Grayson spokesman defends 'whore' comment

(CNN) - A spokesman for Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is defending the outspoken congressman's recent comment calling an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "K Street whore."

The comments - directed toward Bernanke aide Linda Robertson - came during a radio interview a month ago but are just now circulating Capitol Hill.

Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski said the congressman's comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

"She actually questioned his understanding of the difference between fiscal and monetary policy," he said in a statement to CNN. "She had the audacity to attack a congressman who used to be an economist. She's a career lobbyist who used to work for Enron and advocates for whatever she gets paid to promote."

Jurkowski also questioned why the comments are making news a month after the interview aired.

"Why is this coming up now? This interview happened weeks ago. This is just another way for the NRCC to attack their number 1 target," he said.

The comments are the latest in a string of controversial statements from the freshman congressman, who last month angered Republicans but became a hero to the left when he declared on the House floor that the GOP health care plan is to let sick people "die quickly."

Several Democrats have said Grayson's language describing Robertson was inappropriate.

"Is this news to you that this guy's one fry short of a Happy Meal?" New York Rep. Anthony Weiner told Politico.

Weiner later issued a statement calling his remark about Grayson 'playful' and said the Florida Democrat is "a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress."

The Republican National committee also weighed in on the comments, calling them "disgraceful, inappropriate and disrespectful to women."

Once again, Kudos to Rep. Grayson for calling out the liars, cheats and manure spreaders on the Republican side. These people have done nothing right, promoted failed policies, endorsed corruption and greed, and sent our economy into the toilet. They're being exposed as the cretins they are and now they're trying every dirty trick they can to say 'NO' to anything the Democrats try to fix the problems left behind by eight years of Bush and GOP failure. Pathetic.

If a Republican said this, the media, the DNC, the feminists, and everyone else would be screaming bloody murder. This is sexist. I wish you hypocritical libs would stand up and stop being silent.

The congressman’s comments are degrading and an outrage! He should be forced to apologize to all prostitutes immediately for comparing them to a republican lobbyist.

Kiss your mother with that mouth Grayson?

I love how Grayson is outraged that someone would question a congressman. Heaven forbid!

This guy is a health care "hero"? Why? Because he referenced some junk science that inaccurately stated that 44000 die per year w/o insurance? Then he blames the republicans for not being able to pass this bill. News flash, Democrats can pass the bill w/o republicans. Why don't they do it?

Some hero. Hey hero...How many people die with insurance? Does HR 3200 stop that?

Rep. Grayson seriously needs to stop stooping down to the level of those he usually insults. Just because I agree with many of his views, his juvenile remarks show that he shouldn't be making decisions in Congress.
Then again, he is acting no worse than most Republicans so I guess I'd rather put up with listening to his idiotic comments.

Maybe he's planning on being the Rush Limbaugh of the Left, except without the drug addiction and three ex-wives. Oh, and Grayson managed to finish college. Oh yeah, he's not afraid to debate face to face, like Rush refuses to do. But other than that, he'd be a perfect counter balance to Limbaugh and his Lemmnings.

This has nothing to do with any specific person, including Rep. Alan Grayson. The tactics presented here have been used by both parties. Although, I find it appalling that people from both parties continue to give attention to such antagonizing tactics. These tactics are used very successfully in order to energize the base. Until the base of both parties start to ignore such comments, there will still be politicians in any party willing to say such extreme comments. Period.

Grayson is a person who is just trying to get his name out there as much as possible as when election time rolls around he hopefully will be soundly defeated. It is classical morons like this that make politicians a laughing stock. He has no idea what he is talking about and cannot find one solid study or reasearch backed up by fact to support his wild and insane comments. Like a child, he just wants attention. Unfortunately there are more and more of these types on Capital Hill spewing their stupidity and are allowed to make decisions that affect those who are hard working people not the ones who have their hands out for just that.

To Mr. Grayson: I am from Florida and think you are doing a heck of a job!! Keep up the good work. We have had Republicans calling the president and us Democrats every name in the book. When the shoe is on the other foot, they cry foul.

This is typical of the new attitude in the white house. Destroy all who oppose you!
Like the white house going after FOX news.
Did they stop to think for one minute that the nations that don't have free press that we keep telling them that to have true democracy they need a free press and need government to engage the press, well I'm sure those nations are saying why should we, you don't!

I lean rather left on the political spectrum and will be the first to call Republicans and Conservatives out for abhorrent behavior. But I do so when behavior is reprehensible. Congratulations Congressman, you have taken political discourse into the sewer with you. Now go to your office and don't come out until you are ready to honestly and sincerely apologize for engaged your mouth without first engaged your mind.
