Jarrett makes, retracts charge Fox is biased

(CNN) – The White House carefully continued its assault on Fox News Tuesday, as a senior White House adviser told CNN's Campbell Brown that the network was "of course" biased against the Obama administration, but immediately backtracked slightly.

Speaking at the Women's Conference in California, White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett said the Obama administration is "calling everybody out" when it comes to "patterns of distortion" - echoing the Democratic National Committee's "Call 'em Out" campaign that targets critics of the president's health care plan.

To the question of whether Fox News is biased, Jarrett replied: "Well, of course they're biased. Of course they are."

But when Brown followed up by asking Jarrett if she thinks MSNBC is biased, she quickly downplayed her original remark. "Actually, I don't want to generalize all of Fox is biased or that another station is biased. I think what we want to do is look at it on a case-by-case basis," she said. "When we see a pattern of distortion, we're going to be honest about that pattern of distortion....

"We're actually calling everybody out. So this isn't anything that's simply directed at Fox. We just want the American people to have a really clear understanding," said Jarrett.

Fox is biased, MSNBC and NBC are biased. NBC sells Obama paraphernalia. The press has been always liberal slanted. The Left just doesn't like that a network is reporting stuff that makes Obama look bad. In the 2004 election most of the networks ran that the jobeless rate was up. It was from a all time low and still lower than Clintons time in office ( I like Clinton, I wish he could be re elected). It's just a matter of time till the claim that they are racist comes out.. They can't stand the criticism so they want to stop the critic instead of facing them.

It's amazing the people on the left called their criticism of Bush " Patriotic " yet criticism of Obama is racist. Its Freedom of speech if you agree with them ( the left ) ,it's hate speech if you don't.

Fox news is preaching to the choir. It's not as if they are gaining any liberal viewers. The only people who watch Fox are the same ones who voted for McCain and we all know how well he did in the last election. America is a progressive nation once again and we will fix the terrible damage the conservatives have done to this country. Bush had 8 years to screw everything up, give Obama at least 1/2 that much time to fix it.

What baffles me is WHY the administration thinks it's okay to 'call everybody out'. This nation has it's insanities for sure, but one of the blessed things of our nation is the right to disagree, and do it polietly without wrath. It's hard to swallow differences especially when there is an agenda....but it's necessary to continue to uphold the American values this country has been built on. Heck I don't think abortion should be on the books or even government involved with that and I think marriage belongs strickly between a man and a woman, leaving the civil issues for the courts, but I don't hunt down those who disagree with me..I respect their right to disagree whether they are right or wrong from my viewpoint.

Wow, can't stand it that every single network is in the tank for Obama except FOX.............#1 in ratings for a reason, they speak the truth that the others cover up. don't be so closed minded, listen to both sides instead of just the liberals spoon feeding you what they want you to know and nothing else.

  6. Dumb Liberals

Talk about Fox dumbing down America! People, people, people! You liberals are the dumb ones when you can't even see what is right in front of you. CNN (once refered to as the Clinton News Network) is undoubtedly LIBERAL, MSNBS, come on now, we don't even want to go there, CBS, remember that old baffoon Dan Rather(not)? 99% of all news networks are undoubtedly LIBERAL and you people freak out because of the only Conservative network? You guys are in a panic over the surge in Fox ratings....undoubtedly, you should be....LIBERALS will not be winning elections in a landslide in the coming elections...enjoy what majorities you had....SUCKERS!

Fox is obviously a more conservative station and MSNBC and CNN, etc are clearly more liberal. Personally, I don't like to be told what to think by either so I will tune into both occasionally, just to get a different spin on things. This is America guys, freedom of speech should be protected but the media shouldn't be out there pushing an agenda. Their job is to inform, not persuade. I doubt it will ever get better, but it is nice to have opposing points of view on the news now. Whether you do or don't like the President it is important to think through the issues on your own and not just regurgitate what your favorite news station is saying.

Sorry, Campbell Brown is a left-wing loon. MSNBC is a bunch of ranting perverts. Fox is the only network asking questions, and holding the administration accountable.

I wish I could understand why there is a need to apologize for or retract comments that are absolutely true.

Fox News, as everyone knows (though not all will admit to), is a mouthpiece for the ultra-Right Wing and the Republican Party. Those who deny this, silently or audibly, are either deflecting or trying to delude themselves.

It's one thing to be journalistically irresponsible. One could at least admit to it.

    What a World!

Jarrett is not the judge of that. FOX is biased. When compared to MSNBC, FOX airs more lies.

yes Fox started a war against the entire Democratic party, it is blatantly obvious...the fact Fox calls themselves "fair" and "balanced" and "news" is laughable

Liberal panic?? Like the panic from the Bush Administration over the lies of WMD's in Iran??

A sinking ship is when the leader of your party, like Dubya, has less than a 28% approval rating and sinking... then you KNOW your party is sinking and going down to Davey Jones locker!!

I watched the Bush Administration sink to the bottom of the sea, and it was well earned because they brought it on themselves!!!

When Obama's numbers get down to 28%... I'll consider his ship sinking too... until then, Republicans have nothing but sour grapes to gripe about!!!

YES! YES!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOX 'FIX' NEWS is biased. We are not talking about the primetime TV anchors who are entitlled to their own WARPED ideas, we are talking about ALL OF FOX NEWS. They are anti-Obama. Anyone who is truthful knows the truth. FOX is not a news organization, or sorry, they are Republican party news/propaganda wing. They do not hide their Lies and Deception. They have made outright false assertions and racist comments about the president and CNN is trying to act as if this notion is new. CNN incase you do not know it or you are guys are in FOX's pocket; FOX NEWS is not a news organization.

Hah, sinking ship, that's funny. You mean sinking ship as in 30% of the country identifies themselves as Republican kind of sinking ship? I think Fox should be allowed to do whatever they want- they can wave swastikas around for all I care, it just reveals their true nature and its an ideology America is getting more and more fed up with. Even the most insane right-wingers I know realize the drivel O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity spin is beyond nutty- and definitely NOT news in any way shape or form. They may be a popular network and while their omission of facts is scurrilous, even dangerous, that doesn't necessarily mean people ascribe to their point of view

Please read an actual study of media bias. Empirical data does not lie and the years since this study have skewed further left.

Fox News is no more conservatively biased than ABC, NBC and CNN are liberally biased. Fox only seems "biased" because everybody has grown accustomed to an incredibly liberal media that is always attempting to push an agenda rather than just reporting the news.

The last news broadcast I trusted for the truth was Walter Cronkite. That being said, most of the networks are biased so far to the left, that Fox sticks out even though it's closer to balanced than the rest. Fox had the ACORN story a full week before the rest of the networks picked it up. Why is that? Oh I forgot, it made liberals look bad. By the way, if Obama can't handle Fox, how is he ever going to handle Russia, North Korea and Iran?

I watch CNN news and AC360 and sometimes Larry King and always watch The Cafferty File on the Situation Room. Other than those shows, I no longer listen to or watch CNN. LOU DOBBS and CAMPBELL BROWN turned me off to CNN. Now KEITH OLBERMANN, RACHEL MADDOW, CHRIS MATTHEWS AND THE ED SHOW have my attention while I record AC360.

When I want good news I listen to CNN and MSNBC. When I want a good laugh, I listen to FIX NEWS.
