Grayson spokesman defends 'whore' comment

(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."

The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.

Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."

Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.

"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.

The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.

"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.

Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."

The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

  2. Randolph Carter, I'm no expert but.....

Do you really want to audit the Federal reserve? Do you really want to open the black box and see that the illusion that sustains capitalism itself is just that: an illusion? Yeah, like that wouldn't cause the collapse of our economy faster than you can say Greenspan was an idiot. But I guess republicans want this country to fail so that they can say I told you so. Oh well. Have a nice day!

Grayson sounds more like a Republican than a Democrat with these days. There is NEVER a reason to call someone names when discussing a situation. Maybe it's in the water in Florida- what else can explain this behavior from a congressman?

  5. Victim of Obama Greed

This guy is a loose cannon and the Democrats are using him as their poster child..............we expect our elected officials to act in a professional manner, not like a school yard bully. If a Republican had said the things this fool says they would have been all over him demanding apologies and chastising him.........ie: Joe Wilson. What a bunch of hypocrites and the country is finally starting to open their eyes to the hypocrisy party that call themselves Democrats!

Why is it only that Rethuglicans get to use colorful, descriptive language? People who peddle influence and shill their votes to the highest bidder get called what they get called.

If Grayson supports HR1207 than he is smarter than Pelosi. But many people are smarter than Pelosi.
Why the house has not brought HR1207 to a vote yet is beyond every taxpayer in the nation. Per CNN yesterday the US dollar is now worth 0.045 cents. This is because since 1913 the Federal Reserve bank has been printing money out of thin air, push the value of our money lower and lower every year. many people now believe the US dollar is worthless. Time to Audit the fed. support HR1207!

This guy tells it like it is, and I appreciate it. He summed up the Repbublican health care proposals perfectly: "Don't get sick, and if you do, die quickly."

I have no doubt he described Robertson in accurate terms.

This guy is rude, immature, dishonest, obnoxious, and a narcissist, no wonder he is loved by every Democrat. See, the thing is every Democrat in America can relate with this guy because they are all exactly like him.

They have no morals or values, they feel not an ounce of remorse when they go on a hate-filled, angry, partisan lie filled attack fest. This is why you have to worry about a far leftist like Obama being in the White House.

Almost every one of his supporters is a person who would actually support the government rounding up the Democrat's neighbors who are not Democrats, having all their wealth and their property taken from them, their families separated, and then thrown in detention camps. You know how Obama feels about this, his comments made about republicans are why Van Jones was sought after by this administration. Don’t forget Obama telling us how he truly feels about middle America in Pennsylvania during the campaign. If he could, just what do you think he would want to do to them?

Yes, almost every Democrat in America would support this, the direct opposite of Conservatives who will put their life on the line so that their liberal neighbor has every right that they have guaranteed by the constitution. The left censors the truth sayers and wants to harm them and their families, the right stands up for lying libs to spew their hate based dishonesty and will fight till their last breath to protect their fellow liberal Americans.

Wow, congressmen get our soldiers killed for multinationals' interests, religiously take bribes from lobbyists, make absurd and completely false statements on the floor, waste our federal taxes on pet state projects, give massive welfare payments to huge corporations that rape, pillage and poison our economy and environment, give themselves raises and vacations and health care, and fart around while the poor get poorer, the sick get sicker, our children get dumber and more violent, our soldiers are getting killed and as we're running out of oil, food and water, yet we care about their 'outspoken' language?! Sick.
