Grayson spokesman defends 'whore' comment

(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."

The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.

Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."

Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.

"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.

The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.

"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.

Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."

The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

As much as I hate the Republican party at the moment for all of their idiotic, hate-filled rhetoric for the past couple of years, this doesn't help things. It doesn't do the country any good for the dems to stoop to the Republican's level. The Democratic party should come out and strongly condemn this kind of talk.

When will this guy just sit down and be quiet? He got one zinger in about health care and now he is the mouth piece of the liberal left? Grayson, your 15 minutes were up, oh about a month ago! As far as Jurkowki, remember how after ten months Bush is still being blamed and attacked? So then a conversation a few shorts weeks ago is now off limits? STILL trying to have it both ways, eh, liberals?

I like this guy! I saw him interviewed recently, never having seen or heard of him before, and I was very impressed with his straight forward, blunt talk. Almost Trumanesqe in quality! We need more people like this in DC, especially from a state like Florida, which is clearly overloaded with political boneheads.

Just another example of a congressional nut case! How is it in a country of aprox. 350 million people that Grayson is the best we can do? I might let this guy cut my lawn, but he in no way should be in a position to vote on policies that will impact my children for decades. Grayson does serve one positive purpose...he's the poster child for why we need Term Limits!

What a mug this guy has, he looks like a thug for Louisiana gov Huey Long. The comment" "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist" the key word is "used to be", why is he not one now. Makes you wonder.

I like this guy! He really calls it as he sees it and doesn't tip toe around the truth as so many politicians do. He cuts to the chase using as few words as possible and saying what everyone else is thinking but afraid to say.

    GO GRAYSON!

This is the whole problem with all of these jokers! Well, Mr. Weiner, which is it? You think he's a jerk, or you're an apologetic fool afraid to stand by what you say.

  22. Randolph Carter, I'm no expert but.....

Do you really want to do that? Do you really want to audit the Federal reserve? Do you really want to open the black box and see that the illusion that sustains capitalism itself is just that: an illusion? Yeah, like that wouldn't cause the collapse of our economy faster than you can say Greenspan was an idiot. But I guess republicans want this country to fail so that they can say I told you so. Oh well. Have a nice day!

Republicans will criticize this guy, Grayson. Even if he said unappropriate things, the Republicans with their attack machines way outnumber this type of performance. Maybe they cannot take their own kind of "medicine."

Isn't he the same guy who wants old people to die quietly? Yeah, yeah, we all know he tried to blame his idea on somebody else.

He wants to help pull the plug on your Grandma so he can share in the billions the health care "reform" scam will suck out of Medicare.
