Biden stumped for Owens Monday.
Biden stumped for Owens Monday.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden challenged Republican voters in New York's 23rd congressional district to teach conservative "absolutists" a lesson in the special House election Tuesday by voting for the Democratic candidate in the race.

"We aren't asking you to switch your party," Biden said at a rally for Democrat Bill Owens in Watertown, New York Monday morning. "We are just saying join us in teaching a lesson to those absolutists who say no dissent is permitted within your own party."

The comments come a day after Republican Dede Scozzafava, who withdrew from the race Saturday amid heavy pressure from conservatives - endorsed Owens. Many high-profile Republicans, including Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Dick Armey, have already thrown their own support behind third-party conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

Related: Scozzafava campaigns for Owens

In his remarks at the rally for Owens, Biden elicited boos from the crowd when he mentioned Palin, Limbaugh and Armey.

"The idea that Rush Limbaugh would handpick [the] successor is kind of unusual," Biden said of the popular conservative radio host who has heavily backed Hoffman over the national party's choice of Scozzafava.

"I would have thought the last person I would bring up to the North Country is Dick Armey," Biden continued, pointing to the former Texas congressman and current chairman of the conservative group FreedomWorks. "He's a decent guy, but he represents a view so alien it seems to me to the pragmatism to the North Country. Sarah Palin, a former governor - her views are real and consistent with Armey's and Limbaugh's and Dick Cheney's."

"This is a different ideology," Biden continued. "This is different than anything I've known in my 45 years of being familiar with this district. You know, they may not have any room for moderate views in the Republican Party upstate anymore, but let me assure you, we have room, we have room."

Later in his remarks, the vice president couldn't help but return to the subject of the former Alaska governor when the issue of energy came up.

"Sarah Palin thinks the answer to energy is 'Drill, baby, drill,' he said, leaning into the microphone. "It's a lot more complicated, Sarah, than drill baby drill."

A just-released Siena College poll suggests Hoffman holds a 5-point lead over Owens, while 18 percent of likely remain undecided.

Update:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fired back at Biden Monday. "As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence," Palin wrote in a note on her Facebook page. "There's one way to tell Vice President Biden that we're tired of folks in Washington distorting our message and hampering our nation's progress: Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman!."

www.firedoglake.com   November 2nd, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Vice President Biden's calling on Republicans to teach their party a lesson by switching parties, is he?

Well, how should we, the true base of the Democratic Party, teach the weak leaders of the Democratic Party a lesson?

I mean, will having another Democrat in the House really change the fact that, as of now, Speaker Pelosi is bringing a weak health care reform bill to the House floor and that Majority Leader Reid is bringing an even weaker one to the Senate floor.

Seriously, what more can we do than give you ineffective and failed leaders control over the White House and large majorities in the House and Senate?

Start acting like Democrats, or we'll be teaching you a lesson.

al   November 2nd, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Let's see. We have Palin, dumb as a bag of manure. Limbaugh, a worthless drug addict, Pelosi, no smarter than Palin, Reed, a worthless no nothing who would sell his own mother, Armey, another crook in the same vein as Cheney, exPresident Bush, a liar, and Obama, a guy with socialist tendencies.

Is this why I distrust politicians so much and why I refuse to ally myself with the Democrats or the Republicans?

John L.   November 2nd, 2009 4:17 pm ET

The media has finally picked up on the inevitable civil war brewing in my own Republican Party. Us moderate Republicans have been waiting for this moment, and we will purge our party of the crazy radical anti-government forces which poisons its ideology. We must not even concern ourselves with federal elections until we rid our party of these evils. NO more Palin, NO more Rush, No more Beck, save conservatism from these idiots who destroy it.

Amanda   November 2nd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

republicans = rich, arrogant ; not your friend and got us into this stupid mess in the first place... No, "drill baby drill" is not the answer to our problems. Geesh, American people have become so addicted to oil it is disgusting and just like an addict we think a quick fix is all need to feel a little bit better. The truth of the matter is we as a society have become lazy (hence why we are one of the fastest countries) and have forgotten everything we stood for and what set us apart. Now we are becoming a poor, fat, lazy country and this is one reason our economy collapsed. It was no ones fault but our own. We will never fix our world if we can not come together as a society.

Malik   November 2nd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

A large undecided vote right now usually means low turn out so what does it really mean if a conservative wins a Republican district that has been the same for 100 years, Nothing.

If New Jersey goes to a Republican that says something

Virginia well that says something too but not as much. If the Republicans
want to even approach a Majority in the house they will need an alternative.

they have already blown it on Healthcare

they could have gotten medical malpractice, Insurance over state lines, coops

but they won't come to the table

Beverly in NC   November 2nd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Republicans have betrayed Americans. They have voted NO on every piece of legislation to restore our country or help struggling Americans. They have told endless lies, spread fear and hate, and refused to denounce racism and violence from their fanatical followers.

Why would any American believe or trust any Republican? They serve the rich and the corporations – not the People who were misled into voting for them.

When are they going to realize that every time Palin, Cheney, DeMint, Boehner, McConnell, Pawlenty, and Romney open their mouths against America and disrespectfully against President Obama they have turned even more of the country against them?

Catty   November 2nd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

That's rich. Aparently dissension is ok, as long as you are not disenting from the liberal agenda...thank it's OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!

Jack   November 2nd, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Joe Biden is a good partner for Obama and a bright and independent voice as Vice-President. History will show his many contributions to this nations well being. We need more straight talking politicians like Joe.

Why waste you breath on people who are not capable of learning anything. Just like Palin once and idiot always an idiot.
Republicans only know one word "NO" and are just a bit, more moral.
What a joke, the whole bunch of them.

Mike   November 2nd, 2009 4:10 pm ET

This election was being talked about by Limbaugh today. He tried to make us believe that these current neo fascists running the GOP were representative of Reaganism. What a load of dung. This fifty year old Republican remembers Reagan well. Ronald Reagan was inclusive and positive. He was never a liar and intolerant like the GOP has degenerated down to.

Obama Victim   November 2nd, 2009 4:10 pm ET

I wonder how it feels to be so stupid you support Joe Biden??

I can't imagine

You betcha   November 2nd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Doesn't Joe have a job to do? He was elected VP. But instead he and Obama are out stumping for Democrats. Is this what we have become? While the country falls apart ( Oh Yea, Blame Bush again ) our President and VP are out campaigning??????

This is bull, Joe, get your arse back to Washington and do your job, and take the community organizer with you.

You can hate Sarah, Rush and anyone else you want. But at least they do not take away from the job they have. Sarah at least had the balls to step down, take up her cause, whether you believe it or not, and do her thing. Biden and Obama instead fly around campaigning because all they can see is POWER.
The Afghan election is over, when is Obama goign to make a decision on troops. Instead of worrying about party politics?

Robin   November 2nd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Dirty politics as usual. You can't win them with brillance so start the mud slinging? So far all the Obama administration has done since it began is worry about the next election. Why don't they start focusing on fixing the economy and start creating new jobs.

Scott   November 2nd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Will all the conservatives please move into existing republican states and just hatemonger to the choir? I think its offensive that this poor lady was in the lead but since she wasn't socially right enough they nuked her. If you're a TX hatemonger than stay in TX and hatemonger there. There are plently of lousy immigrants, gays and welfare people to lynch down there without having to come up and tie Dede from the nearest tall tree branch. What a lousy country we live in. I'm newly embarassed every day to be an American.

Dumb Republicans   November 2nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Why do you constantly believe in your Lord and Savior Rush Limbaugh? Only a dumb republican or conservative would put so much faith in Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Glen Beck, all college dropouts!!! Then again most conservative aren't that sharp, so why am high when you can look up to people who are such Human Trash!!

cg   November 2nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

He's dead on. However much I may disagree with them on the issues, the republican party used to be about business and cutting taxes. Now it's allowing its own party to be hijacked by people trying to dictate social policies for everyone, claiming their god is the only god, women should stay barefoot and pregnant, gay people should be beaten up, etc., and if you disagree, you'd better change party.

odumber, 1 and a half year old maturity level...   November 2nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

What do you mean Biden? We have to pick one of two parties and stick with it no matter what! We can't be expected to think for ourselves, the good people at Fox News do it for us. Now after I got my anxiety medication I can listen to Rush again without worry of another heart attack.

Let's get one thing straight: America is an extreme right country with no room for any liberal ideas, like socialized police or firemen. Those stalinists may be heroes to the libertards, but not us true americans who see through their socialistic communist adgendas.

Wake up America, we're all christians and we allare against Obama! Even though more than half our country voted for him, they weren't real Americans they don't count...

Mike Mundy, Houston, TX   November 2nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Joe Biden only wishes he looked as good as Sarah Palin. If there was ever a term to describe Biden, it would be "Dork".

seebofubar   November 2nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Biden is the Democrat hammer. The one that seals the coffins of democrat candidates. And by the way Joe, I'm no Palin fan, and she is no genious, but she forgot more this morning than you have learned in your lifetime.

cgillette369   November 2nd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

When will CNN see fit to expose Joe Biden, Jr as a mental midget and FIVE time draft dodger in Vietnam?

Biden finished 76 of 85 at law school after crying and begging not to be expelled when caught cheating.

What is the name of the man that dies in Vietnam taking Joe Biden's place?

Joe Biden has an IQ of 90. His medical history shows two barin surgeries. Joe Biden, Sr the father evaded military service as a draft dodger in WWII.

greg   November 2nd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

You failed to report that Biden's "crowd" was about 200 plus 50 media people. 0bama has invested heavily in NY23, NJ, and VA, and it looks like he might lose all 3. That will not give the dems much confidence when it comes to supporting all his loony left agenda, remember 2010 is an election year. It took Palin's endorsement to bring on all the other big endorsements, and he is now leading in the polls, 0bama is going to look like the clown he is after Tuesday.

Jethro   November 2nd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Yea, right, I'm going to follow BOZO's advise about voting. Democrats have their idealogies, we (conservatives) have our. Nice try BOZO.

ghostwriter   November 2nd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Not a bad plan there Joey. Put a nice wedge into the republican party. Well, they did do that themselves. All this talk of Rinos and what not is very telling. For republicans, there is only one view. My question is who controls that view? We can at least say right now that democrats aren't all following the beat of one drum, especially on health care.

OA   November 2nd, 2009 4:04 pm ET

There is no difference in idealogy between Limbaugh, Palin, Army, Cheney and their Christian minority, on the one hand, and Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda on the other. They are both fanatical groups that use anything and anyone to advance their own illogical, racist and self-serving agendas. They are all pure evil.

jrzshor   November 2nd, 2009 4:03 pm ET

"We are just saying join us in teaching a lesson to those absolutists who say no dissent is permitted within your own party."

coming from the obama admin, it is rather funny/ironic. given their silly war on fox news for its dissenting views.

Norm   November 2nd, 2009 4:01 pm ET

It's not Republicans against Democrats anymore. The new racism is libs vs cons and it's tearing this country apart. Both sides need to grow up and think of our country as a whole entity instead of being selfish dividers on every issue. Let's also try to keep the "entertainers" out of politics if we can. They could care less about the country as long as they make their money.

Reformed Republican   November 2nd, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Has anybody taken the time to listen to this guy Hoffman talk?

He's a moron – and a milk-toast to boot! Makes Reid look like The Hulk.

How can any self-respecting rethug, teabagger or conservative ever vote for him?

He's an intellectual and physical appearance disgrace to politicians of every party everywhere in the country for god's sake...

New Age Independent   November 2nd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Is this all the Democrats have nowadays? Name calling at some Republicans? This is one of the main reasons I left the party. It's the same old garbage, no new ideas, just tax and spend into oblivion. No ethics, transparency, etc.

Biden is a buffoon   November 2nd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Biden lost it way back when he told the lie that his first wife was killed by a drunk driver when the truth was that his idiot wife caused the accident that also killed her daughter. He had no qualms about slandering the innocent man that was badly injured by the woman's carelessness for his own political gain. The man is evil and disgusting.

Pappy   November 2nd, 2009 3:56 pm ET

No more Mr. nice guy, it's about time someone in the Democratic party slaps it right back in the faces of the Repug buffoons. Go Joe, give it to them hard and don't let up.

Reny   November 2nd, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Palin is a loser. I hope she runs in 2012. I'm going to love seeing her party shred her during the primaries and Obama shred her if the repubs are dumb enough to nominate her.

omahacliff   November 2nd, 2009 3:54 pm ET

I applaud the right wing neocons who continue everyday to kill their own party by refusing to support moderate republicans. They keep getting further and further to the right, while intelligent, middle of the road republicans switch over to the only party that uses common sense and looks for true bipartisian ship. It makes our job as democrats easier. Come on New York, join the movement!!

Biased   November 2nd, 2009 3:54 pm ET

How amusing and hypocritical for Biden giving moral lessons to the republicans. Maybe he just loves the fact that many of the most liberal blogs are trying to encourage candidates to get in and run against blue dogs because they aren't "liberal enough". But then, I keep forgetting that whatever democrats do is fine and dandy. I guess you can never be too liberal for the democrats and if not, then beware, because you will feel the wrath as well when it is your turn for re-election.

Bjorn   November 2nd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I grew up in this district. Being told who their candidate was from on high wouldn't go down well with the Republican rank-and-file. And you need to look at how the district votes. McHugh (Republican) won with 60% of the vote. That indicates that the Democrats did well; he often won with a good bit more than that, especially when the Democrats ran liberal college professor types. It's not a case of conservatives trying to take over the district; it's a case of party leadership trying to tell the voters what's good for them.

Deb   November 2nd, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Explain to me how Hoffmanm can run in NY-23 when he doesn't kive in the district and could not answer questions about the district's issues when they were put to him? Regardless of party, wouldn't you want someone inoffice who understands the interests of the district he is representing?

DaveG   November 2nd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

This country is in need of repair, restraint and redesign after 30 years of Republican hogwash (i.e. Reagan's "trickle down economics", a.k.a. the rich pocket every last cent, outsourcing of US jobs – another Republican scheme bought and paid for by corporate America for the destruction of the middle class, which increased the labor pool and decimated hourly wages, cut taxes for the rich, which means we borrow the money instead and the rich create off shore bank accounts to avoid paying taxes on profits). WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THE RAPING AND PILLAGING OF AMERICA BY REPUBLICAN POLICIES.

Scott   November 2nd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

And the morons come out from under their rocks to take a stab at Obama. Go ahead, run Bible Spice against ANYONE and she'll lose. Morons.

Lee   November 2nd, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Joe Biden is a testiment to the American Dream; no matter how intellectually ungifted you are, there's always hope that someday, you too, can rise to be Vice-President of the greatest nation in the world.

Alan in Atlanta   November 2nd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

It's an unfortunate fact that politics and religion bring out the true evilness in people. And, hostile, hate-filled conservative repubicans are the worst.

Thier hypcritical actions and hate-filled rhetoric have become the trademark of an irrelevant, dying party.

Grrr-awful-o   November 2nd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Ok, all of you who wanted to follow the lead of Joe Biden, let's go! LOL!

AJ   November 2nd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Sure Tell Republicans to vote Democrat so they too can screw up America. The Democrats have shown America that Pelosi's Un Americans are her own party. Lies, Deceipt, and back stabbing!! Just look at Deeds from Virginia. WE THE PEOPLE are better than that.

Paula   November 2nd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

This election is being held to replace a Republican who stepped down. Though the Democrats would love to pick up another win, this is in no way a reflection on how the country thinks of President Obama. If I understand correctly this is a predominately Republican area. The fact that a Democratic candidate is only behind by 5 speaks volumes.

AXH   November 2nd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Get this whack-job out of here!
Biden is a joke!
Go ahead and let him keep talking...keep putting his foot in his big mouth!

Skiritae   November 2nd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Yep! This should be an interesting place by tomorrow evening!

Dems want to paint this as a lose-lose for Republicans, but it won't work. Conservatives (regardless of party) are about to demonstrate that they are now wise to all of the Obama-crap.

I can't wait to see what Axelrod's face looks like next Sunday on all the talk shows. Maybe he won't show up. Nah.... he can't help himself.

Ted Tartaglia   November 2nd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Good for Joe!

Rush Limbaugh and his cohorts, Sarah Palin, Dick Armey, Hannity, Beck, Boehner, McConnell and Gingrich, are the ones focused on harming the United States. These religious, right-wing fanatics care only about power and forcing their agenda on all Americans. In their perverted minds, they cannot accept the defeat handed them by the voters in the last election. They are in full denial of reality and are bordering on total delusion or perhaps some form of dementia.

People who slavishly adopt the ravings of Limbaugh and Boehner, because they cannot think for themselves, should consider abstaining from voting all together.

Our founding fathers may have had it right when they believed that a goodly percentage of the American public are not intelligent enough or are so badly misinformed that they should not be permitted to vote for their representatives.

OldUncleTom   November 2nd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Before this election, I did not know that NY-23 existed. By 2 weeks after the election, I expect to go back to my blissful ignorance of upstate NY politics. While entertaining, in its way, far too many people are reading far too much into this rural area's significance.

We have congressional districts like this in California also; we don't, however, pretend they matter.

Tex   November 2nd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Haha you GOPers are sad... I only offer my sympathy.

Eric in Cali   November 2nd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Conservatives are still the majority in this nation...and liberals think we're "crazy" because we want to protect unborn children from being murdered, defend marriage as it has been for...ohhhh..forever, and we don't think that pandering to truly evil dictators will make the world a safer place.
Call us backwards, religious fanatics and "abolutists". Most of the country just calls us right.
And most of the country is sorry we went so far left with President Obama.

Paul , St. Louis MO   November 2nd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Who are the 18% undecided? If these people were Republicans who were going to vote for the Republican where do they go now? The third party and conservative leaders have run the Republican out. Do these voters now reward them by voting for the Conservative Party or do they follow the lead of the Republican candiadate and vote for the Democrat who is closer to their isssues than the Conservative? 18% is a big undecide vote the day before an election.

J.A. Murphy   November 2nd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Joe Biden is NOT "stumping" for Hoffman the Putz!!

Terry from West Texas   November 2nd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

The Conservative opposition is not a loyal opposition. They oppose anything and everything the Administration does because they want the Administration to fail. This will hurt a lot of ordinary Americans, but non-Conservative collateral damage is quite acceptable to America's Conservative leadership. I hope that these close races go against the Conservatives. If they don't, the Conservative noise machine will crank up the volume to a deafening roar.

The goal of Conservatism is more wealth for wealthy Conservatives and more power for Conservative leaders. To Conservatives, the shrinking wealth and security of the middle class is insignificant. Losers always suffer – they reason – in the game of life. That's the law of the economic jungle. If the losers are kids or handicapped or pregnant women, then so be it. The lower class is not part of the Conservative calculation at all. They are garbage and can be ignored.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me hundreds of times over sixty years and I must be a Conservative voter.

JK from FL   November 2nd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

I can just imagine the thought process of a GOP'er in this district...."I'm a republican so I'm NOT going to support the candidate of my party, because I just love having people with common sense (read independent here) laugh at my intellect."

Bob in Sewanee, Tennessee   November 2nd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The Republicans are so far out on the limb that "W" Bush has sawed almost completely through for them that they may all fall off before the limb actually breaks. They should step back and examine how far out of step they have become. Thank you George and Sarah.

Neither Palin or Biden will decide–leave it up to the voters. If they want more right-wing Republicanism, they can vote it in.

Tom   November 2nd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Republicans will lose and lose until we (yes, I am a Republican) separate our own church and state.
Kick the Religious fundamentalists out of our party and put them back in the church where they belong.
Let the religious wackos, in any party, learn that fundamentalism isnt the way of the world.

Billy in VA   November 2nd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The Republican party apparatus is how Scazzafava was nominated in the first place. THERE WAS NO PRIMARY. How unfair is that? You want to give people options, which is why that other guy jumped into the race. If he hadn't, it would have been two Democrats or liberals running against each other. What kind of choice is that, and I mean if you're not a hardcore liberal or Democrat? If you are I am sure you think that the choices are just fine!!! Ha ha, which is what Biden was saying.

RickM   November 2nd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Joe Biden is lucky to draw a crowd of 200 people in NY 23. Sarah Palin on the other hand is drawing 15,000 – 20,000. The Veep may actually be hurting Owens by criticizing her.

The caption under the picture is right Biden really is stumping for Hoffman with remarks like that.

alpha_nu_916   November 2nd, 2009 3:40 pm ET

"patriots" like proud member . . . party of no & obama/biden=one & done, please god seemingly think that some ultra-conservative movement will sweep america.
americans, for the most part are moderates, & really detest both radical sides of the spectrum. for these closet neo-facists to think that this platform will win the day in the next couple of elections shows the depths of their insanity.

Biden has certainly proven why Palin would have been a far superior vice president. Go for it Joe, you are an incredible asset to the Republican Party

Tony   November 2nd, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Your caption says that Biden is stumping for Hoffman. Isn't Biden stumping for the lib dem Owens? I hope that this isn't an intentional effort to confuse voters!

Anyone see Sarah Palin's reply to Biden yet (on her Facebook page)? Hilarious.

Bill   November 2nd, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Has anyone else noticed the picture with the caption "Biden stumped for Hoffman Monday", appears to show VP Biden standing in front of campaign signs reading Bill Owen on them, or that it's inconsistant that the VP would be 'stumping' for the oppositon?
Just curious. Would be nice to see a contraction for that as well.

DC Observer   November 2nd, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Joe Biden just isn;t very good at trash talking against the GOP. Never has been, never will be.

Biden has more problems in his own party - Iraq – Afghanistan – Gitmo – Health Care – Jobs – Banking Reform – Iran Nuclear – Palestine and Israel – Pakistan and militants – North Korea. If I were Joe or barack, I'd just go to office every day and put my head down and work for the people who elected you, and just stop the school yard taunting - It is so unbecoming of a VP

Dave   November 2nd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Mitt Romney in 2012.

Then you read these political blogs and you have a segment of your society that defend Hannitty, Beck, Limbaugh, Plalin as "truth sayers". Serioulsy? No kidding?!

It's no wonder you elected a "C-average" student to 2 terms as POTUS.

Conservatives are absolutist (not all), but it seems that most conservatives believe their way is the only way........which is false......They say conservatives want gov. waste to stop, and for the deficit to be dealt with.......Who doesn't? However the reality of the situation is that this President came into office w/ a gigantic deficit already, and a looming depression to fight off.....the stock market was crashed.....and consumer spending as well as lending had frozen to a stand still......The only entity that could deficit spend, was the government.......The fact is, (notice I said fact) is that it worked.....GDP is up 3.5%.......The next logical step is to get ones fiscal house in order.....Which I have confidence that the President will begin in spring 2010.....

pshaw   November 2nd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Absolutists is a good word for this set of beliefs.

Joe is right.

Surfer   November 2nd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

OK, so Biden is an embarrassment, a bit of a buffoon.

But, compared to Palin, Limbaugh, and the Bushes, he comes across as quite intelligent.

sharon   November 2nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

V.P. Biden is so Correct...........

There should be no "drill baby drill"......but rather "save baby save".

Save our energy.
Save our dollars.
Save our Planet.
Save our HUMAN RACE.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   November 2nd, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Be quiet Joe.

We want the neo-cons to run Saint Sarah of the Silly in 2012!

The 30% of Americans that think she is qualified will help her "bust right through that door that God opened".

We want the neo-con "christians" to rule the republican party.

Don't cha ya know?

Greg   November 2nd, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Acorn registered something like a million voters during the election last year. Obama won by what? 7 or 8 million? even if every single one of those Acorn registries was fraudulent, it still would not have changed the outcome of the election even slightly.

Melissa   November 2nd, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Funny that the Repubs slam Biden for speaking his mind and then turn around and say it's refreshing when Palin does it. Yet another inconsistency within this party. No wonder nobody can figure out what these people stand for.

annie s   November 2nd, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Not terribly worried that 2 Governors races and a congressional race to replace a Republican in a conservative district will have much negative effect on President Obama. I would be concerned if I was (shudder, shudder) a Republican though – why would they want to disenfranchise even more of their members than they have now by backing only conservatives? The party of old white guys (and one dumb white female) needs to be more inclusive if they are going to survive. Oh wait! Who cares if they survive? Their ideals and policies couldn't be more wrong for the 21st century.

cc   November 2nd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Conservativism is exactly what we need, the current government is writing checks they can't cash. It is time for everyone to wake up and smell the bull!! We are owned by the Chinese and this country is being bailed out/stimulated to the ground. We need to go back to our values; we are willing to give a hand up not HAND OUTS! Generations are being ruined by "entitlements" versus working.

Tater   November 2nd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Newt gingrich and michael steele have lost all credibility as members of the republican party! They should both resign now! No, token liberals and left wing nuts are not welcome in the gop especially when they try to run as a republican!

God n' Country   November 2nd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Republican All Around tomorrow. Hoffman, Christie, McDonnell... Keep America Strong, Safe, and Secure!

John H.   November 2nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

How rich! Try asking Joe Lieberman if dissent in the Democratic Party is permitted. Last I heard his chairmanship was being threatened for "dissenting". Such hypocrisy.

JrJr   November 2nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Hanity – lying multimillionaire
Rush- Pill popping multimillionaire
Palin – dingbat multimillionaire
Beck – cry baby multimillionaire

but no, trust'em they are just looking out for the middle class.

cm   November 2nd, 2009 3:26 pm ET

I am tired of CNN and the rest of the media for giving these teabaggers their time; it is like they are being unleased on us. Hoffman stated that he would follow the values of Beck, he did not even know the district but because he was a conservative that was all that counted plus he did not even live in the district.. Now you have all your teabaggers gloating. Wake up people you will have a lot of elections to keep up with in 2010. I heard Pat today on CNN say they wanted in 2012 another Regan. The repubs have reached a point that they do not care who they support to gain control they will do anything; and they do not care if who they endorse or support knows anything. Why do people not research. No one has the right at the expense of others for this kind of hate and egotiscal behavior.

Gentwelve   November 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Becareful what you say about Sarah and Rush, these Fascist's have a way of remebering their enemies and yes, the people of the U.S. are the stated enemies of the fascist conservatives.

Danny   November 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

If the Republicans keep forcing out the moderates in their party they'll become more and more irrelevent to mainstream America. Just as the Dems moved too far left in the 70's & 80's, so are the Repubs moving too far right. The Dems paid for it and the GOP will too. It's hard to win elections when only 20% of voters view your party favorably.

Dean   November 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Biden you need to go back to probing steroid use in baseball. You really can't do too much harm there.

Mike Syracuse, NY   November 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Perhaps Joe should take a look at what his followers call Blue Dog Democrats who don't toe the line on health care. Why is it that Lieberman is now an Independent? Face it, the ultra-left has a stronger lock on the Democratic Party than Limbaugh does on the Republican Party. When Hoffman wins, who will have learned the lesson Joe?

Sawber   November 2nd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

The Dems claim Limbaugh is the leader of the party and then, when he supports someone outside the party, claims dissent within the party is not allowed.

Am I the only one who sees the rich irony?

Palin and other Republicans are dissenting. Biden simply can't fathom doing something that wasn't in lockstep with the Dem party.

Tina   November 2nd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Glad to know that finally true conservatives are fighting back and Republicans pretending to be truly conservatives are being ousted. Republicans should stick to their conservative values and they will definitely gain the trust of a many conservatives.
If Palin is a nobody on the eyes of liberals, why are they so worried about her? She must be speaking and fighting for something that ticks off the day light of many liberals.

holly   November 2nd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I am always an independent and rarely bothering to put my political opinions out (busy to work, busy to take care of my kids/family, and of course, BUSY TO PAY MY TAXES). I know what kind of life under socialism and communist ruling. The current direction of this country, the policies of this administration, and the far left extreme of congress, have make me so concern about the future of this great, but imperfect country. Americans need to teach the far left democratic a LESSION and bring this country back to THE PEOPLE.

BR   November 2nd, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Joe Biden is great.

mjm   November 2nd, 2009 3:20 pm ET

"We aren't asking you to switch your party," Biden said at a rally for Democrat Bill Owens"

He was at a rally for a democrat. Why would he ask them to switch parties?

This guy makes no sense.

Big deal. A bunch of libs boo Palin and Rush. What else is new.

JC   November 2nd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Democrats booed the mention of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin at a Democratic rally. How is this news?

Bruce in VA   November 2nd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Oh, this is rich. That moron Joe Biden says that the Republicans won't tolerate dissent, yet I saw some pretty strong reaction from readers over the story of Joe Lieberman and the public option. So who really won't tolerate dissent?

John   November 2nd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Biden is a Palin wannabee and jealous of the attention she gets. Don't forget, she one the VP debate, hands down.

buddy93   November 2nd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

My God Republican's (at least on this site) are so hateful and obnoxious. Why are they incapable of typing OUR president's name correctly? They refer to him as Obmer, and Obummer this is so disrespectful, he is our president like it or not. Are we grownups or a bunch of kids? I know that if we hear our childern calling each other names and treating each other the way that we do on these sites there would be huge trouble and cause for concern. Come on everyone please grow up and try to teach by example it's okay to disagree but do so with some respect for yourselves and each other.

Peter   November 2nd, 2009 3:18 pm ET

To hear Republicans talk about stolen elections is a joke.

Eric   November 2nd, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Personally I am so tired of conservatives bashing Obama, Biden and the Democrats. I have a new flash for all you die hard conservatives. You might wanna look in the mirror before you start bashing our current administration. Cause last time I checked it was the Republican party over the past 8 years that dragged this country into the ditch. The Obama administration has wonderful ideas and has already made huge progress considering what they inherited from the last administration. Conservatives claim to be so patriotic and pro American. Really?? I don't think constantly bashing our country and our President would be considered patriotic. Spending a stimulus to improve our nation. That is so bad? Well reality check for Republicans. American has spoken and spoken loud and clear. The majority voted out Republicans and will continue to do so in this election. So if your so unhappy with America and our President please do us all a favor and either shut up or really please leave. Personally as a Democrat and a proud American, I fully stand behind the Obama administrations actions and plans for this country. Its time to stop bashing and slandering and start working with the Democrats to improve our nation.

john colasanti   November 2nd, 2009 3:18 pm ET

This is why i'd drive 100 miles to see Sarah, but not walk across the street to see Mr. Biden. He just doesn't get it. ENOUGH GOVERNMENT! We don't need Joe and his ideas on how I should live my life, get my insurance, and above all, which companys I need to bail out. Go, Doug, GO!

Tania   November 2nd, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Joe, don't lower yourself to even mention Palin. Not worth it. And the people who listen to her will not listen to anyone else.

SAVVY OLDTIMER   November 2nd, 2009 3:17 pm ET

The ultra conservatives are a dangerous bunch,... make no mistake about that,... they represent radicalism, no tolerance for anybody that doesn't reflect their image,... has history not thought us anything about these people?... does the rise of naziism in Germany , not parallell this group and their beliefs ? Given a chance at absolute power, this crowd would, set us back hundreds of years to the times of persecution, and witch hunts. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Mark Williams, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, scare the hell out of me with their venomous, hate filled propaganda.

Peter   November 2nd, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Anyone who still doesn't see how stupid Republicans and conservatives are need only read the imbecility in these comments. These idiots act no differently from lobotomized patients in a psychiatric ward who are blind to reality and see the world throught the distorted lens of emotions they have no control over. How long will it take for people to wake up to this??

Ah, politics as usual, with people on both ends of the see-saw pointing and yelling at "them" on the other side. You know, "them" – all those people in that other party. Every single one of these politicians (and don't forget the lobbyists) LOVES your simplistic categorizations and side-taking. It makes their jobs so easy... It's not Republicans or Democrats (or Ralph Nader supporters) who keep our political knuckles dragging in the dirt – it's anybody who regurgitates the same force-fed, inane "analysis" about this country's problems whilst swaddled comfortably inside the cradle of their party affiliation.

Chris   November 2nd, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Republicans return to the center!!!! Where are your loyalties; with ultra right-wingers? Return to being the party of Teddy Roosevelt and Progressives. Don't let the religious right hijack the GOP!!! Not only will the fiscal conservative-social conservative divide tear the Republican party apart, but this nonsense will lead to social conservatives resorting to violent and Nationalist (Nazism) attitudes that will lead to the election of a Hitler-like cult of personality figure (and I'm not talking about Obama). Don't repeat history. Terrorism will reach our shores again, not by muslim radicals, but by Christian right-wingers if this trend continues. Republicans control your base or else the United States will no longer exist, and civil war will consume the entire country; This is a very delicate and dangerous time in history.

Bob Casey Sr.   November 2nd, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Hey Joe remember me? You are a joke!

Jim   November 2nd, 2009 3:13 pm ET

I'm pro-choice and pro-gay marriage for what I believe are conservative reasons–I don't think big government should get involved–so where does this leave me? If the GOP keeps telling folks like me that we aren't welcome, fine but when we vote Libertarian or even Democratic don't cry about it.

jm   November 2nd, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Wow! Democrats don't like conservatives? When did that happen?

Kathy   November 2nd, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Steve from AK   November 2nd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

The Dems should be careful here...this is just another holier than thou crazy person who may be a harbinger of what os to come in 2010!

Joe is dumber than Palin   November 2nd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Now that's a good laugh – Joe Biden telling Sarah Palin how complicated something is... Whereas the Obama bootlickers slander a good person (Sarah Palin) without a thought as to how hypocritical their remarks may be... Everyone can easily see Biden for the total bafoon that he is. The man cannot put together complete sentences. Maybe he should take Obama's lead and never say anything that hasn't been teleprompted in front of him. As bugs bunny would say, "What a Maroon"!

Red by Choice   November 2nd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Sarah is such an irritant to the liberals that they just can't leave her alone. In one breath they say she is irrelevant and in the next they are growling venomous epithets while drops of spittle spew forth from their gnashing teeth. So which is it? How dare her have the audacity to be a competent woman espousing conservative, traditional values, making no apologies for being a mother and leader. How dare her be a Republican. Liberals aren’t so tolerant after all, are they? She scares liberals on so many levels.

Brett from Oriskany,VA   November 2nd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

No dissent allowed! Hitler would of loved it. We'll appoint Obergruppenfuhrer Limbaugh as Propaganda minister, Cheney can head the SS, Palin could have Julius Streicher's job as top fool. Oh gee, but they haven't got a Fuhrer< thank God.
Read history, people, it CAN happen here!

Mr. Meteoritical   November 2nd, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I am no fan of Joe Biden, but he has more intelligence in his pinky finger than Palin and Limbaugh combined. Of course, that isn't saying much. Everything he said is true, even if it's a dufus saying it.

As usual there are the typical mean and demeaning comments from the far-right!

Almost a year ago the Republicans got a LOUD message from America,
"HOPE TRUMPS HATE"!

However, the GOP does not learn, they keep up with the hate, lies, fear and division. Keep doing the same old thing over and over.

GOP DOES NOT GET IT!

me   November 2nd, 2009 3:06 pm ET

Joe had 200 gather to hear him in NY, and 50 reporters....in a city of 30,000 people. How many would have shown up to hear Palin speak?

Kyle   November 2nd, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Hey Joe, you putz, I think your hair plugs were sewn in too tight; you're starting to sound dumber by the day.

Steve in CT   November 2nd, 2009 3:03 pm ET

Real mature Mr. Biden. It sounds like you got your tactics from the elementary school playground. How about suggesting voters spend their votes in support of their personal priorities instead of trying to sucker them into spending their vote for your candidate? Do you think all voters are idiots who'll support the financial demise of America to act so childish as you suggest? Don't insult us.

Only three years left America. Hope we survive until than.

But God bless Sara Palin, we really needed her here in VA. She's breathing new life into the Deeds campaign by asking us to vote for her values??!!

Even if the right wins, this is and will be the end, because we all know America, Republicans will do something to make a point to this country that they care about nothing but themselves. So lets hope we get this repub in. He will screw it up, and we will make our point. I mean a republican is what? A religuous, pro life but pro death gun owning or wanting for some reason anti woman, corporate hungry anti anything that is good party, if they ran this world we would be surrounded by hungry dominating men ruining the planet and making a nest egg for Jesus. Disgusting! I'm done, and don't worry if this guy wins this will be huge news and the more the right yell the harder we will come at them! So bring it on!

Joe from NC   November 2nd, 2009 2:55 pm ET

This election just goes to show how so-called "conservatives" are really mindless, bleating sheeple. Instead of supporting their party's candidate, the conservative sheeple let the rabid, hatemongers of talk radio and hate television pick their candidate and tell them what to think.

Do conservatives think for themselves at all? Of course not. Rush Limbaugh, the documented liar, and Glenn Beck, enabler of a new, friendlier Fascism, tell the conservative sheeple what to think.

All these sheeple will destroy this country from within with their hate.

MarkE   November 2nd, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Hey, if Scozzafeva wants to support Democratic candidates, then she shoudl switch parties and run as a Democrat. Let the chips fall where they may...

conniesz   November 2nd, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Oh boy – here we go. The far right wing needs to get a grip on reality. Firstly, a huge portion of the stimulus money has yet to be distributed. All of the money was allocated up front, but the actual distribution (spending) was always intended to take several years because getting out of this mess is not something that can happen over night. And secondly, I wish the press would spend as much time reporting the facts as they do the gossip. The NY-23 is one district that has historically always gone to a conservative – so the Dems never really expected to win this one – yet they may anyhow.

It all doesn't matter anyhow – this election is for fools. By the time the mid-term election comes around the Dems will be solidly on top because the economy will be in full recovery and the obstructionist Republicans won't be able to take any credit for it.

Sea.gem   November 2nd, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Biden is a fool..the Republican candidate was actually a lib...and she had to withdraw or face a humuiliating loss.

Dave   November 2nd, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Tells you every thing you need to know: The Republican candidate dropped out and supports the Democrat, not the true conservative in the race. Like WAY too many Republicans in the House and Senate, this person obviously was a Republican in name only.

That is the reason the republicans lost the last few years: they are not holding onto their true fiscal conservative values. Maybe this will wake them up.

Ren from Baltimore   November 2nd, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Hey Joe,
These are certainly not "strict Conservatives" playing these muscle games.

These are not Reagan or even Buckley Conservatives. These "leaders"-Palin, Armey for two-actually lost to Conservatives. Yes, they were voted down for being, essentially, UN-American, dimwitted, and underhanded-take your pick where to apply those "values."

Republicans certainly want their Party back!!

Julia - Native American from Idaho   November 2nd, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Sarah Palin, born in Idaho, need I say more. Her favorite hobby, making toilet paper out of the Constitution.

Sarah SHOOTS Back on FB   November 2nd, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Palin just responded at guess where?Facebook her unfiltered rant page.Interesting remarks from her on energy independence.I guess Joe was against the Alaska oil pipeline that contributed billions of barrels of oil,as well as dollars to the American economy. She states her alternative energy goals were 50% renewables compared to Os 25%,which in her short term 20% were achieved. She also blasts these guys for supporting offshore drilling in Brazil with loans to Petrobas, while keeping American oil companies from drilling offshore in America.Bidon just shot himself in the foot again,he really is a gaff machine that just distorted facts again.I like him but again this guys wrong.

Do you not realize that these races are in REPUBLICAN territory??

there shouldn't even be a contest – and the fact that there IS shows what has happened to the Republican party.

I repeat.. this shouldn't have even been a contest – but it's going to be down to the wire... even with Republican wins across the board it only shows their in question even on their own turf.

Liberal4Obama   November 2nd, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Sarak Palin is nothing but an opportunist, she is driving a wedge so huge in the republican party but she does not care that moderates and independents WILL be looking elsewhere, it's all about Palin and the 7 dwarfs in her lunatic right wing fringe of a tea party.

yuri   November 2nd, 2009 2:45 pm ET

The GOP gasconade about conservative values, once almost dissed by Pope John paul II, has general public gaspin' for breath.
The die-hard right wing wingnuts and bigots would do well by not ratcheting up their rhetorical rodomontades about their radical je ne se pa talk.

Gary N   November 2nd, 2009 2:45 pm ET

So the Vice President wants people to vote one way not because of a better candidate but because it will teach someone a lesson? Does Biden really think this is what our system is built on and what our forefathers set up for us?

MARK   November 2nd, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Biden should keep his mouth shut! He's gonna ruin any chances the democrat has at winning.

Tom L   November 2nd, 2009 2:42 pm ET

It's funny to hear Democrats say that the Republicans aren't an inclusive party. Is it me or aren't you the ones that call Lieberman a "traitor" because he doesn't believe in the public option??

The facts are that conservatives actually stood up for their beliefs and values here. It had absolutely nothing to do with backing the party. Nothing makes that fact more clear than Scozzafava endorsing the Democrat candidate. The reason she did that is because her values are more in line with the Democrat than the Conservative.

Republicans did not alienate a moderate. They didn't want someone who is pro-choice, for gay marriage and a supporter of Obama's economic policies. Scozzafava was not just a moderate, she represented Democrat values; not Republican values.

So Republicans said we don't want someone who only has an "R" behind their name; rather Republicans want someone who represents their values. That makes sense to me.

Pfantom111   November 2nd, 2009 2:41 pm ET

Why don't the Republicans simply split into two parties officially.

1. Those who arte insane and are fascists
2. Those who like big business and like bribes.

see no problem. Case closed.

Kevin in Ohio   November 2nd, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Joe Biden is asking the voters in NY23 to vote AGAINST traditional American values. Sorry, Joe..... conservatives are not giving up saving this country from Socialism and Communism just yet.

ray ray   November 2nd, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Nancy and others,

By voting for Hoffman, you may indeed be sending the message that Repubs and Dems are the same and you're fed up. But in the same token, you're also sending a message that says"Yes. Let me be a puppet of the right fringe media"

You really wanna be a tool for the likes of Limbaugh, Palin, Beck, etc.?

Way to go, Joe! Bring up all the conservative and Republican boogeymen (and women) to fire up the liberal core in NY-23. Your rambling commentaries make no sense and only appear to work when you throw in Palin's, Limbaugh's or Bush's name every couple of minutes to get the obligatory boo's.

Only problem with this strategy is that there's aren't enough liberals in NY-23 to fill a small auditorium.

Biden is the biggest fiscal conservative we've ever seen. Just look at how little of HI S OWN money he gives to charity. Have no illusions, he knows what conservatism is all about.

Rick   November 2nd, 2009 2:28 pm ET

The direct reflection of Obama's job approval is the over 50% job approval rating he has, not an election in a small district of NY that hasn't elected a democrat since the 19th century. Hey "Proud Member..Party of No" you seem to be from the party of "No knowledge" as well.

Biden tells it like it is, and it scares people. I love it!

Paul from Phoenix   November 2nd, 2009 2:21 pm ET

I believe it is officially time to call this the Rham Emmanuel presidency (much like the previous Cheney presidency).

I say this because all Obama does is play golf (26 rounds, more then double what W and Clinton had played to date combined!) and campaign, and Biden couldn't tie his shoes without help.

BTW, this rally, which was free to the public, was only 65% full, with the Vice-President in attendance. Ouch.

The real joke, is that everywhere the lesson being learned sadly not understood, by the Liberals of this country that makes up only about 20% is that we are sick of their TAX and SPEND policies, that are destroying our prospects of a future free of govern't intervention and confiscation of our wealth. That is the real lesson being learned, as we as Americans are deciding to TAKE our Country BACK!!!. Tomorrow is just the first page of the Conservative movement to take our Country Back!!!!

Biden said at a rally for Democrat Bill Owens in Watertown, New York Monday morning. "We are just saying join us in teaching a lesson to those absolutists who say no dissent is permitted within your own party."

So Joe, who do the Moderate Democrates join to teach a lesson to the "absolutists" Left in your party who say no dissent is not permitted?????

Doug   November 2nd, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Joe say it ain't so Biden, a carpetcarrier if there was ever one. Let the people in this district make up their own minds. The white house will soon learn that last year's election is well over. Change is still coming, just wait a little bit longer.

Larry S   November 2nd, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Here is a great idea . . . some great facts for the vp, and other liberals:
1) You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2) What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3) The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4) When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
5) You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

I can't believe the bashing that Palin is getting on her calls for people to vote their conscious. Everyone on the Comment section is calling her a dumb woman from Alaska. Well, let me say that she is not as dumb as the Vice President from Delaware that Obama selected. All I can say is "GO PALIN" run your mouth and let the Liberals know that Obama is a one term president and a lot of congressional member's who have supported the Healthcare Bill and support destruction of our constitutional rights. YOU TOO will be finished in 2010 and 2012.

It's odd how Limbaughs name turns up everywhere these days.I'd like to ask his fans a couple of questions. What does Rush ever do but talk? If you need help, a roof over your head, education for your kids, food on the table. Do you go to Rush? No. All he does is talk, hate talk at that. This man has only a high school education, flunked out of college, army didn't want him and yet who do you listen to? Wise up guys. He's not working his butt off to help you get ahead, he doesn't care if your sick kids don't have a doctor. He has said loudly and often, MONEY is his god. This is the mouth that you believe in? What the heck happened to America?? You have no idea of your own political history. The Republican Party until very recently, was not just made up of social conservatives!!! It was a fiscally conservative party! One of your most prominent Presidents of the Republican persuasion was a "reformer" (ie a liberal) Does the name Theodore Roosevelt ring a bell?? He was fiscally conservative but engineered sweeping social changes (anti-trust ring a bell), won a Nobel Peace Prize (no isolationism for him!), Add Abraham Lincoln to the mix as well. The GOP has become a shadow of itself and that is sad. Now if you do not agree with the social conservatives you aren't really a Republican!!

"Democrats should be the last group calling extremists based on you strong handing your moderates to make the wingnut lefts happy with the health bill"

Fantastic example of just how upside down people are in their analysis as a result of the GOP calling anything having to do with health care reform other than more tax cuts for wealthy Americans and tort reform to help the insurance companies an "extreme leftist" piece of legislature. Hint: Most true progressive liberals consider the public option being offerend an abomination because they recognize that all facts, all empirical evidence, all examples we have from around the world, etc., show without a doubt that single-payer is the only real way to save our health care system, provide for everyone and prevent the economic apocalypse the health care and insurance industries are threatening us with.

I am conservative. No I don't hate people because of race, religion, or economic class. I spend money I earn, not money I don't have. I work hard every day to EARN my way to the top. I do not expect the government or anyone else for that matter to take care of my health, education, or success. I take responsibility for my actions, not blame someone else. I understand that life is tough, not everything will go my way. I pray. I believe in God. I respect people that respect me. I help those that are less fortunate as much as I can. I love my family and work hard every day so my 2 daughters can live in a world better than mine. I am conservative.

Lie to the American people and take us into a war that we had no business being in! Who do they have Sarah the quiter, Rush the druggie, John Boehner the bottled tan, each is worse then the next.

Tony   November 2nd, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Biden is unbelievably dim. This country has twice the amount of conservatists as liberals. And the numbers are growing by the minute with this administration's rush to re-distrubution of wealth and freebies to the pour. Hard work, morals and innovation are what made this country great. LEAVE MY WEALTH alone and give those that "need help" jobs. A trillion dollars is a terrible thing to waste. NO TO SOCIALISM!!! Come on 2010 and 2012, time for some REAL CHANGE!!!! This is the worst administration in the history of the US, and it only took 8 months to figure it out.

rachel   November 2nd, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Yes Joe right because dissent among democrats is so welcome that's why democrats are trying to have an all out war with the blue dog democrats on healthcare cause dissent is so welcome in the the party. Maybe the blue dogs should teach the liberals a lesson. I think the repbulicans and the conservative are gonna take it. People dont like one party forcing their views on the majority.

Mike in MN   November 2nd, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Biden's an idiot. If the voters in NY23 supported Scozzafeva's values, she would have done better in the polls. The voters in the 23rd district are choosing Hoffman and his conservative values over Scozzafeva. The RNC did not make her quit nor did people like Palin or Pawlenty or Limbaugh make her quit. She quit because he voters in the polls were rejecting her and choosing Hoffman who is running under a third party. When Hoffman wins it will be because the voters in the 23rd district chose his conservative values over the liberal Owens and Scozzafeva. Owens and Schozzafeva gave voters little contrast to choice between. When Hoffman was added to the picture, voters flocked to the conservative choice over the two liberals. The people decided, not the Repubican party.

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 2nd, 2009 1:20 pm ET

Great news, NY Republicans are now voting Democrat because they are smart.

Sniffit   November 2nd, 2009 1:20 pm ET

"This is the party that many in the media have stated is not unified, in disharmony, no real ideas. Are those divisions NOT dissent in within the party."

They're not. What you're actually seeing is the majority of the GOP become alienated by extreme right-wing conservativism like that espoused by Limbaugh, Gingrich, Coulter, et al. The idea that a black progressive liberal completely spanked them in 2008 was anathema and has motivated them beyond all reason to cull the GOP herd for fear that anything on the liberal agenda will come to fruition, thus helping the American people and making the liberals look good, which they just plain can't allow if they want to return to power. Thus, anyone with anything resembling a moderate leaning or a willingness to compromise and move forward must be burned at the political stake. That's not representative of several factions disagreeing...particularly when all the moderate Republicans seem more than willing to bend over and take it sothey can continue to drink from the RNC election fund trough.

Matt   November 2nd, 2009 1:17 pm ET

The Vice President spent his time talking about why people shouldn't elect Hoffman instead of why they should vote for Owens. This is a bad strategy and is something the Dems need to get away from.

Because it worked for President Obama (reality is that more people were casting a vote against George Bush than for President Obama...even in his speeches and debates, he talked about GW half the time) does not mean it should become the party line. The Dems are getting awfully close to alienating the American public again. Now more than ever, this country needs a centrist third-party that can cut through the garbage spewed on both sides of the aisle. Isn't there any third-party candidate that could have a legitimate chance at winning federal office?

James   November 2nd, 2009 1:16 pm ET

I cannot imagine any intelligent person letting theirselves be guided by the Limbaughs, Becks, Palins of this world.
How can anyone support these dispicable messengers of hate,
anger, fear mongering and lies?
Or the radical religious right who claim such purity yet resort to sewer tactics, whose only goal is to destroy our president, consequently our country, obstructing any and all actions to benefit the American people?
Who put party and winning at any cost over our survival?
Who have totally ignored what they were elected to do and that is
represent us and our country?
Wake up America, they led us down the road to destruction these last eight years and will continue to do so.

Mike in MN   November 2nd, 2009 1:14 pm ET

Does Biden ever know what he is talking about. Hoffman decided to run on his own as a conservative because Scozzafeva was a liberal. Hoffman is not running as a Republican and was not chosen by Republicans, he is a third party. Many conservatives including conservative Republicans support Hoffman's conservative values. It's a free country. You can run as a third party if you want too and voters can support any candidate that most fits their values. The Republican party did not kick out Scozzafeva, in fact the RNC endorsed her. She quit on her own, no one made her. She quit when she saw the poll results that indicated her values did not represent very many voters in her district when they had a choice of her or a conservative candidate. The voters in her distirict rejected her, not the Republican party.

Adam   November 2nd, 2009 1:14 pm ET

"The idea that Rush Limbaugh would handpick [the] successor is kind of unusual," Biden said of the popular conservative radio host who has heavily backed Hoffman over the national party's choice of Scozzafava.

The LOCAL party picked her (no primary race) and Hoffman went in independently before Limbaugh ever mentioned his name on the airwaves. So the above statement is wrong on all counts.

Whah! Whah! Whah! Dede has done the country a service by showing that every "moderate" Republican will align themselves with the left by supporting Owens instead of Hoffman. VP Biden, with all due respect, you lead the charge to throw Joe Lieberman out by thinking for himself on one issue. You say Conservatives are "absolutists" by having firm principals that the electrorate can either vote for or vote against. When was that a bad thing? Squishly politicos, especially on the GOP side, got us here – lets rumble tomorrow, in 2010, and beyond for the sake of the country.

Otto   November 2nd, 2009 1:07 pm ET

This reminds me of how the Republicans think. Imagine Richard Cheney can't recall 72 times what he said or did not say about the Valarie scandal.

Republicans seems to think they know everything and only the "Old Boys" should carry the party. They have made a fool of themselves appointing their first black RNC leader. Funny though, that leader takes his assignments from Rush.

Most people have a very short memory span and they have forgotten the main reasons why the economy crashed. May I remind you that your previous President and VP spent over a trillion dollars in Iraq. Remember also the bags of cash falling off the pickup trucks around Bagdad.

It seems that after loosaing more than 4,000 men and women and 40,000 mained; the oil you went for is not in the hands of the Chinese at the expence of Americans (you know what)

The country is a little bit conservative in general. When the Democrats start talking about big government healthcare reform, big deficit spending and new taxes then suddenly the overwhelming majority of the country gets nervous and starts looking for conservative candidates. President Obama got elected with a mandate for change but not for socialism, more government or more taxes. He should keep to the middle of the spectrum and stop Pelosi and Reid from trying to push us too far left.

Pee Wee   November 2nd, 2009 1:02 pm ET

The message I have received from the Democratics is they spent well over 700 BILLION dollars to create or save 650 thousand jobs. The media thought this was good. Next they spent millons on cash for clunkers to sell a little over 500,000 cars that put that many people in debt., and still shut down the american car makers as we know them after throwing billions of dollars at them. Last that we have a president that will not take NO as an answer from the american people. Sad truly sad.

This country will not be hijacked by right wing nuts who think they can threaten and or purge moderates from their party. They can't win elections in the near future with just white senior citizens. They are dying off , meanwhile hispanics, african americans, asians, gays, women, independents, moderates are running to President Obama in droves and will be the determining factor in future elections. These talk show personalities have pulled up the rock under which the radical left has been hiding and forced them to crawl out into the sunshine, where they do not like the exposure, as everyone can see their true agenda. That is why they are waging war on media entertainers and trying to label them as 'extremists.' The only extremists I have seen are those currently in the White House. Keep following blindly, Obama sheep.

Douglas4517   November 2nd, 2009 12:54 pm ET

I think this says it all:

"A just-released Siena College poll suggests Hoffman holds a 5-point lead over Owens, while 18 percent of likely remain undecided."

jay   November 2nd, 2009 12:54 pm ET

..."We are just saying join us in teaching a lesson to those absolutists who say no dissent is permitted within your own party."–Joe Biden. 11/2/09.

REALLY? This is the party that dropped Joe Libermann, former candidate for VP in 2000, a few years later because he did not tow the anti-war rope. The party who embraces the idea of calling blacks who are Conservative "Uncle Tom." No dissent in the Republican party? Really? This is the party that many in the media have stated is not unified, in disharmony, no real ideas. Are those divisions NOT dissent in within the party.

The Essential Republican   November 2nd, 2009 12:54 pm ET

We have no room for free thinkers in this party. If you can't goosestep with the rest of us...auf wiedersehen, baby!

Todd   November 2nd, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Please give me all your names and I will call you back after the election. Democrats should be the last group calling extremists based on you strong handing your moderates to make the wingnut lefts happy with the health bill

Dixon   November 2nd, 2009 12:53 pm ET

I keep reading where the majority of people support what the Republican party is working for. WHAT MAJORITY? Since when does the consistent 30% or less on any position represent the majority of Americans. As for Liberals being haters as stated below I think both parties have to many of those. I do not want to live in a Far Right, or Far Left country.

Fitz in Texas   November 2nd, 2009 12:51 pm ET

Old "Average Joe" Biden campaigning again. Yep, old "Average Joe" Biden that lives in a 3 million dollar house. Hey, I'm an "Average Joe" Texan and I sure can't afford a 3 million house.

When will the Vice President and the President stop campaigning and GET BACK TO WORK AND EARN YOUR MONEY!

The Essential Republican   November 2nd, 2009 12:51 pm ET

kg in okiehoma   November 2nd, 2009 12:47 pm ET

GOP swirling in the drain. The Moony Times had an article today bracing the GOP for a loss.

Aunt Bea and Opie   November 2nd, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Dick Armey is a Texas low life carpetbagger that is working for the defense contractors. He loves the blood money.

What have we come to?   November 2nd, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Anyone who needs Biden to campaign for them is either desperate or incredibly stupid.

TLD   November 2nd, 2009 12:45 pm ET

The Republican Party is a disgrace and an abomination. There is something putrid about these guys and gals. The Republican Parties of past decades did not make me want to shower after I hear or see them speak on issues. I think it may have started with the Newt Gingrich Crew a few years back.

Nancy   November 2nd, 2009 12:44 pm ET

I say vote the third party and send a message to the democrats and the republicans that we are not going to take their crap anymore!!

Steveo   November 2nd, 2009 12:43 pm ET

This is really a dangerous pattern for our country. The ultra-conservatives know that Fox News and their other talk radio heads have a captive audience. They are now purging moderate Republicans from the party and pretty soon, this third party they seem to be trying to create and the Republicans will both be irrelevant. The quality of government will suffer from Republican lack of leadership. Democrats will dominate and the ultra-ultra-conservatives will resort to violence and domestic terrorism when they can't get their way.

mike   November 2nd, 2009 12:40 pm ET

And then we can teach the left wing hate filled fundamentalist progressives a lesson in 2012 by getting rid of uhbumba.

Barry In Las Vegas   November 2nd, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Scozzafava is a Democrat and she should change her party affilication to reflect what she really is.

She was simply posing as a Republican. Pro abortion, pro gay marrage and pro Obama policies are all Democrat positions.

Good bye and good ridance.

toby hill   November 2nd, 2009 12:37 pm ET

No Biden, Conservatives are about to teach the RINOs a lesson in party principles. If a Party of No means sticking with principles then I'll wear the Party of No Badge with honor but if it means always sacrificing principles just to get along then I'm for not getting along.

Rob   November 2nd, 2009 12:37 pm ET

Yes, good idea!

Fair is Fair   November 2nd, 2009 12:35 pm ET

The buffoon strikes again.

Biden, you are SO irrelevant. No one takes you seriously. If you had another brain it would be lonely.

Buffoon.

Koa   November 2nd, 2009 12:30 pm ET

"This is a different ideology," Biden continued. "This is different than anything I've known in my 45 years of being familiar with this district.

Kind of telling on how in touch with the country Biden is if this "ideology" (conservatism) is alien to him.

obummer, 1 and done   November 2nd, 2009 12:30 pm ET

We've seen extreme conservative views before, but we have not seen extreme liberal views running the country.

From the looks of things now, extreme liberals ruining the country, (sorry I meant running, but same thing), is worse than the extreme conservatives.

Jane/Seattle   November 2nd, 2009 12:28 pm ET

The misinformation out here is astounding! Lie, Lie, Lie and pretty soon no one will know the difference. Thoise who get so much money are probably the least trutst-worthy! I do not know about NY politics much, BUT we need Dems to support the peoples Agenda for Equality, Equity, and Justice. You don;t offer to fight for these ideas, You are of no use to us at all! I don't like Biden! he is a good old boy and offers only bad old-school Politics! I did vote for Obama as my man, Dennis Kucinich was neutralized early. The agendas of Dennis K, Bernie Sanders et al are always marginalized so we get stuck with ever more Crapitalists and War-Mongers! When we figure out that it in our best interests to refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils, we will get good elected officials who are NOT buyable. Peace

Tom in Delaware   November 2nd, 2009 12:28 pm ET

That lead has opened to 17 points guys....now that Biden is there it'll be at 25 by election day...tomorrow.

I hate to be cruel, but could you guys in NY just keep Biden up there for a while...we've had him for 36 years and we need a break.

Lisa   November 2nd, 2009 12:26 pm ET

It comes as no surprise that most of the countries biggest whackadoodles are coming out for Hoffman. He is a conservative loon who attracts those types. All of these busy boies should keep their noses in their own states. Sara Palin should be taking care of her children and maybe she wouldn't find them in trouble.

mjm   November 2nd, 2009 12:26 pm ET

I'm sorry, but the people in NY-23 picked Hoffman, not Limbaugh, Palin, or Armey.

It's a conservative county. They deserve a conservative Republican, not some RINO.

donttreadonme   November 2nd, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Yes it can teach us that if we choose conservative candidates we can win!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LacrosseDad   November 2nd, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Scozzafava is a Republican with Liberal values, worst of the worst.

William   November 2nd, 2009 12:23 pm ET

LOL , Sure vote for the idiot owens who even with this chaos is behind in the polls. Scozzafeva just wasn't the right perosn for this election.
Of course his hand chosen group of followers present BOOED the mention of those names he paid them to do so.

tarheel   November 2nd, 2009 12:21 pm ET

Yes. It should teach Republicans not to put a Nancy Pelosi Clone in as the Republican candidate to start with. Why in the world should a Republican be forced to choose between a Democrat and a Republican who wouldn't even be a decent blue dog Democrat. Republicans can't win by trying to out Democrat a Democrat.

odumber, 1 and a half year old maturity level...   November 2nd, 2009 12:21 pm ET

Teach conservatives? Why? They already know everything and are never wrong... Biden you should save your schooling for liberals, who are pianfully wrong about everything, and are obviously social communist atheist aliens who love abortions, hate America and would never support our troops with 15 magnetic ribbons, like real Americans!
