people to believe doom and gloom and their neo-Confederate lunatic fringe agenda funded by the big $ lobbyists.

    Lou, you probably don't work, otherwise you'd know this, but working people pay into Medicare all their lives just like they pay into Social Security. The government just gives us back our OWN money – that is to those of us who work.......

    Maybe you should try working instead of expecting working people to pay for YOUR healthcare and whining because we don't want to.

    what is a shame is that everyone is blaming Obama for healthcare now and tomorrow and it is the Senate / Congress that are writing the dran thing. All Obama asked is that the it have certain items that help the broades spectrum of Americans and that he was flexable on how that was done.

    Really how is this all Obama's fault when healthcare has been broken for decades and no decision has been fully vetted by the house to sign?

    I think the official position of the party of NO, the obstructionist Republicans, is welll described by the way congressman Greyson summarized it: "If you're poor or middle class and get sick, die quickly". This is really how they feel.

    First off, Medicare is not a public option. It is supported by payments I make out of my paycheck for the last 25 years. Secondly, I'm only 50, so by the time I'm eligible, Medicare will be bankrupt. Will I get my money back? I think not. If this is how the public option works, keep it. I don't want any part of it.

    Its called freedom of choice and competion.
    _____________________________________________________
    Yeah, until everyone leaves the private insurers to pay less with the Public Insurer. Then it's called no freedom, no choice and no competition. That's a very bad outcome and it will be inevitable with a Public Option. There will be no way around it. It is not what we want or what we need.

    What happened to the Republicans concept of free market? competition is a part of the so called free market!!! Time to bring sanity in the market! through public options. Tell lobbyist to find a other jobs!!. If we have separation of State and the Church we can also have Separation of Politicians and Corporations.

    There is no doubt that the "public option" will have the same outcome as most other government programs: more debt.

    Republicans borrowed billions for the Iraq war, tax cuts, and the medicare expansion.
    Democrats want to borrow billions for the $250 payoff to seniors, the medicare "doctor fix" and the bloated stimulus bill.

    One trait that both parties share is shear incompetence in managing our countries finances.

    Why would we want to give Congress its own health insurance company?

    Its obvious that phoenix 86 knows nothing about health care reform but is only repeating some slogan created created by those with a vested interest in the present system such as profit insurance companies so that they can avoid a straight up debate about which provides the most care to the most people at the least cost
    He needs to ask himself, why would the government want to nationalize the health insurance industry and introduce socialized medicine? Just for the fun of it? If the present system was working why would anyone what to take on this thankless time comsuming task.

    A very long time ago, this was a government of the people and for the people. Since big business figure out that you can run this country without having to consider the little people–it's been government of "let's protect big business profits" Just like money, the public option is not health care - it better access to health care.

    What is President Reagan last years was one of destitution. We would think the good olde USA should have more class about itself to let a former President and his family became destitute all because they could not afford health care. Well, big business health care let it happen everyday.

    If they are going to be managing an insurance plan, surely they will not be opposed to adopting that plan as THEIR provider.....

    The public option is not real choice this plan is for people who are out of work and who can't get insurance if every body could have this plan
    that would be a choice but as long as people have to stay whithin the
    employer based system what choice do they have?

    Public Option is
    1. self-sustaining paid by subscribers according to their incomes;
    2. for those that is not qualified for Medicaid;
    3. for the Middle Class;
    4. going to enlarge the Middle Class and strengthen our democracy;
    5. nationwide and across state lines;
    6. a government-run and single-payer system;
    7. similar to Medicare, for which subscribers have paid all their life;
    8. going to save us health care costs;
    9. going to increase competition.
    10. what we need for small businesses to compete and survive.

    Public Option is NOT
    1. Medicaid, which is paid by taxpayers;
    2. free handout for the poor, who are already covered by Medicaid.

    We need a strong Public Option to revive our economy.
