Washington (CNN) – Vice President Biden on Friday fired back at criticism from his predecessor, former Vice President Cheney, that President Obama is "dithering" over his decision about whether to send up to 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.
"I like Dick Cheney personally but I really don't care what Dick Cheney thinks and I'm not sure a lot of Americans do," Biden said in an exclusive interview with CNN. "Look at the policy they left us, look at the policy of neglect they left us in Afghanistan, look at the policy we inherited in terms of their foreign policy...I think the President is doing exactly what any president should do."
October has turned out to be the deadliest month of the war so far, and Biden said the president needs the appropriate time to get the strategy right. He said the situation on the ground has changed because the Taliban is "taking advantage of a chaotic election process that took place in Afghanistan."
Biden added, "Any thoughtful president should be sitting down saying, 'Okay what is the strategy we have to employ with these changed circumstances?' And then look at the tactic that will best accomplish that. The President has great faith in the military."
The difference between these two are that one has a brain, the other a big mouth.
Dickie and Georgie ignored a request from the military commanders for more troops for over 8 months. Now THAT'S dithering!
The Donald Rumsfeld ignored the military commanders when he was planning the invasion of Iraq – they said they needed 400,000 troops on the ground; Donnie said it'd be a cakewalk, lasting no more than 6 months and could do it all with far fewer troops and a bunch of fancy gizmos.
What else can you expect from the arrogant Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz Chicken Hawks?
President Obama did not serve in the military, but at least he has the good sense to listen to and respect our military. They, in turn, are grateful to have an intelligent, thoughtful man in the White House and no longer a bunch of doofuses who like to thump their chests and pretend they're hot stuff.
I also don't care what Dick Cheney thinks.
None of us cares what that disgraceful X-VP has to say after he lied to us for 8 years-and keeps on spreading his garbage. Mr. Biden-You are a VP that is well-respected and trusted! You and President Obama are doing a Great Job!
As a young man Dick Cheney was a right wing hawk who supported the War in Vietnam but received 5 draft deferments. When asked why he didn't fight in Vietnam he said he had "other priorities." Talk about hypocrisy.
Let Dick go round and get lost. Did he ever accomplish much during his term?? Now he's trying to talk alot when we hardly heard his voice for eight years. No one cares of what he's saying, he's a man of fear.
Amen, Mr. VP! Amen! I agree with you completely. Thank you for showing him how a VP should act!
I would take that as a complement coming from "Joe hoof in-mouth "Biden.
I AGREE with our VP Joe Biden, " but I really don't care what Dick Cheney thinks"
Cheney is history and should stay that way.
He did not help us in the last 8 years and needs to be quite in the next 8 years.
Biden calling Cheney irrelevant is like George W. Bush calling someone fiscally irresponsible. I wasn't sure Biden was still alive.
To be honest I agree with the vice-president...If the Republicans had actually used their brains and really thought of the consequences surrounding the idea of going to was "by the way which was not our war to fight plus not only one country but two" at the time when that trash Bush and Cheney were in office, the Democrats wouldn't have to clean up their crap that they left behind...Any repulican can argue that Obama isn't doing his job but.....WAIT ON IT..............WAIT ON IT.............STRATEGIZING (something republicans know nothing about) so that we can some day get out of those two hell holes we live in.
One more thing, I am a prior officer in the military I did deploy three times so I know the dangers of the war and it is NOTHING compared to how they make it seem from any General....It's just an excuse from the republicans and that's that.
