Obama calls jobs report 'sobering'

Obama called the latest jobs report 'sobering.'

(CNN) - President Obama called the latest jobs report indicating the unemployment rate has jumped to 10.2 percent "sobering," and pledged Friday to "not rest until all Americans who want work can find work."

"I just signed into law a bill that will help grow our economy, save and create new jobs and provide relief to struggling families and businesses," Obama said in the White House Rose Garden.

"The need for such a measure was made clear by the jobs report that we received this morning. Although we lost fewer jobs than we did last month, our unemployment rate climbed to over 10 percent, a sobering number that underscores the economic challenges that lie ahead," he also said.

You have to give Obama credit, he is trying to be more like Europe in every way. He's got the unemployment thing locked down.

"Sobering" is a good description given the drunken binge the Administration and Congress have been on spending our money, our kid's money and their kid's money on a stimulus bill full of pork and giveaways rather than job creation.

Why the answer is obvious; the government needs to spend even MORE money that it doesn't have. Cash for Clunkers for All!

"Sobering" doesn't begin to describe the situation. Why isn't the press holding Obama responsible for this disaster?

    'sobering' really??

I really don't blame Obama for his failed, poorly executed, wasteful, joke of a stimulus efforts- which have probably made our economy worse.

I blame all of the morons who have voted for him!!!!!!!!!!

Hope that everyone who has voted for him and has lost his/her job since then never gets one back until they become adults and can vote based on more substance than a fancy infomercial featuring a cool, good looking, charming, in love with the camera...guy. (sounds like a Hollywood actor to me not a president material)

Also, to Republicans: does anyone in your party have a brain??? McCain for the president??? Really??? Anyone, anyone left with some common sense out there??

But, but he PROMISED if we only passed his phony "stimulus" bill last spring the unemployment rate would not go over 8.4%!

People had better wake up quick to the fact that Obama says only what is best for Obama and his image depending on who he is speaking to at the time. Nothing is sacred, no-one is above being thrown under the Obama bus. He is a con-artist. And you all were conned, Chicago-style!

10.2% UNEMPLOYMENT! Didn't Obama promise us that if we passed the near trillion dollar corrupt stimulous bill that UNEMPLOYMENT would stay below 8%? Democrats have controlled Congress for 3 years, and Obama the White House for 10 months and we have 10.2% UNEMPLOYMENT? And what are they doing about it? NOTHING!!!! They are too busy trying to pass another massive, corrupt, Government takeover of healthcare that will cost trillions and trillions and be paid for with borrowed money, on the backs of the elderly with Medicare cuts, printed money, and massive massive taxes. If they pass this it will hit the economy like a million tons of bricks and UNEMPLOYMENT will be headed to 20%. Please stop while their is 1 bitter, gun toting, bible thumping, bigotted, working American left working in the country! Please STOP!!!!

"Job's"?? No one is a greater exponent than I of the proposition that CNN remains qualitatively different from other cable news networks, embracing professionalism and old-school precision and seriousness, but I've to say that the double use of the greengrocers' apostrophe is worrisome.

    Gee Mr President.
What did you think would happen?
All these bills you have been signing
seem to have little if any effect!
I'm so so glad you are so so sober over this!!

Yeah right Mr.President! You have been in office 9 months. Unemployment is not yet in the single digits, all the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have not been brought home, the economy has not recovered 100%, we don't have world peace and to top it off you have not cured H1N1. And we all thought you were SUPERMAN!

Give this president a chance, he is trying to get America back on track. If after four years, things aren't better, you can vote someone else in but let him do his job until then without complaining about everything he does.

"I just signed into law a bill that will help grow our economy, save and create new jobs and provide relief to struggling families and businesses,"

Uh...wasn't that what the (failed) stimulus package was all about?

How many times are we going to put this same band-aid over the amputation?

What is funny to me is how people are blaming President Obama for the continued job loss, I now understand that there are a lot of uneducated, stupid people in the US with such short term memory, what is wrong with you people, it took us 7 years to dig this hole 1 yr to fall in, why in the heck do you think it can be fixed in 10 months! I am shocked to the simple lack of understanding here. No wonder other countries talk about us. Now it the time to talk personal responsibility as Americans get behind our President and make the change, even if you did not vote for him, this is your country to. Get off your sorry butts and stop complaining about all the things he is doing wrong. Stop be lead by the internal backstabbers of Our President. And for some of you, “GET OVER IT” he is black and there is nothing you can do about it. Trust me what goes around comes around, the hole you dig President Obama will be the very hole you fall in. Remember God does not like ugly and he is not that crazy about pretty!

The sobering thing is that we Americans don't seem to realize that saving all our personal money is not what is going to help this country get back on its feet. It is necessary for those who can, to spend money so that there is an increase for supplies. Also, we should be buying American as muich as possible. This will help us all.

I'm ok with him resting, but I would settle for him not golfing any more (he's already played as many rounds in his first nine months in office as Bush did in eight years) until he figures out how this economy thing works.

  20. This Is Great

"I will not rest. But I WILL play golf, fund raise and vacation until every american looking for work, finds work". Give me a break bum. You have never been happier. The best day of your life will be when all private jobs are gone and the american people are dependant on your socialist agenda.

Thank you, Sir, for your hard work and inspiring leadership in the face of such daunting problems and counterproductive opposition. I wish I could say I'm suprised by those who expect that anyone can rectify 8 years of mismangement in a mere 9 months. Keep up the great work.

With unemployment spiking at 10.2%, they should FIRST be concerned about creating jobs, not sticking us with ill-conceived health care "reform" that ends up costing working folks hundreds of dollars a year.

Once the economy is back on track, THEN pass health care reform which starts with tort reform!

Yes it clearly is sobering Mr President. Go have another Photo-Op while real americans continue to suffer. What was it you said when you rammed the stimulus thru. "Unemployment will stay at 8%" ( AND YOU WANT ANOTHER STIMULUS PACKAGE). May be you can get your staff to pay all the taxes they owe to help the economy. Clearly you have no clue nor does your entire staff of socialist cronies. But hey, you're the President and we all should just blindly follow without asking questions. Kind of reminds me of the Pied Piper story. To that I say, HELL NO YOU GOTTA GO!
