'I don't care what Dick Cheney thinks,' Biden says

Biden says he's not too interested in what Dick Cheney has to say.
Biden says he's not too interested in what Dick Cheney has to say.

Washington (CNN) – Vice President Biden on Friday fired back at criticism from his predecessor, former Vice President Cheney, that President Obama is "dithering" over his decision about whether to send up to 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

"I like Dick Cheney personally but I really don't care what Dick Cheney thinks and I'm not sure a lot of Americans do," Biden said in an exclusive interview with CNN. "Look at the policy they left us, look at the policy of neglect they left us in Afghanistan, look at the policy we inherited in terms of their foreign policy...I think the President is doing exactly what any president should do."

October has turned out to be the deadliest month of the war so far, and Biden said the president needs the appropriate time to get the strategy right. He said the situation on the ground has changed because the Taliban is "taking advantage of a chaotic election process that took place in Afghanistan."

Biden added, "Any thoughtful president should be sitting down saying, 'Okay what is the strategy we have to employ with these changed circumstances?' And then look at the tactic that will best accomplish that. The President has great faith in the military."

Hey CNN, I disagree with Biden and the administrations policies but he still is the Vice President. In short, I am highly disappointed you have allowed JP's comments to stand! I am a Christian first, American second and a conservative third and even I am offended by those remarks.

From Thomas Frank, Wall Street Journal Columnist – “Just as the financial crisis has created toxic assets and "zombie" financial institutions, so has it transformed conservatism into a movement of the living dead. Its partisans cling to a now-toxic portfolio of discredited notions, rhetoric, gestures and strategies. They lumber comically on, their only goal being to obstruct efforts..."

i dont see too much intelligene from Biden either... doesn't matter republican or liberal – VPs seem to be wimps...

as to Biden's statement about inheriting policies – i pitty the fool that will have to inherit obama's mess. As if they have something concrete to offer except self serving nonsesne and patting eachother on the back about how fair, liberal, and global they are –

The problem with liberals is that htey are only liberal when it suits them – but if they are criticized they become like children and throw a tantrum

Bush and Cheney got us into these horrible messes, were incompetent in implementing and lied to us for their own personal wants and gains.
How can anyone give any creditibility to anything Cheney says?
He and Bush will go down in history as the worst leaders in the
history of our country, almost destroying us in the process.

Fussy boys playing with very dangerous toys. At least Biden has a son in the military. Hope that makes him see the war in Iraq and Afganistan from a different angle.

But sir, i think you should care what he thinks and says. He has a great deal of appeal with a group of uneducated, uncivilized types that are convinced he is one their side (truth being he would leave them to die if that struck his fancy). These people act as mob, and mobs are just as dangerous as they are stupid.

Pay very close attention to what this maniac says and does.

    To J.P.

No one is crying, sir. We must remind America everyday if needed about the Bush Disaster.

You comment is a prefect example of GOP hate. Why can you far-right-folks, have an intelligent discussion without resorting to sarcasm, name calling or hate?

Americans CHOSE President Obama, we chose well.

As a Canadian observer & a liberal it pains me to see how the Democrats are allowing these square headed Republican types such as Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity & such to keep running their mouths & spewing anti-american rhetoric about your administration. These stiffs are pseudo journalists at best with virtually no credentials to have an opinion on anything.

In regard to Cheney & Bush we went through this same crap in the late 80's & early 90's with Brian Mulroney & we did the same thing you folks did which was kick them out of office in 93 & like Bush-Cheney he single handedly destroyed his party & it took them 15 years to bounce back. As far as that arrogant, war mongering draft dodger Cheney is concerned don't waste your time worrying about him because he'll never attain higher office again so his opinion means squat. BTW here is a quick way to shut him up – make a quick call to the Hague, I guarantee that will shut him up real quick.

The news media gives attention to Mr. Cheney and his views. according to the Constitution he has a right to his opinion. My objection is that he does not take any responsibility for the mistakes made in the past.

President Bush did declare the fighting was over in Iraq and we still have troops there. Under President Bush troops were pulled form Afghanistan and sent to Iraq. The result is Afghanistan never had a peaceful resolution to its problems. I am not sure they ever will but pulling troops from Afghanistan only intensified the problems there.

What are we really doing for all of these people if they do not have any peaceful days to look forward to.

We all have the freedom to say or write whatever we wish. We can even exaggerate the truth here in the USA. We can put our own spin on stories which we then offer as the truth. As I read the comments day after day I remind myself that people are using their right to free speech even when they do use name-calling, etc.

OK, let's be civilized and compare the two men of the story:

V.P. Biden: 36 years as senator from Delaware, with Chairmanships of the Senate Judiary Committee and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. He has a Juris Doctor from Syracuse (the equivalent of a Ph.D.) He asked for, and got five student deferments during Vietnam, but was then reclassified as not available due to asthma.

V.P. Cheney: 10 years as a member of the House of Representatives from Wyoming. 2 years as Chief of Staff for Gerald Ford. 4 years as Secretary of Defense for President GHW Bush. 4 years as Vice President. He applied for and got 5 deferments from Vietnam - when asked during his questioning for Secretary of Defense, he simply said he had other priorities. He initially flunked out of Yale, but went on to get a Bachelors Degree and Master's degree.

OK, both men have fairly decent backgrounds; both have personal flaws in their past (Biden's plagerism charges which were dropped, Cheney with his DWI). Both took deferments rather than be drafted for Vietnam. Overall, Biden has many more years in government service, but we know that doesn't necessarily mean much.

So, please, let's stop calling either of them stupid. Neither is stupid. Neither is the brightest bulb in the candelier, either, but both are pretty bright. Who you happen to like or trust or admire or hate more is due to your own interpretations of their activities in the government. Both have made mistakes, both have had verbal flubs. Cheney DID shoot one of his friends, but we all decided to agree that that was an accident.

Can we now look at the men involved and use logic and facts rather than name calling?

I do not care what Chaney has to say either. He and bush are the reason this war is still going on.

Chaney makes a speech in a safe environment were there are no questions asked of him.

CNN stop giving him any more time. Please

Bush and Cheney nearly bankrupted America in those eight years of idiotic carefree leadership. They bankrolled two horrendously expensive wars, they scattered the cultures of two countries all over the universe. During their childish attempts to lead they put America's universal popularity at an all-time low.... and due to their idiotic arrogance, American citizens will be paying a huge price for many years to come.

Obama and his team inherited a catastrophic mess. Due to the ridiculous arragance of Bush and Cheney, America may spend decades to repair the damage that his childish predecessors created.

On the world stage, there is such a thing as crime against humanity... in America there should be a similar connotation – crimes against Americans. These two would never see daylight again.

As a Canadian citizen I can't believe how stupid people can be. I have been to Afghanistan 12 times as part of a U.N support mission. They could not care less about the American way of life or democracy. It's a tribal society, poor and illiterate. The Soviets had to leave after 10 years of invasion, even with all their military might. The paradox is that this is a war we can't win and we need to win. The danger is too big. The Taliban is too strong in Pakistan and htey have the nukes. Instead of talking and talking about Busch's legacy America and the world have to face this major danger of a worlwide conflagration. I don't care about the past. Let's face the future. Obama and the world must make a quick decision to put a stop to the Taliban influence in Pakistan and destroy their bases in the mountains.
