Biden stumps for Owens, takes dig at Palin

Biden stumped for Owens Monday.
Biden stumped for Owens Monday.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden challenged Republican voters in New York's 23rd congressional district to teach conservative "absolutists" a lesson in the special House election Tuesday by voting for the Democratic candidate in the race.

"We aren't asking you to switch your party," Biden said at a rally for Democrat Bill Owens in Watertown, New York Monday morning. "We are just saying join us in teaching a lesson to those absolutists who say no dissent is permitted within your own party."

The comments come a day after Republican Dede Scozzafava, who withdrew from the race Saturday amid heavy pressure from conservatives - endorsed Owens. Many high-profile Republicans, including Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Dick Armey, have already thrown their own support behind third-party conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

In his remarks at the rally for Owens, Biden elicited boos from the crowd when he mentioned Palin, Limbaugh and Armey.

"The idea that Rush Limbaugh would handpick [the] successor is kind of unusual," Biden said of the popular conservative radio host who has heavily backed Hoffman over the national party's choice of Scozzafava.

"I would have thought the last person I would bring up to the North Country is Dick Armey," Biden continued, pointing to the former Texas congressman and current chairman of the conservative group FreedomWorks. "He's a decent guy, but he represents a view so alien it seems to me to the pragmatism to the North Country. Sarah Palin, a former governor - her views are real and consistent with Armey's and Limbaugh's and Dick Cheney's."

"This is a different ideology," Biden continued. "This is different than anything I've known in my 45 years of being familiar with this district. You know, they may not have any room for moderate views in the Republican Party upstate anymore, but let me assure you, we have room, we have room."

Later in his remarks, the vice president couldn't help but return to the subject of the former Alaska governor when the issue of energy came up.

"Sarah Palin thinks the answer to energy is 'Drill, baby, drill,' he said, leaning into the microphone. "It's a lot more complicated, Sarah, than drill baby drill."

A just-released Siena College poll suggests Hoffman holds a 5-point lead over Owens, while 18 percent of likely remain undecided.

Update:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fired back at Biden Monday. "As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence," Palin wrote in a note on her Facebook page. "There's one way to tell Vice President Biden that we're tired of folks in Washington distorting our message and hampering our nation's progress: Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman!."

As usual there are the typical mean and demeaning comments from the far-right!

Almost a year ago the Republicans got a LOUD message from America,
    "HOPE TRUMPS HATE"!

However, the GOP does not learn, they keep up with the hate, lies, fear and division. Keep doing the same old thing over and over.

    GOP DOES NOT GET IT!

I am no fan of Joe Biden, but he has more intelligence in his pinky finger than Palin and Limbaugh combined. Of course, that isn't saying much. Everything he said is true, even if it's a dufus saying it.

No dissent allowed! Hitler would of loved it. We'll appoint Obergruppenfuhrer Limbaugh as Propaganda minister, Cheney can head the SS, Palin could have Julius Streicher's job as top fool. Oh gee, but they haven't got a Fuhrer< thank God.
Read history, people, it CAN happen here!

Sarah is such an irritant to the liberals that they just can't leave her alone. In one breath they say she is irrelevant and in the next they are growling venomous epithets while drops of spittle spew forth from their gnashing teeth. So which is it? How dare her have the audacity to be a competent woman espousing conservative, traditional values, making no apologies for being a mother and leader. How dare her be a Republican. Liberals aren’t so tolerant after all, are they? She scares liberals on so many levels.

  6. Joe is dumber than Palin

Now that's a good laugh – Joe Biden telling Sarah Palin how complicated something is... Whereas the Obama bootlickers slander a good person (Sarah Palin) without a thought as to how hypocritical their remarks may be... Everyone can easily see Biden for the total bafoon that he is. The man cannot put together complete sentences. Maybe he should take Obama's lead and never say anything that hasn't been teleprompted in front of him. As bugs bunny would say, "What a Maroon"!

I'm pro-choice and pro-gay marriage for what I believe are conservative reasons–I don't think big government should get involved–so where does this leave me? If the GOP keeps telling folks like me that we aren't welcome, fine but when we vote Libertarian or even Democratic don't cry about it.

Republicans return to the center!!!! Where are your loyalties; with ultra right-wingers? Return to being the party of Teddy Roosevelt and Progressives. Don't let the religious right hijack the GOP!!! Not only will the fiscal conservative-social conservative divide tear the Republican party apart, but this nonsense will lead to social conservatives resorting to violent and Nationalist (Nazism) attitudes that will lead to the election of a Hitler-like cult of personality figure (and I'm not talking about Obama). Don't repeat history. Terrorism will reach our shores again, not by muslim radicals, but by Christian right-wingers if this trend continues. Republicans control your base or else the United States will no longer exist, and civil war will consume the entire country; This is a very delicate and dangerous time in history.

Ah, politics as usual, with people on both ends of the see-saw pointing and yelling at "them" on the other side. You know, "them" – all those people in that other party. Every single one of these politicians (and don't forget the lobbyists) LOVES your simplistic categorizations and side-taking. It makes their jobs so easy... It's not Republicans or Democrats (or Ralph Nader supporters) who keep our political knuckles dragging in the dirt – it's anybody who regurgitates the same force-fed, inane "analysis" about this country's problems whilst swaddled comfortably inside the cradle of their party affiliation.

Anyone who still doesn't see how stupid Republicans and conservatives are need only read the imbecility in these comments. These idiots act no differently from lobotomized patients in a psychiatric ward who are blind to reality and see the world throught the distorted lens of emotions they have no control over. How long will it take for people to wake up to this??

The ultra conservatives are a dangerous bunch,... make no mistake about that,... they represent radicalism, no tolerance for anybody that doesn't reflect their image,... has history not thought us anything about these people?... does the rise of naziism in Germany , not parallell this group and their beliefs ? Given a chance at absolute power, this crowd would, set us back hundreds of years to the times of persecution, and witch hunts. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Mark Williams, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, scare the hell out of me with their venomous, hate filled propaganda.

This is why i'd drive 100 miles to see Sarah, but not walk across the street to see Mr. Biden. He just doesn't get it. ENOUGH GOVERNMENT! We don't need Joe and his ideas on how I should live my life, get my insurance, and above all, which companys I need to bail out. Go, Doug, GO!

Personally I am so tired of conservatives bashing Obama, Biden and the Democrats. I have a new flash for all you die hard conservatives. You might wanna look in the mirror before you start bashing our current administration. Cause last time I checked it was the Republican party over the past 8 years that dragged this country into the ditch. The Obama administration has wonderful ideas and has already made huge progress considering what they inherited from the last administration. Conservatives claim to be so patriotic and pro American. Really?? I don't think constantly bashing our country and our President would be considered patriotic. Spending a stimulus to improve our nation. That is so bad? Well reality check for Republicans. American has spoken and spoken loud and clear. The majority voted out Republicans and will continue to do so in this election. So if your so unhappy with America and our President please do us all a favor and either shut up or really please leave. Personally as a Democrat and a proud American, I fully stand behind the Obama administrations actions and plans for this country. Its time to stop bashing and slandering and start working with the Democrats to improve our nation.

My God Republican's (at least on this site) are so hateful and obnoxious. Why are they incapable of typing OUR president's name correctly? They refer to him as Obmer, and Obummer this is so disrespectful, he is our president like it or not. Are we grownups or a bunch of kids? I know that if we hear our childern calling each other names and treating each other the way that we do on these sites there would be huge trouble and cause for concern. Come on everyone please grow up and try to teach by example it's okay to disagree but do so with some respect for yourselves and each other.

Oh, this is rich. That moron Joe Biden says that the Republicans won't tolerate dissent, yet I saw some pretty strong reaction from readers over the story of Joe Lieberman and the public option. So who really won't tolerate dissent?
