Sharp differences among Democrats over abortion and immigration have raised questions over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi currently has the 218-vote majority needed for passage of the bill.
Sharp differences among Democrats over abortion and immigration have raised questions over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi currently has the 218-vote majority needed for passage of the bill.

Washington (CNN) - A hotly anticipated health care reform vote by the full House of Representatives may be delayed until Sunday, according to two Democratic sources.

But the vote on the nearly $1.1 trillion bill is still tentatively scheduled for Saturday, the sources noted.

The sources blamed the potential postponement on GOP delaying tactics. Sharp differences among Democrats over abortion and immigration, however, have raised questions over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi currently has the 218-vote majority needed for passage.

Republican leaders added to the turmoil Friday morning, seizing on news of spiraling unemployment to warn that new taxes and regulations including in the sweeping reform measure would push the country into an economic abyss.

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, prepared for a rare Saturday Capitol Hill visit to twist Democratic arms on what has become a virtual make-or-break issue for his young administration.

The question of abortion coverage in the health care bill has bedeviled top Democrats for weeks. Under its current language, the measure would allow individuals to purchase policies through a new insurance exchange that would cover abortion procedures. Anti-abortion rights Democrats, led by Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, have argued that provisions designed to prevent tax dollars from being used to directly pay for such services are inadequate.

Stupak is one of up to 40 anti-abortion Democrats reportedly unsatisfied with the language - potentially enough to strip Pelosi of the 218-vote majority needed to pass the bill.

Democratic leaders may turn to compromise language drafted by Rep. Brad Ellsworth, an Indiana Democrat opposed to abortion rights. Ellsworth has proposed using private contractors to pay providers of abortion services - an idea that has come under fire from both supporters and opponents of abortion rights.

At the same time, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus staunchly oppose adding a provision to the bill that would bar undocumented workers from using their own money to buy health insurance policies available through the exchange.

The measure is already included in the Senate Finance Committee's version of the bill, and is backed by the White House. Some conservative House Democrats have also indicated their support for the Senate language.

Pelosi's bill currently includes various requirements for immigrants to verify their citizenship before getting federal subsidies to buy health insurance. Conservatives, however, have called the requirements insufficient.

ANY Democrat who votes against healthcare reform with the full public option will find themselves out of a job come next November. The MAJORITY of Americans believe the public option is critical for the success of real reform. It is – the insurance companies will not stop abusing us with solid competition to make them lower prices, pay claims as they should, give us the treatment our doctors recommend and actually treat us like human beings instead of drags on their profit margin.

BETRAY AMERICANS ON HEALTHCARE REFORM AND YOU WILL NEVER WORK IN WASHINGTON AGAIN. IF YOU CANNOT SERVE THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR YOU – WE WILL VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO WILL!

Me   November 6th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

Marie Florida – I am very sorry that you have had to go through the health issues that you stated, but I believe that there is a better way to handle the health care issue. Why can't congress just make it mandatory in a bill that insurance companies not exclude you or drop you beacause of a preexisting condition? Instead of forcing all Americans on a plan? Who is to say that we will be able to afford the payments under a government plan. How many people can afford to pay the IRS?

IEK   November 6th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

I don't think people have a problem with the Insurance companies making profits. They have a problem with them making profits by letting their customers die. Google and Pepsi don't make their money off the health of their customers. To me that's a big difference, but I suppose profit is profit, right?

marion/alabama – There's some obvious confusion in what you're posting. 1) illegals already cannot use the Public Option, the issue is whether or not they can purchase private insurance through the Exchange. 2) Similarly, the abortion issue is whether or not plans which cover abortions will be allowed in the Exchange, 3) Cutting Medicare SPENDING is different than cutting Medicare COVERAGE. People (especially on the right) have complained for a long time about the inefficiencies of Medicare. Now that Democrats are trying to do something about it, it's bad?

1% of the taxpayers pay 40% of the tax in this country
10% of the taxpayers pay 70% of the taxes in this country
50% of those "eligible" to pay taxes pay "0" taxes in this country
Our country has turned into "the land of entitlements" In Ca. the "people" voted in on a bullet train. For too many it's easy to look at a bill, realize that they will not have to pay anything for it, and vote yes.
"gee...a bullet train sounds like a really good idea..."
In that i do not fall in the top 10%, I'm tired of paying more then my fair share of taxes only to see my taxes go up because "Congress" and this "Administration" has decided to ram a bill down my throat because they think that they need to add this "entitlement" to our country's debt.
We are on the vurge of complete financial disaster...escalading unemployment, devaluation of the U.S. dollar, National debt WAY at 12.5 trillion with another 5 trillion being added on ( we take on 1.3 trillion in taxes a year TOTAL people!!!) unfunded liabilities for social security AND medicare of 78 trillion (for those of you who are touting the success of Medicare) forget what party affiliation you are. Republicans scarier than terrorists. The Republicans seem to have no shame, are out right lairs to your face, do not care about any body but themselves, represent the moneyed interests, and not the people.

Republicans believe in Our two Wars over your own Health. Congress allowing government to deregulate the financial industry caused Our Economy to come apart and then they act surprised; even though the laws they took away where design to protect Our Economy in the first place. (The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 )

The government needs to govern. The Democrats need to get backbone, as they are running the government they need to lead, else we have little hope for improvement in Our government.

Well if you missed that part did you see the graph that showed the estimate included 168 billion dollars in penalties (33 billion for private citizens and 135 billion for private companies?)

The very last thing we need is the government taking over healthcare which is 17% of the economy. That added to the 30% they already control, is approaching 50% being government controlled. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

erika morgan   November 6th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Our businesses are currently attempting to compete with businesses globally who are not responsible for health care for their employees, but whose employees are covered completely. American business is losing out because of this state of affairs.

Money is like electricity in that it only has value and force if it circulates from hand to hand, that is why we are in such a pickle with 95% of the money in the hands of a few. Greed has ruined our economy to the point where there is no more money for the greedy to take in. (By the way this is why the bank bailouts are a failure.)

Our children need to be asked to make the down payment on the national debt with a two year conscripted national service after high-school graduation. Their labor can be used to bring down the cash outlay of all sorts of health care, education, local government and even some business entry level jobs; and can be paid for with education credit for themselves. (Read up on what the CCC camps did for America and the prosperity of the fifties and sixties in this country.)

Try and imagine what is currently the total bill for the "for profit" health care that we currently have including all the employer, employee portion, co-pays and unfunded necessary care for the whole nation; and understand that a "not for profit" must be cheaper. Note that insurance executives are operating under the greed formula of Wall Streeters, extracting high pay, enormous bonuses, stock options and huge political and advertising campaigns to retain the status quo.

Know that if you have a fancy new imaging machine that cost a whole lot of dollars, the cost of the mortgage on that machine will be amortized over the number of uses it gets, but the money will be due at thirty day intervals, not by the use. What the individual use of the machine is charged reflects the monthly payment divided by the expected number of uses, more uses do not really accurately reflect increased financial liability for the users.

Really sick folks do not have an ability to earn money to pay for their healthcare as they are precluded from working. The presents of sick and dying in our public areas are a security breach for our homeland and the population generally.

This is a few of the reasons we must have real Health Care reform and a new public delivery system for that health care. The great party of NO and a few Blue Dogs are desperate to protect their funding sources at the expense and against the wishes of 60% and climbing, of the work force of America, they have forgotten who they work for but the voters will remember how they voted.

Joe   November 6th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

What really sticks in my craw is, the same money we pay for premiums is being used by the insurance industry to pay the lobbiest that fund the legistlators to delay health reform. The only way to get reimbursed is to expose those legislators that don't support health care reform and stiff them at the ballot box.

Charlie   November 6th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

To everyone who is complaining about the profits by insurance companies. If you were to actually look at their balance sheets and income statements their profit margin was only 3.4% last year. If you crying about 3.4% profit margins go yell at google where they had 20.6% profit margins or the beverage industry that had 25.9% profit margins. If the liberals are all about fairness why are they not yelling about every other company or industry that is making a profit. The foundation of a capitalist society is making a profit, when i see and hear liberals complaining about profits then i have to conclude they are not a fan of capitalism and would prefer socialism.

What is it that those opposed to health care reform do not understand?

We, as taxpayers, are currently paying for emergency room care for
illegal immigrants, those who do not work, and those who we also
support through welfare checks, section 8 housing, food stamps,
education, etc., etc.

The cost of a non-insured person, whether legal or not, is huge:

rescue squad, emergency room costs, hospital stays, etc.

Health care reform will provide doctors for these people, and
should reduce current costs by not calling rescue for a sneeze
or sore finger to take them to the ER.

If you do not pay for anything, why would you care about the costs
taxpayers provide?

Reducing costs to taxpayers is what health care reform is all
about.

1. Did you lose your job prior to this year? If so don't blame the guy who's held the position for 10 months but look a little further back to place blame.

2. Which president started his administration with a balanced budget and projected surplusses for years to come only to leave office with a multi-billion dollar deficit, 2 unpopular wars, an economy in a deep recession, and a financial sector on the verge of collapse?

Nuff said!

Illegal immigrants:

Make it easy: if you cannot prove citizenship, refuse care -
overturn the Supreme Court''s dumb decision that care
cannot be refused.

American taxpayers have been paying for illegals, and we need
to stop. Why are we paying for their medical care (emergency
rooms), education, food, housing, etc.

If they are illegal they get zero and should be sent back without
delay.

We are tired of providing hand-outs to people who are violating
our laws.

To the “christian” cons that say their version of “family values” is the only acceptable form of family values.

So, taken from your Holy Book of Fables, we started with the story of Adam and Eve who were to “go forth and multiply“. They had 2 sons Cain and Able. Now, given these logistics of 3 men and 1 woman, it would appear that your version of “family values” would include incest with mom! Oh, but then some of you believe that Adam and Eve had daughters as well, and therefore that explains the ability to procreate and multiply.

So, to be clear, diddling one’s sister is a better form of incest than diddling one’s mom?

After all it is the "word of god" right?

Next time we will discuss that whole brother killing brother that is detailed so vividly in your Book of Fable’s version of “family values” .

With unemployment spiking at 10.2%, they should FIRST be concerned about creating jobs, not sticking us with ill-conceived health care "reform" that ends up costing working folks hundreds of dollars a year.

Once the economy is back on track, THEN pass health care reform which includes tort reform!

Unemployment is not issue, we just need to add a third shift to the federal reserve building so they can run the printing machines 24 hours a day 7 days a week, there will be PLENTY of money to go around. Why not bring the $1000 bill back, we'll need it in a few months to buy a loaf of bread...

robrubin   November 6th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Just so funny how most of the teabaggers are older Americans that are probably getting Medicare and Social Security benefits at the same time they are calling the Democrats socialists.

It is that level of ignorance and the unwillingness to give up valuable insurance lobby cash that causes us to have the 37th best health care in the world – behind countries like Costa Rica and Morocco.

Recently, Canada's chief health person wanted to change Canada's national health plan into privatized insurance like we have here. However, over 90% of Canadians rejected it and wanted nothing to do with American style health insurance. What does that tell you? We have tens of millions of people here that want public health insurance yet you NEVER here Canada and European countries demanding American style insurance.

We need to vote out every Republican who has taken big $$$ from the insurance lobby – Democrats too (eh hem Max Baucus). That is the only way Congress can truly give us the reform we need.

We are tired of watching wackjobs like Michelle Bachmann, Eric Cantor, and Dick Armey supporting pure hate and racism. They were sent to Congress to help the American people not divide them.

The House bill LOWERS defecits and provides coverage to 96% of Americans. ONLY the uninsured would be allowed to have the public option. What is so wrong with that? How is that "the greatest threat to freedom" as John Boehner says. I will tell you, the Patriot Act signed by GW Bush was 10x more of a threat to freedom that this health care bill.

hobart   November 6th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Let's see, some may conservative pundits, politicians, corporate sponsors and posters here say we're in economic collapse because of Obama's spending. Nope. We' were in economic collapse because of Bush's spending on the war in Iraq, which we went to under deliberately false pretenses, and on good old fashioned Republican policies on the financial sector and their ridiculous risk taking. Since Obama's supposedly wreckless spending, aka stimulus 2 (stimulus 1 being Bush's package), the markets have recovered by over 50%, the rates of job losses have been slashed, and the economy is getting back on its feet. Funny how when Republicans turn a budget surplus into a massive national debt to fund a needless and stupid war, they don't care one iota about "wreckless spending," but when Democrats spend money to make money, to clean up after the Republican mess, then suddenly Republicans cannot stomach debts and deficits.

As to health care, every western democracy (i.e. all our allies) but us have a public option or public component to their country's health care systems, and these partial or total public health care systems are sacred cows totally endorsed by the entire breadth of the political spectrum, conservative to liberal, in those countries. Funny how conservatives want those countries as allies when is suits them (e.g. in times of war, or times of leveraging economic sanctions against Iran or N Korea), but we demonize them as hippy/commie./socialist/feminazis as soon as we point out that their health care systems are better than ours and cost less than ours, or that their students are smarter than ours.

Why do Republicans hate America?

John D.   November 6th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Has anyone noticed that we are back up to 46 million uninsured americans. They just cannot make up their minds what number they want to put out there. I'm sure none of this number are illegal aliens. The Democrats wouldn't do that. Would they?

How are the Republicans hold back anything? The Dems have a majority – they can call for the vote any time they like. So the problem must be that even the Democrats are rejecting the bill. Open your eyes people – stop blaming every problem on Bush and Co.

Lisa P   November 6th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

If anyone knows about pushing the country into an economic abyss it would be the Republicans.

Unlike tax cuts for the wealthy, bank deregulation and trumped-up wars, health care reform will actually help most Americans where it counts - in the pocketbook. Less money on health care costs and insurance premiums means more money to spend on other products and services. Think of it as a trickle-up program to counter years and years of trickle-down failure.

southerncousin   November 6th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Is Pelosi looking for more money to steal from the hard working taxpayers of America? Please pass this atrocity soon, so that we can get rid of the liberals. Once America realizes they have been hoodwinked again by this congress (stimulus?), the libs will be out of office for decades and then "Obama one and done."

Anyone read this thing   November 6th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Has anyone actually read this 1900 page bill? There is so much heated debate on this someone must know what is really in the bill. All I hear is what others want me to think whats in the bill.

Does anyone know what the details of the public option are? Who will get it? Is the Federal goverment going compete with private industry? Is everyone going to be forced to take some form of medical insurance? Does a company now have the right to not give health coverage anymore? There are so many more questions I can think of, guess I will keep looking for the bill to read myself

Unless someone has seen the bill do we even really know whats in it and how it will effect everyday Americans

marty   November 6th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

It's a given...the majority of the Americans want health care reform with a public option and single payer system. Note the government officials who are against the bill now being proposed..they all have a public option with full complements and health amenities for the rest of their lives.....at taxpayer expense!! The scrutiny over health care reform for all citizens is remarkable. The anti-reformers are simply putting money, the greenback, ahead of the needs of healthy, thriving, countrymen and countrywomen. A scrutiny that was totally absent when the U.S. decided to invade Iraq. Question: if a family member of Congress quietly sought an abortion, would their current insurance cover expenses?

mark   November 6th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Americans spoke on Tuesday. No public option!

Mark, Bham   November 6th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

Maybe it will be delayed long enough to relize America does not want the public option since it will be the foot in the door for a single payer universal helath care system. I spent most of my life in one as a dependent and on active duty Navy. When care got expensive, instead of allocating more money they cut personel and quality of care which have both taken a hit, especially with the HMO system the Clinton Administration forced us into..

Doesn't anyone realize this is just anoth Democratic Entitlement Program that this country does not need. We do not need the Government running our Healthcare System. To GI joe I say wake up. Look at history and remember what it was to have politicians involved. The red tape and beauracracy. Stop the waste and fraud in medicare/medicaid for a huge savings. Let small bussinesses ban together to buy insurance across state lines. Tort Reform. These are real actions that can be taken to save our current system. The money saved would insure the legal citizens of this country including the ones with pre-existing conditions. Just throwing money at the problem is not the answer.

Henry Miller, Libertarian   November 6th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

@Dawn: "....are you telling me that Canada, Australia, the UK and France are so much more advanced than the US that we can't even get health insurance reform to pass in this country?"

In what sense is it an "advance" to waste a trillion bucks on paying the medical bills of welfare bums who can be bothered to take responsibility for themselves?

If you like Canada, Australia, the UK and France so much, you're welcome to leave. I've spent significant time in all four countries, and liked them. (If I had to choose, I'd say Melbourne, Australia, would be my first choice, among those places, to live, possibly followed by Montpelier, France.)

The down-side of course, is that taxes in all four of those countries are outrageous, and it seems that there are a lot of Canadians who come to the US for its better health care.

The facts are that we are broke. The current admin only wants to control u. The real reform in health care is in reforming tort cases, offering choice and eliminating pre-existing conditions. And yes Medicare is just another form of entitlement nothing more. Americans take responsibility for your VOTE and yourself. What do we need government to tell us not to eat cake. 10.2% UNEMPLOYMENT! 10.2% UNEMPLOYMENT! The Democrats have controlled Congress for THREE YEARS, and Obama the White House for 10 Months and all we've had was a near trillion dollar corrupt spending bill that filled the pockets of the special interests and trillions upon trillions in corrupt spending, debt, and printed money. The result? 10.2% UNEMPLOYMENT and still shooting up. What are Obama and the Democrats doing about it? NOTHING! They're too busy trying to cram another Massive, Multi-Trillion dollar Government Takeover of Healthcare down our throats. A program that will hit the economy like a million ton of bricks and shoot UNEMPLOYMENT up to 20%. They don't even seem to CARE? Sounds to me like the dems aren't as united as some would like you to believe, unless you are talking about pointing fingers of blame. If you have the majority, and, as in the case of the senate, a filibuster proof majority, take ownership of your stupidity Democrats and ram this legislation down the throats of America and it's citizens. Then, sign up for the exact same healthcare you are trying to mandate is good for all Americans. I doubt that anyone in either house will be rushing to sign up for any of this.

I think you are all forgetting who got us into this mess. This did not start on 1/20/09.

Who was in charge for the last eight years REPUBLICANS! But the Republicans won't take the blame for any of this mess; instead they want to give us more of what they gave us for the last 8 years.

I for one would pay more in taxes; give up some of my income to make sure that everyone in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA could go to the doctor and get good health care.

From reading the blogs above, most of you are from the group of people in this generation that think of nobody but yourself (you are the ME generation) stop thinking of just yourself for once in your life.

You are blaming an administration that has been in the office for only 10 months and you think that Mr. Obama can fix everything the Republicans screwed up in a blink of an eye. GET REAL all this undoing what the REPUBLICANS did to make this mess is going to take awhile.

If I had a Trillion Dollars I would make sure that any congressman or senator that voted against the Health Bill and Climate Change Bill be voted out of office.

If you are unemployed then you need to go to work for any job that you can get, even if it is in food service or picking fruit or vegitables. Most of you think you are to good to work for less than you have previously worked for. Guess what, you are not any better than the next person and if you really wanted to help then you would stop whining and get off you butt and get busy trying to do your best.

If you really wanted to do something great then you would work toward paying off all credit cards (so the people on Wall Street will not get anymore of your money) Stop charging! Get the picture.

Are they planning to cancel the program in 2019?

File under "Sarcasm"   November 6th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

They better think about delaying it if they value their jobs. Unemployment has reached 10.2% and they want to pass a $1 trillion plus healthcare package that will kill jobs rather than create them. ron   November 6th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

For all the uninformed, our nation's military budget for 2010 is over $500 billion. Over ten years thats $5 trillion. I think if we can afford $5 trillion for protecting American interests around the world we can afford 1/5 of that for healthcare for our citizens here at home.

Another stupid point from an uneducated lib. We, those of us who work, pay into that system every week. We, those who work, don't want to pay more for others to have "free heatlthcare". So your point is not only stupid it shows you have no clue what is really going on. Government is not supposed to be demanding anything of the citizens. Even if this nightmare somehow gets passed, it will be shot down as it is unconstitutional. That's assuming it doesnt get repealed before being overturned. 2010 and 2012 will be a lib bloodbath at the polls. Americans do not want socialism and we definitely don't want the party of NO..CLUE (dems) to spend us into obilvion. Judegment time is coming. This bill has no chance to pass the Senate anyway, so I am hoping it gets filibustered to death. Then maybe we can address the REAL problem in some 100 page bills that take on one problem at a time. Sam Rayburn and Lyndon Johnson would have passed the health bill, the cap and trade bill, and many other bills by this time. We can only hope that destiny will bring us the leadership we need in Congress. An ancient Greek philosopher wrote that all democracies contain within them the seeds of their own destruction, because, eventually, the least productive will vote for gov't to take from the more productive and give to the least productive what they couldn't earn from their own labors. This will result in civil strife and poverty, because any gov't that exalts and elevates the least productive over the more productive is bound for oblivion.

Jenn, Philadelphia   November 6th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

The reason for the rush to vote is that Democrat leaders believe if House members have time to consider the bill, they'll find issues with it. It's 1,990 pages long. If any one who doesn't take the time to read it and "consider" it properly votes yes, they should be voted out of office. It is not their job to rubber stamp leadership's plans. They work for us.

Rational SOLUTIONS   November 6th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

If they took this 1.2 TRILLION and immediately spent it on PRIVATE SECTOR job creation we would drop back to a healthy 3 to 4% unemployment and most Americans would be able to afford their OWN health insurance. Ahhh... but there's the rub. This isn't about insuring us, it's about controlling us. Give people the ability to work and those who WANT insurance will buy insurance.

It is NOT the role of gevernments to force people to purchase something they don't want! I can't believe you liberals... you act like this is some generous handout from the fed. The truth is, you WILL BE PAYING PREMIUMS that most of you can't afford! The government option will be almost as expensive as private plans because this legislation does NOTHING to reduce costs!!! It does the exact opposite actually. Those that don't want to work of course will get to benefit from the hard work of us taxpayers because (just as with all welfare programs) they are designed to encourage being lazy. If you work a little or a lot... you get nothing... if you stop working... you get everything for free. Shame on ANY of you who support this bogus bill!

@headless, I have a better deal for you, since you want this Pelosi health bill so bad why dont you put your money where your mouth is and be the do-gooder that all you Libs proclaim to be and sponsor a family and pay their health insurance or are you just one that wants another freebie from the Govt so you don't have to earn it!

I find it interesting that they are blaming the delay on the GOP, why dont you tell the truth and state it is within the Democratic party itself. Ms. Pelosi trys to run her own country here. I hope she fails!!!

Conserva-Baggers are bad for America   November 6th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

Oh give me a break! I am so sick of the Party of Blockage I could just scream out loud, but I won't because I'm work. That's right you conservative, un-American, short-sighted, narrow-minded bigots who love to scream about how YOUR tax dollars are going to have to pay for health insurance for people who are "too lazy to work"! I'm a Progressive, with a darn good-paying job and I have excellant employer provided health insurance, but I STILL support health insurance reform with a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION. Why, you might ask???? Because I am a patriotic American, that's why! I understand that our country needs a HEALTHY populace in order to be viable in the world. So you can all shove your blocking and stalling tactics right up your collective keisters! WE WILL NOT GIVE UP AND WE WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!

Ben   November 6th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

Delayed due to "Republican delay tatics!!!" Does anyone believe this?!?! Why do Dems continue to blame the GOP for EVERY ill?? The GOP has no power in Congress now (and hasn't since 2006), and this delay is due ENTIRELY to the infighting democrats.

Fired up yet?   November 6th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

To headless. In addition to being headless, you must be brainless as well. Anyone who works or who has worked pays into this government-run program. We have no choice. Medicare taxes are government mandated. This reform will not take that away. We will still pay Medicare taxes and pay for health care reform as well. I would be more than happy to take myself and my parents out of Medicare, if the government would stop taking taxes for this out of my paycheck. You may be willing to pay taxes to Medicare your entire working life, and then at age 65 chose not to enroll, but I am not. I paid for it and I will use it. This government-run program, Medicare, is a joke, and I find it difficult to believe that the Pelosi bill will be run any differently. Medicare is taxpayer paid government health care. Do you honestly believe that the Pelosi bill will not be supported by government-mandated taxes?

Wade   November 6th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

No public option.

What many of you pro-public option kool-aid drinkers don't realize is 90% or more of you won't even qualify for it based on the current language in both the House and Senate versions.
But the feds will surely tax you into oblivion to cover the costs.

READ THE BILLS BEFORE YOU BLINDLY FOLLOW THEM.

We need to reform the health care industry... not try and take it over.

fools and their freedoms are soon parted   November 6th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

It is against many religions to support the murder of unborn children...if it is against the "sep of church and state" for the government to oppose abortion, then it would also be against the "seperation of church and state" to not only promote abortion as health care and also make people violate their religious beliefs by having to pay for abortion
Illegal immigrants shold be rounded up and deported.PERIOD. No welfare. No health care. No education. NOTHING. Obama knows that current court cases have allowed illegals in two states to recieve benefits and as this has become precedent, he is either a liar or a poor attorney not to know that it will be a matter of time before they will have to be covered. Further as a lawyer who specializes in Con Law he knows this health care plan is a clear violation of the 11th Ammendment.

Beck   November 6th, 2009 1:41 pm ET

Please think about this rationally – not politically. There is absolutely no way the country can support this financially. Especially if you do away with pre-existing conditions. I have a so-called cadillac plan. If a public option is rolled out, I'm outta here – I will gladly pay the $75 monthly fine for not having insurance until I need services, then sign up for insurance for a month or two, until services aren't needed, then go back to paying my $75 "fine". All insurances have pre-existing conditions. Have a car accident, watch your rates rise or be canceled/denied. Burn your house down, watch your rates rise or be canceled/denied. Not having a pre-existing conditions exemption is like buying car insurance after the accident to pay for the accident or buying life insurance on someone after they die. THINK.

PR   November 6th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Barbara -   November 6th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

To single mom.... the question "are you a U.S. citizen" was NEVER on the 2010 census form!!!! It has been suggested by a Republican lately well AFTER the census forms have been printed.

\As well, the question accomplishes nothing since there are millions of green card holders who are in the country legally, most residents for many many years, and are not citizens.

NC   November 6th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

To GI Joe: you are correct. My husband and I are Independents. We will not vote for any Republican that votes against HCR from this state.

Terry from West Texas   November 6th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

I support the health bill, the cap-and-trade bill, and other efforts by this Administration to solve the nation's problems.

I am shocked by the Republican opposition to any and every action by any and every Democrat just for the sake of regaining political power. Republicans are deliberately trying to make the middle and lower classes suffer to increase public impatience with Obama.

Republicans (meaning Conservatives) are not the loyal opposition. They are the disloyal opposition: they oppose any effort to make life better for ordinary Americans and they ridicule our democratic institutions. They ridicule the President, the Congress (this from Senators who were elected 20 years ago), the courts, and the "government" (whatever that is).

Conservatism is not legally treason, but Conservatives have done far more damage to this country and cost more American lives than Islamic terrorism has. I'm not speaking of the gullible and deluded Republican voters; I am referring to the leadership that is making fools of them.

Dan   November 6th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

anyone voting for this 1900-page monstrosity needs to be removed from office. The bill is a power play, it is NOT about insuring US citizens AT ALL–it is about adding more debt to us, our children and our children's children–ad infinitum!

The view south from the country directly above you, (Canada – you know, that supposed socialist country) is very scary.

Don't you see that the opposition to health care reform is obvious? It took me just minutes to get a complete list of those Senators who are on the "payroll" with campaign funds from the health industry. Check it out yourself- google "health industry throws cash at Senators". – Newsweek.com. That might put their agenda in the right light for you.

I realize that the U.S. is not my country, and you could right say that it a way it's not my business, however, we share more than a border – we share hopes, dreams, and economical ties that are historical. Sure times are tough, but could have been so much worsed, It is my feeling that those goals are within reach with patience and respect.

I have to say that I, and most of my countrymen, are totally DISGUSTED at the way the truth is being not only bent, but totally tied into a pretzel, by those against your President, no matter how hard he tries. Silly Sarah Teabag, and all the other naysayers are just not honest.

I cringe when I hear the way some on the posters refer to PRESIDENT Obama....radical leftist, obozo, moron-in-chief, liar-in-chief, joker, obummer, oblahblah, teleprompter-in-chief, obumles, obama bin lyin, fraud-in-chief, messiah, clunker, usurper, empty suit, fascist, socialist, communist, muslim-in-chief, etc., etc., (all those from just one day's posts).

The payoff was a post this morning, after the Fort Hood tragedy, saying that President Obama is "infiltrating the military with enemies". Wow... just wow... – To the uninformed, the alleged perp has been in the military for 12 years!!!!!.... President Obama hasn't been in office 12 MONTHS! How in the world can anyone make this statement?

You all have my prayers!!!

Independent Voter   November 6th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

I definitely think we need health care reform! But the gov't taking over is not always the answer to everything. Take on one issue at a time..pre-existing conditions...fix that problem then move to the next.

Those that are demanding a public option be done immediately or else are just as idiotic as those people who say no to health care reform at all.

(just a thought...some people can afford health care if they...maybe you should get off the internet, sell your computer, get rid of your cell phone, cut off your cable, quit buying the beer and cigarettes, or go to the emergency room for care...they CAN'T deny anyone) just a thought....but thats silly talk...give it to me FREE!!

Oh yeah, they abandoned that long-before before Obama was sworn in.

Does anyone else feel that Congress is run by a bunch on insincere, inept morons?

Brian from NJ   November 6th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Funny how you need to "read more of the story" to see that it is not the Republicans stopping this but "Pro-Life" Democrats (nice try with the play on words by calling them "Anti-Abortion"...)

Pelosi should start practicing how to hand over the gavel because, barring a miraculous recovery in the employment situation, either a Republican or another Democrat will become Speaker next year.

Joe   November 6th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

How about investing that 1 trillion into jobs...?

Kim   November 6th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

In addition, the bill would preempt state and local laws that conflict with or are in addition to new federal standards established by the bill. Those preemptions would limit the application of state and local laws, but CBO estimates that they would not impose significant costs.

As conditions of federal assistance (and thus not mandates as defined in UMRA), the bill also would require state and local governments to offer health insurance to their employees and would require “maintenance of effort” payments associated with high-risk pools. New requirements in the Medicaid program also would result in an increase in state spending.

page 9 of the CBO estimate

Can you say unconsitutional?

The Tea Party, I believe is not against health care reform, but rather the cost of this reform to the American people. I live in Maryland. The lowest health care package here is $510.00 a month, and this is for an individual, not a family. This is government-run state insurance for those who cannot get insurance otherwise. If you agree with Pelosi's bill, why aren't you asking her, what it is going to cost you each month to have this insurance? If you did, and if you got an answer, I bet you would be surprised.

To Michael above. Really, "sit down and shut up." That is or should be the Democratic Party slogan, because that is exactly what Pelosi wants. If Pelosi and this WH have nothing to hide and if they are not lying to us, why is everything they are doing on this health care bill being done behind closed doors. Okay they don't want the Republicans in there, but what did we, the American people do to them? Don't we have an absolute right to be there? This woman's only agenda is to attempt to put the American people in their place. She is more interested in the "power" that she yields, not us. Health care is a good thing, but not Pelosi's way.

Idiot_Pelosi   November 6th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

This is nothing but a SOCIALIST bill. Those who are responsible and are working (or have worked) hard had to pay more in TAXES and premiums to pay for others.

This is nothing but a liberal bunch of crap where we are all supposed to pay for other's healthcare, including abortions, including illegals.

I've got a great idea after reading some of the pro-HC comments here, you want it, you pay for it!!!! We'll increase YOUR TAXES and YOUR FEES to pay for all of this.

And you are just jealous of the TEA PARTY protestors because they want to keep their money. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

The people who are anti- public option are encouraging more abortions by refusing ob/gyn care for these women without coverage. You can't be anti-public option and anti-abortion or its spending simultaneously.

You are showing your ignorance. No pregnant woman in this country is denied OB coverage. Any public hospital in this country will give you monthly visits and a mid wife for delivery if you have no complications, and an OB if you do. That is a fact. I have had two friends who didn't have insurance and got all the same tests that I did. One delivered with a OB, the other with a mid wife.

Our healthcare system is in need of reform, but stop making it sound like pregnant woman are not receiving care. If they are not getting care, they are choosing not to.

"Party leaders fear if House members are given more time to consider bill new issues could arise"

So they do not want members to read this bill before they vote, just vote on it. That type of thinking makes me think they are hiding things in this bill since it will not be posted and most members will not have to read 1900 plus pages. I agree something needs to be done to fix the health care issue, but not like this, not 1900 pages that no one has read, not adding $1T to the budget, not increaseing taxes, and not being forced on us like this. Take time to fix the issues. study where the problems are and work with the health care sector to develop solutions to the problems.

I am sure most members on the Hill do not fully understand health care and they are not the ones that should force a fix.

Jack Fl   November 6th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

What is this? Some Dems have concerns about a bill and the leadership is taking time to address those concerns. Is there something to take note of here? There really is a difference in Dems and Repubs other than their respective platforms.

how much would you want to bet that half of these republicans calling for tort reform don't know what a tort is or what tort reform would do? Placing a cap on how much a person can receive in a lawsuit against a doctor will not lower our health insurance premiums. it may, however, lower the premiums doctors and other medical professionals must pay for their malpractice insurance.

Get a clue people, Glenn Beck and all those over at Fox are lying to you. A public option is just what it sounds like an OPTION. Kind of like you can send your package via the government run postal service or you can send it UPS or you can drink your tap water or buy the bottled water. This is not rocket Science.

NYCitizen   November 6th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

We know Medicare/Medicaid is affected in this bill, but my question is How will this affect Workers Compensation, if at all? I believe that we would have more competent doctors accepting Medicare/Medicaid and Workers Compensation if they would pay more out to the doctors and let them practice medicine when and where needed. I also believe tort reform is an essential part of health care reform. I believe that it is us working class stiffs that are going to foot the bill...you don't get anything for nothing. Where else is this trillion or so going to come from? China? I don't think so!

The problem with anonymous postings is we have no idea how many are by 10-year-olds.

Trang   November 6th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Times are tough. I am fine either way. We can reform with the understanding that it will costs us in exchange for a nation that has health care for everyone of its citizens. An ideal that would be good to live up to and feel good about ourselves. On the other hand, we are so cash strapped, and if we scrap this, we also have to say no to those who don't have health insurance. It's mean, but it also saves the country money. But the way it is now, it's just irresponsible – we continue to treat, but unwilling to pay, and keep this country in further debt. It's just like a country running on credit cards. So, what kind of a country is this? What makes this more frustrating is insurance companies having obscene profits. It's one thing when they don't cover us because they can't afford to, It's another thing when they have obscene profits from our premiums, then when things get tough, they turn us down.

The issue about govt funded abortions in this bill are crazy. You have all of these people who don't want it in there, but republicans refuse to negotiate. They have NO plans to vote for this regardless of whether the part about abortions and illegal immigrants is included. And that's why it's still in the bill.

Tex   November 6th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Again I see many people in here opposed to their own best interests. Not even shocking anymore to me. These same people also think they're somehow 'enlightened' by thinking that politicians who support it will 'suffer' in the 2010 elections over a policy that 60%+ of the US population supports. Real smart.

This article ment a lot to me because im one of the few people that needs health care. So, I do hope that Sunday the House of Representative will continue with getting the health care bill together. This article continues talks about requirements for immigrants to verify their citizenship and stoping abortions before buying health insurance. But Sharp says differences among Democrats over abortion and immigration have raised questions over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi currently has the 218-vote majority needed for passage of the bill. So the Democatics hope that on Sunday the 218 votes can get the bill passed.

Kevin in Ohio   November 6th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

The true story is probably that Nancy does NOT have the votes to ram this through an down our throats). This bill is a TRAVESTY, and will cause ireperable economic harm. Left-wingers just seem to think that 1 trillion dollars grows on trees...... "Obama-money".

Tim   November 6th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

To BMW Have you ever ran a business?? Obviously not because your rationale is about as moronic a statement as I have ever heard!! First of all no business is going to hire employees because they would save $500.00 a month on health insurance by having a single payer system paid for by the Gov't when the net affect of hiring someone including matching Soc. Sec. and Medicaid, unemployment (futa), salary, corporate tax rate of 38% etc....is ridiculous. Actually laughable lol lol Did you ever stop to think that NOTHING IS FREE??? A govt run healthcare will cost us (including you if you work??) taxes far beyond what we are currently paying which is ridiculous in itself already. MOre and more companies are going to leave for overseas because we are making the burden of owning a business useless, why am I working 14-16 hours a day so you or some one else doesn't have to work for a living?? Better yet anyone whose household doesn't pay any tax shouldn't be allowed to vote to raise someone else's taxes!!!! Wake up America before your entitlement mentality will bankrupt us!!

I thought they had added language to keep illegals from getting health insurance under the Government option?but it is not in the bill
---------–
That is in the bill. The current debate is about whether illegal aliens should be banned from buying insurance with money out of their own pockets. If they are banned, it virtually guarantees that illegal aliens only choice for health care will be the emergency rooms. I'm not saying illegal aliens belong in the US but preventing them from buying their own insurance is not a good approach.

Mike   November 6th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

I would like to see the comparison of the Republican spending versus the current administrations spending. Don't forget who got us into this mess with these wasteful wars and corporate corruption. It's so ironic that Republicans are all the sudden concerned with spending. What a joke!

ArchNeoCon   November 6th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

The Democrats bill is by no means perfect. But the Republicans are stonewalling trying to bide time in hopes that they can reclaim seats next election and try to get back into the majority. Plain and simple.

While some of the reforms the Republicans want are warrented, if things are done their way (be it the status quo or all of their reforms) the outcome will pale in comparison to what the Democrats bill would produce.

Uncontrolled, free-market capitalism DOES NOT WORK EFFICIENTLY IN THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY. The fairy tale perfect world that is created by the "invisible hand" of the free-market that the Republicans preach only exists in economic text books. And even if the text book examples existed, economic theory dictates that competition would completely drive out profits for companies. We all know the Republicans don't want this. (I don't want it either by the way).

GI Joe   November 6th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

The Independents I know are already planning to vote against anyone who opposes this bill.

I know 2 repulicans in this state that will be in the same position as Libby Dole next year !!

She did nothing – they do nothing.

Mike1952   November 6th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

What shame! Trying to force this on the American people. How did this grandma from Mars ever rise to this position? Her radical views are so far out of the mainstream it's ridiculous. Better back up and re-do this monstrosity with a little common sense. The conservatives have a far better starting point for this. Pelosi's will bankrupt America and then we'll all have nothing. Health care included.

How will "Baghdad Bob" Gibbs propagandise the unemployment numbers. BO fiddles while America burns. Just pitiful. Failure on all fronts.

Headless   November 6th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

I have deal for ya. If you dont like healthcare reform then please either you or your parents or both, remove yourself from medicare.

Eric in Denver   November 6th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Is this really a surprise. We are in an economic collapse because of Barack and his crazy spending and now we want to kill 18% of the economy? This bill is a complete sham. People will be taxed that don't have insurance, small businesses will be taxed, insurance companies will be taxed, and the people that have cadillac plans paid by their employer will be taxed. Why take money out of people's pockets when it is tough enough to pay day to day bills. The employees of the greedy insurance industry(2% profit margin to all you geniuses out there) will lose there jobs as well as millions of people connected to this industry. If the so called blue dogs want to lose next year please vote for this bill because that will put the icing on the cake of your short stint in the congress. Miss Pelosi doesn't care about you or anybody except the crazy people in her district that vote for her.

G.Kazmier   November 6th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

I am a believer in fixing what is broke, not redoing the entire system of health care under government rule in a bill that was written by groups who do not have our best interests in mind.

Most Americans do not want a socialist run health care plan, nor do they want government take-over of every aspect of their life, nor do they need leaders who are not looking out for their best interests. Be careful who you vote for next election. Do you research on the politicians and who they associate with. You may be voting for someone who want WORLD GOVERNMENT!!!!!!! Not in America's best interest is it?

Wake up America before you find yourself living the "Communist Dream" that some politicians have in mind for us all.

Zach K   November 6th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Democrats will be more likable if this passes. The public approves of this approach for a public option. Don't delay it, because of the GOP's political backlash. PASS IT. DO IT NOW.

Sam Sixpack   November 6th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

They're coming to the place where they (Pelosi & Co.) will slip in the last minute language that nobody gets to see until after the vote. Then they will claim they don't know how it happened.

Jim   November 6th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

I'm amused at how the Republicans are warning of this causing us to go into an abyss. Doesn't anyone remember that just a year ago we were in an abyss that they caused? We're still climbing out of that. I don't think we should be taking economic advice from anyone in the Republican party as they have a long losing track record.

Proud to be a Liberal American   November 6th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

When will the GOP learn patriotism?

Sarah   November 6th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Rep. Ben Chandler best stand with his party on this vote; if he does not, he may as well run for re-election as a Republican next time out.

Can I have the same health insurance they get? (they=liers=politicians) Or better yet lets make them use what they want to give to us and then see how fast they fix it to run the correct way.

1 Trillion more spending (1,000,000,000,000-–) I don't know how many zeroes there is in a trillion. Our family simply lost our savings because of unemployment. Wow! the government must be soooo rich to spend this much money. 7.3 milions unemployed with 5 millions in >6 months unemployment and a rate of 10.2% and is going up higher this winter. Can Obama's administration slow down spending the money of this country which comes from poor citizens of this country (which has no voices compared to Pelosi and Reid and Obama). Enough! Enough! You promist to sign the stimulus quick without reading because of job unemployment problem. How can I trust you with the Trilion when you can't even manage the Billions? God forgive the Democrats who brings us in to too much debt - I thought they'd be better than previous administration. But even worst spendind and borrowing money. Our future and our freedom to live a good and healthy life is over if this type of liberal government continues.

Kat   November 6th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Hey idiots in Washington... We don't want your plan. Times are bad enough already. Scrap it and come up with a better, less expensive plan. Get the message. This will only make unemployment go higher. As a small business owner, we would be forced to cut our staff. Pelosi, maybe you should consider having a little botox added to your brain, If you have one.

chas   November 6th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

This bill is garbage on many levels. What is largely missed however, is the devastating impact on samll business and ultimate impact on our economy. Tens of thousands of businesses will go under, given the absurd "employer mandate" that is in the bill. When those businesses fail, those jobs will disappear. As is the usual style for the democrats, they fail to adequately analyze a problem or the consequences of their actions.

Put the brakes on this current monstrosity and start over DC!

A concern citizen   November 6th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

WeThePeopleofVirginia   November 6th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Congress would be wise to start this process over again with a more reasonable approach that simply:

1. Permits insurance company's to sell nationwide.
2. Bars any pre-existing conditions.
3. Addresses tort reform.
4. Allows voluntary participation.

Kill the Bill in its Current Form . . . 1,900+ pages

How Ridiculous Can Congress Get?

Danny   November 6th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Of course the Republicans have said that about every minimum wage bump, environmental regulation, tax increase, and government program that helps anyone other than the super wealthy for decades. An ecomomic abyss? What are we in now? It seems that the huge tax decrease on the top 10% of income earners, the repeal of or exemption from most environmental laws, and almost total deregulation of businesses hasn't lad to the humongous income and job creation gains that were promised by the GOP, so their predictions are kind of suspect.

Henry Miller, Libertarian   November 6th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Voting for this immense waste of money would be just a little shy of criminally irresponsible, if only because the country just can't afford it.

bmw   November 6th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

Democratic leaders should be stressing that a Public Option health insurance plan will likely reduce unemployment because employers will be more willing to start hiring again if they don't have to pay for employee health insurance. Employers also won't have to worry about hiring people with pre-existing conditions whose premiums would be higher.

Gene   November 6th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

Speaker Pelosi,

Dominican mama 4 Obama   November 6th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

It is only fair and reasonable that ILLEGAL immigrants NOT benefit from a gov't subsidized insurance plan. They should however feel free to purchase insurance from ANY insurance provider, as they have been doing under the radar for decades. The gov't option is just that: on option to purchase insurance from another source that due to the number of participants, and gov't subsidies would be able to offer lower premiums. I think that anyone that is hereILLEGALLY from China, Europe, Africa, Canada or Latin countries would agree with this. The Hispanic Caucus is not Amnesty International, it should be concerning itself with the causes of immigrants who are here legally.

It's not about the Republicans and the Dems. It's about a country that is broke and hurting. They've cost us our jobs, homes and retirement.

It couldn't be more obvious that this is all about power. If it wasn't they wouldn't continue to break promises to hold hearings and let the American people know what's in the bill.

Our government has gone totally mad. And we're supposed to trust them?

Not on your life.

JP   November 6th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Why is that every version of every bill puts the interests of the trial lawyers 1st and the citizens last. How much less would the cost of this bill be because there is no tort reform. What is the real cost of the bill to taxpayers when all the illegals are made legal under Obama's promise of "a path to citizenship."

all the news that's fit to omit   November 6th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Republicans are not stalling anything, THEY CAN'T.

This is a group of GOOD Democrats like Stupak and 40 others who are not happy that Pelousy and Obambi LIED about abortion being in the bill.

THIS has been going on for weeks, but CNN and the others are busy with phony Palin stories to report REAL news, who is the phony news organization Barry?

They also LIED about illegals getting help in this bill as well.

What did the Republicans do here?, they had the audacity to REPORT the unemployment numbers going well over 10 %, another LIE from Obambi as he said they wouldn't go over 8 if porkulus was passed.

Nice job Obambi yesterday giving "shot outs" to his peeps before making any comment on my fellow veterans 2 MINUTES INTO the Press conference who were killed, what a disgrace.

Marcel   November 6th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

One way or the other, Democrats need to approve the bill. They should accept Ellsworth language. So what if immigrants use their own money to buy insurance? They would be contributing to the economy.

Texas Doc   November 6th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Patrick   November 6th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Once again, the issue of illegal immigration rears its ugly head. This is one of the hold over issues from the Bush administration that was handled poorly. Couple of points to consider – this problem goes away when you find & deport illegal aliens immediately; remove the anchor baby problem like Britian – if you're here illegally – your anchor baby gets thrown back over the fence with you. With unemployment over 10% – send 'em back & keep 'em out unless they immigrate legally. In addition – only immigrants that have the necessary & needed job skills shoudl be allowed to immigrate in the first place – we're slowly starting to resembe a banana republic or 3rd world nation

The republicans would vote down health care for their own mothers. they don't care about the public, but only their own well being. Let everyone have the same health care that the Senators have. God we couldn't do that! Give health care to the low life!! Shame on anyone related to a republican!!

seebofubar   November 6th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Americans don't want this bill, some sort of healthcare reform is absolutly necessary but not this. Part of this bill relies on the governments ability to clean up medicare fraud. Let's see if they can do that first before proceeding with any other reform.

katiec   November 6th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

I cannot understand or accept anyone who does not realize or admit we desperately need Health Care Reform.
CNN refused to post the CBO's (a non partisan group) report on the republicans Health care plan. It is a diaster, insuring very few and allowing the insurance companies to continue on with business as usual.
Our great country cannot allow the continuation of so many dying because they cannot afford health coverage, the thousands upon thousands who have to file bankruptcy due to medical costs and the irresponsible, unethical actions of big business.
Doesn't it make you wonder why the health care entities are spending billions in campaigning against health care reform??
Because they want to continue the raping of the American people.

chubby   November 6th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

nobama may twist their arms but the voters will send them back home. Those considering voting for the health care takeover would be best served, considering which is worse, an angry nobama or their angry voters.

It really does seem like Pelosi has no clue. How many times is she going to say she has the votes and then postpone because she doesn't??? Maybe if this was a good bill it wouldn't be a problem, but it is a terrible bill, way too much money for very little. This is quickly becoming a joke and just grows by the day. In the end, PelosiCare has no chance getting thru the Senate, so why not do something that will help us Americans and stop trying to pave the road to big government and socialism. Listen to the American people, stop with this trash. I back the GOP proposal, atleast they are attacking the real problems tort reform and increased compettion among health insurance providers. 2000 pages, no one has read let alone comprehended and this moron wants a vote ASAP???? Common sense says dump the bill and her ASAP.

Just say NO to OBAMASCARE! {read that "Obama-Scare!" if you like, because every thing this maniac is doing SCARES me and most independent-minded American citizens [with "citizens" emphasized!]
* We don't need – or WANT – a government-imposed take-over of our medical care under the pretense of providing healthcare to the needy. That could simply be provided by government or community-based free-clinics.
* I'm telling my Congressmen/women and Senators..and my government: KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY HEALTH CARE, and out of my pocket.
* This move to a socialist/Marxist govermnent is anit-American. Just proves that an "Obama nation" is really an "abomination!"

Darth Vadik, CA   November 6th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

I love it when Republicans predict that Obama will lose because things are getting "worse." They are actually not, they are swinging around, and even the unemployment should start falling down soon.

Remeber what the Clintons ratings were at the end of his second year in office, he trounced Dole two years later.

Rember what Bush I ratings were 9 months before the election, he got trounced.

I can see the right wing mokeys going on to the right wing exuse sights to look up the answers right now.

No excuses, just facts knuckleheads, Obama will be just fine.

A delay to the vote that was supposed to sealed up. What could have happened could it have been a rally of people in Washington D.C. oppsed to the healthcare bill on Thursday. No, that couldn't have anything to do with it because CNN didn't even report about it here on their website. Over 20,000 people in Washington and CNN doesn't see the need to report it (and they say other news agencies don't report the news). When a political party has control of the Executive and Legislative branch of the government and they cant agree on a bill that they have enough votes to pass without any help from the other party there must be something very wrong in the legislation. I have always said there is something fishy about how this bill and the cap and trade bill are being shoved down our throats. Usually when someone is trying to push something to fast it is because they are hiding something. So news agencies are supposed to be our detectives and find out what they are hiding and report (unbiased) to us so we can react.

Dawn   November 6th, 2009 11:59 am ET

The delays are beyond ridiculous....are you telling me that Canada, Australia, the UK and France are so much more advanced than the US that we can't even get health insurance reform to pass in this country? The stall tactics are beyond old news, get the job done or we'll be voting for someone who can.

John   November 6th, 2009 11:56 am ET

EXCELLENT!!!! Delay it until they get a reasonable plan without a public option.

marion/alabama   November 6th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I thought they had added language to keep illegals from getting health insurance under the Government option?but it is not in the bill,I was under the impression the Tax Payer would not be on the hook for Abortions, but it seems we will if this bill passes...There is 460 Billion in new Taxes in this bill and a cut of 500 Billion in Medicare,so what did they promise the AARP leadership to get them on board while selling out the Seniors?

I think it would be wise to wait to Sunday, even longer. There is much to do in getting the language correct. Do it right the first time.
In addition, the people of faith in this country can go to their churches, and in unity lift this up to God. If it's his will to be it will be, if not it won't.
