Clinton says it's time to move past the 2008 election.

(CNN) - One day after a new book revealed former President Bill Clinton's 2008 campaign trail outbursts may have prevented his wife from landing a spot on the Democratic ticket, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says it's time to move past last year's election.

"I'm very happy with the position that I have and I think Joe Biden's doing a great job as vice president, so I think we should move on from the campaign of 2008," Clinton told CNN's Jill Dougherty in Pakistan earlier Friday.

In excerpts released Thursday of David Plouffe's forthcoming book, the former Obama campaign manager writes he was surprised at how interested Obama was in picking Clinton for his running mate after the hard-fought Democratic primary race came to an end.

Ultimately, Plouffe writes, Obama ruled against Clinton in fear her husband may have proved to be "too big a complication."

"If I picked her, my concern is that there would be more than two of us in the relationship," Plouffe quotes Obama as saying.

The new book, titled The Audacity to Win, hits book stores November 3.

Obama must agree with you about moving past the 2008 election. In fact, he would like everyone to forget that whole campaign thing too! They keep bringing up these things he said in the campaign that he would do after the election and throwing them in his face. Get over it, huh? That was Candidate Obama, not President Obama.

Then why does our Sec of State keep playing politics by commenting on Pres Bush?

This woman is all class. No crying over spilt milk here. She does her job with high energy and focus, and she doesn't back down from anything or anyone. Not even a broken arm stopped her. I sure wish she would have been president, because this Republican would have voted for her.

KJL   October 30th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Secretary Clinton knows as well as anybody that people often don't remember things accurately, especially when it isn't in their best interest to do so. Plouffe is trying to sell books. Who cares what he says?

Grahame   October 30th, 2009 10:34 am ET

The impending arrival of David Plouffe's new book will be met with some anticipation. Strange to relate though, and just to remind you. Once a book is published then it very soon becomes yesterdays news. This also begs the question that now Sarah Palins book 'Going Rogue' has been released. What in Gods name can she do next to keep her image in front of the American people. I would suggest that there is very little, short of becoming a mass murderer, that she can accomplish. However, the fact that President Obama picked Joe Biden over Hillary Clinton should come as no surprise since Bill Clinton is want to shoot his opinions from the hip and although Hillary would have made a great VP, Joe Biden is just as tough and works quietly behind the scenes to make things happen. Therefore the way things have worked out is just fine with me.

Nan in Pa   October 30th, 2009 10:31 am ET

It's hard to "move past" it when the leaders of the democratic party forced the lesser qualified, inexperienced candidate on us even though the voters in the primary chose Hillary. She is the better leader, she is more qualified, she would be getting more done and I will continue to hope that Hillary Clinton will one day be our President.

MEMBER OF THE PARTY OF NO MARXISM   October 30th, 2009 10:29 am ET

As a conservative I never thought id be saying this, but it is too bad we didnt get Hillary instead of this radical leftist.

mercado   October 30th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Thank you Sec. State Clinton. These GOP and DNC people that hate Obama can't accept that the election is over. I know, Obama screwed up on some things, but so did Clinton, FDR, TR, and even Bush.

Island girl   October 30th, 2009 10:21 am ET

If we keep dwelling on the past we will never get anywhere and if there are obstacle courses in governance/administration we will also be stymied.

I admire Hillary for her spunk, intelligence, wit, etc., however her statement yesterday re Pakistan's inability to root out the enemy shows that this is diplomacy at best. She knows what is going on but her hands are tied. Simply put, they are their brothers' keepers.

Mark   October 30th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Yes, please, let's move on. Stop wasting out time with Hillary and let's concentrate on Afghanistan.

Willy Brown   October 30th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Yeah right. You know she's planning to unseat Barry in 2012.

Mike   October 30th, 2009 10:17 am ET

"Obama" was spelled incorrectly in the 3rd to last paragraph. Sorry. a J-school grad and English teacher has to say something. :)

I agree w/ Sec. Clinton.......She's doing a phenominal job as the top diplomat of America.......The Obama administration is made up of extraordianry leaders for such a time as this.......The President has very good judgement......
Obama 2012!!!!

Fair is Fair   October 30th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Oddly enough, I agree with Hillary.

I don't agree with her politically, but I will admit she's quite intelligent. So much so, she can see what an unmitigated disaster the current administration is.

Look for her to resign as SOS by the end of 2010. She'll challenge O-blah-blah for the 2012 nomination.

RealityKing   October 30th, 2009 10:04 am ET

The progressively liberal media rang the death bell on Hillarys presidency..., isn't it ironic.

joe m   October 30th, 2009 10:01 am ET

the secstate is right. move on. choices have been made and this is just so old news. this revelation is not something that really should surprise anyone. if the president did not seriously consider clinton and made sure she was on the short list, it would eventually emerge and that could have and may hurt history's assesment of him. when exprez clinton made his remarks, anyone would two neurons to rub together knew at that moment that his wife was an impossible choice. this book is just another way to cash in on the obama name. plouffe proably figures that the iron is still at least luke warm so might as well strike it now.

Ralph Kramden   October 30th, 2009 9:47 am ET

She lost because Barack rocks! Not because of Bill. Please! Everyone needs to understand that Barack is a great man. He is well educated and people need to get over that a black man could possibly be smarter than they are. If you would get off his back and quit pushing him to make decissions then you would see he is the greatest president in history. His morals and values would come shining through. Americal loves him and his family as they are the new Norman Rockwell painting of America.

Jeff from Earvolution   October 30th, 2009 9:46 am ET

She's right. The press' rehashing of these things eats up valuable air time and prevents in depth "reporting" on current issues.

Average guy in Kansas   October 30th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Why is it some people just can't move on down the road? Why is it the media validate those imbeciles who write moronic "tell all" books, and those readers among us who thirst for "friction" over non-issues? Don't we have enough legitimate issues to worry about as a country and society?

C'mon folks, let's stop being distracted by insignificant past stupidity and start paying attention to REAL issues instead of turning our focus to yet another dumb "tell all" book that won't even amount to the literary equivalent of a pimple on a gnat's butt.

ch   October 30th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Too bad she is not President but I am glad to have someone of her stature and intelligence serving as Sec. of State.

Sniffit   October 30th, 2009 9:43 am ET

Polite way of telling the reporter to stop asking stupid questions. You "news" media people gonna take the hint at some point?

me   October 30th, 2009 9:41 am ET

Past is past, now is now, future is out there. But we live the present, and to dwell-too much on past takes us backwards. We live now and have to deal with what is now to have it better in future. Past is for history, archaeology, to learn from mistakes, but to stick with "if" and "what if..." is not productive... unless you learn from past and do not repeat mistakes.
Hillary is very smart, intelligent woman. She is adapting so well. One of properties of high IQ is adaptability to situation.

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   October 30th, 2009 9:41 am ET

So Obozo was afraid he couldn't handle Bill. How the heck will he handle Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, Russia, China, etc.? We have a girlie-man as President.

clr   October 30th, 2009 9:40 am ET

I am amazed at how much Hillary has laid down and played dead. Sad... Sad... for women everywhere.

Zach K   October 30th, 2009 9:38 am ET

I'm just happy she loves doing her job. I'm so glad that Obama decided to keep his friends close, but keep his former rivals closer.

It's a smart, political move. She's done a very good job as Secretary of State.

SLM   October 30th, 2009 9:37 am ET

Joe Biden doing a great job is Hilarious!! What does he do besides stick his foot in his mouth?

phoenix86   October 30th, 2009 9:35 am ET

Too bad Mrs. Clinton has ended her political career by being the side-show for the Moron in Chief. Then again, she can always become Ambassador to Congo in the next new administration (soon to take office in 2012).

Bye bye Hillary...

George   October 30th, 2009 9:34 am ET

That is a good idea. Just thank God that Bush and Chenny are gone.
Time to move on an re-build America. She took an 8 year whoopin.
Time for good things to happen.

Sam Sixpack   October 30th, 2009 9:32 am ET

No way can we move past last year's election – unless we start holding Obama & Co. accountable.

Mark   October 30th, 2009 9:30 am ET

She's right! Let's move past it quickly. So we can boot Obama out of office. The sooner, the better.

bill   October 30th, 2009 9:25 am ET

I, like a lot of people, had a hard time liking Hillary Clinton. She always seemed a bit shrew, cold and holier than thou. But I, and I believe like a lot of people, now see her as a strong woman full of class, grace and undying strength of character with her ability to hold her head high and forge on during overwhelming challenges both personally and politically. I find her inspiring.

Torch   October 30th, 2009 9:24 am ET

I'm not one to praise Hillary, but she is right. It's time to move past the election. Time to quit campaining and own up to the issues that are before us. Now words have been easier than deeds for this administration, so we'll see what happens.

Dominican mama 4 Obama   October 30th, 2009 9:22 am ET

Hillary is a class act, something you RethugliKlans know nothing about.

Preston   October 30th, 2009 9:22 am ET

You spelled the president's name wrong in the third to last paragraph.

Just thought you should know...

uhav2bkiddinme   October 30th, 2009 9:17 am ET

I think Obama moved her into sec of state, and then has pretty much shut her down by relying on John Kerry and others to handle foreign affairs. This is one way to control and silence one of his foes. I hope it backfires and Hillary resigns, publicly bashing Obama's administration for the amateurs bufoons they are.

John D.   October 30th, 2009 9:15 am ET

Who cares what this old bag thinks. She is not even legally suppose to be holding the office she has been appointed too. So much for Obozos transparency and ethics. She was a sitting Senator and could not legally hold the title or position of Secratary of State until her term as Senator was complete. Of course, that's according to the Constitution that they seem intent on destroying.

A.B.   October 30th, 2009 9:14 am ET

It seems to me that Hilary Clinton wants to bury the hatchet and forget about the 2008 election. That's a good thing. But I hope that she is smart enough not run against President Obama again. That would be a collossal mistake. I think that Obama made the right decision in not selecting Hilary to be his VP running mate. Not only would her husband, Bill Clinton be a complication, but her inexperience and poor judgement would be another.

once upon a horse   October 30th, 2009 9:13 am ET

I have to agree with SOS Clinton on this topic.....it's beyond time to move past it. No one but what's left of some bitter PUMAs and right wingers that love to keep stuff stirred up on the left and center are the ones that are trying to keep this going. We need to work together as a country on solving our problems and end this bitter stupid division ASAP.

Scott, Tucson   October 30th, 2009 9:05 am ET

As a Republican I of course would have prefer seeing McCain in office but as for the democratic side of the ticket, I would much prefer having Hillary in the WH instead of that partying moron of a community organizer and his sidekick Joe that we got in there now. And I believe many in this nation is starting to feel the same way.

Sgt. USMC   October 30th, 2009 9:02 am ET

Smart move. Not that Pres. Clinton isn't one of the best President's we've ever had but it would have probably made it a difficult election for Pres. Obama. Now let's move on!

Tina   October 30th, 2009 9:00 am ET

I agree, it is time to move past 2008 and straight on to the election of 2012 so we can vote Obama out. A chance to fix the major mistake of the 2008 election.
