Grayson spokesman defends 'whore' comment

(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."

The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.

Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."

Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.

"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.

The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.

"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.

Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."

The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

    Good for Grayson.

He calls them as he sees them, and Bernancke and his people are as slippery as they get.

It's great to have a politician stand up for average people.

Considering what right wing talking heads and right wing bloggers have called our President and first lady day in and day out, I don't see the issue. What's wrong, Republicans/right wingers can dish it out but not take it?

Quite frankly, the rhetoric needs to be toned down on both sides . However, as long as there are people like Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh out there filling the air waves with their ignorant, hateful rhetoric, don't be surprised when other people react with same.

  10. Seriously, Left

He is just showing his ignorance......too bad he can't cash in on his remarks like our friend from South Carolina. Grayson is an embarassment to Florida, whether you are a democrat or republican. Also, where is the NOW again.....MIA?

The bigger question – why did it tale so long for his offensive comments to surface? Yet another example of liberal bias in the media. If he was a republican – it would have been publised within 10 minutes of the comment....and Bo claims Fox is unfair and not balanced. Thank God for FOX news.

I am very happy we have a Congressman who says what most of us would like to say but don't.
Mr. Grayson is one of the more honest politicians we have. Proud of him.

This is great stuff. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D) says Rep. Grayson (D)is "one fry short of a Happy Meal". This from a guy who's big accomplishment in Congress last year was sponsoring a bill that would increase the number of H-1B visas available to foreign fashion models. Gotta love those Democrats!

I like this man, funny how we have all these problems in this country and both parties have a lot of real work to do and the NRCC digs up something that was said over a month ago just to cause trouble......has nothing to do with fixing the problems of this country.......Republicans are good a trying to dig up dirt on democrats because they know they are losing their party and going down the toliet quick........by the way, know one said he was a lying about this woman.......maybe the GOP is just mad cause they didn't think to say this first about this woman......

I think its ironic that theres such an outcry against this one Dem for a controversial comment...yet theres an entire political party, a news channel, and several commentators that call such actions a career. Not to mention a silly little man who finds justification in heckling the president when it was he himself voted for illegal immigrant benefits.

Leave it to the GOP to cry foul when their rules are used against them.

  25. Health Care Reform not Social Reform

If this guy was a republican spewing this stuff the left would be calling for his head. Instead since it is one of thiers speaking their language it's ok. It's freedom of speech until you don't agree and then it's hate speech, well only if it's about liberals or worst yet, the messiah Obama. Then it's not only hate speech it's racism.

On the health care front the liberals are once again lying to the public. Don't worry. Pelosi has found a way to fix health care. She says they need to change the " public option " to the " consumer option" and that will get people behind it. UGH , this country is doomed.
