Rep. Grayson calls Cheney a vampire

Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, attracted attention for a tirade in the House against the GOP's health care plan.
Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, attracted attention for a tirade in the House against the GOP's health care plan.

NEW YORK (CNN)– Controversial freshman Rep. Alan Grayson, who has become famous for attacking the Republicans' health care plan, went on the attack again Friday night, calling former Vice President Dick Cheney a vampire for his recent criticism of the Obama administration's handling of the war in Afghanistan.

"I have trouble listening to what [Cheney] says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he's talking," the Florida Democrat said on MSNBC's Hardball Friday night. "But my response is this: he's just angry because the president doesn't shoot old men in the face. But by the way, when he was done speaking, did he just then turn into a bat and fly away?"

In a hard-hitting, wide-ranging speech last Wednesday, Cheney targeted the administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said at the Center for Security Policy. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

In responding to Cheney's attack, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs on Thursday got in a jab of his own.

"What Vice President Cheney calls 'dithering,' President Obama calls his solemn responsibility to the men and women in uniform and to the American public," Gibbs said. "I think we've all seen what happens when someone doesn't take that responsibility seriously."

Grayson, a successful trial lawyer turned Congressman, shot to national fame - and notoriety - last month, when he took to the floor of the House of Representatives and dramatically described the GOP health care plan as: "Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly." He refused to apologize; Republicans say they'll mount a stiff challenge against him in his conservative-leaning district in 2010, but so far no one has come forward.

And how does this help our national debate?... Acting worse than some of my sixth-grade students is not a good indication of mature leadership.

I like this guys spunk. Someone needs to call Cheney out for what he really is. I'm tired of the sidestepping of the truth that goes on in this country sometimes. The VP of the United States of America promoted torture and some still see him as a hero. No more fear, no more bullying. Just the facts please.

    Americans:

As you evaluate Obama's first year in office and compare it to the last administration; it was Bush/Cheney that dropped the ball and allowed the US to be attacked in their first year. The intelligence was there and they blew it and Americans died and the entire world changed because of their incompetence. Why would anyone ever listen to Cheney again! Republicans pretend that the Bush/Cheney administration started with 9/11. They don't even want to talk about the fact that their incompetence cost thousands of Americans their lives. Then they pretend like they are experts in keeping you safe. Cheney even shoots at Americans for sport.

Vampires are not real but they are looking for blood and I guess that is what Cheney is trying to do, he is a very thoughtless man who loves himself more than his country and likes to say things to discredit the President, if he was smart he would just keep his thoughts to himself, he had 8 years to muddy the waters which he and Bush did a good job of. As for Grayson, he should also keep his wise cracks to himself.

Cheney and Bush, their administration was not treating fairly terrorism suspects, etc. and everyone cried how they abuse power. The current administration has an enemy list made out of American institutes of various sorts and power is abused openly on the major media outlet, and most of the meida does not talk about it... Aren't we a democracy!?

Surprise, America–Democrats aren't the passive, demure, politically-correct peace-lovers you purport them to be. And with regard to Dick Cheney and his ultrarich, ultraright ilk, it's about time someone called a spade a spade. Press on, Congressman Grayson.

Oh the Democrats just can't handle hearing the truth from Cheney. Wake up people you spew your nasty comments instead of listening to facts. No wonder we are stuck with the Campaigner and Chief you fools put into office. Too bad anyone can cast a ballot, brain or not.

Typical democrat. Just like the libers who frequent this site. cant win on the intellectual arguement, so they resort to insults. Come on libs your boring us conservatives. Here is a tip for you. research and understand an issue before you spout your mouths off. Thats how we on the right beat you everytime in debates. I could easily come up with a bunch of insults for this guy, with that horrible picture, but its more fun and productive to tear your points to shreds. Have a happy marxist weeken dems. you too obama. keep it real for me bro.

"I am appalled at the diatribe against the republicans at a time when the world situation calls for alignment in the United States."

It takes two to tango, Josephine.

I think we need some more liberal firebrands like this. I find some of the things Grayson said to be crude, but as long as the Republican Party acts like Newt Gingrich, then we need some bomb-throwers too.

Just another hatefilled Obama supporter. Isn't it wonderful this new change we voted for, hatred and diversity? And yes, if Obama gets his way, silencing of anyone who disagrees with him. I've lived through ten Presidencies and have never seen the hatred and intolerance like Obama brings out in his followers.

Please dems! Dick Cheney has more intelligence and understanding of the world and how it works then all of you libs put together. The proof is when a conservative makes a good arguement, then here comes the insults. Gettin real old. but dont worry we aint goin nowhere. we will always be picking at your irrational arguements til you wave the white flag. which iis what you guys do best.
