Gergen: GOP win in Virginia is not a referendum on Obama

(CNN) – After CNN projected the Virginia gubernatorial race for Republican Bob McDonnell, CNN political analyst David Gergen said this win should not be considered a referendum on President Obama.

"You can't read this is as a referendum [on Obama]." Gergen said. "It's important not to over-read these elections. But these elections do give you a pretty good sense of which way the wind is blowing and that's also important."
