Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush spoke in Washington on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Since his brother left office in January, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has been mostly diplomatic when discussing the Obama administration.

On Wednesday, he took a sharper tone.

During remarks to a U.S. Chamber of Commerce legal summit in Washington, Bush had tough words for the president in response to an audience question.

"I think President Obama has used the bully pulpit as a way to attack capitalism," he said, according to LegalNewsline.com.

Bush paused a moment, then acknowledged: "That'll make the news."

go and take care of your family!!! and your hypocritical son, who decided to join the National Reserves and now is going to be sent overseas all for his political career!! (his words not mine!) this family is shameful, sick and corrupt!!! it would be interesting to see if he ever would run for Pres. and how the Republicans would cover up all of his foibles (ie: affairs, money under the table, etc.)!!

Willsooooon!!!   October 29th, 2009 9:46 pm ET

Hey hey hey.....you're a Bush. You don't get to talk much less have an opinion.

Rob   October 29th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

I'll take Socialism under Obama over corporate GREED under a Bush ANY DAY!

Squigman   October 29th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

No, your stinking brother tried to do away with the capitalistic system of government by ruining the economy, and making the biggest economic mess, since the great depression of the 1930's. You and your whole family are nuttier than a squirrels hideout.

Mr. Bush where was your concern for America the last eight years? Just shut up and crawl back under a rock with your brother and Cheney

Bushed   October 29th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

Shut up Jeb! Enough of all of you. George the Father, George the Son and Jeb the Holy Ghost.

Perusing-through   October 29th, 2009 9:30 pm ET

. . . . Just like you Jeb Bush used your Florida Governorship to invade the home and lives of a husband and his wife who was unconscious and in a vegetative state for 7-years; as you crusade your religious views and place the weight of Florida on a man who already had the weight of the world on his back.

Yes, Jeb. YOU ARE THE HYPOCRITE!

Ben   October 29th, 2009 9:23 pm ET

Seems like fixating on violence against an abstract concept is familial to the Bush clan. And this one's the 'smart' one.

Brian   October 29th, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Oh yes, his idea of capitalism is to privatize every facet of government, and grant all the contracts to his political allies, paying 70% more for the same service.

So his rich friends get richer gouging the state for revenues to run these privatized organizations, paying the upper management huge salaries while paying the front line personnel 10 to 15 dollars an hour.

The guy has no clue!

JES   October 29th, 2009 9:17 pm ET

When will the American people wake up and see socialism is coming.

Liberals are Hypocrites (but OF COURSE CNN won't print this!   October 29th, 2009 9:07 pm ET

OF COURSE Obama is trying to attack capitalism. Capitalism stands for America's individual effort and achievement. Obama has NEVER achieved ANYTHING other than community organizing (which is basically collecting "donations" for a "cause"). And WE KNOW that THAT cause was ACORN!

A.B.   October 29th, 2009 9:02 pm ET

Jeb Bush is an idiot!! President Obama is trying to save capitalism from its own excesses and weakness, both of which would lead to its destruction and that of the country. These days the conservative movement is so irrational and is driven with race hatred, that it is blind to the truth. First of all, the birthers brought a meritless and ridiculous lawsuit in an effort to invalidate President Obama's election and failed when the U.S. District Court dismissed it. The case had no logical, factual or legal basis from the onset. The conservative movement consist of bigots who cannot stand the fact that a black man is President of the United States. THIS IS THE FACE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!

Albo58   October 29th, 2009 8:57 pm ET

Jeb is absolutely correct! Since his inauguration, this President has worked hard to take over our banks, auto market, health care, energy programs, Wall Street, educational institutions, etc. As a matter of fact, he has tried to instill the thought that government is the answer to ALL our problems. And despite his efforts, private industry has paved the way for an increase in the GDP!

Kelly   October 29th, 2009 8:55 pm ET

Obama spends more time determining how to best undermine capitalism than he spends on the life and death decisions of our troops in Afghanistan.

Fair Trade Competition   October 29th, 2009 8:44 pm ET

We began eliminating monopolies in the early 1900's. Why not require competition in the health care insurance market also, we require it everywhere else?

Why is the GOP protecting a conspiracy to exploit the American Public on Health Care?

Bust the Insurance Monopoly!

Public Health and Public Option go Hand in Hand
Insurance profits, high cost and denial of care go with private insurance.

Public Health is vital to Homeland Security.
H1N1 virus handled by Homeland Security.

If Joe Lieberman doesn't support Public Health and the Public Option–it's Good bye Joe. Pull the chair out from under the Chairman. We need a new Homeland Security Chairman.

Southernhrt   October 29th, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Funny good ole capitalism made Obama rich by the sale of his books. Did anyone think that should be restricted? Of course not he could make as much money as he wanted but it is not a good thing for others in our country.

jd   October 29th, 2009 8:42 pm ET

I give up. I will just wait for the economy to totally collapse–everyone out of a job. Those 5% of the taxpayers who are paying for everyone else having moved from the country to find a more hospitable place to live, and then, when people here who have been accustomed to having their food brought to the door, starving, maybe then, I can say "I told you so". Obama is a very sick, sick joke, and the liberals who support him (unless they are welfare recipients) will realize they are fools.

andrea   October 29th, 2009 8:38 pm ET

This Country can not handle another BUSH. I do not care what they think they have to say...it ain't so!!!

Tim   October 29th, 2009 8:37 pm ET

Capitalism maybe should be attacked when it goes to far in one direction. Capitalism unchecked brings us the Financial Crisis, poor Health Care, or NO Health Care. Health Care should not be a PROFIT CENTER, and Financial and Business should have enough regulation to prevent the human nature of "lye, cheat, and steal" when the opportunity of NO Regulation is the game. Deregulation has proven to not work, and it never will, human nature will always take hold, and the only check is balanced regulation.

Exiled   October 29th, 2009 8:29 pm ET

I know that Rush and Glenn Beck are telling you Republicans that Obama and the socialist are irrevocably changing capitalism forever, and you Democrats believe that he is changing things for the better... I would implore all of you to learn to think for yourselves...

To the Republicans...The evil socialist stimulus package started in the fall of 2008, when the beloved Mr. Bush was in office, he signed the initial bailout package for AIG, GM, et al.

To the Democrats...Mr. Obama, while charismatic hasn't done anything that he promised to do, it is more of the same.

Stop all the hate mongering, think for yourselves and start adding some ideas to the debate!

rob vukovic   October 29th, 2009 8:05 pm ET

Capitalism needs to be attacked, just review the evidence. ENRON, WORLDCOMM, Halliburton, the U.S. auto industry, prescription drug costs, healthcare costs, consumer ripoffs by the banking and insurance industries etc.. are just a few examples of defects in our capitalist system. This is brought to you by an unapologetic socialist.

Emma   October 29th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

If Jeb knew economics well and studied of how some aspects of Capitalism have been destructive for our country, he would not say what he did. He fits into the same group as Palin and would work toward an unregulated Capitalism.

Peter E   October 29th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

The only attack capitalism got are the billions upon billions of dollars of bailout all those corporations got to save their executives' bonuses. In turn they thumbed their noses at us, refusing to change the corrupt practices that led us into this recession in the first place. I want my taxpayer's money's worth! So if we are going to save the economy, then we need to reform. If not, then why no let capitalism take its due course and let all those corporations completely fail? Oh, but then the CEOs will lose their jobs, and we can't have that! Hypocrites!

I am Newt's ex wife   October 29th, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Uh oh...I smell another Bush trying to run for President....yuck!!

Now...here's the real scopp..."W" attacked capitalism every day and lost millions of jobs....why isn't his brother bothered by that.

History does repaet itself. Every time A Popular Democrat gets in office....the GOP pulls out the old Playbook....which has only two things in it.

1 This democrat is a socialist
or
1 This Democrat is a Liberal

People never learn and the GOP counts on people to stay dumb

jay in denver   October 29th, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Would every one of the people who post something about the "evils" of socialism please pledge to take their own garbage to the dump, clean their own streets, deliver their own mail, police their own neighborhoods, fight their own fires, home school their children, and never check out a book from their public libraries for the rest of their lives? Otherwise their endless carping smacks of the obvious hypocrisy that it is. Like it or not, we ARE a socialist society. That means we all pay taxes so that everyone may benefit from services our government provides to those living in this great nation. If you are so greedy that this wonderfully American ideal offends you that much, I feel nothing but pity for you. Socialism is not communism, people, no matter how many times you try to equate the two.

Bottom line: every time a conservative, "free-market" Republican has been in charge, the economy of this nation has either gone in the tank or been mortgaged to the hilt. Every time. You are, of course, entitled to your own opinions. But you are not entitled to your own facts. Go away, Jeb. You are not putting your country first, only your brother's base.

Limbaugh is a liberal   October 29th, 2009 7:58 pm ET

Yes, after the biggest recession in 80 years has been caused by Dubya, I'm sure people should listen to a Bush when it comes to the economy.

usualone   October 29th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

Americans do need help and this President is willing to help those in need. The Jeb Bush's of the world either are not realistic or want the country to go down the tube. Things are slowly turning around thanks to this administration. Of course it would be nice if people could handle things by themselves, but millions of people do need the country's leaders to help them out. When folk get back on their feet, capitalism will thrive. I guess Jeb would like those in New Orleans and Mississippi figure out how to help themselves by themselves. That's his idea of capitalism most likely.

We Won Get Over It   October 29th, 2009 7:47 pm ET

Another "has been" republican heard from...wonder if like his grandfather Prescott Bush he will get together with a bunch of corporations and try to "overthrow the government"..

Didn't work for Prescott Bush won't work for the republican crazies today.

Guess this won't get posted because it pans republicans.

Idiot_Pelosi   October 29th, 2009 7:47 pm ET

To the people who say we are idiots when we call OBUMMER a socialist.

Well, you must be the idiot. I've had to pay my way for a long time, and what I'm not going to do, is pay your way. You can suck up to OBOZO all you want hoping he is going to give you something for nothing.

GW Bush wasn't the greatest, but Obama may be Carter as the worst.

All we have to do is look at the DEFICIT, thanks to Obozo's socialist agenda When OBOZO gets it back down (laugh laugh) to the Bush level, then maybe you can talk. Until then, YOU PAY HIS NEW TAXES, YOU PAY HIS NEW FEES, YOU PAY FOR HIS DEFICIT because I will not.

Cheating on my taxes, starting for year 2009.

Aaron southern IL   October 29th, 2009 7:46 pm ET

Our President is trying to "attack capitalism"? My dear Jeb, not even your nitwit brother is THAT stupid.

On the contrary, our President, through NECESSARY intervention, is trying to SAVE capitalism from your selfish, greedy, billionare friends.

Idiot_Pelosi   October 29th, 2009 7:43 pm ET

Well, Jeb Bush told a fact.

OBAMA is a SOCIALIST with SOCIALIST POLICIES, and Obummer can go stick his policies where the socialist sun doesn't shine.

SOUTHERN HOTTIE   October 29th, 2009 7:41 pm ET

Really, Jeb? What did you your brah do to this country?

Please be quiet, in fact, just go away. Very far, far, away.

Dawn, Ada, Ohio   October 29th, 2009 7:39 pm ET

I think that Jeb should look in his own back yard first before he starts looking at people who are trying to destroy our country. This man's brother brought this country to it's knees by giving corporations anything and everything they wanted. Anything that is not regulated ends up being corrupted.

Shelly CO   October 29th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

What is he taking about? His big brother and Cheney have destroyed many lives with all the casualties of the wrong war in Iraq destroyed the economy by giving the wealthy tax cuts and ignoring the poor and middle class, destroyed our Privacy rights, destroyed our reputation around the world with arrogance, destroyed lives of many after Katrina.
And he has the GALL.....look at your own selves and those close to you first before judging others.

Luis in CA   October 29th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

LYNETTE IN CA   October 29th, 2009 7:32 pm ET

I think Jeb should shut his mouth! His brother messed this country up so bad that no one in the family should speak about the current administration ...ever!

Four and The Door   October 29th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

Jeb Bush is exactly correct. Capitalism is a system that uses the natural power of competition to allow the best products to be delivered most efficiently. It is brutal for anything less.

The Public Option health care insurance plan ignores everything about capitalism and will be detrimental to our national health care industry. That is too bad because efficient health care is such an important part of our society. It's not perfect now of course, but a Public Option will just make it worse. At least everybody will get to share in the lousy system!

Marty, Grand Rapids MI   October 29th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

"attack capitalism". That is the dumbest thing I have heard since Bush left office. Capitalism attacked itself. Obama is just cleaning up the mess. He did what anyone would do who had to do risk management for 300 million people.

Waiting for intelligent arguments from the GOP.

Royster   October 29th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

Jeb must be feeling the lack of publicity recently what with Palin's Book and Charlie Crist not knowing Obama's in his own state of FL...........note Jeb's comment 'That'll make the news'!

Jeb, if you attacked your own brother ('WORST President EVER!') Dubya, imagine the publicity you would get! You'd be on Oprah!

James Michael Roberson   October 29th, 2009 7:26 pm ET

Jeb would probably like to run for president. He would probably do a better job than his brother. But I think we need to keep a democrat in the WH at least until we straighten out the terrible mess the republicans have created.

Suzan   October 29th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

The BLAME GAME thats all the Republicans know how to do........at least Obama has done more for this country in just his 9 months in office than your brother and Chaney did in the 8 years that he was in office......oh I take that back, Bush drove this country down the path of failure faster than any president.

Damian from Boulder   October 29th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

Because anyone with the last name Bush is an authority on anything? Hey Jeb – your Daddy inherited a debt free country and managed to run it into the ground in 8 years. And you have anything critical to say? Sit down bro, and close thy mouth please. How about hammering out some lines of Oxy with your boy Rush so thatyou can remain with numb to the fact that your Daddy created an unsustainable predicament for Capitalism.

This mess we are in right now started before George Bush was ever president. Read the community reinvestment act of 1999 came out of Franks committe and was signed by Bill Clintion. This Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack started back in the middle 1970's If you want to blame someone get the facts. Actually G Bush back in2004 asked congress to investigate this and they would not.

There is no socialist agenda. Free markets are non-existent. Every other industrialized country protects its own economy and is beating the pants off the US, with our giveaways to the free trade god. That's why the country is headed down the drain. Read former Sen. Fritz Hollings on the Huffington Post today for some enlightment about what's really going on.

It is time for the republican politicians to take off the gloves, stop being the gentleman, and attack like the dems. All it takes is a key phrase here and there. The dems are nothing but ignorant bullies supported by the those who want everything but don't want to work hard for it and I personally am very tired of feeling like I am listening to preschoolers!

Why would anyone listen to another Bush.

Jeff in Houston   October 29th, 2009 6:45 pm ET

If by attacking you mean capitalism run amock, then yes. i hope he succeeds. This is not capitalism Mr. Bush. The is repacious greed and a careless disregaurd for the people of this nation, and you know it. Any doubts, check your extended family portfolio and those of your fatcat friends. Check on the number of people who have lost their homes. i say number for you likely do not knwo the name of anyone who has lost their home.

By the way, what of your brother's attack on our constitution? No wait. Sorry. What about Cheney's attack on the consitution while he had his hand up the back of your borther's shirt as if he were a hand puppet?

So I guess this is an improvement on calling Obama a Socialist (or Communist or Marxist or Fascist or Racist or whatever...) and claiming that he "pals around" with terrorists, isn't really an American, is the puppet of corporations, special interests, unnamed foreign powers, anyone someone doesn't like, etc., etc., etc.? Huh. The Republicans really need to grow up.

Jaime   October 29th, 2009 6:37 pm ET

Mr. Jeb your family name has been tarnished and stained with the disgrace and troubles you're brother had caused to the nation and the world. If I were you I would retreat, retire, and live a quiet life. No one serious in this world will ever take the Bush family seriously anymore. You and your brother are nothing but a bunch of vampires who do not care about the ordinary Americans. Instead your allegiance falls with the pockets of the fat pigs and cats in wall street. Do us a favor and disappear from public life. Thanks.

Will 18 E   October 29th, 2009 6:34 pm ET

So Jeb was it capitalism, when your brother broke the Bank in the Saving and Loans crisis. Or was it-when you and your wife returned from overseas, and committed a crime, when-you did not declares thousand's of dollars in purchases to U.S. Customs, upon reentering the country?

Amazing   October 29th, 2009 6:33 pm ET

Trying to...........he is. Obama is too stupid to realize killing capitalism is killing the very people who fund all of his give aways. If everyone was on the freebie band wagon, who would pay for it? Eventually he will run out of millionaires.............then what?

Rajinder Goyal   October 29th, 2009 6:29 pm ET

What a non-sensoick and insult comment, coming from another Bush. Can we or should we expoect anything better? It seems as if right wing republicans are just looking for an excuse to attack President Obama. Capitalism is, in the minds of republicans, 'a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich'. Mr. Obama is a smart, intelligent and a caring individual who wants to change things for an average American. It is my prediction that given the right amount of time, he will surprise a lot of Americans.

It shou not be forgotten that a building that has been demolished takes a lot of time to put back up, one brick at a time.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   October 29th, 2009 6:29 pm ET

He comes from a family that has made a legacy of "attacking capitalism", so if anyone should know it would be Jeb.

anonymous   October 29th, 2009 6:28 pm ET

You're right, angrymob. The ones who believe PRESIDENT Obama is a socialist do indeed have "half a brain".

notfooledtx   October 29th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

And the opinion of a "bush" should mean anything to us?

Bush, the second most toxic name in politics – a close second only to cheney.

Louis   October 29th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

I don't think that capitalism is dead. It is a system that should be working for all of us. Instead, it has been used lately to ensure that the rich get richer and good luck to the rest of us. Jeb Bush's brother ensured that the rich folks in this country got PAID!!! Now he want to say that President Obama is attacking capitalism. I think President Obama is trying to attack unregulated, unadultered GREED!!! Obviously, the Wall Street fat cats did not learn anything from the first time they sank the economy like the Titanic!!!. They are back to their old tricks as CNN and other news organizations have reported. Capitalism, especially the way it is now practiced, should be under siege, for the economic well being of ALL of us!!!

Joe   October 29th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

A capitalist is a person that order a kobe burger for $40.00. A socialist is a person that gets his burger for a buck at McD. This country has both the person that get his food with a VISA credit card and the one that gets it with an EBT "food stamps" card. Obama can't do but satisfy both. Health care. Some can afford a $400.00 premium, and some are on Medicaid. It's a capitalist and socialist society we live in now, before and in the future and you cannot change it.

Tracy-Oakley   October 29th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

GREED has killed capitalism; pure & simple GREED....next

Phat Elvis   October 29th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

another unfounded attack by another idiot Bush. there is a difference between a 'free market" and a "free-for-all-Market"– Repubs want the latter, and accuse anyone of being enemies of freedom and capitalism if they question their "entitlement" to it.

Stu- SW Florida   October 29th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Ray in Nashville   October 29th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

Let's look at the Bush family record, shall we. George H. W. Bush continued the economic practices of President Reagan and his presidency ended in the midst of a severe recession caused in no small part by his favoritism of the wealthy elite/big business interests over the middle class in this country. George W. Bush took over a healthy economy with a reduced deficit and proceded to reduce the taxes on the very rich at the expense of the middle class while at the same time embroiling us in an un-necessary war and running up massive deficits, ending his presidency with an even worse recession, which left our economy teetering on the verge of total collapse. I'd say we don't need any more economic advice from anyone named Bush.

Sensible Joe   October 29th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

We Floridians remember Jeb Bush: when he got done being our governor, our state economy was in shambles, our budget surplus was gone, and our infrastructure, educational system and public services were tanking for want of tax dollars. But hey, the developers and insurance companies did fine and dandy. His notion of "capitalism" is geared to the few, not to the common good. America can't afford it.

ran   October 29th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

The business community (big oil,big banks, health insurance, energy etc.) need to either treat the people fairly or be taken over by the government.

They want the government to help them when they are in trouble but scream when the government stops them from "screwing" the people.

lila   October 29th, 2009 6:13 pm ET

It was your brother that tried to nationalize our banks... and that is the heart of socialism. It was Obama that stopped the process of nationalization of our banks that your brother put in place. It was Obama that saved capitalism from the capitalist. This nitwit, can not even remember history that's less than a year old. Jeb is clearly a loser.

sameoldyellowdog   October 29th, 2009 6:09 pm ET

well duh.....capitalism hasn't exactly done all that great the past couple years, thanks to the other Bush. President Obama isn't attacking capitalism so much as maybe tweaking it a bit, maybe to where everyone can play in the game.

mary   October 29th, 2009 6:04 pm ET

Allen in Hartwell GA   October 29th, 2009 6:02 pm ET

President Obama has used his office to attack GREED, something Republican politicians equate with capitalism. Maybe if he can break up all the monopolistic cooperations to allow true competition we might have what true capitalism stands for.

Pete   October 29th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

That's rich coming from a member of a family that's been sucking on the public teat for decades.

Mike in MN   October 29th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

One thing is for sure, Obama seems to hate profits. The numbers indicate health insurance companies do not make excessive profits, their profits margins are middle of the road, average. They are not saints, they need some reform, but they don't seem to be price gouging based on their profit margin. But Obama attacks profits whenever it suits his cause. Who would go through all the work of creating a business or coorporation if there would be no profit? And if there is no business or cooporations, there are no jobs. The more profitable business is in the US the more GDP there will be, the more jobs there will be, the more tax revenue there will be to pay for all of Obama's big government growth. Obama is an idiot.

unshrub   October 29th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

Allowing those in Wall Street to steal everyone's money doesn't make republicans capitalist. Capitalism isn't the rich get richer on the backs of the working class. If capitalism fails, it isn't because of the workers, it's because of the greedy. Capitalism allows for the little guy to make money from his work and ideas, it is not letting those on Wall Street steal from everyone to get richer.

The Bush ideology of unregulated corporate greed is what attributed to this mess off the backs of middle-class Americans.

Shame on you, Jeb, for continuing to condone such irresponsible behavior. Our country deserves better.

John, Brooklyn, NY   October 29th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

The American people need to understand...

Capitalism is simply a method of running an economy. It is neither the basis for, nor protected by the Constitution.

Therefore, the Republicans (and Jeb Bush specifically) need to understand that THEIR attacks on civil liberties – which ARE guaranteed and protected under the Constitution – are much more damaging to the country than the Obama Administration's attempt to save the economy by injecting federal money into the private sector.

D. Tree   October 29th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

What a load of utter nonsense, Jeb!

You think that because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, anything that makes people like you have to actually WORK is somehow "against capitalism."

What a joke. You think you and your rich friends represent all there is to Capitalism?

Capitalism is as much about the little guy trying to get ahead as it is about you fat cats.

Bill   October 29th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

In my long career (I'm 70+), I've been devastated financially every time a Republican president is in office; twice I had to file for bankruptcy. The GOP consistently ignores the GREED factor. "Trickle down"? How many New England companies, started by hard-working industrialists, were ruined by new owners squandering the income on luxuries rather than putting it back into the company for new equipment? And don't pull out that "Atlas Shrugged" crap; yeah, I've read it – pure fiction that got poor reviews. Just more GOP lies, distortions, half-truths; Jeb, move to Alaska.

Jeb might be right if he is talking about President Obama standing up to the rogues at Halburton (sp) and on Wall Street who have stolen from the American people. Where was he when his brother's administration ran the economy down? One thing is sure: Jeb has presidential ambitions and he is trying to test the waters. Wrong way to begin, sir!

Charlotte, NC   October 29th, 2009 5:42 pm ET

Oh, NO, the Bush family is planning to offer Jeb for president!!!!

Jeb needs some education, however. The economy, or capitalism is driven by the middle class–that W devastated by giving tax cuts and loopholes to the rich. When the middle class has money to buy a house, a car, a refrigerator, or go out to eat–this is what drives the economy. What Obama is doing is bolstering the middle class and helping the economy that Brother ruined.

So, Jeb really needs to shut up. PLease, no more Bushes!!

Stu   October 29th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Capitalism may have its problems. Socialism is worse. Those who support socialism or communism are blind and don't realize you still have 90% of the wealth held by the upper 5% of people. The difference is that with capitalism, people are motivated to try to improve their lives. Socialism and communism breed laziness, inefficiency, poor quality, no invention/innovation, etc. And John, FDR may be credited with winning WWII and pulling the US out of a depression, but remember that he also enacted the first socialist program, social security, which is now a self-serving bloated mess. He also entered the war against Germany when they never attacked us. And his economic policy towards Japan is what prompted them to attack us first. And Obama was a member of "New Party" (affiliated with the Socialist Party of America)...he ran under a now-banned practice called "fusion" in which he ran both as democrat and new party candidate and combined the votes from both.

tonyt   October 29th, 2009 5:33 pm ET

If Capitalism = lowest wages, highest interest rates, zero job security, absent health care or insurance, illogical wars against unseen enemies with non-existent money (initiated by Jeb's brother), highest incarceration & modern enslavement of the common folk - then by all means, let Obama attack Capitalism.

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   October 29th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

The real attack on capitalism is coming from the "victims" themselves.

Lies... dishonesty... greed... and more lies, dishonesty and greed.

Jed Merrill   October 29th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

I don't know if Jeb's comment will make much sense to those who have not been following the news, but for those who have, he is speaking the simple truth.

Obama attacked the Chamber of Commerce earlier this week!

He signed away business liberties as part of the G-20 treaty.

His shadow staff members, like Ron Bloom, claim the free market is a joke.

Obama is the worst enemy of a free market America has ever seen, in or out of the "bully pulpit."

J.P.   October 29th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Only fools could look at Obama's actions and come to a different conclusion.

Further, it's straight out of the great socialist Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four to trumpet one thing for the purpose of disguising the fact you're doing the exact opposite.

Has Obama announced a Czar of Economic Prosperity yet? If he does, remember you heard it here first... no wait, Orwell said it first.

True economic growth and prosperity begins 52 weeks from next Tuesday, when the wrecklessly-economically illiterate one-term Obama is FINALLY handed lame duck status.

Big Daddy   October 29th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Independent in NYC   October 29th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

This country was founded on a very basic principle.

"...by the people, for the people and of the people..."

Captialism can tank for all I care as long as the country and its people survive. As this is the only major captialistic economy on the planet I don't see the big deal if it dies.

I do see a big deal when health care, jus common humanity, is over run by captialist and the cure and/or prevention of human illness and inflection are now profit oriented ventures. That rethugs then try to tell me its for my own good.

John   October 29th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Destroying capitalism? By doing what, exactly? Did he do so by continuing the bailout of criminals on Wall Street that your brother began? I'll give you this much. He should have let the titans of capitalism fall flat on their posteriors, as that is where they were headed. Unfortunatley they'd have take the rest of us with them.

vic   October 29th, 2009 5:17 pm ET

What folks like Jeb Bush don't realize is that what we practice in this country is no longer capitalism, it is in essence Consumerism. We do not consume our "needs" rather, we feed our "wants" and we do it at any cost. For the last decaded that cost was unregulated credit. Added to the unregulated greed of a few in the financial industry, we all know were we are now. Capitalism in its true form is one of the best economic systems known to man but what it has become overtime in US, is nothing short of a road to disaster. Call it anti-capitalism, socialism, obamaism or whatever else you want, we need for the pendelum to swing back to the middle.

JT the Show Me State College Freshman   October 29th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Socialism: a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
Capitalism: an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp. as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.
Mr. Jeb Bush, I hope you know what the very defintion of Socialism is before you accuse him of trying to impliment Socialism completely. Personally, I do not mind a little bit of Wall Street Regulation; that will keep them at least more honest and fair to us taxpayers. What I know is that both Capitalism and Socialism used in only its' pure forms have been proven to fail. I think we need to evenly blend the two together, so we can have free rights, choice, and competition, but yet be fair and honest financialy. Besides, since we pratically bailed them out, should we have a say in how much they get paid? It only makes sense. I think that they could use a little bit of a pay reduction. That is just my opinion. CNN, please at least try to post this!

Robert in Texas   October 29th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

The biggest threat to capitalism is a complete lack of regulation. When greed overrides everything in an unregulated market, the system collapses, capitalism collapses. Sorry Jeb, not buying it.
