Grayson spokesman defends 'whore' comment

(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."

The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.

Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."

Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.

"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.

The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.

"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.

Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."

The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

Ths guy is out of control.

If a Repulican said it, NOW and all the Media would demand he step down. This is not a Partisan issue.............. This is against all women who have succeeded and against the decency of the office in which he holds.

He should be made to apologize for his comments as they are not appropriate from a Congressman, not matter the party.

    Will he?????????????

As much as I dislike the repuks, I wish this guy would stop with his over the top attention getting efforts. It is obvious what he is doing and it only makes the rest of us look like idots. Please stop and earn your attention through your accomplishments.

I agree with the New York Democrat that Democrat Alan Grayson is a complete whacko who should be censured or removed from Congress.

Anyone who refers to anyone in the upper echelon of the "Federal" Reserve as a "wh0re" should be considered a patriot.

Its also funny that everything I had heard on right-wing-wacko radio regarding the "die quickly" comment made it sound as though the statement was made by a Democrat.

This guy is one of the biggest morons in Washington. What an embarassment to the Dems and Florida! I guess when you are a desperate nobody, you will do anything to get attention!

The best thing we can do is ignore this idiot and not give him the publicity he craves.

A couple weeks ago when he was making "acceptable politically incorrect" comments, he was a great spokesman for the party, a 'straight shooter'. Now, he's "one fry short of a Happy Meal" (probably trying to evade that obesity tax!).

    How quickly they turn.

That was a disgusting comment, Grayson, go home to Florida, we don't need Democrats OR Republicans like that. And for you to defend that???

Please, Mr. Grayson, next time use the word Lobbyist. It is equally derogatory. I couldn't agree more with the despicable term used to describe a despicable person, but that word just give the self rightous neocons ammunition. You know, the ones that support Ensign, Craig, Sanford, Vitter, Gingrich and his sorry marital escapades, and Foley. Yea, they are the ones calling you out on identifying a lobbyist who now works for the government who sells her soul to be on the "right" side of an issue.

Trash talk is used by those who lack the vocabulary and intellectual capacity to present a cogent argument in socially acceptable language. Florida seems to have a lot of politicians who could use a refresher (or first, in some cases) course in English– and logic.

Congress is going to need to use some of that stimulus money to build a playground behind the Capital building for Grayson, Wilson, Pelosi and many others that need more constructive things to do when they go outside for recess. I spend enough on daycare for my children, now my tax dollars are paying for these baffoons who are more childish than my kids.

I like Grayson and quite frankly, I think Wiener's comment about him is out of line! Just because the man doesn't mince words doesn't mean what he says isn't true or that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Maybe if Weiner and other Democrats would stop playing politics and stand up for what they believe in our congress would actually get things accomplished! As for the Republican'ts attacking him, that only means that he's on the right track in my book!

If a Republican would have said this you all would have been crying big time, demanding his resignation.

Once again proof that the libs do not feel they need to practice what they preach. No real surprise there.

So whats wrong with auditing the Federal Reserve? Maybe Robertson should review one of the presidents promises which has something to do with transparency of government.

The man may not be Mr. Politically Correct, but I'm reminded of the "looks like a duck, quacks like a duck" story. Keep punching them in the nose, Mr. Grayson! You're apparently the only Democrat not afraid of the neocon bullies on the playground!

A "Monopoly Money" tie? He USED TO BE an economist? No doubt the tie (along with his "USED TO BE" status) is indicative of his economic understanding.

I think that guy Wiener might be right. Grayson named his kids:
Skye, Star, Sage, Storm and Stone.

All of you libs thought naming your kids Track, Trig, Willow, Bristol and Piper was weird, not so bad in comparison.
