(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."
The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.
Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.
"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."
Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.
"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.
The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.
"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.
Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."
The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

Congress is going to need to use some of that stimulus money to build a playground behind the Capital building for Grayson, Wilson, Pelosi and many others that need more constructive things to do when they go outside for recess. I spend enough on daycare for my children, now my tax dollars are paying for these baffoons who are more childish than my kids.
I like Grayson and quite frankly, I think Wiener's comment about him is out of line! Just because the man doesn't mince words doesn't mean what he says isn't true or that he doesn't know what he's talking about. I assume the GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve is Ron Paul's HR 1207. I am glad this bill has bipartisan support. Ron Paul is a Republican who has been consistently (meaning, under both Republican and Democrat administrations) aiming to bring an end to the Federal Reserve, which operates with fake transparency. And when I say fake transparency, I mean that the language in current law that allows for an "audit" for the Federal Reserve makes exceptions to what you can ask about–and the exceptions are basically a list of everything they do! So in the end, you're allowed to officially bring forward an audit, but you're not allowed to ask them about anything they actually do.
Ron Paul's HR 1207 seeks to change this so we can actually ask the Federal Reserve about what they do.
Please call the Congressman in support of HR 1207, and please call your Senators and let them know you want the Senate version to pass as well.

I like this guy! I saw him interviewed recently, never having seen or heard of him before, and I was very impressed with his straight forward, blunt talk. Almost Trumanesqe in quality! This has nothing to do with any specific person, including Rep. Alan Grayson. The tactics presented here have been used by both parties. Although, I find it appalling that people from both parties continue to give attention to such antagonizing tactics. These tactics are used very successfully in order to energize the base. Until the base of both parties start to ignore such comments, there will still be politicians in any party willing to say such extreme comments. Period.

Having been one to "open mouth and insert foot" on more than one occasion, I can somewhat empathize with the Congressman. However that empathy rapidly turns to scorn considering the man continues to vigorously defend such an unprofessional and boorish comment weeks after the fact. A little harsh, but I like the fact that he calls people out. I'd rather have someone, (left or right), a little rough around the edges, using foul language than someone lying through their teeth but saying all the right things. This guy is not out of control. His statement was inappropriate but he said it weeks ago. I admire him for speaking his mind on issues that count. It's pretty wierd that Republicans have finally dug deep enough to find "something on him". I admire him greatly for what he said about health care regarding Republicans.

All the folks spewing rhetoric about this administration needing to pay attention to unemployment, need to do your homework and a lot of picketing. Globalization has been a green light for corporations large and small to send Americans to the unemployment line while replacing their jobs from overseas with foreign workers that make a lot less and thus improves the bottom line. A fix that I can think of is that Americans need to learn more and get paid less for what they know and if you can't do that, then we need to shed a light on corporations doing this and statrt boycotting and picketing their business. Other than that I can't see anything else that'll stop this locomotive called globalization.
