WASHINGTON (CNNMoney.com) – The largest stimulus program in the nation's history has created or saved at least 650,000 state and local jobs, according to a report released by the Obama administration on Friday.

Based on approximately $150 billion in spending from the $787 billion recovery package, the tally is the first broad, concrete look at the stimulus program's impact on the economy. The numbers are drawn from tens of thousands of reports from state and local recipients as well as private companies.

The White House said the actual number of jobs created so far is likely closer to 1 million, since its report on stimulus job creation only focused on $150 billion of the $339 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds spent so far.

How about the story where stimulus went to a company that saved 250 jobs...because the owner had to give them raises or they would find new jobs. Don't we want NEW jobs? How does help the economy. Obama is a fraud. You lefites just lap lap it up.

Loup Garou 782   October 30th, 2009 10:52 am ET

"Stimulus created or saved 650,000 jobs"
That from an administration at the White House that, if they are talking or writing they are lying.

Ohio Man   October 30th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Yes... What a lot of people don't understand is that the Stimulus was like a $787 billion dollar credit limit.. nothing different than some1 having a credit card with a 1,000 limit... and only used 250 of it to take care of things ... we have not even used half that money yet and things are turning around .. and then with the banks paying back there money we are just re-allocating that money to other things, but so many people don't understand that.... the way things are going we may not even have to use most of that money that was approved...

Caesar the Great   October 30th, 2009 10:50 am ET

When we get INDEPENDENT numbers that I will care. Until then this is nothing more than politics.

How many more lies do we have to endure.

Four and The Door   October 30th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Even using their own data this says each job only cost $230,770.00
What a sweet deal! Can we do this again?

Ken   October 30th, 2009 10:36 am ET

The more jobs "saved or created" by this ponzi scheme, the higher unemployment goes, the greater our unmanagable spending driven debt goes, and the worse future prospects are for our children. Welcome to the third world.

Mark   October 30th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Are those numbers from the same report that AP found to be full of mistakes/lies?

The Party of No More   October 30th, 2009 10:26 am ET

So, even if one uses the administration's numbers, that comes to $150,000 per job?

How do I get one of those? Or do you have to be a democrat ? After all, seeing who is getting those jobs, it seems to be a fair inference.

barbara   October 30th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Show me written proof that this many jobs were created or that this many jobs were saved. But wait. how does someone prove that a person was going to be fired or laid off but the stimulus money saved their job. Its very easy for an employer to say that someone WAS going to be fired and we wouldnt know if that were true or not cause it cant be proven. we have to trust the employer when he says that someone WAS going to be fired? No, Im not biting. Show me written proof, swear on the Bible if need be but dont just TELL me and expect me to believe it especially when I can not see it.

Matt   October 30th, 2009 10:24 am ET

I hope Americans realize that these numbers are complete fiction. When a company receives stimulus money for work performed, they are required to fill out forms that list the number of jobs created and the number of jobs saved with the money. Obviously, companies can only guess at the number of jobs, and they write a large number so the government gives them more business moving forward.

The forms are a gimmick that the government put in place to sell the stimulus package to the American people, with the hope that the people wouldn't learn how ridiculous the numbers actually are.

Gene   October 30th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Where are all of those jobs again? I can't find them. I'm in Michigan.

Congratulations to the other 49 states. YOUR recession is over according to the GDP.

If there are so many jobs, how come the Army had no problem meeting recruiting goals with 2 wars going on?

joe m   October 30th, 2009 10:08 am ET

a major concern about the numbers that the administration reports on this matter is that it is supposedly a measure of 'jobs created or saved'. it is easy to measure jobs created, but it is a little more slippery to be certain about the numbers of jobs saved. i seems to be nothing more than a matter os symantics to make the claim of 'jobs created or saved'. it is unfortunate since the president and administration gave critics a 'gift' by setting this criteria.

RealityKing   October 30th, 2009 10:07 am ET

Bren   October 30th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Both USA Today and Fox had articles saying that there were MANY problems/mistakes in regard to this claim that 650,000 jobs were created.

In other words, there were NOT really 650,000 jobs created-–and that the mistakes were pointed out-–and a new report was supposed to be released with the "correct" number of jobs created.

Rob   October 30th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Suuurrree it did. Thank goodness nobody in the Obumbles administration isn't a magical wooden puppet, or else we'd have to get some bull explanation of why their nose keeps growing. The truth will come out, and the "jobs" created by this will be far below what they are now claiming.

Bev   October 30th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Where is the article about all of the lies that were discovered, regarding these so called "jobs" that were created??

For example--bathrooms being remodeled with this money, jobs that only lasted 1-2 days, etc.---and people giving this information saying--"I'm sorry we made a mistake, and reported this informaiton incorrectly".

The bottom line..........There was NOT 650,000 jobs created--and these "mistakes" were supposed to be cleared up and a new report released.

Jobless Recovery   October 30th, 2009 9:58 am ET

It's false...but even if it's true, that's 230,000 per job! How is that a productive way to spend money?
The premise is false anyway...but the results they are bragging about stink as well!

clr   October 30th, 2009 9:47 am ET

So... they are telling us it cost the tax payers $230,769 ($1.5B divided by their 650K of jobs) to create EACH job????!!!!! Even if you believed their bunk...what the heck kind of jobs were we creating at that kind of cost?????? It would have been cheaper to just hand the dough out to small businesses and said – hey – go hire yourselves about 3 – 4 people – here is enough money to pay them for a year!

It is bunk though – have you seen how they come up with these numbers of jobs created (or "saved")... It is a complete swag count provided by the group that gets the bucks... No validation that it actually is accurate, and all projects tracked MUST show jobs "created" to get the money, so the contractors will show on the books that jobs were new hires, even if they are just day labor, etc.

Henry Miller, Libertarian   October 30th, 2009 9:46 am ET

I'm looking forward to hearing the real numbers, the ones Obama's people haven't spun, inflated, and/or simply invented. My guess is that the real number is actually fairly close to zero.

machtim akannah   October 30th, 2009 9:46 am ET

We added 650,000 jobs, but how many did we lose? The stimulus package was supposed to create and / or save 3MM plus jobs. The bottom line is – what is the NET job growth? No spin. The only job increases apparently are in Washington with the growth of bureaucracy and their staff. The CZARS are included in the 650,000 number, I presume.

Every Recovery Act job I;ve ever seen is for those with Masters and PHd's, or upper level management. All seem to be at the GS 12 level and up. How are those of us with Bachelor degrees, diplomas, etc, supposed to find these jobs. Are we doomed to shovel asphalt on the highway and not work elsewhere?

phoenix86   October 30th, 2009 9:40 am ET

That comes to $230,769.23 per job.

Obamanomics is truely twisted.

SLM   October 30th, 2009 9:40 am ET

What a joke!! Like the report of 129 new jobs created at a day care center, when in reality the money was used to "enhance" the compensation of the 129 current employees...............yeah, that's stimulus. No new jobs, just bonuses compliments our tax dollars! Great job Obama. We cannot expect the truth out of him, he has lied from day one and will continue to do so.

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   October 30th, 2009 9:38 am ET

There is no way to prove you 'saved' a job. The only statistic that counts is the unemployment stats. The fact is that we LOST 3 million jobs since Obozo took office. Sionce he promised to create 3.5 million jobs he's now 6.5 million short of what he promised. Way to go Obamatrons; you've elected an empty suit.

phoenix86   October 30th, 2009 9:37 am ET

Assuming that this bogus number is correct (very unlikely, but let's play the Obama fudge and nudge game).

Jobs created by stimulus: 650,000
Jobs lost by Obama: 2,500,000

Net job loss due to Obama's Death to Capitalism Policy: 2 million.

By the time Obama is through, there won't even be change to hope for.

Mark   October 30th, 2009 9:32 am ET

The Obama admin cannot see the bigger picture. They are costing jobs!

Bluebonnet   October 30th, 2009 9:32 am ET

This is absolute bull!!! There is no way in 'ell they can justify that claim. How could anyone know whether or not a job was "saved"? The stimulus (that our great grandchildren will be paying for) has admittedly help somewhat. BUT, as the bulk of the stimulus money has not even entered the "system" yet, how on earth can the administration claim such bunk? Another lie crammed down our throats!

mjm   October 30th, 2009 9:31 am ET

Wow....really? 650,000! Maybe even a MILLION! Created OR saved!

I hear it's actually closer to a gazillion. I mean as long as we're making up numbers, let's say it created or saved a million bazillion.

They couldn't even create 30000 jobs. They had to lie about that pathetic number. Now they want us to believe they "saved" 1 million?

Well, if they are counting government jobs and teacher jobs then we have a HUGE problem. Those jobs will have to be "saved" next year as well.
The government DOES NOT CREATE JOBS.

Chris M.   October 30th, 2009 9:29 am ET

Well, I don't think that adding Government jobs count...
What about the millions of jobs that were SUPPOSED to be saved by the Trillions spent?

John D.   October 30th, 2009 9:25 am ET

What a crock of BULL. The stimulus plan was the greatest theft of all times and Obama was the ring leader of the crooks. Where have the jobs been created? 16,000 were suppose to be here in NH but that never happened. The only one hiring that I know of is the Government as they prepare for the even bigger ponzi scheme they are trying to call HEALTHCARE REFORM. They should all be in jail with Madoff. Open your eyes America and look at history. The Federal Government cannot competently run anything without an overcost of trillions due to waste and fraud and just down right ignorance. "Oh but they meant well" just does not cut it as a response with the taxes we are going to end up paying.

CJL   October 30th, 2009 9:23 am ET

First off, has anyone looked into how the government calculates how many jobs they've generated. Its pretty funny. Its all based on how many jobs 'should have been' calculated per dollar spent, but in no way connects to actual jobs that are as a result of government spend. Its purely hypothetical (fact).
Second off, wasn't it supposed to be 4 million jobs in year 1?
Third – private sector jobs are the only jobs that are truly healthy for our long term economy. Shouldn't the government be just asking private business what they need and getting out of their way. That would seem logical.

uhav2bkiddinme   October 30th, 2009 9:13 am ET

How can you even think you can really come up with a number on this. So to say the stimulus "saved" a job? Which ones would that be exactly? There is no way you can look at a huge economy with millions of jobs and now a record high unemployment rate hitting around 10% and say you are saving jobs when you can't prove any of it. Really you can't. I supported the stimulus...but quit the lies, please we are not idiots, and we know when we have been had.

John   October 30th, 2009 9:12 am ET

have you been near an unemployment line lately?!!!

it doesn't matter how you spin this..... unemployment is rising and is now nearing the 10% mark..... the largest in 26 some years...

mark   October 30th, 2009 9:10 am ET

remember the time Obama was in Columbus, Ohio at the graduation ceremony of the Columbus Police Department with the 25 new officers that were not cut because of Stimulus money? They got cut soon after because the city still did not have enough money. Guarantee they are within that count. Wonder how many other situations like this are counted....

Gus   October 30th, 2009 9:10 am ET

The brilliance of Obama was in adding the term "saved" which is impossible to determine and is left up to the politicians to manufacture.

good start   October 30th, 2009 9:09 am ET

The calculation of 150 billion for 650,000 jobs is misleading because of the likely knock-on effects. Better to look at e.g. Maryland where further details are available – in this case 14,000 jobs are claimed from $225,000, or $16 per job.

Scott, Tucson   October 30th, 2009 9:09 am ET

obummer, 1 and done   October 30th, 2009 8:55 am ET

wonder what the net job gain or loss was during this stimulus?

Let's see, unemployment up close to 3%, (about 2.3 million jobs lost), and he saved 650,000 tax supported jobs that will require another stimulus to keep.

I don't see this as very positive. A net loss of jobs of 1.7 million.

I guess you can spin things any way you want to and some people will enthusiastically drink the koolaid.

Oh yeah, it's Bush's fault. He did promise unemployment would not go above 8% if the porkulus package got passed. (Sorry, that was obummer)

Were the people that made up this report former Enron employees? What a farce!!!

Yes, but what about all those jobs that have been lost and not recovered since the stimulus was enacted? Within the last week, one small town in Virginia has lost its major employer, International Paper Company. About 1,100 people lost their jobs and basically the town of Franklin will fold. Everyone in that small town depend on the tax revenue and other economic contributions that were generated by IP. Give us a break, prez.....it is only getting worse for us regular folks!
